Drank from Magnum in Josephinenhuette red wine glass. Straight from bottle. Great wine with typical Hubacker tropical nose and despite the age a relative light color. On the palate great minerality & fruit. Score less than 2010 but still great wine

Along with the '09, this was decanted for ~24-hrs too. 4th wine in an evening of 5 Hubackers, most if not all of us thought this was either the '07 or '09, with most converging on '07 given that we felt it had some age... Beautiful tropical fruits perfume, with tinge of honey notes. Ripe fruits (nectarines) accompanied with "brightness", this was just delicious. Based on tonight's showing, not sure if it'll improve significantly down the road, so enjoy it whilst it's so "open"!

Leap Day dinner Trelio's (Clovis Ca.): Such purity with the subtly ripe orchard, exotic tropical fruits...clean and fresh with a perfect balance of sweetness and savory minerality...lime blossom florals, wet slate, chalk dust...has a cream to it, yet energized and refreshed with citrus. Fantastic length...sweet to floral to savory...very enjoyable!

Keller Hubacker vertical tasting 2006-2017 plus X (@Private location): Glass: Gabriel Gold Popped and poured. Clear, golden yellow color. Clean, beautiful nose with some green apple, caramel, warm wet stones, sweet yellow fruit and honey. For me the best wine of this flight! Great tension and pressure on the palate, but also almost perfect balance and it is resting in itself. Some ripe pineapple, wonderful mineral core. Fantastic length. Still not at its full peak I would say. 93-94+

Popped around noon, and decanted into a Voss bottle, to be served during dinner around 7'ish pm. Served blind side-by-side the '07 Hugel Schoelhammer Riesling. Didn't pick these 2 to be rieslings when cold - was thrown off by the very chalky and slatey scents. Ripe on the palate, with a teeny bit of sweetness - bits of grapefruit & nectarines. This gained in weight (and sweetness) as it warmed up in the glass, but at the same time, losing the tautness and tension that it had when it was colder. Very much preferred the last bottle that I had almost 2-yrs ago. Will be interesting to see how these '07s develop further down the road...

Was a bit concerned as cork seemed to have been pushed out by about 1mm. Still the wine seemed fine. Still a fairly pale yellow. Very round and well balanced, a bit richer and more fruit driven than your usual German GG Riesling but very nice to drink now. But never oily or fat. Medium finish. Very nice to drink now, even though I prefer my whites a bit crisper and more mineral than fruit driven.

93. Danke CR

Had this in the flight after the Weil KG. Given how the KG performed, I honestly didn't expect this to keep pace with it, but how wrong I was. Flowers, dried orange-peel and grapefruit on the nose. The palate was where this shone. So much intensity, yet well-balanced with freshness/acidity, with flavours of grapefruits, nectarines unfolding in the glass. I scored this a tad behind the Weil as I had thought the Weil had a bit more poise and grace; But the majority scored this as the dry white of the evening... In any case, I have no doubt this will inch ahead the Weil in time to come, given the "material" it has, the intensity & depth that it displayed... Great!

Another ullaged bottle, the second one from this case - this time 4.5cm below the cork. Again, the quality of the wine does not seem to have been impacted. Consistent with previous notes. Aérien, elegant, pure and precise, stone and fruit, intense but light, dances across the palate, ripe but with sufficient acidity, very good length. Effortless.

Babs' Birthday! (Hillside Supper Club, SF): Moderate minus yellow in the glass - color shows some signs of development, as one would expect. Classic nose of petrol and lime. Slight hint of riper Riesling fruit - sweet peach, confected nectarine. Slightly reductive. Slate. No hint of botrytis. Clean. On the palate, slight RS (feels 7g), slightly elevated alcohol (13%), acid is on the lower end of high. It has length and density and mineral energy (and slight frizzante!) but it’s starting to soften out and I want a bit more acid. Still, phenomenal. Score: 8.5-9

Ripe and fleshy still, but with excellent cut. dense but not heavy, it is full bodied but with excellent balance. More on the orchard fruit spectrum and a little tropical, but not blowsy. It seems walking the tightrope between ripe and overripe, but stays in bounds. Powerful, imposing, and deep but still fresh. It may develop subtlety in time, but at this point it is pretty forward and comes at you. Impressive and very enjoyable.

