Great Clos Ste Hune for me. At this age, the oily richness that only comes with time was showing in full force, balanced wonderfully by great acidity and deep petrol. I've had issues with some previous bottles of CSH being more advanced than they should be but no issues here today. Very happy to spot this and open, and seems to me to be in a great spot right now. Can keep, but wouldn't hesitate to open again!

Opened at Caprice in HK for the Jean Trimbach x Egon Muller Celebration Dinner by the winemakers themselves. Slow-oxed since 3pm and poured at around 9:30.
This wasn't quite on the same level as the 2016 served next to it - unfortunately more forward than we had hoped and slightly oxidative. This seems to be a recurring issue with some of the other Clos Ste Hunes that I've had.
That being said, there's still great juice here. Perhaps just not quite the best example of what this wine can be tonight.

Xmas 2022; 12/20/2022-12/27/2022 (Matt and Marta’s): Pulled the cork a couple of hours before serving. Light in colour and no signs of early aging. Quite a full and round version, ripe orchard fruits of peach and nectarine, the acidity is there, but less pronounced than other crisper vintages, a really long finish. A very good wine but a slightly atypical vintage of CSH

No notes taken. This showed fairly closed at first and only with time and a lot of swirling more aromas came forward. This is a dense Riesling with a lot of flesh on the bone but it didn‘t show very complex or precise. Maybe with an additional 10 years in the cellar, this might change. The impeccable structure witha a high and round acidity should certainly allow for extended ageing. 90/91 pts.

Early dinner gathering (Blacksalt, Washington DC): Still showing pale color which is not surprising. Beautifully mature nose displaying concentrated white and yellow fruit, lemon curd, lemon oil, pear, strong petrol, lanoline, honeysuckle, smoke, white pepper and limestone. Excellent concentration, finely layered concentrated rich white fruit, generous and oily yet but also good focus and energy, medium acidity, strong mineral and a long concentrated white fruit driven finish with lanoline and limestone at the end. As usual, despite the rich concentrated fruit, the finish is unbelievably dry. The style of Clos St Hune is always unique. I find some similarity with Cotat Sanceres. Really enjoyable.

Tasted blind. White peach, stone fruit and a splash of citrus juice, a bit of wax or petrol. A fine layer of smoke permeates the bouquet. Starting off a bit muted, this did open up beautifully with some aeration, releasing more bee wax aromas. Invigoratingly crisp with great tension leading into a long and fresh finish. Full bodied and powerful. I would say this is an expertly crafted, complex and versatile Riesling. However, I still struggle with the Alsace style of Riesling and find they offer only limited pleasure.

Sampled at Oinoscent, courtesy of a customer. The nose shows medium intensity, very smokey, flinty, the fruit lies in the back, citrus, lime, grapefruit, a few rubbery notes. In the palate, the wine shows strength, high acidity, petrol, flint, medium to full body. Since it's my first time trying this wine, I don't really know what to expect here, but the wine seems bloody awsome to me. Some said tired, some young, it was so weird. I'm definately on the fresh side, maybe it needs more time to open up. The bottle was open almost 2hr before I tasted it. For me it is almost green, it tastes younger than it smells, ends with a very long finish. After 4hr, you get a few honey notes. citrus amd apricot jam, beeswax but still around a very dense lime core. Outstanding quality. Damn!!!!

Bought from Jean at Trimbach, so no storage issues! Tiny bit disappointing in the context of what a bottle of CSH can be. Totally fine dry riesling, but I've had at least a dozen CFEs that I've enjoyed more. I think the biggest let down is probably the lack of precision. I expect a wine like this to be etched on my palate. This...more of a number 2 pencil.

Very rich body, lighter oily texture that you get from beautifully aged riesling, bright acidity that accompanied by high pitch minerality. A very beautiful enjoyable wine right now albeit I think the drinking window may be narrower than others indicated here. My bottle was a tiny little more advanced than I expected. This is my first bottle of the pack.

Mid gold. Deep flinty minerality, ripe lemon, guava, apricot, hint of exotic fruits, a bit of developing notes like caramel, petrol, dried fruits and honey. Bone try, a bit oily, really intense and deep. Still young. So refreshing acidic. 94+

Nose of wet stones, petrol, white flowers, and hint of peaches. Palate is well-structured with piercing acidity and a long finish. Medium bodied. Stunning minerality. Dry. Surprising ABV of 14% as it doesn’t come through very much on the palate. This wine has a ways to go yet and should last another 5-10 years easily. In my opinion, Clos Ste Hune is simply one of the finest expresssions of dry Riesling in the world. I have yet to be disappointed. Bravo!
New Years Eve with family at home - limited notes. Plenty of diesel here, but the exotic pineapple led fruit with meadow flower/herb and chalky minerality soon fought its way to the fore. Citrus nuances. Bone dry finish. Superb if not as taut as I perhaps expected (forward?). Based on this bottle I reckon this is a 15yr rather than a 25yr CStH. Now - 2024.

