This one has certainly pulled itself together since my previous bottle. Deep tawny red, almost opaque. Not much brick on the rim. Nose showed mid-red fruit with wood and earthy notes well integrated. Palate was very refined, mouth coating and leading to a long finish. Very enjoyable. I would drink up now.

This is just entering its drinking window. Quite an elegant wine, with resolving tanins. Wonderful fruit profile, with good acid, from a good vintage.Tasted from Zalto and Reidel Burgundy..just lovely, and what I want from a Brunello..served with Iberico ham, Spanish Tortilla, and an herb salad.

Decanted an hour and drank with a grass fed filet. None of the raisin from the previous bottle. Slightly brownish on initial decant but a solid ruby core. Modern wine: Fruits is rich and bright there is a vanilla/cedar note. Alao a slight earthiness. Medium+ tannins and medium acidity. The finish isn't particularly long but it's a nice wine. My guess is that it's not over the hill but is going to need several years to get to it's next level.

I enjoy aged Brunello, so this worked for me. It was nice, but this bottle is also at the end of its drinking window and starting to flatten out The cork was perfect and firmly in tact with no leakage. Nice color with signs of oxidation, slight browning, but not really bricked. That told me the wine has been well stored and has aged in a proper way. So far so good. Muted nose even after coming up to room temp; dried flowers and earth. On the tongue it is exactly what you would expect from a 15 year old Brunello. All secondary. Cherry, must, cellar, cinder block, tobacco, some minerality. Mildly tannic and pleasant. Expected medium finish with lovely lingering tobacco. It was well integrated and composed, and I would suggest anyone holding the 1400 bottles still cellared to drink now. Based on this bottle, this is in its sunset and will decline from here.

Luis Italian Wine Tasting at Broder's: 30 minute decant - This was a very nice Brunello, and in my wheelhouse. I did think this wine would be better than it was, so not sure if it was a slightly off bottle or if my expectations were just too high. I thought 2006 Brunello would be singing, but this was more like humming! Pleasant enough, and I did enjoy it, but a little disappointed it didn't show better! Nose showed dried flowers, some red fruit and some earthiness. Palate was red and dark cherry, tobacco and bramble, with a hint of spice. plenty of acids, but Shortt on tannins. Nice dose of fruit though! 91-92 for this bottle on this night.

Italians at Broder's (Broder's Pasta Bar, Minneapolis): Very dark red color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. I always enjoy Altesino and I was hoping for even more from this bottle thinking it should be in a pretty sweet spot. Drinking well though with tobacco, dark fruits, full bodied, charcoal, and moderate tannins.

Drunk over an hour out of Zalto universal. Beautiful colour, clear red in the centre and fading to a brownish golden at the rim. At best, a fine mature nose with dark fruits. Less convincing in the mouth, though it had a brief moment of plenitude, but quickly marred by too high alcohol and spectres of mushroomy fragile and fading fruit.

Decanted for 30 minutes - with a fair amount of sediment. Overall, the wine was quite light - both in color (a light purple), and in body (on the lighter side of medium bodied). The nose gave up some red fruit and earth. On the palate there was the same red fruit and earth, along with juicy acidity, and a touch of tannin on the finish. Agree with several previous TNs that this wine was pleasant, but neither impressive nor memorable. Not sure how long this wine can hold, but drinking sooner is probably called for.

In better shape than my last bottle 1 year ago. Dark cherry, vanilla, mushroom, dusty brick color - classical aged brunello. Would have liked a little bit more structure. Changes a lot over an hour in the glass, and a really interesting wine clearly showing its age. No idea where this is going. Could be completely undrinkable in 1 year or keep evolving into new interesting experiences.

Opened, double decanted and drank over 2 hours. Expressive nose initially but quickly became subtle. Color showed brick and obvious aging. Palate a well integrated mixture of fruit (subtle), soft to moderate tannins, and benign acidity. Paired nicely with grilled lamb chops. Although this wine is drinking nicely now, I am curious to see how my other bottle will fare in a couple years. Will the balance and integration reach new heights or crash!

I was pleasantly surprised how rich and accessible this was after a pop and pour. Darker color, more sweet, less tannic (ie more modern in style) than traditional Brunellos. Dark black cherry fruit, orange liqueur, and subdued tannins. Very good but has good years ahead too. Drink now - 2022.

