Every few years I check in with a local (California) wine, usually to my disappointment. Not so here! I hate to say it, but this is very nice juice. Yes, it is fruit forward, somewhat jammy, and redolent with new oak but there is no denying the hedonistic pleasure factor here. Who doesn't love chocolate and vanilla?! This is clearly made from very nice fruit and done so with care. While not exactly my style, with a brisket I've been smoking all day I think this will be fire.
With time, this does get sweeter and sweeter and is verging on cloying.

Four years after the prior: On opening, and for the first night, this was a monolithic brute. 14.8, and unfortunately, it shows. On the second and third nights, we paired it with barbecue — it became tolerable, and a few sips were even enjoyable when it showed at least a bit of dusty character. But this type of monster wine, with no trace of elegance, is no longer a style that pleases us.

Boy is this in a good place right now. Beautiful nose with a touch of Brett that quickly blew off followed by eucalyptus, menthol cigarettes, clay loam, leather, hay, pie crust and sweet vanilla. Great silky buttery mouthfeel to this wine, some dustiness that tell of place and then a sweet lift of strawberry vanilla cream pie 2/3 of the way through. Don’t take a sip, gargle a big mouthful and you’ll thank me. Medium bodied, not a huge wine, perhaps a touch hollow at 40% through but then lifts gorgeously and the finish brings in sweet integrated tannins that dry out just enough for a finish that will make you giggle like a school girl. We had this double blind and were so happy to see what it was and that it only cost $50.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 3 hours. Starts off with nice wood spices, cedar box, cassis, blackberry, pencil, fresh cut tobacco, scorched earth and a touch of green pepper and ash. The palate is full bodied and brings cassis, black raspberry, scorched earth, lots of minerality, tobacco, balsamic notes, with more tannins that are a little grainy. Drinking well, may improve a bit more.

Double decant 1 Hr. Some chunky sediment. 76% Cab., 12% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc, 6% Petite Verdot, 1% Malbec. Black to reddish purple. Re-bottled at 1 hr. because it was so jammy and fresh when decanted, wanted to see it evolve. Began with red raspberry compote on nose and in the mouth. Long finish. Evolved to include cherry, cassis and finally plum. Long, rich and complex. This has a long life yet. Definitely decant for sediment and allow 3-4 hours for this to unfold.

This is a perfect example of how a Napa Cab blend should be done and how it should age. At 9 years old this wine had nice dark berry fruit, a nice nose, balanced acid/alcohol, and mellowing but still there tannins. Looking forward to the next one.

I bought a case of this about 4 years ago; I think that this is bottle 8. While I bought with the thought that this wouldn't be a long-term ager, it has steadily improved over the past 4 years, and the still robust tannins indicate that it could even get better (on the other hand, the low acidity may argue otherwise). Nice nose with dark fruit and a hint of violets, opaque color with nice legs. Rich, ripe berries on the front palate, followed by hints of coffee, earth and graphite, with the still strong tannins on the end. The wine has gone from pleasant but a bit monolithic to well-rounded, moderately long and complex. At somewhere in the low $30s/btl, this was really good QPR.

Very dark/purple red color. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 90 minutes. It's been over 3 years since last having this and the time has served it very well. This has a nice dark berry fruit profile, cassis, dark berry, huckleberry and intertwined spice and graphite. The tannins are quite plush and the palate has a nice velvety texture. Everything has come together now and these are very good. If you can find a better Bordeaux style blend in Napa at a better price than this, let me know. 91+ to 92pts.

Double decant 2 Hrs. Some chunky sediment. 76% Cab., 12% Merlot, 5% Cab Franc, 6% Petite Verdot, 1% Malbec. Solid red to edge. Begins with dusky plum, cherry, currants, becoming perfumed after 1-1/2 hrs. Cherry, black currant, some Rutherford dust. Long, rich finish. Classic BV, one of the best of the Tapestries I've had. This has a long life ahead.

Checking in 20 months after our most recent note, and I agree with others that this is coming around. Or at least it's not quite as monolithic as it was for us before. Earth, coffee, a touch of dust. Not a whole lot of development over three nights -- but nor did it substantially degrade. We will check the next in a year or so.

It has finally come around. Medium plus weight, decanted and showed very smooth black fruit notes with mild fresh acidity in the mid palate with some vegetal notes and soft tannin on the finish. Now quite balanced and drinking well.

This is an interesting label in that Beaulieu's Tapestry is always a good quality offering while really showing the variation driven by vintage. The 2010 is no exception. While I have referred to the 2008 as the most fruit forward Tapestry IMO, the 2010 can be described as brooding. Medium garnet color. A bit of an earthy nose. Full bodied with opening notes of coffee, cola and cedar on the palate. Dark cherry flavors emerge on a long lingering finish. This is in an exceptional place right now. I have one bottle left and wish I had more.

