Decanted for 3 hours and nose its still closed. Probably need longer decanting to open up the wine. When swirl, notes become more pronounced and you have mushroom, ripe red and black fruits, prune. Medium+ acidity and medium tannin. Tannin is integrated.

Needs a couple hours air to open up as it a bit shrill upon opening. Ended up being a lovely bdx in early maturity. Tannins integrated and soft, with some the fruit with mature elements but still forward. Lovely herbal leafy notes mixed in. Excellent Pomerol. More elegant and refined than powerful.

I am totally digging this wine. Brilliant ruby color is followed by a nose that has fruit, leather, dark chocolate and spice - A+. Mature palate that is sweet, structured and balanced. Totally resolved with a tobacco finish. I wish I had more of this in the cellar. (94)

Nice bottle with lots of fruit which started out a little tart after a 3 hour decant but ended very well. That said, Pomerol tend to be a little too plummy for me these days, preferring Pauillac or St Emillion

Bordeaux September 2020 First bottle out of 6 & it's a very good 1995' a lot of "cool" fruit and not as dry as many can be in 95 - very precise, stellar Pomerol nose, chocolat, burned brown sugar, and still quite young at the age of 25, most have been store in a cool cellar, this may not be as good as La Fleur Petrus Christmas eve (95) and La Conseillante (94) but close it's very close, would be great fun to have those against each other ! ! 5th of 12, opened 160 minutes, decanted 80, perfect cork and level, flavour profile as noted in May 15 bottle, but more energy, silk and harmony, big step up, now properly mature and with 10 plus years of further development. F+ (18)...these 95s are at last losing their austere edge!

Bit underwhelming back in 1995 but much better in more recent vintages. Light berry notes and touch of milk chocolate. Medium bodied and medium length. Balanced but lacks a sense of energy and purpose. Well made but just didn't set off any of the senses. Drink up.

This most certainly benefits from a few hours in the decanter, and it shrugs off the typical 1995 tannic austere backbone with sufficient aeration. The nose is deep and aromatic with raspberry, plum, tobacco, and cedar prominent. The tannin is now smooth on the palate and it has a typical Pomerol opulence, and is well balanced with good depth. The finish does not really match the quality of the rest of the wine, and is on the shorter side and a little unbalanced towards the end. I would probably have scored this a point higher, but the bottle was slightly off kilter, and probably had been stored badly. 93+

Leathery, smoky nose, with redcurrant and plum. Lightly floral. Becomes meatier and reveals coffee and toffee after an hour. Some truffle after three hours. Palate features very ripe plum and black cherry, as well as a touch of earth. Lush mouthfeel. Still a hint of tannin to resolve. Medium-plus alcohol, medium acidity, and medium-length floral finish. Quite nice Pomerol at or near its peak.

Decanted 90 minutes. Dark red fruits, earth, some tannin still present on the finish. Medium bodied, elegant, and a very good match with food. Has a bit of the 95 austerity to it, but overall this is just really good Bordeaux. Just a bit short on the finish, but possible a longer decant would have opened this up a bit more. A-/A

Deep crimson red this wine has a lovely nose of raspberry, blackcurrant, plum, tobacco and cedar with a touch of Provencal herbs. the palate was initially quite stern but a couple of hours in the decanter revealed a luscious fruit component balanced by fine tannins and a terrific savoury note. Early bottles of this were very stern and it now seems to be entering a fine maturity.

Decanted for a good hour and advisable. Once again a bit of a hit n miss wine and we have had variable TNs on this wine over the last 7 years ( Papies 91-95). On this occasion the wine was very good albeit not great and definitely was below the Evangile 95 (Papies 94) and lacked a bit of depth. Very classic, elegant wine, subtle with good notes of dark fruits, earthy notes, tobacco and with a herbaceous side all along. Very pretty wine and definitely well enjoyable but lacked the greatness factor we experienced with better bottles. 92 on this occasion.

