hid its 15.9% very well. quite delish! lovely fruit and spices. at it's peak now. best carlisle i have had in a while... not that many have been disappointing.

honey, melon, white stone fruits, vanilla - oak poking through a bit on the overpowering side. rich mouth feel, balanced acidity but drink up.

spectacular blanc de blanc. crisp and zippy acid with a depth of mouth feel that i often don't find in BdB's - some nice cream on the finish. thanks madame salvatori for another great recommendation!

an epiphany wine - i had never had a sparkling shiraz that i would classify as "fine wine" until this. wonderfully complex - plummy, molasses - the carbon dioxide balances the slight sweetness perfectly. not overly fizzy, just a tingle to clean up the finish. very good.

tight as a drum but you could sense a brooding powerhouse underneath. darke fruits and larger tannins (grapey tannins) than the block 3 but maybe just as much potential. hard to judge based on how closed for business this was. don't touch until 2015+

bring the noise! this wine is sheer power in a silk glove - lovely heft to it. darker fruits here with a lush balancing spiciness. broad in the mouth. very well constructed wine - linear and focused laser-like attack and a very, very long finish. this has the structure and oak to age well and i would see at least 8 years in bottle for this bad boy to strut its stuff. 2015+

more perfumed than either the calvert or the estate. red fruits predominant (cherry and dark raspberry). maybe a touch light on the palate. very nice spicy finish. i sense less oak treatment than the calvert or the estate so it should come together early to make a nice elegant new zealnd pinot noir.

dark, deeper more intense fruit than the estate pinot. dark cheery and spicy nose. full flavoured fruit but still elegant in the mouth. toasty oak backbone needs time. lots of promise here. maturity 2012+

lovely palate weight and depth. honeysuckle, peach and a creamy mouth feel that is off set by classic minerality. vanilla and creme brulee with toasty oak. this will be a stunner when oak integrates. maturity 2017+

very dark and deep robe. extremely appealing chambolle nose with some brambly blackberriness i would normally associate with a cali pinot. in the mouth it is light and supple, perhaps a touch thin (?) nice tannic backbone. will need time. one to watch. 2015+

cask sample at en primeur. red fruit with rustic tannins and mouth feel. rocky and a touch sweet, possibly lacking acid for a good ager. tannins are big and rough. unsure about this one.

cask sample at en primeur. very concentrated and a deep purity of fruit - red cherry. lovely long and clean. earthy, rocky undertones. could be excellent. echezeaux was the grand cru of the tastings across the board. maturity 2015+

colored cherry red. earthy, fruity nose with suprisingly rich mouth feel for a Côte de Nuits Villages. long and linear. screamingly good value at £7! a must rebuy next visit to burgundy. very underrated domaine.

just a lovely beaujolais! all perfume, violets and a juicy, feminine nose with a touch of carbonique and a dusting of powdered chocolate. predominant fruit is raspberry with a dash of cherry. silky, soft mouth feel and an attack that is long and linear. a true modern beaujolais. very good!

juicy, ripe and sweet blue/black fruits - nose of blackberry and cherry compote. full, soft and lush palate with acid to balance. some secondary mushroomy/forest floor character is developing. oddly there was a touch of booze on the nose but none in the mouth. nice wine!

not a complex wine but clean and linear. earthy flavors with cherry and violets - nice chambolle femininity and elegance. tannins were a bit dry and "talcum powdery". i don't think this is ready yet - give it a few years yet.

upsettingly my first disappointing carlisle. alcohol was very prominent - a hot and "boozy" nose that covered up the fruit. left for another two hours but wine did not improve. all the carlisle i have had with higher alcohols have held it well but this wine did not have enough fruit or acid to balance. carlisle trademark palate depth was not here also - a bit thin and hollow. cranberry and red/blue fruits with some asian spices.

iodine/purple robe. nose of blackberry pie with a meltingly buttery crust, iodine and some pepper. big and fruity in the mouth - rich and concentrated with some chalky tannins. finishes a little sweet which detracts slightly for me from what otherwise is a standout wine. drinking well but if i had another bottle i would leave for another year or two. sadly i don't.

this bottle was definitely singing better than the last. purity of red strawberry/raspeberry fruits with violets and some morgon "cured meats". clean and crisp in the mouth with good weight for a beaujolais. nice!

some anderson valley pain d'epices with red/blue fruits. other than that, very disappointing - flabby and one dimensional, limp. was close to being beat by a £8 chilean pinot from tescos we had afterwards. at least that one had its acid in balance. meh!

blackberry, blueberry and spices with a whiff of white pepper on the nose. lovely soft, juicy tannins, fantastic mouth presence both in weight and depth. some meats developed over time in the glass. superb long finish that reminds you of just how clean and pure the fruit is. mike makes cracker jack wine!

red fruits, smoke, and flowers. you can sense some secondary aroma hiding behind a really bracing acid. a long, long finish but not very chambolle in character. no terroir here. tannin is very lacking and palate is a little hollow. i can't see this really improving massively... nice but not what i was expecting especially for a 2005 and chambolle and bouchard....

tasted at bouchard's cellars in beaune. this is more like meursault than the 2006 Les Clous we tasted before this. rich and creamy mouth feel. strong wood that still needs time to resolve. figs, almond and butter. mouth coating but enough acidity to stay on the right side of cloying. needs a few years.

decanted three hours. what a great villages wine. deep color for a burgundy. light floral notes with juicy fruits - red cherry and strawberry/raspberry. big mouth feel with cheek coating tannin. a touch dry so unsure whether it is worth waiting for the last of the tannins to resolve or whether it will just dry out. lovely acid, feminine finish. great with our roast goose. i would say next couple of years for a good drinking window.

light golden honey in color. a wonderful nose - predominately honeysuckle and beeswax with some kaffir lime and some hints of quince. wood that was noticeable on release is now completely integrated with the malo notes into a creamy and lush mouth feel. superb palate depth with enough acidity left to clean up the finish. this wine is definitely not past its drinking window but i would probably drink over the next year or two.

on opening this wine was a bit hollow and angular but left alone for an hour of air the wine really came together. lots of cabernet notes - tomato leaf, capsicum, cigar box - to go along with some dark red fruits from the shiraz. mid palate really filled out. delish!

QPR Heaven. rich but not unctuous with alcohol in check. the shiraz gives it a nice peppery note while the merlot gives some plummy flavors and soft ripe tannins. nose of chocolate, plums, and tobacco. a touch of a bitter finish is all that holds this wine back. a bargain for £6