14% alcohol. Tasted blind in a tasting of fifteen dry 2009 Rieslings.
Intense yellow-green color. Ripe nose with aromas of sweet white fruits, some red apple, a little bit of developed waxy character, light developed notes of petrol, a hint of wizened stone fruits and a sweet touch of gummi bear candies. The wine is ripe, clean and very intense on the palate with very precise flavors of tangy salinity and lean, stony minerality, juicy Granny Smith apple, some waxy tones, a little bit of sweet white fruits, light crunchy notes of quince, a developed hint of wizened stone fruits and a touch of pithy grapefruit bitterness. The high acidity makes the wine feel quite tightly-knit, but also very balanced. The finish is ripe, less mouth-puckering and slightly rounder with ripe flavors of sweeter yellow fruits, some stony minerality, a little bit of pithy citrus fruits, light spicy notes of wildhoney, a hint of white peach and a touch of beeswax. There is a slightest hint of warmth in the aftertaste.
A balanced, juicy and fruity Riesling with some obvious ripeness but enough acidity to keep the wine not only balanced, but also impressively structured. I was very surprised to learn afterwards that this wine was Clos Ste. Hune, since it felt fruitier and more accessible compared to my previous taste some 5 years ago (I guess age had done its work), but also slightly anonymous as well in style. The wine was great by any standards, and still remarkably youthful with quite a bit of further aging potential, but nowhere near as spectacular as the last time. This was just a well-made and balanced Riesling with lots of upside to it, but nothing too special. Scored a total of 7 points, making the wine finish in the 10th place.

Delectable aromas of wet chalk, mirabelle plum, white peach, crushed stones and white flowers, with hints of honey and beeswax. The palate echoes the nose with wet chalk, white peach, mirabelle plum, cut grass, fresh grape, lemon and honey. In summary: yum, yum, yummity-yum-yum. I loved this, my husband not so much (bearing in mind that I am a riesling-lover, whereas he is far more partial to gewurztraminer when it comes to Alsatian wines). All that being said, as much as I enjoyed this bottle in its current state, I can't help but think it will be even better with more age on it. To be determined.

Clos Ste Hune vertical 83-09 with Anne Trimbach. Historic vineyard of only 1,67 ha in the village of Hunawihr in central Alsace. Limestone soil, cool southeast position with morning sun.
"WARM", sunny summer, warm but not to warm, cold and windy evenings saved the vintage. Not ready yet but getting there.

Rouget Echezeaux Dinner (Christopher's - Phoenix AZ): Small glass, brief note. Lots of petrol notes with rich floral start and hints of almond butter and marzipan that implied a sense of sweetness that wasn't there. Rich and opulent palate, particularly to start, then more backward and firm middle to finish. I'd think this will keep improving over the next decade.

Christmas Dinner Søllerød 2016 (Søllerød Kro): Probably the most accesible version of this normally rather strict cuvee, that I have ever tasted, it is vintage-assisted in the sense. It displays some richesse, tremendous concentration (as usual) and a very good acidity, citrus galore and minerality (as usual). This will go a long way, but can be drunk now, if you pair it with food, and it is sustainable, when it comes to that

Excellent concentration, fresh white fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity, incredible amount of mineral, very focused and energetic, lovely long cool finish. Terroir revolution at Trimbach - and the just released Clos Ste Hune 2008 (Maison Trimbach): The wine is made from vines located at the center of the Rosacker Grand Cru vineyard, which ranks among Alsace's best. Until now, Domaine Trimbach does not label its Clos Sainte Hune wine with the Alsace Grand Cru title to which it is entitled. Could that change? Whatever the case may be, this solar vintage is very well handled here. A lovely pine needle aspect, with fresh meadows, lends freshness. It is very sumptuous on the palate but I could not sense the ... 14% alcohol. Yes, a minty aspect and fellow taster Luiz Alberto remarked a sweet herb, like caraway seed (grains de carvi), but not as strong as aniseed. The four grams of residual sugar were balanced by 7.5 grams of acidity. Truly lovely stuff, especially considering that the wine had been opened two days before, Anne Trimbach said. Trois fois bravo!