This is a beautiful VCC in the making with plenty of sweet plum and dark berry fruit along with notes of smoked earth, tobacco and spices. There is good structure underneath making this a beautifully balanced wine that can be enjoyed now but will clearly continue to age beautifully. 93+

Clean but shy nose, not as forward as earlier bottles. Sweet and smooth on entry, firm mid-palate with some tannins yet to resolve, lush and almost full-bodied, seems to have put on weight vs previous bottles. Strong burnt tobacco aftertaste. Good balance overall, based on this showing, should last for years. 93-94 pts.

Rich dark fruit, rocks, ferrous notes, dark earth. Surprisingly deep umami notes on the palate here, performing quite well for such a young wine. Certainly the best bottle of this wine that I have had, and very different than other recent experiences. 30 minute decant, consumed over 2 hours. 93+

Tasted blind. A bit mute on the nose, notes of cedar and slights greenness. In the mouth it's a completely different story. Lush, rounded, fully resolved soft tannins. Smoky with notes of mulberry and game. Wonderful fruit here, shows what this chateau can do when cellared.

Classic nose with notes of dark earth, celery root, dark berries, hints of cedar and light mildew. While this performed slightly better on the palate than other recent bottles, I still found this to be thin and somewhat short on the finish. Dry earth and faint dark fruit on the front palate but this fades across the midpalate. Tannins are still quite noticeable but supple and provide good textural contrast. Decanted 45 minutes. 91+

Decanted 2 hours. I have really enjoyed recent bottles of this and this one was probalby the best. More open and expansive than my last note of a year ago, and really showing a great balance of fruit and elegance - although the fruit showed a bit more ripe and lush than I remember (in a very good way). The tannins were more resolved and this would not be a wine I would pick out as a '95. Really nice. A-/A

4th of 12, perfect fill, decanted 90 minutes, previous notes very good or better - deepish plummy red, lightening rim, quite viscous; attractive nuanced bouquet, bramble tending to mulberry, violet notes, cigar box and earth; medium full, long, decent balance, but fruit lacking energy and somehow dilute and less than the promise on the nose, confused and not sure where this is heading. Fine just, if slightly disappointing for VCC and not a patch on l'Eglise Clinet or Cheval (17.5/20).

Bright medium ruby. Even coloring with good texture and depth. Complex aromatics; initially broad and fruity merlot character followed by cabernet depth and strong red-fruit bouquet. Sweet oak tannins illustrate high quality oak treatment. Long, lingering finish. Drinking very well; not on the decline.

Decanted 3+ hours. Improved in the decanter, but not to the level I was hoping for. Mildly interesting nose of dusty old cigar box, but then suggestions of under-ripe fruit with celery and red capsicum. Palate leans towards tart red fruits, however it's thin, tight and short. Tannins still spiky despite nearly 20 years of age. Overall, disappointing.

Popped, poured, swirled in glass for 30 minutes, consumed over next 90. Wonderful aromatics. I could have been happy just sniffing. Tobacco, cedar, leather, earth, dark fruit, and a bit of chocolate, all seamlessly integrated. Nicely balanced, well resolved, lots of life left, should continue to develop on its balance and structure, maintains its elegance through a medium length finish. Just missing a tiny bit of energy in the mid-palate to push it over the top. Still, a very satisfying bottle of wine with fabulous aromatics. 94+

Dinner for a friends birthday: A wonderful bottle of 1995 Pomerol that was hitting on all cylinders. As much as some say 1995 vintage was harsh I think if you go to Pomerol or anything with a heavy dose of merlot it really seems to meld together and keep it smooth. The cab franc really sang to you on the nose but on the palate the merlot came together beautifully. Some floral coming out on the mouth as well. This wine seemed to be right at the beginning of its peak of balance. The tannins were barely there and gave good grip with a slight dryness but you could drink this all night as it is not thick or rich just pretty and finesse with a good mouthfeel. Drink now aor over the next 10-15 years

