This wine has really held up well, it survived a plane flight to Florida and a car ride back to Michigan, plus aged nine years. Well balanced, fruit still red berry, and balanced with the acidity.

This wine is in a nice place at this time. Taking on some secondary characteristics. Really mellow, balanced, with some elegance. Drinking window is way off.

PnD 1/2 bottle let air for 1hr. Seems I could not count last year as this is in fact my last bottle. Dense dark purple from core to almost the rim which is starting to go orange. Fresh and herbal on the nose with a pruny note. Medium(+)with soft fleshy ripe fruit skin tannins. Plump fat fruit flavours with a touch of acidity on the palate but fig prune and blackberry dominate with a slight oxidative note. In a nice place that suggests drinking up ASAP.

Served double blind. This was opened two days prior and stored under vacuum. A very dark nose with a whole bunch of cheap raspberry jam. This wine is over-fruited, without sufficient structure, acidity, or even tannin. Comes off quite nondescript, with just lots of fruit and a slight hint of brown spice.
This is a very good 'complete' wine although not overly complex. A good dark garnet in colour and although filtered on decanting shows a diffuse cloudiness, the bottle had no sediment. The full fresh fruitiness (cherry bias/strawberry) is forward and balanced by a discreet acidity and spiciness. Tannins & oakeyness are in check, the finish is persistent but a bit hot (alcohol).

Very consistent with previous note. In a great drinking place right now that I would not risk missing not that I need to worry as this was my last bottle. What a great accomplishment in what was reported to be such a challenging vintage.

Jammy but not too much so. Mix of red and black fruit. Nice acidity. Tannins still a bit tight. Might have been great with 1 hour decanted (or cellared for another year or two) but we didn't try it this way.

'11 was a challenging vintage, but the great ones find a way. And so it is with this wine. It's aromatic, and poised, with lively acidity and well integrated tannins that give way to juicy, very appealing black and red raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, and spice fruit flavors. Lingering finish. Great value at $22!

Notes match my last bottle though the nose isn't quite as complex so to a 90 from a 91. Still drinking very well with all of the structural notes fully integrated. I have two bottles left and plan to drink one each of the next two years.

PnD let air for 1hr. Deep saturated purple to clear rim. Blackberry pate de fruit and eau de vie on the nose with a touch of sage boozy but good boozy. Medium weight even though you may have expected more heft with ripe berry skin tannins. Blackberry raspberry fig rosemary licorice and sage on the palate. Huge and boozy and racy all at once. A wine that is hedonistic and food friendly at the same time. Shocker!

Pop and pour, consumed over 2 days. My experience with Bedrock zins have been mixed. This bottle seemed slightly more restrained and acidic. These were both vast improvements from some of their other zins which I found to be downright jammy. There is a lot of red fruit, and a lot of zippy acidity on the back end to keep the flavors in check. I enjoyed this.

My last bottle (of 8) of this which is a shame. This is better than the price tag/name. Pop and pour, this took about 30 minutes to open at this point, and kept getting better until the bottle was drained. Purple in color. The nose has some bramble along with black cherries and some black raspberries. There is a nice complexity. The fruit is not exuberant but still there. A nice depth with black fruits, some wood and earth. Good acidity. Nice texture. Very tasty. I should have cellared some longer, but when I go in the cellar, its easy to pull as its always tasty, inexpensive and always a hit. Next time, I will "misfile" a bottle I think.

Good PnP on night one, but even better when revisited on night two. Wine picked up some weight and depth. Lighter red berry fruit, lithe, slight magenta coloring. Juicy acidity. Would recommend holding 1-2 years to let this come into its own.

Really nice. Medium bodied, medium + acid, smooth and fruit forward. Some complexity from spice and bramble. Continues to be an excellent value and in a great spot for us right now.

Wasn't my favorite Bedrock - seemed a little hot, astringent and possibly unbalanced, but these deficincies also seemed to blow off over time. Concentrated berry fruit with some brambly characteristics as well.

Splash decant ... This is really hitting its stride now. Fresh, creamy blue and black fruit up front, followed by some spice on the mid and a hint of unexpected barnyard funk to finish. An interesting and complex Zin expression, with a lot going on. ... Definitely not what you'd expect from a $20 offering. Punches way, WAY above its price point and year-in, year-out is a terrific value.

