Aired for 1h in décanteur. Beautiful place right now. Beautiful presence of red and black fruit, on the way to dried, but still present. Smoke and leather, with a nice finish, medium plus. Extremely pleasant if you love old claret

Needs an hour in the decanter to open up. Austere an classic claret. Great nose with blackcurrants, cigar and dark chocolate. Black fruit and tobacco on the pallet. Medium finish with soft tannins. Like this alot.

Like another recent bottle from a different source, this example suggests a wine on its downhill slope. There’s still some mixed berry fruit on the nose, but the aromatic profile here is really more about leather, mahogany, grilled nuts, and tea. The palate doesn’t really pop, so it’s best served with dinner.

Magnificent but austere, in beautiful shape. Opened up after hours in the decanter. Cork emerged intact. The deep crimson garnet color is fantastic given its 26 years, with no bricking. Plum, cassis, walnuts, a hint of cherry cola, and more oak spice than I nowadays cotton to, but what depth of flavor. Abundant tannin -- clean and cleansing, astringent but not dirty or rough. If one forgives the astringency a 93. If not, at least a 90.

Nice fruit aroma still present, palate was mild dark fruit with a little cocoa. Structure was balanced with well integrated tannin and just enough acidity remaining. Might have been a few years past prime but still very enjoyable.

Despite being outside the drinking window, it was still wonderfully balanced, had fruit remaining to have a bright perform and a smooth texture. Not quite as complex as older Bordeaux’s can be, but very ice. Drank with John Rav.

Still a little life. A bit muddy and colour fading rapidly now. Nose was a little reminiscent of French Polish but not in a volatile way. Just deep and nutty. Maybe a bit of leather and tobacco in there too. Palate was still full and now very soft and easy. Finish was quite short but still not drying. I was pleasantly surprised.

The 1995 Clos du Marquis is an enjoyable, rustic wine probably at its apogee now. The wild raspberry, walnut, lapsang souchong, and leather nose is wonderful, but the palate is slightly angular and still loaded with wooly tannin. To some extent, that’s the year. But I wouldn’t wait for the tannin to mellow before consuming these because that beautiful nose will be gone.

With slow braised shoulder of lamb. Silky, glossy, fresh, not tired at all. Not sure this was past its best, but also didn't feel that there was very much there - a very good complement to the food but so reserved a partner it seemed to lack any presence of its own.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis), fig, mushroom, espresso, cedar, black pepper and violet. The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Fully mature. Fruit is fading. Fruitiness does spike after an hour in the glass which gives this wine added complexity in. Fruit pretty much gone on the second day. Acidity and tertiary flavors take over. Best to finish on the first day. Drink up, no point in keeping this any longer.

Dark fruits, brown spices, graphite and damp earth on the nose. Liveley palate with pronounced acidity giving lift, not much fruit left and a bit watery and hollow on the midpalate, moderate lenght. Fully mature and will probably not improve anymore.

Weekend in Minneapolis; 8/17/2018-8/18/2018 (Various Locations): From a mag. To be fair, if corked is a spectrum, this was on the almost drinkable area of it (as compared to some other bottles later that were over the top). It's young and the red fruits are still coming through, but there is a dullness and something is just a touch off.

This was better than I expected, and better than our memory of the previous bottle we drank. Opened about four hours ahead, decanted about two hours ahead. Not a fruit bomb, but the balance was good, and there was enough acidity and tannin to go well with rare duck breast with a sauce of red pepper jelly.

Innocuous. There is some sense of place in this bottle but it feels muffled, subdued, lacking energy. I am not one for fruit bombs but this lacks some extract. I don't think it is the age, or vintage but the wine-making or the wine-growing. Drink soon. It doesn't seem like it will improve.

PWS; some Bordeaux (@ DE): In the bouquet organic and soy flavors. On the palate soy and still some dark berries, chocolate, mocha, completely melted tannin and some sweetness in the finish. Still drinkable, but past its peak. No score. I hope this was an off bottle.

Black cherry red in color. No bricking. Very young in appearance. Black Currant Creamsicle on the nose. All dark fruits. No development. A hint of tannin in the mouth but the acid is definitely more prominent. It is bright on the palate. Fruis are lighter, almost red and it is juicy. It finishes sticky, rustic, and of mid-length. Not great but better than my last bottle.