Tasted at the winery. Very mineral. Flavors are still melding. This wine is still too young to show well. The Cuvée Frédéric-Émile from the same year was showing just as well at a fraction of the cost. Not impressed with all the critics loving this wine at this pricepoint (€133), but maybe it just needs time.

Very intense yellow-green color. Somewhat shy, sharp and angular nose with understated aromas of ripe citrus fruits, steely minerality, subtle hints of spice and the first emerging signs of petrol. The wine is ridiculously intense, structured and focused on the palate with medium body, laser-like precision and very concentrated, bone-dry flavors of steely minerality, ripe red apples, some apple peel bitterness, a little bit of pithy grapefruits, a hint of sweet white fruits and a spicy touch of wet stones and earth. Overall the wine comes across as extremely tightly-wound and completely unfit to drink. The searing acidity and cold, unyielding mineral surface really don't let much flavors through. The finish is ridiculously long and complex, but most of all mouth-puckeringly acid-driven and almost painfully mineral with layered flavors of steely minerality, spicy and somewhat bitter buckwheat honey, exotic spices, pithy lemon, some apple peel bitterness, a little bit of honey and a touch of beeswax.
I've gotten used to that Alsatian 2009 Rieslings are soft, fruit-forward and rich wines, so I was expecting this wine to be somewhat approachable and enjoyable already - but nope. BIG NOPE. This is as austere, unyielding and ridiculously acid-driven as any Clos Ste. Hune and there is no signs of 2009 ripeness to be seen. Perhaps that ripeness starts to with some age, but I have no idea how long it will take. Comparing this wine to a high-strung violin string would be an understatement - if this wine was a violin string, the violin's neck would just snap in two. This wine is 100% cellaring potential and 0% instant enjoyability. A stunning wine, but ridiculously backward - needs a few decades of cellaring first.

On the nose: Typical petrol nose with honey, almond wet cardboard.
On the palate: More bitter palate with hint of almond, mineral and soil.
Medium + finish

Clearly a special wine. The nose here is gorgeous with precisely detailed fruit and mineral flavors. On the palate is young and closed in on itself now. Imagine this will mature into a special wine with time.

All petrol on the nose; deep and heady. Ripe stone fruits and mineral notes. Showing very well for a young CsH.

Stunning aromas, floral and spicy with candied lemon and dried stone fruit. Hints of the same on palate, but shy, reserved and backward with great density. I'd consider this to have 93-95 point potential but requiring another decade+ in the cellar. Very intriguing.

A huge Riesling. Still very young but showing lovely complexity even at this stage.

Granny Smith Apple, massive petrol nose and flavor that's undeniable, some lemon and stone fruit and minerals. Again I don't get these wines, it's really not enjoyable to my palate.

Marks duckhouse – La Las, 02 HB, 01 Pavie, CSH, Leflaive, QdC and etc. (Marks duckhouse, Falls Church, Va): Expressive energetic nose displaying white fruits, lemon candy, pear, apple, smoke, lanoline, white pepper, mint and limestone. Excellent concentration, fresh white fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity, incredible amount of mineral, very focused and energetic, lovely long cool finish. Drinking wonderfully in very youthful energetic mineral driven way. Finishes deceptively dry. The similar vibrant fruit expression as the 07 but showing more concentration. I will definitely try to savor a bottle at home over a couple nights.

Très très beau riesling. Hydrocarbures du riesling sont présents tout en souplesses, minéralité unique qui se marie bien avec la poire et une petite touche citronnée. Longue et tendre acidité qui promet pour boire ce millésime dans le futur.
4/5 (5/5 probablement d'ici 10 ans)

Dinner at Trelio (Clovis Ca.): Bested again by the 04 FE.....this shows the riper vintage here...not as chiseled with rocks as it should...but the fruit is pure, with subtle smoke and chalk, fresh lemon, grapefruit acidity...pretty coiled...will need some years. +pts

Excellent nose with petroleum, stones & minerals, stone fruits, lemons & apples.
Palate is equally fine, if in the really early drinking window right now, with clean & concentrated fruit, lemons and stone fruits, minerals and fresh tingly acidity.
Long finish, and great potential.
Very fine for the vintage.

On the nose not too much fruit at this stage, notes of herbal tea, crushed stones, hints of ripe stone fruit, red apples. On the palate very powerful and intense. Lots of minerality, great acidity and great fruit. Notes of lemon zest, grapefruit. Wonderful finish - very long and lingering. Needs time. 94-95+

Even more youthful and backward than 2009 Cuvée Frédéric Emile. Great depth, but rather closed. intense on the palate, powerful, closed, very mineral and long. Needs time. 93-95+?