Similar to previous notes. Medium to full body, with some black fruits that need air time to open up. May need a bit more time to develop a better balance among the various fruit types.

Decanted for about an hour. Nose is dark cherry, caramel, and raisin. Full bodied, slightly chewy, with a nice balance of fruit and Rutherford dust. Finish is long, earthy. More fruit forward than a Bordeaux, but overall very nice. Enjoyed with a charcuterie board; paired well with duck, aged cheddar and strawberries.

Decanted for an hour and still has some heat coming off it. I think it has a couple more years to peak. Bramble is a good description - I get some green vegetal notes right off. Certainly Bordeaux in style, not excessively fruit driven. Great with tenderloin but no surprise there. Tannins hold up well. Could easily have had another bottle!

Our 2010 Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry displays the art of blending varietals and vineyard locations to create a wine that combines layer upon layer of flavors and excellent depth with graceful tannin structure. Deep, briary blackberry and cassis character comes from the wine’s core of Cabernet Sauvignon. Black-cherry notes and a plush midpalate texture reveal a generous blending of Merlot, while Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec add violet, forest loam and graphite notes, as well as deep saturated color and rich texture. licorice, forest loam and graphite nuances, as well as deep hues and texture. Tapestry elegantly demonstrates the art of blending varietals to create a wine that combines multilayered flavors with supple, graceful tannin structure.

Mid to full body. Rich, dry, black fruits with licorice. Some acidity and drying tannins on the finish. Has some Rutherford cab characteristics. Drinking well now but can improve further with another year or two for it to peak and improve the balance with the various grape types. Day 2 the wine balance was better with more lush mouth feel but still solid cab mix structure and nice spice and tannins on the finish. 90+. I have had the 06, 07, 09, 10 and 12. They all seem to get better with age. The 09 was the biggest surprise of how well it drank in 2015 vs when it was released. the briarly and rough tannins (which some like) smoothened out to drink really well with excellent balance of dark fruits. The 2006 started out so so but also developed a great balance and silky finish by 2012. The 2012 is not yet ready. a bit one sided on the fruit, so needs a couple more years. The 2007 was good from the start.

No detailed notes, but popped and poured. Very pleasant, solid tannins, red fruits and earthy on the palate. Medium to full bodied, with legs to cellar another 3-5 years. Retail priced in the mid to upper $40s, it's pushing the QVR a little, but a dependable wine for a nice meal.

Vertical lineup with the 2011 & 2012. This one had the best nose! Lovely dank. Smooth palate, dark fruits, and a hint of blueberry that peeks out at the end of the finish. Strong tannins though, so it's no fruit bomb in any sense.

Year after year, the consistency of the BV Tapestry is uncanny. Smooth, easy drinking with round, silky mouthfeel. Red berry and licorice predominate. Some black tea, menthol and sage. Syrupy finish that demands another taste.

Drinking perfectly now. Full bodied with a satin-like texture. The cab dominates, as it should, composing 72% of the blend (along with 19% merlot and 3% each of cab franc, petit verdot and malbec). An earlier comment indicated a 'sweetness' due to a strong presence of zin. Maybe it's the merlot and that little bit of malbec that caused that. Yes, it may seem a bit on the 'sweet' side by some, but to this consumer it seemed perfectly balanced and the 'sweetness' - well that's is all the wonderful, balanced fruit perhaps. There is a very dark ink-like color and the legs are slow. Light sediment in the bottle. It tastes a bit floral, black cherry with a bit of burnt toast on the back of the palate. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Very dark ruby. Decent balance. Big & deep; not at all elegant; but with some nice spicy character. Quite enjoyable over four nights -- for what it is. (Which is, less and less, what we are looking for; but every once in a while a wine like this is welcome.)

Enjoyed this wine; balanced with nice flavor, 3 people shared the bottle,I am not a big cab fan but this wine drank easily, not a wine to age much more, drank with steak, received as a gift and probably won't drink again, a bit overpriced.

No notes, but this was definitely a pleasant surprise: ripe, rich and balanced, and bigger and more powerful. than I expected. Sweet, dark fruits with good depth along with hints of earth, spice and oak. Medium to full bodied with a smooth texture and a slightly firm structure. Was a great partner with a steak. I have had several vintages of this wine and generally found them lacking in depth and structure. This bottle was a nice exception.

