Amazing burnt gold colour. Original acidity and fresh citrus replaced by a silky hint of sweetness and stewed fruit. Clearly past it’s best at 21 years in bottle but a triumph for the wine makers. Who would have thought this cork sealed wine would stay the course

1/1/24, 2:14 PM - This should be a lesson for us all not to reject white wines out of hand if they have (accidentally) been aged in the range of good reds.

Here is an accurate review of this wine from two perspectives…..

This wine was tastes completely blind with Several other wines from the same vintage and price range.

SIGHT: Very light concentration for cab light ruby color as well…

NOSE: This wine changes with air like turns into a different wine changes and it happens quick and in 3 stages… Stage 1: Ripe jammy red fruits Raspberry, cherry, maybe even strawberry with touch of spice and oak. Stage 2: The fruits fades and completely turns Diacetyl and Carmel popcorn oak. Stage 3: the fruit comes back as more syrupy and jammy sweeter because that big oak Carmel note is influencing the perception spice lingers on the back.

TASTE: This wine reminds me of “Michael David Freakshow” it’s a crowd pleasers porch drinker Wine almost not Cabernet the way it drinks…. This is 13.7% ABV is kinda bold in flavor yeah, nothing crazy but fruit follows accurately with slightly less oak than nose and is just soft and disappears down the hatch medium minus tannins. Acid is good though lifts up the jammy fruit more pure on palate than nose for sure.

OVERALL: Look…. If you are a true Cabernet drinker you will hate this…. Straight up…. It just easy drinking Cab juice it’s light but not light because they made this in a lab like Freakshow to be a crowd pleasure bodacious fruit bomb. However it’s super smooth drinks extremely well on its own and in a blind even experienced drinks on the line-up picked this as #1 or #2 and that says a lot about perception. Hope this helps.

Deep and lively purple. Attractive noise of black raspberries and a whiff of oak. On the palate, medium bodied with lots of sweet fruit. It wears its 14.5% alcohol lightly, and tannins are few and fine. Noticeably high acidity, but not out of balance. I have to admit that at first this wine confused me; expecting a typical Portuguese nose of intense fruit and mixed spice, I instead found something more reticent, and (as I thought) less impressive. A bit of research tells me I had the wrong expectations, as by far the largest part of this three-way blend is Syrah. Suddenly it makes sense: it's a wine made in an international style, perhaps with half an eye on the Northern Rhone - Crozes Hermitage or somewhere like that. Approached with that expectation in mind, it suddenly starts to make more sense and, strangely, give more pleasure. Funny how what we think we are drinking affects our experience of the wine. Cork, 14.5%.

10/31/21, 3:02 PM - In reviewing the 2018 vintage I was faced with the same problems; I described that vintage as being new to me but offering potential, which is kind of like what Duncan is saying that he had the wrong expectations and had to meet the 2015 vintage on its own terms.

2020 Kirkland Signature Sauvignon Blanc Ti Point Marlborough
Simple, unsubtle, NZ SB. Hey, it was 20 degrees out and dark with piled up snow. Grilled marinated chicken tenders on the deck. What more could we have wanted? Amazing QOR at $8.

14.5% alcohol; the importer, Biagio Cru & Estate Wines, Roslyn Heights, New York, retains the decimal comma contrary to English usage; 100% Tempranillo, real cork with a fragrant stone-fruit aroma of its own, maximum wine penetration of 15 mm, light to medium-weight foil; long legs, dark purple/brown; nose of alcohol, citrus, stone fruit, cassis, wood & vanilla; vinturied and tasted right afterwards at approximately 9 degrees C; medium+ body, minerals, slightly unripe fruit emphasizes some sourness over tannins and sweetness, which is not all that unpleasant since the wine and its bold finish would pair well with dessert fromages/cheeses, beef/bison, or even fatty cold-water fish like fresh-caught Pacific Coho Salmon or Chilean Sea Bass

This modestly-priced Saint-Émilion is an opaque crimson blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. Teeming with black currants, dark bramble fruits, pickling spice, pekoe and licorice, it is a medium-to-full-bodied red with fresh acidity, well-integrated alcohol (14%), plentiful fine-grained tannins and a moderate amount of toasted oak. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is one that performs well above its pay grade. Those who claim that there is no "value" in Bordeaux will have a tough time explaining this one. Drink now-2030.

As someone relatively unfamiliar with wine, I found a 3L bottle at an outlet store for $39.99 and bought it. Is that a good deal? They had the same brand 2014 Merlot for the same price, also the 3L size.

Thanks for any and all replies! :)

2/20/20, 3:32 PM - As you can see from my two recent tastings of this wine/vintage, I really like the wine. Just be sure to give it a long time to air! $40 for 3 liters is a great buy!

14% alcohol, cheap plastic wrap, might be real cork, Grenache 80%, Mourvèdre 10%, Syrah 10%, imported by Lionstone International, Joliet, IL, gold appellation "par le guide Gilbert & Gaillard", distributed by the Wall Street Journal Wine Club 12/14; brown/dark red, medium to long legs, vintured and served/tasted at about 13 degrees C; nose of alcohol, fruit, citrus; taste of HEAVY WATER -- not boring but neutral, unobtrusive minerals, dry on the back of the tongue, notes of strawberries, squash, dense mouthfeel, nice balance of tannin with sweet, WOODY, keeps well in the fridge overnight; pair with filet mignon and many other foods and dishes; not so good for sipping
  • Glenn Gilbert commented:

7/7/17, 3:11 AM - Courthezon has an acute accent over the 'e'.

heavy foil, genuine cork, heavy thick-glass bottle, 14.5% alcohol; this cuvée has 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec & 15% Cabernet Franc; from Argentina's Uco Valley, Mendoza; Saranty Imports, White Plains; long legs, deep cherry-red (as noted on the label); nose has a hint of fruit but no more than that; some citrus, full bodied, taste is not especially fruity, some complexity, pair with hard cheese
  • Glenn Gilbert commented:

4/13/17, 6:30 PM - Most wines I score in the 80s I like; it is below 80 where the wine becomes barely drinkable or undrinkable.

Not my favorite. A bit sour on the tongue.
The wine looks onion-skin colored. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like grapefruit. The body is light/medium. The wine has low acidity.
  • Glenn Gilbert commented:

10/22/16, 5:53 PM - If you still have some, try serving it around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, the sourness is overwhelmed by the overall impact.

I needed some wine for a recipe so this was opened earlier than normal. Not as much fruit as I usually enjoy from this producer. But I won't give up on this vintage yet.

Light ruby in color, subtle aromas of black cherry, spice and earth. medium bodied with nice well integrated tannins and intense flavors of sour black cherry, loganberry, and strawberry that persist through a long finish. This wine has guts to go for 3-5 more years, but definitely good now.
  • Glenn Gilbert commented:

4/24/16, 8:03 AM - I agree with you entirely about the ageing. If anyone still has a bottle of the 2009 in their cellar, try it again about 2020! It might well be even more complex and enjoyable.

Popped and poured. Perhaps I should have decanted. Odd nose, some fruit initially but had a tart and hot finish. I don't think this was a flawed bottle, but the wine was quite unenjoyable. My experience deviates from other member reviews.
  • Glenn Gilbert commented:

3/10/16, 3:27 PM - I agree with you entirely. When I tried this wine in March of 2016 I rated it even a little lower, at 79. It's a cuve'e that didn't make it.
