  • 50th Birthday Bash - night #2: Tasted next to the Vogue C-M '14. They were both lovely. I cannot honestly say that the Rousseau was any more enjoyable than the Vogue. While both were great, I resisted allowing label bias from the Rousseau to bias my palate. Bottom line... both were young and need more time in the cellar.

  • Rousseau Charmes-Chambertin 2012
    Ingen skarpe kanter.
Kun et fast bitt i finish.
    De fineste tanniner.
Super flaske, og skyhøy drikkeglede. 94p

  • Tasted double blind. This wine is in incredibly good early form. The level of complexity, the ever-changing aromas are to die for. A friend described it poetically as going to the theater and being entertained on the highest level with constantly changing scenes, twist and turns and surprises around every corner. Superb and easily the best red of the night.

TN: Superb bouquet: dark berries, tobacco, mushrooms, seemed older at first. The with time more and more sweet red berries, fresher, rounder and purer. Same as on the palate. The wine kept giving new aromas with ever sip and sniff. A rainbow of berries in all colors and shapes, some cola, some minty notes, some spices in addition to the strong minerality, tobacco, soil, and animalistic notes. The purity of the fruit was remarkable and with time there was this intriguing fresh red berry core which took over. Very elegant structure and feel with ultra fine tannins, superb acidity, a satin-like, weightless texture all culminating in a medium+ length finish. The balance was just superb and the best of all Burgs we had.

Decanting: No extensive decanting necessary, was good from the go.

Bra, men her forventet jeg mer. 90p

  • A nice burgundy but not what one would expect given the reputation of the producer.

  • Har noe utvikling. Flott nese. Oser jordbærfrukt. Delikat men intens i munn.

  • Raveneau Grand Cru with Maxime Raveneau (110 Taillevent London): I really like Rousseau Charmes 12, it's better than the 10 and miles better than the weak 11. Very open on pnp, lovely earth, sous bois, wild strawberry and cherry fruit. Not a massive wine but a real "Charme(s)"r. Drink now and over the next two decades. 94+

  • Initially quite a bit of oak present. Dark fruit profile, sweet cherry, even a red plum note. Earth and forest floor evident throughout.
With 3 hours of air, poof and the wine opens up to a bright red fruit profile, with cherry, raspberry, mixed with earth. Was a little concerned when first opened, but turned out great.

  • Lovely nose with red berries, blueberries, lavendar spice, and earth. Airy fruit with layers of that red and blue fruit. Would have never guessed 2012 given the lighter bodied wine (I tend to think 2012 is more thick). Soft textures with fine gentle tannin. Would be happy to try this again. 94-95.

  • Beautiful aromatics with pure fruit, spice and light herbs. Weightless and precise that make it so easy to like. Love the silky texture on the palate. Excellent. 93-94

  • Decanted for an hour and then followed for another hour. This was the early drinking pleasure we had hoped for. A lot going on here on the beautiful nose - some baking spice, cinnamon, very ethereal, elegant, multi-faceted. Charmes Chambertin is not a very intensive wine and many people seem to brush this wine aside as "light" but for me it's a beautiful wine still that has this Burgundian elegance I seek out. This is a great wine that can be drunk today and over the next 2-3 decades. 94-95.

  • Aromatic nose of red berry, Gevrey earth, and spice. Little sense of weight to the concentrated and pure red fruited flavors that coat the mouth and then linger on the persistent finish. Silky, acid-driven structure. Rousseau's 2012 Charmes-Chambertin is excellent and, given the ample fruit and soft texture, is drinking well today with little risk of shutting down. (60% Mazoyères, 40% Charmes.)

  • The 2012 Armand Rousseau Charmes Chambertin is considerably richer and more aromatic than the 2011 and 2008 tasted recently. Tasted blind – Gorgeous nose of layered dark fruits, deeply laced spices and dark berries, polished nose of delicate sweet stems and oak spices, really detailed and refined. Some whole cluster, smokey gravel, 1er Cru intensity with good acidity. Vosne Romanee 1er Cru? (once again I mistaken Rousseau for Vosne Romanee). 2012? (90/100)

  • Truffles and a couple of bottles: Cherry and kirsch, blackcurrant and blueberry on the nose. Medium depth and fruit weight on the palate, nice pure flavours. Composed and confident. Will show more with time.

  • Fragrant with red fruits and red flowers. The palate is precise, layered and seamless. The mouth perfume persists for ages. Lovely stuff.

  • Typical ripe and concentrated nose and palate of the 12, expressive youthful nose displaying sweet red and black fruits, some earthy spice, pepper, a hint of lowers and mushroom. Excellent concentration, forward fruits, nicely layered fruits, mineral, good acidity, sweet tannins and long clean finish. It lacks the beguiling airy texture of Rousseau’s Chambertin, CDB, Ruchottes and CSJ. It is however a solid wine with excellent concentration that will age well for the next two decades. I believe this will be always enjoyable without terribly shutting down due to ample fruits.

  • A little leathery on the nose. Tannins provide an elegant texture, good volume and quite austere on the palate.

  • Musique & Vin Wine Tasting (Château du Clos de Vougeot): Tasting, brief note. Forward fruit incredibly easy to enjoy right now. Ok spice and better textures. Good now, better yet in 2020.

  • Day Three in Burgundy: Rousseau, Marchand, Dugat, Jadot (Cote d'Or): Barrel tasting at domaine. 60% Mazoyeres, 40% Charmes proper. Also clearly needing to be racked. Red and black fruit with braised meat spice. More textured and nuanced vs powerful for Grand Cru from Gevrey. Lots of charm today.

First note: this note might not accurately represent the final assemblage because of varied new oak usage across barrels. Second note: this cuvee now includes the Charmes-Chambertin from Chateau de Gevrey-Chambertin in the cuvee starting this vintage.