Now two years after its release and this is showing beautifully. Amazingly complex aromas of blackberry, raspberry, plum, cocoa, pepper and herbs. The flavors on the palate match, adding integrated medium tannins/acidity and a long finish. I don't see this improving with additional age but it should easily last where it is another several years.

Decanted approx. 2 hours ... Still fresh and bright. Tart cherries predominate; firm tannic backbone. Some spice to add interest. Great value and a crowd pleaser that straddles that big and stylish line at a super reasonable price.

Was hoping for a bit more, but took to a dinner and popped and poured. Been a few weeks now but I remember it being a bit out of balance upon opening. Probably needed decanting. Will do that on the next bottle.

Dark red berry liqueur flavors. Deep and satisfying, especially considering the vintage, but with plenty of structure and acidity. Improved with air and will probably continue improving in the cellar for some years yet.

This has morphed some since prior bottle. This has taken on more of a blue profile with nice balance and finish. This was an absolute perfect pairing with a smoked brisket - that may account for the additional point. Drinking very well and holding.

This seems to have put on a little weight since my first bottle, back in the summer. I decided to decant this time, for no particular reason other than to see how the additional air would affect it. Turns out it benefitted. I enjoyed this the most after 4+ hours of air, at which point it seemed most integrated and approachable. A really nice, non-jammy zin at a great price.

I made a big mistake tonight. I opened this bottle along side some Bedrock single vineyard Zinfandels. It was a very enjoyable wine, but not as rich, deep, or concentrated as the alternatives. I guess Morgan had good reason to declassify....

This is pretty good drinking. CRAZY good at this price ($20). I found the nose a little uninspiring--some muted zin fruit, a bit of earth and slightly hot, but the mouth is beautiful zinberry, sweet (not to be confused with sugary) but with great acid. A bit of cocoa, cola, and vanilla, but not "oaky." Some tannins give this a slightly rough grippiness that livens things up.
Give it a good decant. It actually evolves some over a couple hours. Not sure what the aging potential is here--maybe a couple years? Depends on how soft you like your Zinfandel, I guess. I would drink this in the next year to two.

No formal notes, but from what I remember, mostly dark fruited with some pepper, smoke, and graphite. Very mellow tannins, bordering on nonexistent. Hint of oaky vanillin there as well, which I don't mind. Decent balance with no pokey edges. A nice quaffer, but only that.

Spicy and harmonious. Cranberry and amarena cherry nose, cherry and hibiscus palate. Not a dark monster, still the fruit is suitably brash. There is an elegant mid-palate and finish of spice and roses. 89-90.

Wild berry nose like tangled weeds with berries. Charcoal/graphite. Relatively soft tannins but muted palate. Not as much fruit as I would have expected a little telltale pepper. This is ok but not as zin-y as I would like.

My wife popped and poured one night, then we finished off the next night. Aroma is smoky with black pepper and blackberry. Taste has the black pepper, and there is a bit of lead as well. There is fruit that kind of comes in between, and it is a pretty nice soft blackberry - nothing too heavy. But, the pepper is a bit too much.

Getting better over time as the wine continues to integrate lose some of its rougher edges. Red fruits with a bit of hard candy. Bedrock is always a challenge - at order time, I fear I ordered too much but when I open them I wish I ordered more.

A lot of Zin for the money, but not a simple fruit bomb. This has mouthwatering acidity and a bit of stoniness in the background. A lively wine, yet perhaps this was opened a bit too soon. Wish I had more to let age and integrate a bit. UPDATE: This is so much better on day 2, with the fruit much more sappy and plump, but the structure still provides bones for the flesh.

Really nice showing for this. One of the BEST QPR's out there. A nose of bramble, raspberries, some kirsch and slight floral notes. Great texture. Smooth. Easy to drink. Consumed over three days with Day 2 the best but not much difference. My wife commented on how much she liked it.

Great QPR. This bottle is really developing nicely. At this point, it still needs a good hour or so decant and it could use some more bottle time to let the tannins mellow. I will be holding onto the rest of these bottles for a while and see where they go.

Plum, cherry, spice, and some red meat on the nose. It's medium in weight on the palate, showing a touch of sour cherry syrup, black pepper, herbs, and spicy oak. Finishes dry, with some heat but good persistance. Another winner from Bedrock, and fairly priced.

Same as prior TN's... I love this bottle. It's got more jammy berry goodness than the off the shelf variety (the likes of Seghesio, Carol Shelton Monga Zin/Wild thing, Murphies-Goode, et al.) and also offers more sense of place. There's cracked pepper melange nuance in ever sip. Well done Mr. Peterson. Wish we could ship by the case.