Rich, succulent dark berry/ blackberry fruit up front that has a slight sweetness. Modest tannins that tail entry are relatively pronounced throughout the palate and finish. For all of its richness there is a freshness and lightness catered to by the acidity. The middle shows a brunt sugar/ mushroom/ loam note that carries into the finish and fades into a trailing toasted oak note. Initially this showed some drying wood tannin on the finish, but that seemed to disappear with a good decant. This came across as a modern effort and is good, if not a bit uninteresting.
Good - Hold or drink with a lengthy decant

Green capsicums and lettuce cabbage on the nose with tobacco leaves and hints of mint leaves. The palate is nicely round almost akin to right bankish fruits but there is a firm yet not overbearing structure. Ready for business and still fresh. Good acidity.

Solid, well developed Bordeaux. Up against several first wines from classified Chateau's, and this stood up well. Very complex, pleasant nose, again (like last time) we could have just smelled it for a while and been quite content. Good balance on the palate, fruit is holding up well for a 20 year old wine. Long finish.

Cork wet right up. Bit fusty, woody maybe touch of taint. Still deep ruby. Double decanted, drank 2 hours later. Quite a tannic wine, slightly grainy. Not unknown in '95s I think. Significant acidity too. But lots to enjoy as well. blackberry and currants, cedar, slightly smoke, warm spices. Medium length. Doubt over quality control, had badly corked previously and this tainted one.

From 375: May be at the end of it's drinking plateau, at least from small format. Throwing lots of tannin. Still has an expressive nose and good acidity, but the fruit is fading. Still offers very pleasurable drinking at a reasonable price point. Drink up!

From 375: Drinking better than the grand cru at this stage. Leoville Las Cases continues to make wine for our children and grandchildren. Well balanced wine with plenty of fruit, acidity and tannins to make it last for years to come.

Don't believe the Critics, there is a lot of life left in this bottle if you happen to have a properly-stored btl of this left. This is still full of stuffing, dimension, character and a very well made wine. Unlike Las Cases can be showy, this is very balanced wine and not at all flashy like Las Cases. A mixed bag of red and more black fruit dominated and quite the integrated package. I tend to like this side of Las Cases quite a bit maybe even more than the Grand Vin. Mature, yes certainly, but certainly not close to the end of it's life. I would drink it in the next 5 years for sure. Enjoyed alongside charcuterie, duck breast confit and some beef tenderloin. Quite enjoyable.

From 375: A wine I once felt was past prime continues to amaze. This is all you can want from a reasonably priced well aged claret. Decanted about an hour. Lovely dark garnet. Lovely nose. Just billowing from the glass. Black berries, smoke from a clean wood fire, roasted nuts and spices. Jeroboam Club 1995 Bordeaux (Bordeaux Quay): very dark colour little development. Monolithic on nose, a solid slab of blackcurrant cabernet fruit. Rich powerful tannic. Plenty of size but very austere and one dimensional. It may loosen up but others at the tasting who know the wine well said it has always been like that and the tannins will outlast the fruit.

Best bottle of this I had. Subtle, soft wine - by no means a nutcracker. I don't think it's likely to get much better from here on. Nice enough I suppose but why bother keeping something 20 years for this result? Typical display of why Bordeaux is good and consistent but at times for me unexciting and struggling to show comparable value for money. All in all - ok.

This bottle proves why Bordeaux should be aged. Not a great wine by any means but soft, subtle, flavors that dance, sing, beckon. Very soft and pliable and enjoyable on the nose, in the mouth and on the finish. So sorry this is my last bottle of a case consumed over the years from the early 2000s to today. A nice run. This was its best showing.

From 375: I once thought this wine was over the hill, but this bottle still sings, and seems to be riding a long plane of maturity. Maturing robe. Nose is discreetly tucked in to the wardrobe, edgy and acidic hiding some dark fruit. Taste is a completely different matter. Well balanced, maturing wine with powerful, mature tannin that must have been pre-eminent in its earlier days. Fruit is still riding in the back-seat. Well composed, well orchestrated and restrained. Only drawback is low level of complexity. If you like maturing Bordeaux of the tannic and slightly prosaic kind, this is fabulous. Will go well with food. If I had a few btls, I'd keep them. Tasted at Riedel Bar, Sogo Enoteca (Yokohama).

Decent classic Bordeaux nose. But the wine is fairly disjointed, the fruit has absolutely run out leaving it with thin body and way too acidic, seriously unbalanced. This wine will absolutely NOT improve. Not too surprising perhaps, it is a second wine after all and was not constructed to last this long. But the 1996 is so terrific that I decided to try also the 95, a mistake clearly. It's not the bottle. I opened an original case which I took out of bond, drank two which were exactly the same as this one. Will donate the rest.

