Rich, fat, tropical fruits, bees wax, spices. A food wine, great with chicken, with its exuberant flavors and oily texture. I really like this, especially the influence from Roussanne, and there’s no problem drinking it now.

**Always a treat around the holidays when people break out wines like this. This is fully resolved and so elegant. Drinking cool, feminine, filled with cool pepper and mint, clay and tobacco, and that beautiful green component that I cant put my finger on. Really classy and ready to go. The finish is a bit clipped otherwise, higher score. Drink! Kinda Moutonish...

1/10/24, 8:57 AM - I am a huge fan of this ever since Parker go it so wrong on 1990 and at a wonder tasting in 2016 it beat all of the 1er GCs. I still think they have the balance absolutely right. Interesting points about the green...haven't found this in the recent bottles. The key for me is that you can't put your finger on why this is so good...the ephemeral nature is what makes it special. Enjoy the rest!

The 2000 Figeac was sensational and by far the most exciting wine in a recent right bank tasting of 95/98/00/01. It was spikey and feral with a riveting green overlay an emerging tertiary complexity, and it had a terrific finish. Eric d’Aramon, who got his marching orders in 2012 after failing to secure an upgrade to Premier A status, was roundly criticised by some of the critics (no need to name them) for picking his 2000 too early; but he really nailed it. Drinking this makes me worry about my recent purchases of 2016 and 2019, which may have been Rollandised.

11/29/21, 9:16 AM - Completely agree. I have now bought the post Eric wines for investment, but expect v little from them compared to the pleasure from the 20 century vintages I was lucky enough to try

Pretty explosive notes of black cherries, elderberries, black currant, mint, some cedar wood, also some tar, dill, some pepper and leather too, as well as some burnt meat. It‘s full-bodied, dense and powerful, but has good medium-high acidity balancing the richness, medium+ tannin adding grip. Good length. Not exactly what I usually drink nowadays but this has aged really nicely and there is no rush in drinking it. A superbly rich but also fresh and balanced Barossa Shiraz.

Buttery, creamy nose of lemon curd, vanilla, nutmeg, almonds, apricots. Oak presence is clear but somehow manages to smell austere - mineral, stoney - underneath. V long palate, with vibrant acidity, but perfectly balanced with the richness of the oak. Lemon/curd, orange, butter, almonds, and a strong mineral streak. Palate is structured around soft waves of acid. Finishes with a touch of ginger, heat. Close your eyes and it’s almost a Meursault? Pure enjoyment. Immediately ordered more!

The best chardonnay I have had recently .It's pricy but well worth it.

Purchased from Brooks Steak house in Denver before they went out of business. Paid $70.

Wow. Holy F-ing wow. At 21 years of age it's perfect. The whole package. Color. Nose. Palate.

Color. Translucent garnet. No brick at the edge.

Nose. Rich berry. Cassis. Cinnamon candy bears. Stewed red fruits. Maybe some cocoa. Kirsch. Something bready. Maybe oatmeal. Meaty.
Overwhelmingly aged cabernet nose with a ton of ancillary scents. This wine is incredibly complex and enjoyable. Over 2 hours its evolved from a knockout huge youthful cabernet to softer, delicate wine. Simply amazing.

Palate. Front of the palate tannins. Tiny tannins. Not crunchy or overwhelming like Latour. Very polished. Red fruits. Chocolate. Tons of dusty cocoa. A finish that lasts a minute plus.

I don't ever pick favorites. I have opened thousands of bottles in my life. This was my 42nd birthday wine. But this wine is truly memorable. Outstanding.

After the hype and all the years of cellaring, I was hoping that this might be one of my all-time favorite bottles, so I was a little disappointed (but financially relieved for the future) that I thought that this was merely a very good wine. Medium body, modest sediment, flavors of oak, vanilla, raspberry. Smooth, but not particularly exciting. For the money I'd much rather have 2 or 3 bottles of Realm, Schrader, Saxum, or Two Hands Ares.
  • Sonoffalstaff commented:

7/26/20, 10:03 AM - Just halfway through my case. Same experience. It's very good but like so many of the super stars of wine, it almost never matches the hype they receive

A well-rounded chardonnay with a clean, crisp and smooth finish. Surprised with the amount of minerality that comes through. For $30, this is hard to beat. May not be good for the long haul due to an absence of acidity but this will be a great wine to crack open next summer.

This is a wonderful wine at full maturity. There is virtually no sediment and the color is still very much red and hasn't gone much to the tile end at all. The color is medium red and the body is of medium weight. The wine has cedar bouquet with pencil, pipe tobacco and dried fruit. It is balanced with the right acidity for its body. Not at all a huge wine but a beautifully balanced medium-bodied beauty. I particularly like the mature flavors of the earth and dead leaf aspects of this wine. It is a great wine for a red meat roast or lamb chops. Cheeses too. It is fairly similar to the taste a year ago but a tiny bit more subdued. No need to aerate this wine much. Not decanting may also work as I saw virtually nothing when I did decant. As to its maturity, I see that some reviewers have said about this wine is slightly passed it prime or that it had lost fruit. My cellar is quite cold and consistent, which may explain the holding quality of this wine. I don't think it is passed its prime at all. I think it is at the plateau. As to fruit, one has to expect that one part of maturity is to trade the brighter fruit for the wonderful spectrum of the complex taste of a mature wine. The fruit, at this stage, is the evolved kind, more vinous and less that of fresh fruit. This is a pleasure giver at this stage. I still have six and I am quite happy with it.

Decanted 30 minutes. Firm nose of ripe red cherries with a light grassy / herb freshness alongside developing savoury notes. Palate is firm with good acidity, medium fine tannins and ripe red cherry fruits. Light truffles and savoury notes. Almost a little light chocolate on palate. The wine is drinking excellent at the moment and is ideal. Drink now-2020.

Pours blackish with deep purple around the rim. Smells of musk, toasted oak, blackberries and cinnamon stix. Ultra rich and viscous like spent motor oil. The texture is chewy with some grit yet soft. A central core of blackfruit and plum throwing minerals and charred remains at the wall. It sticks and slides down slowly. This wine is massive and bold. It hits hard and remains, to finish you off where you lay, leaving your teeth stained like a third world. I think I need a dentist.

this is a good california style merlot. strong, concentrated fruit, smooth mouth feel, soft tannins and a good finish. Oak was a bit much at first but calmed down after about an hour. not at all like its cousin on the right bank of Bordeaux, but a polished wine nonetheless.