PnP, wish I’d decanted. Just a hint of age on the color. Bit of funk on the nose initially, took about 30 mins to blow off. Not as good as I remember from 3 years ago, but again that was decanted. Rounded out nicely after about an hour. Nice acidity, great finish.

Camphor and a bit of strawberry on the nose. On the palate, black cherry and some dark/purple fruit, with earthy notes on the medium finish and no noticeable tannins, with good acidity. This is in its drinking window, and it's likely to develop interesting tertiary notes as it ages, but I think I preferred these when they were younger.

Still a nice bottle with some life left. Starting to have the look and nose of an older sangiovese wine. Leather, tart cherry, mushrooms ... and still a fruity taste. Not a lot of tannin and acidity left in this bottle, but it actually did improve over the evening ... so no hurry. Not a highpoint of this wine for me, but it has been a bit of a rollercoaster over the years ... so I'll save my remaining bottles and hope for another comeback.

I dag valgte jeg meg denne 11 ar gamle flotte modne vinen fra Cantina in Palazzo Altesino i Montelcino.
Denne vingarden dekker over 80 hektar, mens selve vinmarkene bestar av 44 hektar, delt inn i "crus" av Altesino, Macina, Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Pianezzine og Montosoli (alle bermt for produksjon av svrt elegante viner).
100 % Sangiovese
Tradisjonell fermentering
Nesten helt fri for bunnfall.

From magnum. Took a few hours to open up, but evolved into an elegant floral brunello. Good dark fruit, especially cherries and dates. This was then given complexity by some rose and lavendar notes, as well as some herbs on the finish.
From magnum, this is in a good spot right now.

Popped and poured. Nose subtle floral notes, dark cherry, subtle spice note. This bottle showed well on the palate, opening up nicely after an hour or so in the glass. Dark cherry, dusty spice notes. Very enjoyable and great with a wild boar ragu.

Let breathe 1 hour and drank over 6. Almost perfect. Nose bursts from the glass with black cherry, blueberries, and tomato leaf. Very Bordeaux-like. On the palate the wine is juicy with fine, well resolved tannins. Medium-long finish, well balanced with the right amount of power. Tree bark underneath a solid fruit core. Makes you think. This is an ethereal wine. Will last maybe another 3-5 years before it begins to fade.

Drank from 375 bottle. This wine has shut down for the moment; dark red cherry, plum, and damp wood. Fine tannins bur slightly disjointed on the palate. Decent length. I think this wine now needs few years to pull itself together. Great potential here.

This was very good, quick decant, drinking surprisingly well right away and even better in 30-45 mins. Balanced, classically styled but nice amount of fruit too. This was more ready than I expected but lots of life ahead.

Excellent. This is more refined than the 2007, with less oak and less cooked fruit. Reminds me of a mature high level right bank bordeaux from a warm vintage. Ready to drink, but can also be cellared for a few years.

In the glass: Beautiful dark-red with a hint of brown showing some evolution.
Nose: Already upon popping the cork, it showed a lot of red fruit, a creaminess to it, a little dusty, some cedar or tobacco. Promissing.
On the palate: mid- to full bodied nice balance, everything already well integrated. Again the aroma's of red fruit and the rest.
The notes above were before karaffing the wine, but it remained consistent after an hour in the karaf.
This is one of the best Brunello's I drank to date. Its really well-made. Although it already shows so much after only 9 years, (I understand the normale is a modern-style made) I think it will still be even better in the next 5-10 years. Beautiful bottle.

This wine shows why the 2006 vintage is highly rated. Nice dark ruby color with pleasant aromas. Tasted of ripe red fruits, very fresh, with plenty of structure. Can be enjoyed now, but is several years away from reaching its full potential.

From 375ml. Rustic aromas of leather, burnt cherries, mushrooms. Sour cherries, plums, earth on palate. Did not get the elegance I normally receive from this fine northern Brunello producer. Could be the vintage. I also think this is somewhat in a dumb stage right now. 90+

First half, decanted half an hour. Fragrant and harmonious nose of dust, medicine and dark fruit. In the mouth it is fullish but not very complex and seems to need more time to unfold its aftertaste. Good, not great.
Second half, the day after, decanted half an hour. Much the same impression, perhaps there is more depth to the fruit in the mouth. I suppose it will improve with a few more years.

