At cellar temp, 60 deg, overwhelmingly bruised red delicious apple. Flabby. An hour or two in the fridge and the wine redeemed itself, and showed very well. The previous bottles didn’t require the lower temp.
4th of 6th bottles.

We started of the tasting with this, and it was on fire tonight. Frothy, golden, yeasty, showing a touch of malt balls. Just killer on palate - has that C-T intensity and depth but a little bit of maturity - a touch of malt balls or mocha. Firm but smoothing mousse. Some citrus shows here, spicy golden. Lemon peel. Candied ginger. Great grip. Orange and lemon peel and spice on the finish. Superb. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 18/20.

Indianapolis III; 9/15/2017-9/17/2017 (Indianapolis, IN): Disgorged October 2010. Absolutely brilliant pinot meunier. This is a super dense and powerful bottle of champagne. There's a profound nuttiness and density on the palate here, as well as some bruised fruit. Crisp minerality, with a good chalky finish. Lightly earthy and mushroomy as well, this needed a bit of air to really strut its stuff.

I first had this wine about 5 years ago, and it was amazing then. It was phenomenal this weekend. We opened the bottle to serve with gougeres, and it was a fabulous match. Somehow we managed to save some for night two, and it was even better. It still has lots of ripe red fruit, and now also has deepened to a point where it has become more red wine than Champagne. Amazing stuff.

Rockstar Champagne... like, all of them (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Soft and tart aromas. Quite smooth, but a slightly odd note of cat litter. Some slightly oxidized notes on the creamy, smooth palate. Like the texture, but don't like the oxidation. Puckering minerality on thee finish, which is tart and again showing some oxidized apples.

Mini-BYO with four Champagnes (Stockholm): Bright yellow colour, good mousse. Nose of yellow apple, some apple compote, noticeable smoke notes, some citrus, a hint of peach, mineral, some rather well integrated oak, and with increasing temperatur notes of honey and herbs. Palate with yellow fruit, yellow apples, rather good concentration, mineral, rather good acidity, spice. 90 p. Not entirely easy to identify this as Pinot Meunier, I'd say. It mostly showed blanc de blancs-like notes, although some of the Meunier signs (sweet nose in combination with some herbal notes, and not too high acidity) showed up at a little higher temperature if you knew what too look for. I remember this wine as having more red grape notes when I last tasted it in early 2012.

Phenomenal Champagne. Layers of citrus and red fruits merging seamlessly with fresh baked bread, chalky minerality and a gingery seasoning, all in a very polished, finessed package that conveys flavour with a sense of weightlessness. Tremendous balance and depth, and a finish that just keeps going. Wow!

This is my second bottle, I guess I never posted a note from the first tasting this spring. A loud 'pop' on the opening, this wine had a denser mousse and more bubbles than the bottle I popped with Peter Consonants. Intense nose of bread and brioche, pale straw color, but lots of red fruits and currant on the palate. Long finish with lots of mineral. This is shaping up well, very excited to see where it goes.

Stunning aromatics of lime, lemon and a floral component. Smells like some form of citrus cookie fresh out of the oven. Slightly tight on the palate, showing lime and apple skin - the finish is a little clipped. Just a very young wine but fun to drink even now.

Info on the wine: 100% Pinot Meunier from Merfy in Montagne de Reims. The House owns 0,7ha of ungrafted vines cultivated with the ancient provigneage (layering) method (30,000 vines/hectare). No malolactic. Natural yeasts from the plots. Fermentation in 4-9 years old oak. No dosage
Info on the vintage: Hot and sunny June, rain and hail in July in Cote des Bar and southwest of Reims, cool and wet August, but clear and sunny September. Fears for lack of acidity due to midsummer heat, the harvest lasted 1 month, much longer than usual.
Barley color, soft and shy nose, fresh but fruity, ripe apple. Round mouth, vinous, full, nice acidity, medium aftertaste. Its more of a food champagne. This could be very interesting in the future.

Vintage Champagne Masterclass (Landmark Hotel. London, U.K.): Very clean nose with white fruits dominating. Fruit forward but somewhat muted. Dry, lots of limestone off the bat, good ripe fruit intensity and round palate. Sharp acidity very fresh. Short finish but a bit one dimentional. Very tiny bubbles.
This is the fist vintage of this wine. Made with natural yeasts and 100% ungrafted pinot Meunier.

Leiden Clape Cornas tasting March 2013 (Leiden, The Netherlands): Very beautiful Champagne made from non-grafted vines (plants non greffes).
Lovely yeasty nose. Very sweet soft fruit, balanced acidity, complex.