From 750. Decanted 1 hour. Dark red, nice nose of earth and graphite along with the fruit. Good on entry, although just a little light on concentration. Good finish, with the expected tannin of the '95s. This is a very good wine, in particular given the vintage (which I find inconsistent and sometimes too lean for me). Seems to be in its windows, but no signs of decline. A-

1999 Petrus Tasting (Metropolitan wine cellar, HK): Saw some TN from others and it seems this wine could be quite inconsistent, so I guess I'm lucky that the bottle just tried came up rather nicely. Fascinating nose, with layers of floral, minerals, blue fruits, violet, damp earth, mushroom and some herbal scent. It gives a warm, comforting feeling to the taster. Rich, balanced on the palate, blue and red fruits, earth, plum notes, silky and lush mouth feel. Very fine tannins, softened already but it has a touch of grippy feel to it which is nice. Long finish, plum meat, cigar smoke and floral notes. A satisfying tasting indeed.

I am also perplexed by this wine. I bought a case en primeur and had a few bottles last year and was really disappointed. Felt thin and not much to the nose. This time it was the best that I have had it. Still looks young but the nose was more open and there was more substance to it. It is never going to be a heavy weight, more of a lunch wine (damning praise indeed). You usually get what you pay for and the market has decided this is a $100 wine and it will never be much more than that. Best to drink the rest up or sell it on I fear.

Sunday supper. Good cork. Good colour, especially for an 18 year old. Initially quite restrained onthe nose, elegant bouquet of black fruit. Opened up a lot after a couple of hours - real fragrance, fruit, bit of fennel. Lovely midweight wine, again taut at first but later verye elgant, silky, very good length and midapalte complexity. Lovely.

Finally a good bottle and thank you PCLIN for pointing out the volatility in this wine. We decanted for 1.5 hours (much needed ) and this developed into a formidable yet balanced beauty. Colour is still very dark. On the nose it has herbal notes, earthy, tobacco and lots of dark fruit. Very nice nose. The palate carries on the tune and proudly displays solid fruit from start to finish, silky tannin and long long finish. Having been dissapointed twice so far with this wine, it was good to see it singing. 95 easy and drink from now but good life ahead of it.

This left me rather indifferent. Not bad just not a great old pomerol. Quite disappointing really. Thought I hadn't let it open for long enough so kept a third of the bottle all afternoon in decanter. In evening still hadn't opened up much. Not sure it will improve although Neil Martin thinks so as he says "The palate is full-bodied, still rather unresolved, sinewy, very structured with oak dominating. But there is sufficient fruit concentration to suggest that this could be a real long-term VCC like those of old. Don’t say I did not tell you...but cellar it long-term. Drink 2018-2040. Tasted November 2008."

Never developed into what we thought it could achieve. A touch dissapointing vs the 95 Evangile ( Papies 95) . Decanting does help open and develop the nose. Cedar notes ( more cab sauv here right?), earthy notes, light peppery notes and a touch floral. On the plate it is not there and la is the depth the nose suggests. Maybe on the young side ? 91-92 now from us.
While there are truffle, earth, cocoa, plums, coffee and plum notes, there is a slight hard leaning to the wine that might not soften enough over time. This is probably a good example of old school Pomerol. It's a structured, masculine Pomerol with a tannic spine that seems to want more time in the cellar. Like many wines from the vintage, it's more interesting on the nose than the palate and it's still young. But is that a good thing for a wine approaching its 20th birthday?

Better bottle this time (cork intact and no leakage). Fantastic balance, and this has the fruit to age more and will get richer. Too sappy for me now, will revisit in 5yrs and drink cases to 2030. Decanted 3hrs and drank over next 5hrs, wine held up very well. Same tasting notes as before. The best value vintage of VCC, with more potential than the 82, 89 or 90... And for less than half the price of the 09 and 10.
lots of cigar box, toast, savory minerals, smoke, black fruits, a little sweet, minty and dried herbs. Not drinking badly at all. Opened 3 1/2 hours prior and decanted 1 1/2 hours prior to drinking.

