3rd of 6. I think there is tons of time left on this. I was a bit less impressed today, perhaps due to bottle variation, or maybe this is shut down a bit. This presented as a bit too tart and bright - somewhat out of balance in that respect (high acidity). There are nice fine tannins remaining and loads of sappy fruit. The finish is fairly long. 92+.

Decanted an hour. Translucent red, long legs, sweet fragrance on the 👃 balanced with dried prunes, persimmon, new bovine belt, graphite, pan fried chopped mushrooms (Duxelles?) . Dry, medium body structure, highly acidic, medium tannins with refreshing nectarine / persimmon mix finish. What an amazing fragrance! Stick-your-nose-into-glass type of wine.

Decanted ~2 hours. dark red, long legs, sweet fragrance balanced with ripe persimmon, fresh bovine leather belt, graphite, watermelon, long legs. Dry, medium to full body structure, highly acidic, high tannins with refreshing nectarine / persimmon mix finish. Amazing to drink by itself.

Young and not showing much right now. Will not touch another bottle for at least a few more years. Muted strawberries, faint minerality but it took coaxing. Wait.

3-hour decant. Approachable out of the bottle, but added flavor and more subtlety with air. Lighter edge than expected, but very deep fruit. Mid-weight tannins underneath; not prominent given the fruit. Relatively lighter for this wine.

Jordan Intro-Retro (Zoom / Chicago): Double blind. Aromas of earthen black cherry with moderate toasty herb and what I mistakenly thought was stem (rather likely slightly under-ripe fruit). The palate has nice roundness of fruit that I noted sweet and plush, which is impressive for a 2011. Nice spice filled finish. Drinking impressively well right now. My #4, Group #5.

Onklers Corton Grand Cru Smaking (Bodø): Clos des Cortons Faiveley is actually a clos the within vineyard Le Rognet only for Faiveley to use. Unfortunately this was another 2011 which is not exactly my favourite vintage as it turns out. Though with good flavour and aroma intensity this one has that dusty green cocked pepper character that overshadow to much of its true potential.

This bottle had been open for two hours, nose of red fruit, sweet and sour fruit, same on the palate, medium amount of harsh tannins suggests it needs 5 years to peak, tannins mask the lovely fruit, medium/long finish, pleasant aftertaste.

Faiveley tasting (Hermitage Wine Bar): Dark-red. Reticent nose at first, but opened up to reveal some flowery notes. Of note is the nose seems to have this "airy", classy feel... Of the 4 red wines this evening, this had the most presence, body and weight on the palate. Comes with a bit of spice too. Similar to the Charmes, this also seemed to have that bitterish note towards end of palate. That aside, fine tannins and good length.

Domaine Faiveley continues to deliver ...: This is an outstanding Corton, I'm tempted to say better than the excellent 2012 Clos des Cortons I tasted three weeks ago. It is certainly more forward and approachable than the '12. The '11 probably benefited from the 18 hours airtime, and I would seriously decant this wine if tempted to open it young. Bright ruby colour. A lovely Corton nose of spice, warm earth, red plums and red roses, with some chalky and graphite minerals in the background. A lovely Corton nose. On palate, a big wine with real matière, serious dry extract and power, but surprisingly, as of now, open textured. The flavours are spicy red plums, red currants, warm earth, red liquorice and some of that Corton iron and chalk on the long finish. On the back palate, you are reminded of the large scaled (but fine gained) tannins and all of the power held in check. Presumably this wine will shut down and need 20 years cellar time (or you could drink it now!)
Domaine Faiveley Tutored Tasting (Peach Garden OCBC Centre): Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of perfume and flowers, toasted oak, red cherry fruit, spices, and a stony chalky minerality. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, firm medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of toasted oak, red cherry fruit, spices, and a stony chalky minerality. Long finish. Very good quality. Surprisingly open now, it should go to sleep in the next few years. Re-explore in 10 years' time when it is mature.

A very firm and big wine. Tannins, acidity and structure was huge. Wine still very primary and fruity with some earthiness. Will be very good in the future.

Trialto Old World Classics Tasting: Another complex nose full of brown and exotic spices. Perhaps a little less giving than the 2010 Clos de Vougeot and showing the tough nature of Corton, but the potential is obviously there. Tons of red licorice and some salene notes on the nose. Palate is firm and dryingly tannic. Muscular. 93 today, however it should improve.

If you seen my other TNs, it almost goes without saying that I'm going to compare this with Bass Phillip. Compared with the rest of the Faiveleys I tasted, this is spicier, sappier and more dark fruited. It's not heavy at all, though. And even has a juiciness due to its bright acidity. It has great length and complexity. Great.

The 2011 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons is punchy, vibrant and floral on the nose. There’s a scent of roses and violets coupled with cherry fruit, minerals and earth. It is detailed and crunchy in the mouth full of bright and crisp red and black fruits. It has not the intensity of the 09 or 10 versions but is beautifully poised and a lovely drink in its own right.

Wow. A muscular wine for sure. Loaded with flavors of plum sauce, fresh herbs, barnyard, wet earth and sweet spices. Reminds me of Peking duck. A very big wine that shows on the palate but is very reserved on the nose.

Wildman New Release Burgundy Tasting (Trump International Hotel - Chicago IL): Tasting. Red cherry and boysenberry aromas, slightly floral and surprisingly charming for such a young Corton. Slightly more black fruit driven on palate, firm and more classically Corton. Very long and balanced, this is another successful vintage for Corton des Corton. 92-93 point potential for me tonight.

Chicago Wine Flock...Burgundy Double Blind from JW (Chicagoland IL): In Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley 2010-2012 vertical. Bigger today than the 2010, but less complexity or nuance. Very friendly already, just entering its drinking window.