My last bottle of five but happy to see this is still around at retail for a very fair price. Love the way this starts with ripe raspberries and blackberries but quickly transitions to tart, high acid fruit that leaves my mouth refreshed and impatient for another taste.

Enjoyed with my father, who is not a huge wine drinker, but he really liked this wine. Very nice, fun wine to drink. Not huge or overly complex, but enough balance of great taste and a touch of complexity. I am curious like another CT member as to whether this is Morgan's zin style or the great vintage. I'm going to have fun finding out.

I haven't had many of Morgans reds but I am a fan of his rose and whites. I only had a small glass of this but I enjoyed the mix of red and black fruits, the spices, the acidity and the restraint. Not a big overripe and huge zin which is a good thing in my book. The wine is not extremely complex but I was pleased with it overall given the price. Is this a good representation of his style of reds or just a result of the cold 2011 vintage? I'm looking forward to finding out.

I'm pretty harsh on the Bedrock reds as I love them all. This is a simple, but nice version of Zin compared to his others. Brambly black fruits and decent nose (not as big as some of the others). Had with a burger on one of the first warm days in Cincy. Great everyday Zin.

Dark red raspberry color. Smells of flowers, raspberries, strawberries and cherries. Quite fruit forward but light on it's feet. Not a trace of stewed fruit or port. Pinot like freshness. A touch of forest floor An altogether different style of Old Vine Zinfandel. I like it.

Gorgeous in the short term. Rich red and dark fruit melange with spice, vanilla, oak, caramel. A bit fruit forward, but a pleasant drink that's well on the rich side. Moderate length. The fruitiest of the Bedrocks and also the most obvious in oak, but a extroverted wine that's got a bit of depth that would be perfect for BBQ and the like.

Pop / pour. Short notes - beautiful nose of zin fruit with a big hint of minerality. On the palate, all the right materials, but slightly disjointed at this point in its life. Nice acidic balance that presents today as a separate element as opposed to an fully integrated one. Not surprising. I look forward to catching up with this wine again in a couple of years. 90 pts for now, with a nice potential upside with further bottle age. Not quite as immediately approachable as the 2010 version was at the same age. I imagine that a decant would be in order for near term consumption.
Update: much improved on Day 4. Quite rich and integrated. I may have missed the "peak" on this one somewhere Day 2/3, but the 2/3rds of the bottle remaining is really showing well.

This is zinfandel with a lighter touch -- and I like that. Not profound but perfectly enjoyable. Plenty of fruit (blackberry, cassis) and spice but not jammy. The bottle claims an ABV of 14.5% and that sounds about right.

Nose is reminiscent of Ridge. Warm black and red fruit compote nose. A little vanilla bean and brown sugar ad well. Initially I did not think that this was comparable to 2010's version, however over time this has blossomed in the glass. It doesn't have the length nor the density of fruit of previous vintages, and therefore gets overwhelmed by the oak.

This wine is strangely beautiful. It does not smell or taste like Zinfandel in my opinion (and the opinion of the 4 other industry folks who tasted it with me). It is more similar to Cru Beaujolais than CA Zinfandel. That being said, lovely bright red color in the glass. A delicately fruity nose. The fruits are just rich enough and not overly jammy. Spice is present, but subtle. A very fun wine.
Very nice.. i am surprised with how this wine seems so ready to drink at a young age. Good fruits, and pepper on the nose. The Dark fruits are well integrated in the flavor profile with soft tannins. Alcohol, tannins, and fruit are all where they need to be. Drink up, not sure what else time could do for this one.

Fabulous showing. The fruit is ripe and fleshy but the precise acidity and fine tannins keeps this focused and even mouth watering. Layered on the palate with corpulent red fruits, violets and hints of twigs and bark. Coats the palate, yet finishes clean, crisp and long. Wonderful.

Hasn't changed since my last note. The fruit veers close to edge of my ripeness tolerance but is kept in line by a whip of acidity. As others have noted, this is hard to keep around.

It's been over a month since I had a bottle of this. Used restraints, threats, etc. to convince myself not to touch these. So, so hard to do. A very tasty gem for the money. This has great style and finesse for a Cali Zin. We had with pizza on night 1 and finished while watching the Superbowl on night 3. It's good to see this style still has the stuff to develop over a couple of days. Spicy dark fruit on the nose and palate with tarty acidity that made this a good wine with food. It would be nice to watch this one develop over time but mine probably won't last long.