Nose of cedar & mature dark fruit. Tast is a bit tanic with tree bark, dark crushed fruit. This wine may improve with another 10yrs of cellaring.... again, may improve. Having said that, it was relatively pleasant with mostly pasta oriented Italian dishes.

The CT notes here are pretty consistent. Just not much there. Lean, restrained, understated, dull -- all of these work. Perfect cork, a testament to good cellaring. The bottle showed neither bret nor VA, as noted by a couple of tasters. Just smooth, simple and quaffable. Drink up, folks. ( Final thought: my last glass is working well with a little dark chocolate.)

Perfect cork and fill. Mature. Some bitterness initially but mellowed nicely after 30-60min. Tart cherry, cranberry, leather, cedar, red plum, and iron. Still some drying tannins on the medium finish. It probably wont improve much with time though. At current auction prices its a good value.

Decanted and consumed after about 15 minutes. Very restrained wine on all levels--not much nose, somewhat watered down concentration, and low fruit. A little high on the acid. Overall fairly well balanced, but just not much there. Definitely improves with a little time in the decanter. After about an hour it opened up more on the nose, and started showing some autumn leaves and cigar box.

Quite a youthful color with some bricking; nose shows some cherry fruit and some hints of alcohol, some hints of cedar; palate has silky texture at first, lots of cherry fruit, quite tart in the midpalate, good structure on the finish with integrated and drinkable tannins; finish is short-moderate, tart cherry. Overall a simple traditional bordeaux ready to drink with food, not showing any hints of its pedigree.

Fairly different from the bottle a couple of months ago. This time around, reticent on the nose, with not much going on there. On the palate, delicate and resolved, with notes of bing cherry. A resin note on the finish. Light tannins. I didn't pick up the acidity as much on this bottle, which seems to be better balanced overall. Based on this bottle, I would think it's drink near its peak.

One word describes this wine to us: anemic... maybe it was the fact that inconsistent cellaring since I bought it in Amsterdam back in 2000 paid a part in this wine's development... but suffice it to say we would echo "vampe003"'s comments last month... there really was no nose to it, initial impact on taste buds left us wondering what was in the wine's character... but it did have a nice finish... that was its only positive trait... if I had more of this, I would drink it quickly... past its prime and not likely to improve with any more aging.

Pop/poured. Dark fruits, cedar and mature character on the nose. The fruit flavors are excellent and have good depth, but at this point the overall palate tilts a little to far towards acidic for my tastes. As a result, this is not as lush in terms of mouthfeel as it could be. With all that, it does have a surprisingly long finish with some fine tannins that show up with air. I'll update if it improves with air.

From 375. Seems much better than my last bottle, which I felt might be over the hill. Perhaps it was closed down then. Fragrant nose, sweet fruit on the palate and enough acidity to provide a great finish. Better than my last bottle of '95 Leoville Las Cases! At peak, but will hold afew years.

Rather disappointing. Nose was unimpressive - generic bordeaux, in the mouth, again rather ordinary, some blackberry, but no real complexity. Fully mature, no tannins, so the wine was smooth, but just not terribly interesting. Had it at the same time as a 1990 Sociando-Mallet and a 2000 Black Hills Nota Bene, both of which were light years better.

Drank on 12 and 13 February. Fantastic nose - settled, complex, good cedar - tastes great on the palate as well. Really terrific but for (am I imagining this?) some slight greenness on the finish. I noticed this both nights, although I think more in the first couple of tastes and then it disappears? Anyway, on the overall showing last night I bought 3 more of these today, so time will tell. It is fairly tannic on the finish as well, so maybe that's the issue. Looks like it has another 5 years at least to peak, and when the tannins fully ripen this could be a beautiful wine.

Wine was closed with 1 hr decant, more open as night went on, and even more accessible 24 hours later. Good but not great Bordeaux. In short, it is a little lean. Nice nose had a bit of stone and barnyard complimenting dark fruit. Palate had complexity but was not as full bodied or rich as I had hoped, lacked depth. Tannins are still a touch grippy at the end, but not obtrusive. A very pleasant wine, especially after a little air hit it. Drinking well now, no signs of peaking. But not sure if time will coax more from this wine considering the lack of depth of fruit.

