Fully mature I think — didn’t change on day 2. Continues to be much like the younger version of itself with the intensity of the line/citrus and acidity mellowed somewhat and a slightly creamier texture. I wonder if this has improved with age or if I preferred the younger version? Certainly still delicious.

Absolutely spectacular Riesling. Citrus fruit, kerosene, floral notes overlaying a massive structure and richness, high acidity, and an incredibly long finish. This is till developing and I wish in retrospect I had decanted it. Highly recommended. Can be kept till 2030 at least.

Bright clear golden yellow in color with a nose of yellow pomelos, baked lime, and lots of petrol. The palate is on the higher/fuller end of medium-bodied, fairly well-structure, clear, with lots of lively acidic savoriness (which paired really well with a pan-seared Chilean sea bass steak) but not a whole lot of nuanced complexity that I was expecting from this iconic Australian riesling. Yes, there is lots of intense yellow and green citrus fruits, a pleasant floral component, and the course the ever telltale petrol characteristics synonymous with this varietal and a lesser degree of watery spiciness and flinty but wet minerality towards the finish. Although this is a good wine, and definitely much better than the Petaluma Hanlin Hill ’14 I tried recently (but did not write a tasting note on CT) but it’s still a little bit of a disappointment for me considering all the hype surrounding this benchmark Clare Riesling. On Day 2 it was a little lighter but more integrated with slightly more prouncounced minerality towards the finish but the complexity issue remains lacking. I was wondering if more time will make a more noticeable difference in this case.

A quick glass of this last night with friends and Nepalese food (not ideal tasting conditions). Still quite primary, based on Mike Bennie Winefront note seems some of the edges have come off the wine. Distinctive power, polish and the Grosset Polish Hill smokey river pebble minerality. My quick note was ‘flat through the middle’- the gap that Mike noted is yet to bridge. A good window to the Grosset house and site style, but I’m looking for more drive in $50 Riesling. I wonder if with age and development its core might build. Hmmm. Each way bet to age longer. Was a birth year purchase. Am not sure it will get to his 10th birthday. 91 pts.

Clear as water. An immediate sense of maturity: strong petrol aromas. Is there any of the lime juice that younger Polish Hill usually has? I can't detect any. Fans of Grosset (of which I am one) tend to talk with almost religious certainty about Polish Hill's ageing capabilities, but I have to admit I found this flat on the palate, lacking in crispness, and with not nearly enough complexity to compensate. And it's not really that old... It may be sacrilege, but based on drinking about a dozen bottles aged from one to fifteen years, I really think Polish Hill tends to be at its best at about two to three years. Screwcap, 12.5%.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has light lemon green color, with wide watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus fruit of grapefruit, maturity notes of petrol, mineral notes of stony and beeswax, green fruit of green apple, stone fruit of peach, floral notes of linden. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with high acidity, the wine has medium alcohol and light body, showing medium (+) intensity flavors of green fruit of apple, citrus fruit of lemon, mineral notes of stony, maturity notes of petrol, floral notes of linden. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Australian Riesling with a good intense nose showing reasonable complexity, with already good development aromas accompanying the fruit and floral notes. The wine has robust structure, refreshing acidity and elegance, plus plenty of flavors of similar profile and a reasonable finish. It is ready to drink now but can be maintained for another 3-5 years.

Dry Riesling and Burgundy night (Olea, New Haven): One of the best dry Rieslings I've had in a while. This didn't just hold its own in the company of some of the elite growers from Alsace/Germany/Austria, but put a few of them to shame. Such compelling aromatics - there's some reduction on the nose at first that clears to reveal an intensely flinty, rocky nose, with other savoury petrol, herbal, and brighter floral and citrus zest scents emerging with more air. It's incredibly light on its feet with powerful acidity, but it never feels austere or sour - instead the palate's packed with layers of juicy, tangy citrus fruit and minerality, and a glass of this disappears far too quickly. Great wine. I'd rather have this in my cellar than almost any bottle of Großes Gewächs or Spätlese trocken.