I love this style. Lovely nose full of red berries and florals. Not at all jammy on the palate with bright, focused raspberry and spice flavors. There's a hint of a confectionary note, but it melds nicely with the spice and in no way detracts. Very juicy with mouth-watering acid and young tannins. Still needs to settle down a bit, but very tasty. Definitely looking to restock.

This is the first Bedrock zinfandel I’ve tried, having stocked up in the past on cabs (and blends), syrahs, and whites. The color right out of the bottle is unusually purple (some earlier notes, below, compare the color to a pinot). On the nose, some cherry, other red berries, and oak. The palate pretty much conformed to the nose, with added layers of raspberry, hints of spice and pepper, and a volatile organic flavor that another note below (by RMH66) described as “car seat.” I get that! Not sure what it is, but it was a bit off-putting. Finally, the wine was somewhat viscous, as in glycerin. So, my Day 1 assessment was “a very nice wine that is balanced and restrained, yet disjointed.” I would have scored it 87pts. However, by Day 2, everything changed. So much more integrated. Fruit is more forward, with the off-putting flavors having virtually disappeared. Even the color changed was a deeper red. Very lithe, yet layered and balanced. I suggest holding for a couple of years, otherwise give this a lengthy decant.

Brambly blackberry, pepper, violets, strawberry, earth, herbs, coffee bean, and a little smoke and car seat on the nose. Tart cherry blackberry, earth, strawberry, and a little vanilla on the palate. Juicy acidity and good finish. Pulls together well after a few hours of air. Overall, a very good Zinfandel, tasty, fresh, young, lively, and classy. Look forward to drinking this again in about six months.

Tasty zin with a dominate cranberry note supported by dark berries with a touch of bramble. This one was mellow having not much in the way of spice or pepper, but the fruit and acid were nicely balanced. Another plus was the lack of any heat on its 14.8% abv frame. Offers a good QPR to boot; I’d drink more zin if more of them were like this one.

Clear dark red core that fades to a watery rim. The wine coats the glass, slowly shedding its tears showing this Zinfandels high viscosity. Day bright reflections and medium+ concentration are also visible. The nose is distinctly Zinfandel, with wild raspberry, strawberry and cherry fruit with aromas of chocolate, bramble and hemp that linger on pepper and mineral/flint notes. Medium+ acidity and Medium level tannins provide structure and good mid palate density The palate is bright with juicy raspberry, sour cherry and strawberry flavors that incorporates nice notes of floral-ness, rhubarb, wood, peppercorn and mineralality that follow through to the finish that is moderate in intensity and length. Drink now through 2018. Already good but should come together even more by 2014

Still a bit young, but showing its potential. Inky, with stewed fruit on the nose. Day one the palate was incredibly jammy, but on day two the secondary characteristics start to emerge, showing ripe raspberry & cherry along with herbs. The finish is where this really shines- lengthy with ripe fruit but also intense acid & tannins. Drink now with a decant but I plan on letting my other bottles rest another 6-12 months, should last 5+ years as this shows a bright future but it's hidden by its youth.

Wow! Here we go again...another wonderful release from what has become our absolute favorite producer over the past couple of years. This Zin has all of the hallmarks of what we have come to expect from Morgan's efforts. There's a lovely nose of spice and plenty of red and darker berries. Flavors of those very same berries come to the fore, but all is backed with a beautifully balanced stroke of acidity that suggests this wine can stick around in bottle for quite some time. As others have mentioned, outstanding value!

Consumed over 2 of 3 nights. PnP, then PnV w/30+ min. air-time on 1st day. Deep opaque hue. Primary & fizzy, yet vibrant/lively on PnP & developed nicely after some air time. Nose of fresh picked red berry fruit & plum, pepper spice & menthol, later developing ripe dark berry fruit & mochaccino aromas. Similar fruit-forward profile on palate, w/emerging herbal tones as it sat in glass. Balanced & structured w/youthful tannins, mouth-watering/tangy acidity, medium:full-bodied & a nice lingring finish. Suspect this will age well & improve w/another year or 2 in btl.; or decant for several hrs. if drinking now.

