Just a little lacking in character, or too much uninteresting character...not sure if that makes sense. It is original, but is not as refined as their other wines despite the single vy bottling. 90? 89? K&L Tent Champagne tasting

(Disgorged in 2022, base year 2015, 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay) Light yellow colour with a greenish hue and a fruity nose showing red apples, minerals and with a hint of tutti-frutti and popcorn. Smoothing citrus acidity with a creamy mid and showing with a distinct plums peel bitterness on the lengthy finish. This should reward some further cellaring to open up. (Probably best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

Lemon, touch of figs, spices and oak on nose. Palate with some subtle complexity from oak but not overwhelming. Quite deep but perhaps lacking in real interest versus the blends considering it is a monocru.

Light, fresh. Very light brioche subtle nose. Aperitif style, dosage a bit obvious. Not a lot of complexity. A sparkling to quaff but not to deeply spiritually commune with. Don't think I would want to drink a bottle. More creaminess as the wine breathed. Perhaps it needs time to put on some complexity? Not sure of the disgorgement date but feels as if I have a young bottle.

(Third release of this Cuvée, disgorged in 2008, base year 2003 with 10% reserves, 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay from 50+ years old vines in Pierry) Lovely yellow colour with a maturing nose showing cream, minerals and tutti-frutti in a wonderful way and opens up with fresh cut grass and some popcorn to spice it up. Lovely palate showing smoothing acidity with a delicious creaminess combined with some tarragon liquorice notes combined with some mint and with a very nice and balanced finish showing a eucalyptus oiliness in a special, but very interesting way. (Drinking very well with 15 years of post-disgorgement cellaring)

08 or 09 base, 2014 purchase. Full straw. Nicely rich and rounded, decent mousse. Really quite vinous. A little more evolved than an excellent bottle from the same case last year and consequently just lacking a little shape a pond focus on the finish. Just about ****

This is all about Summer stone fruits and berries, coupled with chalky precision. There are Baker's yeast notes too. It is a Champagne of delicacy and finesse, with the finest of beads and creamy mouth. It is dry and satisfying, with some fruit rind bitterness and mineral punctuating the long finish.

Pale gold, pleasant apple, mineral nose. Wispy bubbles, rather artsy. As the many notes prove, it is complex. Ripe apple core, with almond or hazelnut, subtle as well as intense mineral notes. Quite stylish, so many distinct components joined, like admiring a lovely female in couture dress, all so interesting, pleasing.

Rather pale champagne so I suspect 2014/2015 base (if 2015 is already available).
This is one of the nicer Taittinger for me, mostly because a lot of things are going on. Yes, apples and a bit yeasty palate... acidity is rather on the low side. But ripeness of the fruit is quite intense. A lot of structure and depth going on. Some aeration and slow warming up reveals another facette of flavours. From quite some harsh bitterness to some very harmonious pleasant fruitiness. Would also be quite fun as a still wine. Body is medium + and quite a crunchy long aftertaste.
Would be interesting with some bottle aging and I wish there was a tad more acidity.

(Disgorged in April 2018, base year 2013, 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay from single vineyard in Pierry) Lovely yellow colour with a fine stream of bubbles slowly leading to the top on this maturing bottle. Notes of popcorn, minerals and hazelnuts dominate this lovely maturing nose in a fruitful and intense way. Softer acidity of red apples combined with tutti frutti and minerals on the palate with a nice balanced bitterness on the finish. Very accessible already, but should reward extra cellar time to show an even more delightful palate! This has really awarded the extra cellar time and is drinking perfectly right now! (Probably best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

A wine dinner compèred by Douglas Blyde (London): PN with some Chardonnay. Based on a single year (not disclosed) and six years’ bottle age. Very dry, oak only really noticeable on the finish. Savoury, very clean. Very crisp. Structured, apple-notes, soft, can taste the oak ageing in the structure.

Tonight, excellent. Deep golden color, fine persistent mousse. Impeccable balance between the Pinot and Chard fruit, giving the wine a stone fruit palate. If the nose was more floral, it would almost be a northern Rhone blanc with bubbles. The partial wood aging adds a slight tropical note, but adds to the complexity of the wine in a good way. I didn't scan the code, but my guess is this a more recent bottling as the dosage was a bit evident, although not obtrusive. A good acid/chalk back bone. An excellent NV and one that will age into an even better place. Add the elegant package and the QPR is there even at the Grand Marque price point. Taittinger is nailing it right now and this bottle is on point. More please.