Pristine bottle. Much more herbal and cool than the Kirchspiel 2007, ripe fruit, Alpine bitters, dry but juicy, wonderful chalky undertow, crystalline acidity, lovely precision and definition, hint of vanilla on the finish, very good length. Has entered its plateau of maturity but there is more in store.

Almost one year since my previous TN. Rather wet cork, 2 cm ullage on this bottle. It does not seem to impact the quality of the wine. Inimitable Keller-style, crystalline purity, airy and floral, ripe fruit impeccably balanced by scintillating acidity even in this ripe vintage, rich but supremely elegant, perfect weight (13% ABV), stony minerality and aromatic herbs, hint of vanilla on the long but slightly light finish. Now - 2020 (but perfect bottles may live longer).

From magnum. Richness of 2007... clean and mineral-driven but slightly honied. Acidity is very integrated at this point leaving the touch of RS apparent but it works great for the overall texture. Has an opulent character more than being firm and serious, and that seems to have come with maturity since I had it 5 years ago. I like that these wines aren't shy about vintage character.

Keller Hubacker Vertical 2005 - 2013 (Vinothek Villa Behr (Wendlingen/Germany)): Nose: Clean, medium intense, developing nose with ripe yellow fruits, lots of lime stone. Palate: Dry, with well integrated, medium+ acidity. From tasting profile a mixture of 2006 and 2008. I like the combination of mineral notes and ripe fruit in this wine. Great Riesling, typical keller, fine, creamy melting, decent ripe fruits like pineapple, passionfruit, mango, no oxidation sign, you don't feel the 13% alcohol, the minerality gives the necessary balance, very long clean but impressive finish, potential to 96-97 in the next 5 years, next time I willdecant it for 2 hours, next day more intensive, more structure

A wine of crystalline purity and precision, "aérien", with a balance between ripe fruit and racy acidity that is as effortless as it is magical. Smoky minerality, perfect weight, excellent length. Luxe, calme et volupté. It may or may not live for a long time, but I can't imagine this wine getter better than this. Or will it develop further layers of complexity? We'll see.

Much more energetic than the 2006, more tightly wound; incredibly pure, intense yet supremely elegant, mouthwatering acidity and stupendous minerality sheathed in lovely sweet fruit make for a totally seducing wine, deep yet ever so charming, at the very pinnacle of winemaking in Germany (and the world). 93 Punkte - Trotz seiner kompakten und kraftvollen Statur wirkt der 07er Hubacker GG von seiner äußeren Schale bereits zugänglich - eine Eigenschaft, die von den jüngeren Jahrgänge aktuell nur der 2007er aufweist.

D.C. Dinner for Greg Golec (Toscana Cafe - DC): Interestingly, the aromas of this wine had more aged riesling characteristics than I expected - with subtle diesel, white florals and lychee. As is the case with a lot of the Keller's I've had, this has a dense palate with a soft fruit profile and subtle acidity on the finish. Certainly an elegant riesling, but not worth the price of admission to me.

Big time GG. Smoky minerality like chalk dust, mango, pineapple and passion fruit on the nose. With some time even hints of white chocolate comes to my mind. Very big in the mouth, but thanks to the acidity and minerality extremely focused and straight. We drank this over one hour and did not re-frigde it. With more air and temp the wine got better and better. Multilayered and complex. Goosebumps all over my body. That's how I want to have my Riesling GG.

A ripe and fleshy but clean and fresh nose. Beautiful texture and richness, with great minerality and depth. Red more than green apples, some quince, and floral notes. I really like Hubacker and even more so in this vintage. It maybe lacks the crispness of Kirchspiel or the other GG bottlings, but the palate breadth and texture is beautiful. Very long, and surprisingly approachable. Full bodied, with some tannic grip creeping in on the back end. This is very long, and while very full bodied, I do don't perceive any heat. Very well done. 93pts

Friday Night Wines w/ Bob, Selma & Summer (Bob and Selma's Apartment): Opened for about 45 minutes prior to consumption. At first nose was dominated by wet slate, crushed rocks, and white flowers. Such a fresh wine with the freshness of a high-altidue spring meadow. The nervosity of the wine shifted gears to a more floral driven nose with beautiful white and yellow flowers mixed with subtle acacia honey tones. I have a personal problem with wines like these. Most people I talk with indicate that these wines require patience and will be just stunning with years of aging, but I find myself having a hard time keeping my hands off of them. I am drawn to these wines by their nervy minearls which can be an aspect that diminishes with time...I don't dioubt that a wine like this would be great in 15-20 years, but will it be as electric on the palate? Glad I tried one now.