Beautiful clove/eucalyptus on the nose; on the palate, sour cherry and herbal notes, with some drying tannins on the medium finish. This seemed a bit more substantial than the last bottle I had, if I recall it correctly.

Red/brownish colour. Initially some barnyard, but after half hour air I get menthol and pepper. More menthol, pebber, kirsch on the palate with smooth tannins. A good wine, although not as overwhelming as expected. Has many years ahead.

Menthol on the nose; cherry, menthol, and smooth rich tannins on the palate. This seems to lack a little weight for a Brunello, but otherwise this is delicious and drinking well right now. I love the silky tannins that seem to be a hallmark of the vintage.

Very refined, almost (not quite!) top drawer Brunello of 06. I think it is pretty well there but I guess it might find some more depth in a couple years. Certainly fine to drink now and enjoy this lovely wine. For me it benefitted from a couple of hours of open bottle. Without food preferably (or something fairly bland) I think (or it risks going unnoticed and being done an injustice).

The wine is a medium ruby red, with a much lighter meniscus. The very inviting nose has raspberries, cherries, warm baking spices, eucalyptus, wild flowers, dark chocolate, earthy underbrush, and some spicy oak. This has medium body, fairly solid tannins, and very good acidity. The palate leads off with tart, juicy, red fruit but nice spice, oak, and a touch of eucalyptus come into the picture adding depth. The long finish is full of spicy fruit, oak, and some nice earthiness. Tasty today but this should add some complexity with additional cellar time.

Young Brunello should not be this enjoyable; but it is. Tried previously at a tasting and loved it. This is a first bottle from my cellar. Red cherry, raspberry, spice and just a touch of wood. The palate is what is un-ordinary; soft yet structured, fine tannins and decent length.

sure shows some nebbiolo qualities to me, maybe it is the blackberrry and flower buds on the nose, or the powerful acid and tannic backbone that holds together a palate of of tobacco, strawberry preserves, earth and wild raspberry, this is just a fine Brunello di Montalcino, medium-weight, very elegant, balanced, complex and stimulating, showing well after an hour decant and continues to open, very fine indeed, good with Italian sausage and salad

Fat and opulent with spice, chocolate, oak, vanilla, and blackberry. Rich and silky like a thick piece of chocolate cake that is enjoyable, but takes some effort to finish. I wish this had a bit more acid, but this is still quite a nice glass of wine.

Slight bricking, lighter red with brown hue; cherry; strawberry, cherry, tobacco, tanin light, lighter weight, slight pucker. After four hour decant time it started to drink well. Noticeable improvement on the half left in the bottle and deanted the next day for four hours. Give this substatial air time if you are opening 2011-2013. It is drinking well now so you wouldn't be sacrificing it by opening. However, it is likely to improve over the next 2 to 3 years and continue to hold well beyond 2014. A smooth wine.

Night 1: Really tight. Thought it was flawed, but the initial funk burned off after 20 minutes or so in the glass.
Night 2 (after VacuVin in temp controlled cellar): Opened up beautifully overnight and was now drinking really well.
Night 3 (VacuVin in temp control again): Holding up well but flattening out.

I dag valgte jeg meg denne 11 ar gamle flotte modne vinen fra Cantina in Palazzo Altesino i Montelcino.
Denne vingarden dekker over 80 hektar, mens selve vinmarkene bestar av 44 hektar, delt inn i "crus" av Altesino, Macina, Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Pianezzine og Montosoli (alle bermt for produksjon av svrt elegante viner).
100 % Sangiovese
Tradisjonell fermentering
Nesten helt fri for bunnfall.
Testet hjemme i Lier fredag 28.07.2017

From magnum. Took a few hours to open up, but evolved into an elegant floral brunello. Good dark fruit, especially cherries and dates. This was then given complexity by some rose and lavendar notes, as well as some herbs on the finish.
From magnum, this is in a good spot right now.

Second half, the day after, decanted half an hour. Much the same impression, perhaps there is more depth to the fruit in the mouth. I suppose it will improve with a few more years.