Lovely weight and richness right away. This had had an extra three years in bottle by the time we opened it. Plenty of creme patisserie and brioche on the nose. Silky and powerful in the mouth. This really needs some decent food alongside. My wish would be for meaty fish such as turbot, halibut or monkfish.

Works well as an apertitif and with food (lobster and lobster bisque) though curiously it seemed thinner and slightly tinny after food. First 2/3 bottle ****

Bottle variation, personal preference, both? Notwithstanding all of that, tonight's bottle was quite enjoyable- love the color, cut, verve. The fruit quality was above average, the same for the finish. I find this to be well made, quite fresh and nicely balanced; nice call on the dosage. A solid choice for every day, or the a night on the town. Quite versatile and structured. recommended

(Disgorged in fall of 2015) Youthful and intensive nose showing oak, citrus and bread which is also dominating the palate. Lots of malic apples and baked bread. This cuvée is not as good as the cuvées was a couple of years ago. Feel a bit too much mainstream and not as rustic. Maybe a couple of years of extra cellaring could help with development. Best with 4-8 years of extra cellaring.

From a single plot of land surrounding Chateau de la Marquetterie, this is a blend of 45% Chardonnay and 55%PN. It is coming in a more complex fashion, a bit to oppose "the Prelude" freshness and precision with more relaxed approach. 20% of the blend is vinified in oak casks to help define the style.

Intense lime green color. Sophisticated and rather subtle but very complex nose showing aromas of ripe red apple, some toasty autolytic character, a hint of nutty nougat notes and a touch of cherry-driven red fruit hidden beneath a veil of ripe citrus fruits. Rich, full-bodied and juicy on the palate with broad, complex and moderately toasty flavors of ripe citrus fruits, some oak spice, a little nougat, hints of juicy cherries and ripe apples, an autolytic hint of sweetbread and brioche. Very small, fine and creamy mousse. Balanced, high acidity providing the wine lovely freshness and structure. The finish is really long and juicy with ripe, supple flavors of ripe red apples, red-toned fruit notes, some sweet nougat character and hints of autolytic toast and brioche.
Here we have a single-vineyard Champagne with lots of depth, character and quite pronounced toasty character providing the wine gravitas without making it come across too weighty. The subtle nutty hints of oak are married perfectly with the toasty autolytic notes and the fruit shows enough concentration to shine through with ease. Although showing nice toastiness already, the wine still feels quite primary, so there is no need to pop one open too soon. Overall this is easily a notch or two above the regular Taittinger bottling and one of my favorite Grande Marque NV Champagnes. Well worth the 60€.

Clean and crisp white peach and apricot with white flowers. Loads of mousse on the entry. Again, clean, bright and refreshing with light citrus and apricot flavors balanced with some pinot noir weight. Persistent. Not to sound vapid, but very Taittinger in style, but with better weight and breadth than the other NV bottlings coming i suppose from the 55% pinot. I prefer this to the others as well as the (current) 2007 vintage. To try to date the wine, this was given to me at the winery in October 2015. Really pretty good for this style.

Wow, this is really yellow. Plenty of ripe, oak-covered apple on the nose along with butterscotch, toast, spices and some cherry fruit underneath everything else. Smells like fat, though with some crispness also. On the palate ripe, round and viscous. The dosage seems high though the wine finishes pleasantly bitter. Quite obviously oaky with notes of apple, orange and cola. Really vinous with solid acidity. Not my style at all but the acidity saves the day by providing the wine plenty of drinkability

(Disgorged spring of 2007) Light yellow colour and with a very youthful nose showing minerals, citrus and sulphuric notes, but opening up showing mushrooms and apricots. Palate is very pleasant showing some reductive notes and with a very nice butterscotch finish. Very nice cuvée that has developed nicely with 7-8 years of extra cellaring and still feeling very youthful and fresh. Will be interestning to see how this cuvée develops with another decade of extra cellaring!