Some great wines over Thanksgiving (Kapcsandy, Saxum, Pott, Huet, Autard); 11/21/2012-11/25/2012: I keep saying that I am not going to drink these up right away, but I keep drinking them. I walk down in the cellar, looking for something tasty that is not real expensive, and there they are. Purple in color. The nose has nice bramble, raspberries, and spice. Popped and poured one night to have a glass, then finished the next night with ribs. Aroma of blackberry and plum. Taste has the blackberry sweetness, but a decent amount of acidity too. Feels like there is a bit something missing, though.

Drank over 3 days. Continued to develop into a different each day. finally hit its stride in the 3rd day and became a beautiful expression of the grape. A very different wine from the first sip. Should develop nicely over next year.

Second bottle of this. Enjoyed this quite a bit better than the first bottle. Seemed less primary and more interesting than last time. Very nicely balanced and not over the top jammy as the 2011s are tending to be. A great QPR.

Pop and pour and served along with the 2011 Heirloom. Good zinfandel character. Lots of backbone. Spice, blackberries and dried orange peel. Fairly rich but not over-powering. Some citrus notes give the wine a bit of lift.

Needs time. Good, but will be better. A little closed.
Day 3 update. The nose is still a little closed down, but the bramble fruit and spice are beginning to emerge. One of the better Old Vine's from Morgan. Another year should make it even better.
Drinkable now with a good long decant.

Popped and poured the day it arrived. My first Bedrock, and I am very impressed. It had a lightness and freshness to it, as opposed to being heavy or raisiny like some zins get. Lots of really nice red fruit witha hint of spice. Very juicy in the mid-palate.

A bit acidic and doesn't have the nice supple mouth feel as the 2010 but excellent fruit on the mid palate. Not much red fruit, primarily dark berry and plum but very solid and balanced. Hopefully it's just the one bottle as the mid palate is definitely 90 pts.

Pretty, pure nose of black raspberries with lift. Fresh, juicy blackberry and plum on the palate accented by clove and cinnamon. A great example of what I love about Bedrock wines, fresh, ripe fruit that's well balanced by acidity and a nice QPR to boot. Drinking really well as pop and pour right now.

Popped and poured. Drinking really well right out of the bottle. Soft and supple; not an over-the-top, jammy zinfandel; restrained & focused. Really started to open up after about 20 minutes in glass. Lovely red berry profile with a little hint of spice, bright and vibrant on the palate. Definitely one of the least concentrated wines I've had from Morgan and although a little simple, this is an excellent QPR.

Pop and into the decanter with a glass for me. Delicious right out of the gates. Lovely spicey nose with bramble, and great red fruit. Love the color on this wine almost like a pinot. Great juicy palate and spice in the mouth. Love the QPR here.

A lighter zin than some of the classic, fruit forward spicy zins but still a balanced wine with fully integrated tannis and easily drinkable. Decanted for about an hour, but wine continued to evolve while drinking over the additional hour. Very nice wine.

Great QPR. This bottle is really developing nicely. At this point, it still needs a good hour or so decant and it could use some more bottle time to let the tannins mellow. I will be holding onto the rest of these bottles for a while and see where they go.

Decanted for 45 minutes. Begins with crisp red raspberry that is a little sharp at the edges. With air this picks up black fruit and smooths out considerably.

Medium+ acidity and Medium level tannins provide structure and good mid palate density
The palate is bright with juicy raspberry, sour cherry and strawberry flavors that incorporates nice notes of floral-ness, rhubarb, wood, peppercorn and mineralality that follow through to the finish that is moderate in intensity and length.

Nose of fresh picked red berry fruit & plum, pepper spice & menthol, later developing ripe dark berry fruit & mochaccino aromas. Similar fruit-forward profile on palate, w/emerging herbal tones as it sat in glass. Balanced & structured w/youthful tannins, mouth-watering/tangy acidity, medium:full-bodied & a nice lingring finish. Powerful whirlwind of tart black fruits and mulling spices. A lot of fun to drink, but I understand Morgan's advice to age it a bit.

On the palate, this is lush, somewhat candied and drinks quite easily. A bit of alcohol shows but withing reason. A popular crowd pleaser.

Popped and poured. Would not have pegged this as zin if tasted blind. Weight and color more typical of a pinot. Almost elegant. Red and black fruits, with nice acidity.

Popped and poured. Still very primary at this point. Thought it was more accessable than the 2010 shortly after release. Lots of up front fruit with the structure to back it. Needs some time to sort itself out though. Great QPR. Glad I backed up the truck on this.

One hour decant. For such a young wine, it is showing quite well. Wonderful fruit, controlled tannins. So far, so good. A nice QPR to boot.