The 2013 Grosset Polish Hill Riesling has attractive lemongrass and lime citrus aromas with some minerally notes. The same bottle, three days later, showed significantly more voluminous aromatics that are captivating and rare for such a youthful Polish Hill. The flavours are tight, fine and dry and show schisty minerality and bright lime zest flavours. It has the complexity and intensity that you’d expect: precise, detailed and clearly focused. There’s some surprising softness there that is appealing with impeccable balance on its vibrant, zingy, dry finish.

The wine is clear and bright with a pale lemon-green colour. The nose is clean and developing, showing medium(+) intensity aromas of citrus (lemon juice, lime juice), green fruit (fresh green apple) and hints of stone fruit (fresh peaches) and flowers (blossom). The wine is dry in the mouth with a high zesty acidity. It has a medium alcohol and a medium(-) body. It has pronounced intensity flavours of citrus (lemon juice, lime juice), green fruit (fresh green apple) and hints of stone fruit (fresh peaches) and flowers (blossom). The finish is long.
It is a very good quality wine. It has a great fruit concentration, well balanced by the freshness provided by the acidity, and a lingering finish. On the other hand it could be more aromatically complex.
Can drink now, but it has enough acidic structure and fruit concentration to develop more complex tertiary aromas over the next 10+ years.

(Mich&Bo@LangtonsVI) Nashi florals, lime, stainless steel, full, and surprisingly drinkable already! Off-dry (surprise!) with juicy balance, textural. Quite lovely and approachable already, without that crystalline steely tall austere acidity one expected. Ends classy with gravel, hint stone fruits and a long citrus finish. A private dinner (Restaurant Oblix, The Shard, London, UK): A classic example of its style, an excellent vintage for Polish Hill. Will last a very long time, but I also like it now.

This is basically the essence of lime pie crushed together with rocks. Searingly pure and beautiful with a taut framework that drips with precision. I know Polish Hill has a reputation for ageing beautifully, but I have always liked it young and fresh, and this is, I think, the best young one I've tried. Sherbet lime comes to mind: very long, perfectly balanced. Deeper and more complex as it may well become, this is already a great wine. 12.5%.

Langton's Classification Tasting (Carraigeworks, Sydney): Tighter than the Watervale. Slate, touch of florals and orange rind. The palate is restrained as well and the acidity is very well integrated. Approachable for a young Polish Hill, but it isn't near its best yet.

MNB: Riesling vs. Chenin: (blind)
Medium straw color.
10g RS.
On the nose: Notable petrol. Not super fruit-driven. Vague lime citrus.
12% alcohol, super clean, high acid, excellent midpalate aromatics of underripe white peach, lime, orange blossom.
TDN indicates Riesling.
Clean, high-acid, slight-RS style of riesling with excellent low-ripeness aromatics.
Laterals:
- Alsace, Austria - would be riper.
- Australia - Could be, and the petrol would make sense, but wouldn't have RS.
I'm left with Germany.
With 10g, RS and 12% alcohol...
Final call: Mosel, Kabinett Trocken, 2016, good quality, $40
- Alcohol too low for GG.
- RS too low for Spatlese
I love this wine - it has way more mid-palate aromatics than the first two. I suspect it might be Australian despite the RS.
Actually: 2013 Grosset Polish Hill (usually 1-2g RS), 12.5%
Analysis: I need to revise my "Zero RS ever" opinion of Australia. 1-3g is common.

fairly discreet on the nose (esp compared to springvale). lovely on the palate. stony/flinty, well integrated and balanced. bit of acidity that should help with ageing.

Langton's Classification Tasting (Carraigeworks, Sydney): Tighter than the Watervale. Slate, touch of florals and orange rind. The palate is restrained as well and the acidity is very well integrated. Approachable for a young Polish Hill, but it isn't near its best yet.