A Wild Wednesday (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red/purple color. Decanted for about an hour; drank 1 glass over an hour. Not much has changed since i last had this a few months ago. The framework is there, it just needs more time. Plenty of black fruit, blackberry and cassis, with pepper and spice on the palate, slightly green.

Brought this to a dinner at Paul Martin's and enjoyed with a friend. It was good at first drink but continued to open up thru the night as we drank over 2 hours. Dark burgundy, fruit forward and nicely smooth as you would want from a blend. Complimented the fish we ate even though it would have been good with a meat meal.

Midnight purple appearance. Black fruit, cassis, plums, tar, and wintergreen aromas. Big, bold, and upfront, the sweet, black currant flavors segue into an oaky back end and a chewy finish. I'd give this time.

Very dark red/purple color. PNP, off the list, drank 2+ glasses over 3 hours . Took about 20 minutes to reveal itself, but it gradually came around. Nice oak on the nose, lovely damp forest floor, cassis, blue fruit, spice, and graphite. The palate is near full bodied, with sweet cassis, dark red fruit, lightly herbal, pipe tobacco and graphite. Would have benefited from a decant had it been feasible. Can drink now, but I'd give this another 2 years optimally.

Purslane's review is accurate, spot-on for our bottle. Odd cabernet that tastes strongly of chocolate milk, even after a decant. Low acid limits aging potential. It does have a nice perfumy component in the finish, but it has no (NO!... zero) minerality or terroir.
Ironically, this is supposed to be a "Bordeaux"-style wine, but it's about as far from a Bordeaux as it is possible to be. Overpriced at $30.00.

The BV Tapestry Reserve for decades has been one of the best examples of how California can make fruity, delicious, and very broadly appealing wines with high quality. The Tapestry commonly gets rated as the top wine when put in blind tastings. The 2010 Tapestry, however, is a shocking break in that tradition. We had the 2010 completely blind in a tasting that paired 6 Bordeaux wines against 6 Washington and California blends, that happened to include both the 2005 and 2010 Tapestry. The difference between the 2010 and all the other wines could be summarized as this – the 2010 was a Zin lover’s Bordeaux blend, that was darker, heavier, sweeter, and lower in acidity. Sweetness in wine has many variations, ranging from fruit sweet, to dark chocolate/cocoa, to milk chocolate, to date/raisin, to pure sugar. This was the first Tapestry we have ever had that crossed into the milk chocolate range. The only food that it went well with was a stuffed sweet red pepper. The general problem with the 2010 is being overripe, which further aging will lessen but never completely fix. Incidentally, the 2005 proved to be truly a great Tapestry, which was the favorite wine in that blind tasting.
Wonderfully integrated, multi-layered effort showing well after 4 years. Great on its own or with dinner. Pairs well with red meat. Great attack and long, long finish.

You can't go wrong with Tapestry. Just an enjoyable wine every time I've had it. Ripe plum, blueberry, and smoke on the nose. Taste of oak, espresso, berry pie, and black cherries. Smooth and long finish.

Very dark, opaque and purple-black. Wonderful aromas of blueberry, plum and mint. First taste was a blast of flavor, with some acidity. Cherry with blueberry and plums dominate. After about 30-45 minutes it settled down and gained complexity, with chocolate, menthol, tobacco and spices (mostly pepper) becoming apparent. This is an excellent example of a Napa blend, and will certainly improve with a few more years.

Good, but not as nice as the 2009. A reliable bottle that can always be counted on to deliver. Score [50 + 5 + 13 + 16 + 7] = 90. Tasted at Taste Restaurant in Cleveland, OH.

This is one of the lesser Tapestrys I have tasted.' Its a nice wine but lacks the layering of flavors I am used to. It has a bit more cherry and chocolate than I note in other vintages. I liked it and enjoyed it but wouldn't pay the $40 asking for it. There are lots of $10-20 Cali and Washingtion cabs that are comparable.

Nice, but the acid is high and overpowering the fruit for now which gives it some heat on the finish. Drying tannins on the finish. Will take 2-3 years (or more) for it all to come together, but likely to reward the patient. Update: Had another bottle and after about 5 hours in the decanter, really started to open up with the richness coming out and the drying tannins subsiding into a juicy meaty finish. Needs serious decanter time now and will develop nicely with bottle age.
Plum color, fragrant nose of dark fruits, a little cherry, clean, crisp blend, drinking well as a young wine. Agree that this is one of the best under $35

Hennepin Lake Charity Tasting Event: Tasting pour. Rock solid as usual. Year in and year out, this is a well constructed classic Bordeaux styled blend that is built to age. Flavors of cassis, black cherry, blueberry, tobacco, earth, and graphite lead into a medium plus finish. Good QPR. 91(+)pts.