This bottle is not showing as well as previous bottles. Subtle nose and not as clean as I remember. Slight acidity emerges at the end of the 2-hours meal. Overall balance not as good as well. Roast, with some tobacco and red berries. Smooth, easy drinking, medium weight and finish. Drinking now with short decant, but ideal drinking window (despite vintage) 2020-2030. Not quite the balance or complexity of my favorite VCC vintages, but good QPR. Bad cork but wine ok.

The wine showed brick red on the edges, beautifully aged wine. Notes of black currant, blackberry, plum, mint and cedar.Tannins were sweet and almost completely resolved and very little oak presented. Medium-bodied with low acidity. This wine completely blew away the La Conseillante 1995 I had yesterday. This is exactly what I would expect from a great Pomerol, soft, elegant, balance, and fruity. The wine is in top drinking form now and should last for a while. First bottle of two cases I bought during EP. I am really going to enjoy this wine for years to come. Wow! I love Pomerols! 95 Pts.

From 750ml. Decanted 2 hours before serving. Colour lighter brick red, with no brown tinge. Not the brightest wine. Nose was Pomerol earthiness but with the added complexity of berries from the Cabernet Franc. On the palate, pure elegance with a completely integrated mid palate and finish. Not especially long. A class act for this chateaux but perhaps not quite up to the reputation of the vintage. Perfect drinking now and will comfortably last another 5 years or so.

good quality but I expected more from this bottle : Vieux Château Certan is considered one of the great Pomerol estates and 1995 is considered a good year, 91 is pretty low score when you consider who much you have to pay to get your hands on a bottle

Starts out still quite tannic without much sign of age in the fruit department. It continues to perform like a young wine for the rest of the night, but the structure relaxes and streamlines itself into a thing of grand cru Burgundian elegance; the tannins so pampering in their cashmere touch that you almost don't want them to age away. Rewarding to drink now for that reason, but otherwise still in need of long-term cellaring.

An excellent VCC, drinking superbly right now and boasting lots of aromatic and palate complexity. The wine has achieved near-perfect balance, with everything in perfect proportion allowing the individual elements to complement each other tremendously. Tough to imagine a wine that's 65% Merlot coming from anywhere else in the world and achieving this level of class and sophistication. No sense to wait on this much longer; enjoy it now while it's still got everything going for it.

Hart Davis Hart Wine Co Comparative Bordeaux Tasting Vintages 1995 & 1996 (Newberry Library, Chicago IL): I really like this wine. Better than the 1996. Bordeaux for Burgundy lovers! Real subtle cocoa notes, some tree fruit and a little bit floral. Not a ton going on the nose - but the taste is where it shines! Med-full body. Awesome fruit finish and well integrated tannins. Could still use a little bit of aging.

HDH Fine and Rare Wines at Flair House (Flair House 219 W Erie Street, Chicago): Sight: Medium garnet color. Still no rimming on the edges. Nose: Heavenly, well integrated notes of oak and flowers on the nose. Vanillins dancing in the background along with some roasted nuts. Taste: Awesome. I clocked the finish at 15+ seconds. The balance between the tannins and the plum and red tree fruits was great. The amazing component was the taste of rose petals - yes, the taste of rose petals (as though rose water had been added to the wine - it was really sexy).
Overall: This was an amazing bottle of this wine. I was very impressed. My concern is that by reviewing the other tasting notes and the variance between this and the follow-on time that I had the same wine it appears that there is some variance between bottlings. 95- minus points.

Medium Neck Fill. Opened, Cork Old, Musty, Soft. Not a good cork. Lots of Tea, and tannins on fill. Lacks aroma. I've expected so much from this 150USD wine, but it's not worth that price for a VCC. Low neck fill. Maroon, with moderate amber at the rim. This is very pleasant and elegant Pomerol, showing a lot of tea along with ripe black cherries, stewed plums, and coffee. The wine seems more mature than its age of 10 years, and the finish is lovely, with bright acid and nearly resolved tannins. The RP drinking window is listed as 2000-2012, and that seems about right to me. This wine seems to be about at its peak now.
