The Four Seasons Tasting 2006 Bordeaux First Growths (Aubergine Restaurant): Deep black garnet colour. Lifted notes of fresh earth and red fruits. The palate is a little high-toned but not quite volatile; the wine is straightforward with pleasant red fruit flavours as well as notes of cola. Robust, medium-bodied and a medium length but with a slight sting to it (VA?). As it opened, it seemed to be cork-affected but not corked.

Not decanted. Crimson-tinged, deepish dark-red core with a thin dark ruby fringe. The nose is reserved for approximately 2.5 hours, at which stage cassis meets chocolate and new barrique. At about 3.5 hours there is nice red berry fruit emerging and, on the following day with around a quarter of the bottle left, a much greater expression of cabernet, with blueberry featuring and the oak nowhere to be seen. In the mouth it is very tannic, unyielding and of a shortish length for the first time-bracket, after which a little sweetness and better length are noted, though it's still oaky. On the 2nd day, the cabernet fruit has taken its proper place and is firmly in control and the sweetness is increased. This very good plus Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois is still tightly coiled and has a promising upside.

This one evolves a lot over many hours. Initially, it is over-oaked and uninviting. After a couple hours, the fruit becomes more forward and concentrated, and the finish is long and chewy- it reminded me of an Amarone more than a Bordeaux. I let it sit for another two hours, and it changed again completely. Now it is giving some very pleasant black tea flavors with round tannins.
If this bottle is any indication of what the 2010 vintage will be like, then we are in for a treat 🤟☝️ Going backwards… Medium finish with a hint of spice and red fruit, balanced but still some grippy tannins. The pallet is where the action is. Silky smooth, velvety, luscious but not overpowering. Cherries 🍒 and chocolate 🍫. The nose is also pretty solid, cherries, strawberries, hints of spice and maybe some dark plums and prunes. Hints of mushroom and earth, very preliminary. Color is deep garnet Drinks well now, probably can age another 4-8 years, will improve slightly. Incredible QPR. Will get more.

Some years ago I bought some bottles of this wine at our club as I was familiar with Larose Trintaudon and knew 2010 was a really good year for left bank red Bordeaux. (Full body, taste of berries). I gave the wine a 91+. On 10/13/2021 I had some of the wine again and thought it had definitely improved. I gave it 92+ points.

This has really come on in the last year. Cassis, smoke touch if chocolate and slate on the nose. Great balance, ripe grainy tannins, a fresh lift, 14% but doesn’t feel it, medium length. At a nice piont where there is still plenty of fruit but nice complex terrtiary notes.

Pnp; nose is ripe raspberry and blackberry and gravelly with hints of pencil shavings. Palate is also very nice with rich dark fruits and ripe cherry with cocoa and lots of acidity to wash it out. Soft tannins are present but maybe a bit overpowered by the acidity. Still, it’s quite good and definitely has the stuffing to go another 5 years at least. Paired well with French cassoulet.

Pleasantly surprised at how good this was. Really beautiful on the nose. Powerful, complex scents of crushed dark fruits, lavender and sous bois fill the glass. Full-bodied and silky in texture, yet still unmistakably Old World in style. Jam-packed with ripe, delicious plum, black cherry and dark currant fruit, matched deftly to a moderate acidity. Shows very good depth and intensity on the mid-palate. Very well balanced and harmonious. Finishes long with lingering notes of leather, coffee and mineral. A complex and delicious Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeouis gem. 50+5+13+16+7=91

Double decanted back into the bottle and drinking well right now; nose is concentrated dark fruits—dried black cherry and prune with hints of herbs and black pepper with a leather finish and smoke as it opens up. Palate is tannic but balanced with nice mineraly acidity. Blackberries and black pepper spice are present but otherwise the palate is very hard to place. Paired well with rack of lamb at Jay’s on Third in Stone Harbor.

Stunning value. Deep and brooding with lots of blackcurrent and vanilla and some oak. Still primary but shows lots of elegance and finesse, despite being relatively tightly would. Day 4, with just a small glass remaining in a half-bottle: impressive crimson-dark red, with fade at rim. A lovely and ripe very dark berry nose, with the cabernet showing more than the merlot. Some new French barrique fitting in nicely. The oak is more evident in the full bodied mouth. While it no longer shields its core of fruit with the wall of tannin, acid and alcohol it possessed shortly after bottling, the tannin level is clearly apparent to enable this wine to see its 20th birthday in good shape. Fine and drinking well now.

Cru Burgeois Bordeaux (Ripple - Washington, DC): After a bunch of 2014s and 2012s, this 2010 popped out and demonstrated why I love this vintage so much. Tart but deep berries and violets on the nose. Full and tannic but it has this smooth, velvety presence on the palate. Straight up deliciousness with its juicy currant fruit, which is matched by anise, graphite, campfire and coffee. This will improve for quite some time.

Dark red/purple at the rim - cassis and a little oak on the nose. Medium bodied, plump dark fruit with a hint of cocoa, open and accessible, slightly grainy but well-behaved tannins, well balanced acidity: this seems to be a wine that has been made for early enjoyment, and it succeeds in that aim. Just a trifle simple and dilute.

Really need to give this wine 3 hours in a decanter. Lovely CS/Merlot blend with a bit of bottle age from one of the great Bordeaux vintages.
There is a core of dusty black cherry on the nose and the palate. Secondary aromas of graphite, vanilla, crushed stone, raspberry and black plum.
Strong, grippy tannins, vibrant acidity and perfectly integrated alcohol.
Flavours are rich and complex with lots of black plum, cedar, chocolate, smoke and black cherry.