A blend of Chardonnay (55%) and Pinot Noir (45%) from the Marquetterie vineyard. All plots vinified separately, some in stainless steel and some in oak barrels. Blended together and aged for 5 years on the lees before disgorging. Dosage 12 g/l.
Pale lime green color. Somewhat restrained and understated yet still enjoyably nuanced nose with aromas of spicy red apples, baked apples, some custard pastries, a little bit of delicate nuttiness and a red-fruited hint of Pinosity. The wine feels rather full-bodied and vinous on the palate with flavors of ripe citrus fruits, rather unripe red apples, stony minerality, a little bit of rich lemon curd character, light autolytic tones of brioche and a subtle hint of savory oak spice. The dosage feels a little bit through as a subtle, honeyed richness at the tip of the tongue. The wine is enjoyably structured with its high acidity and fine, creamy and persistent mousse. The finish is ripe, rich and quite lengthy with nuanced flavors of ripe white fruits, lemon zest, some pithy grapefruit bitterness, a little bit of herbal character, a hint of nutty autolysis and a rich touch of nougat.
A very vinous and hedonistic single vineyard Champagne that shows enjoyably much complexity and richness. The dosage could be a tad smaller as it feels like it cuts through a bit too clearly without contributing much to the wine. Nevertheless, the wine is so impressive and enjoyably toasty that even the dosage part doesn't bother me much. Overall the wine is drinking beautifully now, but most likely it will only benefit from further aging in a cellar. Great stuff, noticeably better than the regular NV Taittinger and worth its price at 60,90€.

Mature, full nose. Fat yellow orchard fruit. Toasty and harmonius. Full, tasty and toasty, almost roasted palate. Balanced with yellow fruit, good acid and lovely development. Nutty finish. Saturday Lunch at The Square, Bruton Street, London (The Square, 6-10 Bruton St, London W1J 6PU): Disgorged in 2009. Golden bronze colour. Little mousse but beautiful full and masculine bead. Nose is yeasty bread, elderflower and shoe cream. Palate has a fresh uplifted attack with a lanolin middle and an absolutely brilliant elderflower mouth coating back end that is full and rich but very fresh and goes on forever. Wow! The has the body and length of a white Burgundy Grand Cru. From a single vineyard of very old vines. With an hour in the glass it developed an incredible richness on both the nose and the palate. One of the best NV I have drank.

Delivers a lot of specificity and minerality. For me the Pinot Noir is shining through strongly, although only at 55% of the blend. Suspect the 45% Chardonnay will come through more with ageing. A real treat for someone who is looking for personality in stead of mellowed out blends. Will be interesting to follow this a few years, imagine it could score another 2 points by then.

An open nose with dried citrus, apple purée, strawberries, bisquits and slight mushroomy earthiness. Dry, rich and rather fullbodied palatal feel with intense fruit (ripe apple and a touch of stone fruits), refreshing lively acidity and expressive moussé coating the palate with toasted nutty and bready nuances.

Very disappointing. A pleasing, light mousse but its effervescence quickly becomes insubstantial. There's a light, flowery mouth to it that quickly becomes cloying. Mid gold colour, mousse was quite aggressive at first but settled down to a fine steady bead. Fruity nose with yeasty notes and a little bit of oak. Brigitte Birthday Dinner (Denver, CO): Crisp but with a distinct forward fruitiness (apples and some citrus) on the nose and palate with good yeast and chalk. A rather shrunken cork, suggesting an older bottle (I would expect, given this wine is almost unheard of, that it might sit around for a while - the bottle was quite dusty when I picked it up). Bright, metallic yellow, with a single chimney of tufty mousse, and the occasional bubble elsewhere. Raspberry and peach nose, with a faint puffed-wheat background, but not enough to spoil it. Surprisingly neutral taste - creamy-tasting, a little of the nose showing through, good soft mousse. The finish is unpleasantly metallic. I don't dislike this wine - but there's not much there to like, either. You can get much better value elsewhere. [Single-vineyard; 12.5% abv; Fortnum & Mason, ~£45]

Lovely yellow colour with a fine stream of bubbles slowly leading to the top on this maturing bottle.

This cuvée is not as good as the cuvées was a couple of years ago. Feel a bit too much mainstream and not as rustic. Maybe a couple of years of extra cellaring could help with development.

Nice hints of maturity both on the nose and in the taste. Fresh acidity but with a bit of warm tones as well. Should serve well with a couple of years of cellaring.