Tasted from 375. Ruby with some bricking. Nose of dark fruits (some stewed), cassis, pencil lead, stone. Some intial barnyard which blew off after an hour. Had high hopes for this one but picking it up on the cheap at auction should have re-adjusted my expectations. Nothing on the nose. Nothing harsh about this wine at all as it seems to blend just fine but, it does lack structure, a reasonable finish and that "velvet" that makes a wine worth remembering. I have had the '96 CDM and I think it is better--which reminds me, every time I have the same wine in both '95 and '96, I always think the '96 shows better. I believe there is value in the Chateau and I would buy newer vintages but not this one again.

Bordeaux at Per Gřrans house (Stamerbakken, Bergen, Norway): Incredibly appealing nose. Hard to put words to it. Fruitiness meet secondary aromas. Black currant, camphor. Delicious complexity. Fantastic, and clearly the nose of the flight. On the palate there is great fruit and a fine balance. The fruit is very appearant on the front palate. Great wine. Some bitterness in the finish. Long and acidic. Delicious wine and clearly the best of the flight.

Beautiful intense colours. Nose of sweet fruits - starts off with fresh strawberries, but as it breathes it starts to reveal slightly more jammy accents on the fruits. Smooth and elegant. Starts off by being pretty full-bodied and slightly powerful but after some airing it turns out to be well-balanced with moderate tannins. Long smooth finish. The word elegant comes to mind. Definitely worth getting another bottle.

This is a very enjoyable Left Bank Bordeaux with some nice age.
Showing red and black fruits with earth, chocolates, tobacco leaf, light oak, vegetables, wet leaves, herbs and peppercorn.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.
Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tart pomegranates.
This 24 year old is showing great complexity and mouthfeel at this point. Elegant and tasty.
Needs 90 minutes to open up properly and show some tannins.

A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc.

Fully mature. Fruit is fading. Fruitiness does spike after an hour in the glass which gives this wine added complexity in. Fruit pretty much gone on the second day. Acidity and tertiary flavors take over. Best to finish on the first day. Drink up, no point in keeping this any longer.

Cork wet right up. Bit fusty, woody maybe touch of taint. Still deep ruby. Double decanted, drank 2 hours later. Quite a tannic wine, slightly grainy. Not unknown in '95s I think. Significant acidity too. But lots to enjoy as well. blackberry and currants, cedar, slightly smoke, warm spices. Medium length. Doubt over quality control, had badly corked previously and this tainted one.

Much better than our previous encounters - Decanted it for 35minutes and it needed it. The tannins are well round and smooth and this is now drinking very well. A lot of fruit in this one now and no harshness whatsoever. Lacks complexity and excitement but still a very nice wine.

Decanted for about an hour.Expected more to be truthfull. Body is there and there is a nice nose to it but it feel a bit crude and tannis are not rounded so its a bit in your face.

Tasted from 375. Ruby with some bricking. Nose of dark fruits (some stewed), cassis, pencil lead, stone. Some intial barnyard which blew off after an hour. Similar on the palate with good density of fruit balaced by some minerality, good acidity and and tannic structure. Still youthful overall but starting to show some secondary characteristics. Continiued to improve with time in the glass.

Restrained with remaining structure; tart, medium body; balanced; touch of green peppers at the end; medium tannins--could use a few more years in the bottle.

Ruby, bright, young in appearance.
Nose of pepper, cigar box.
Big tannins, flavours of dark cherry, summer fruits. Overall vibrant and long finish.

From 375. Popped and poured.
Still a deep ruby color, with a nose of cassis, violets, and milk more than dark chocolate. The palate is medium full bodied and the tannins are fully integrated. Graphite, cassis, with great fruit. Very pleasing even if not terribly complex. Delicious now. 91 pts.

Not as good as I expected, not as balanced as I remember other clos du Marquis being. Don't save any longer since it probably wouldn't beenfit from aging. 2nd bottle 3/7/08 confirms this opinion. Drink remainder now with food

Light in color. Delicate to medium bodied. Still some tannin, good fruit (strawberries) but I thought it a bit thin.

Decanted 1.5 hours; seemed really tight at first, but opened up somewhat after 1.5 hours. Mellow fruit, but seemed to have high acidity. Not a good value, in my opinion, for the current price (50 euros at Nicolas in Paris).

Decanted 1.5 hours. Nose started very tight, but opened up with swirling to reveal Cab-dominated nose that is still quite primary but starting to turn the corner. Palate is mid to full bodied and very much in balance. Coming along nicely; Wait 2-3 years before opening another.

An easy afternoon with close friends; Bordeaux second wines (@ PdV): Still very backward. Doesn’t give an inch. Some lead pencil. Full bodied and very concentrated. A lot of good bitterness and tannin. Eventually this will be great.