Holiday Cocktail Hour with Matt and Summer (Washington, DC): My first Keller. Needless to say I was impressed. A very mineral driven wine. I mean, it's really intense in that way. We probably consumed this entirely too fast, but with sip after sip this wine continued to reveal itself. At first, tight and nervy, attacking the palate with a blast of acidic citrus flavors over rocks and steel, then morphing into a beguiling herbal and floral nose with stone fruit flavors stretching out on a long and detailed finish. This wine has years to go. Drinking window? From here to eternity....

Simple Series VI: Grosses Gewach Dinner (Peach Garden, OCBC Building): One of the more opulent wines in the line-up, this was very good. Nose had an almost pungent fragrance to it, with toasty notes, petrol drops, white flowers and a rich underlayer of ripe, almost tropical yellow fruit scents. Palate, as would be expected after that nose, was rich and powerful, with ripe lemons melding into ripe white fruit scents. Yet, unlike the slightly loose-knit 2008, this had a lovely sense of delineation and a precise balance that belied its weight. A good long finish rounded the wine off, showing more fruit alongside attractive flowery scents and a really nice minerality. Good now, but this was still clearly young. Will be a smashing wine with age.

2010 Simple Wine Dinner Series No.6 - SBSS "Dry" Dinner (Peach Garden @ OCBC Building): Alcohol :: 13% Tasted blind. Very ripe Tropicana fruits of pineapple, peaches which is precise and aromatic along with crushed rock and mineral. Perfectly ripe entry that showing intense and good vibrancy and balance with green and red apple, citrus stone fruits and spicy flavors that deliver a long juicy finish. A more fruits driven wines well balance by its acidity, minerality and dry extract. Very good too. Would be even better with another 5-10yrs bottle age.

Honey, spice and fairly ripe yellow fruit on the fresh and enjoyable nose. A whiff of alcohol. Broad on the palate: mouth coating ripe white and yellow fruit, stony minerals, well integrated acidity, honey. Long aftertaste in which the mineral component dominates. Impressive.

Großes Gewächs 2007 (Trestle on Tenth): Starts out much quieter though sharper on the nose than the Kirchspiel, but it really blooms in the glass and by the end is much more expressive, combining the freshness of the Kirchspiel with something more savory, like something deliciously seasoned roasting in the kitchen. Freshness remains the main theme and the finish feels like it practically trails ice crystals.

I love the detail and precision in these wines. Layers of minerality, crisp stone fruit and citrus essence. Wonderful acidity really opens your palate to everything this wine has to show. Benefited from some air in the glass and a serving temp around 65F.

Keller is one of the "not to miss" producers of Riesling and this shows why... Simply awesome blend of minerals, acidity and cool fruit. Notes of lychee, melon. Very long.

Now - 2032.

93pts

Tasted blind. Easily nailed as a German Riesling GG. The minerality is tremendous. Both chalk and flint. Notes of lychee too. Painfully young.

2010 Simple Wine Dinner Series No.6 - SBSS "Dry" Dinner (Peach Garden @ OCBC Building): Alcohol :: 13%
Tasted blind.

Stunning bottle of Riesling but give it plenty of time in the fridge or in a decanter before enjoying this youngster.

Very opulent with tropical notes of banana peel, peach, passion fruit and pineapple alongside gripping minerality. Granted, the wines puppy fat fruit tightened up over the two days I drank this, but I still prefer the Kirchspiel's elegance and restraint.

Dense, pure and long but as a matter of personal taste the sweetness was still too dominating for my idea of a dry wine. Maybe this needs to go with some sweet and sour pork....
