We had an ’04 two nights earlier and LOVED it. So we had high expectations for this bottle. It was fine; nothing was really wrong with it. But it seemed more tired than the ‘04, lacked some of the minerality and acid that made the ‘04 sing.

Beguiling, beautiful nose of white fruit, spice, and a hint of honeyed development balanced by still-youthful reduction. Palate not quite as impressive as the nose, lacking the energy of the better bottles. Still, very good.

A celebration with friends (Home): Pale straw. Decanted a couple of hours in advance, initially quite rich and lacking in some definition, though clearly correct cf the poxed Clavoillon alongside, this sheds its puppy fat in the decanter and when served absolutely sings Puligny with it's white floraility and fruit. So precise and mineral, lithe, long and just so elegant. A rapier to the Bouchard Combettes's sabre. Grand Cru complexity without being encumbered with the extra weight. A really super bottle. *****

not blind Typical very good Burgundy with some age but missing length and precision to be a real big player. In a good stage to drink. Maybe 5 more years. 92-93

The 2012 Leflaive Puligny Montrachet Les Pucelles is stepping into its drinking window. Top tier Premier Cru substance with mildly glossy wood spices. In blind I thought it was a Bienvenue Batard Montrachet (which is located right next to Les Pucelles). Rich orchard fruits, good texture and hint of petrol. Drinking well and good for medium term ageing. 2013? Bienvenue Batard Montrachet? (90/100)

Served blind guessed this as Leflaive Pucelles 09 - was quite ripe for a 12 I thought later but showing well, but for me was the "weakest" wine of a great flight (aside of pox Leflaive Pucelles 10) with all others being Grand Crus with PYCM Chevalier 13, Sauzet Chevalier 08 and Leflaive BBM 98.

La Grand Rue Dinner (Iggy's, Hilton Hotel, Singapore): Excellent. What a lovely nose this had. Pure Leflaive Pucelles, with a lovely flinty, earthy minerality underlying a ripe bouquet of yellow fruit, touched with little floral and sweet cream accents. The palate was drinking well, with a blush of ripe, fleshy apple on the attack, and riper yellow fruit notes on the midpalate, all this underlined by a lovely, chewy minerality that stretched away into a long, flinty finish infused with a nice spiciness. Superb length and good depth to this. Decently balanced too, if just a bit shorter on the tension and acidity than a solid 2012 Marc Morey Referts served alongside - this had just a hint of fat around the waist. Otherwise, just lovely.

Beat out 15 other high end Chards all served blind including many other white Burgs. Wonderful floral aromas with lime notes followed by bright stone fruits and a pretty citrus oil finish. Nice density to the fruit too. Young and fresh with good vibrancy. I could easily see upside here with time.

Chardonnay Shootout: Burgundy vs New World, Double Blind (Booth One - Chicago IL): Double blind in Chardonnay New World vs Old World shootout. Easily the class of the flight. Ripe peach and baked apple with apple pie spice. Very rich and slightly toasty, but finishing strong and long with great textures. Correctly identified as Burgundy.

Super delicious out of magnum, this is ripe and layered, with bold citrus and deeper stone fruits. Grand cru weight with subtle minerals. Drinking beautifully.

Musique & Vin Festival BYO Dinner (Château de Meursault): Small glass from magnum, brief note. Wonderful spice and ripe peach aromas and flavors with some toasted walnuts and candied orange peel. Almost borderline sweet, but so rich and powerful with commensurate concentration. Tough to tell how delightfully this will age, but it is wonderful right now.

Gigantic wine. Nothing less. Very complex terroir interpretation that is salty, crispy, stony and mineralrich. Full of exotic fruits, lemons (both candied and grilled), butter and yeast and toast.
With air comes the deeper butter tones, caramel and grilled fruits. More herbal, stony and floral, more apple, pear, citrus zest as well as some cucumber and vanilla. Mouthwatering acidity.

Great white Burgundy - Wine tasting dinner (At home): 4 flights tasted 1. Chablis: Vincent Dauvissat Les Clos magnum '08 (typical Dauvissat - compared directly to Raveneau it is richer, the intensity is a little too high, it is less delicate and less complex. It is an extremely good wine indeed, but Raveneau is even better 94/100) against Raveneau Les Clos '08 (i must admit my favourite Chablis - none beside or above Raveneau - takes time to open in the glass! Almost no flavours in the beginning but it opens up… Extremely delicate, high complexity and very good balance. Missed a little intensity in the aromas and flavours 95+/100) 2. P-M vs Meursault: Domaine Leflaive 1. cru. les Pucelles '12 (Pucelles is in general Leflaives best 1. cru. I love the minerality and the toast, no premox at all which makes sense since it is from 2012, 95/100) against Coche-Dury 1. cru Genevrieres '06 (lots of tertiary notes including hazelnut, I believe it is on the top or a little over the top, extremely good, drink now, 96/100) 3. Le Montrachet: Bouchard Pere & Fils Le Montrachet '09 (Definitely a good wine but not better than the Pucelles and Meursault above, it is Le montrachet and I would have expected a little more intensity, 95/100) against Comtes Lafon Le Montrachet '09 (The winner of the tasting, a little too intense but closed in the beginning but opens up in the glass and the intensity, complexity and balance end up being very nice. A top quality glass 97/100. Not many wines are better - but there are examples: I can recall DRC Le Montrachet '11 which was one step above) 4. Sundry: Kumeu River Hunting Hill '13 (Tasted blind - Recognised as a new world wine, more intensity than Bourgognes, 90/100). Penfolds Chardonnay Yattarna '15 (93/100). Vocoret et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot '14 ( better than expected, a light wine, 90/100).

Nydelig parfymert nese med blomster, julekrydder a la anis og sitrus. Elegant med flott intensitet. Silkemyk inngang før intensiteten slår til. Strøken balanse mellom frukt og syre. Smooth vin. Lineær og presis. Ung men drikker likevel bra. Meget lang finish med prikkende mineraler og syre. Good stuff! 93-94p

$225 at Jerardi's Little Store. One of the last wines Barbara tasted before she died, perhaps an hour or two before her cardiac arrest, at MoCOOL 2016. I opened for a slow-ox and poured a half ounce to test its soundness. Obviously a great classic of a white Burgundy, needing time and air to show its best. Barbara agreed that it was a very fine example of a dry white. Purchased by Linda S. for the tasting. No hurry to drink, a good guess might be 2020-2025, although I've limited experience with white Burgs. 95-97. Also tasted under the same circumstances were the magnum of 1975 Lascombes, the 1970 Montrose, and the 1976 Maximin Grünhäuser Abtstberg Auslese Fuder Nr. 75. Each and every one was sound and still quite alive and drinkable, as Barbara confirmed.
