Consumed over 2 nights. Big and alcoholic. Had a hard time getting past the cocktail aspects of this. I guess I enjoyed it more on night one where there were some savory aspects to this but still found it too big for my palate.

Disappointing upon PNP. After an hour in the bottle with a slow O, this really started to open up & blossom. Very different experience compared to the last bottle we had in Mar ‘23 which was open right out of the gate. This one was very harsh upon opening. Prickly tannins, disjointed & alcoholic. Turned into a beauty on the nose & palate!

Great bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Clear, brick coulored. Nose of red and dark berries, choclate, earthy. Mature, dark berries, soft but still active tannins. Medium to low acidity. Some sweetness from the fully integrated 16% alcohol. Long dark berries finish. Very good to a Boeuf Bourgignon.

Poured blind and wife guessed Chateanef-du-Pape. Correct!! She is really good at this. Black tea with sweetness of plum, licorice, red berries. Getting garrigue. Mature. So open up, don't wait.

Gang of 4 in Covid19 times; Some random wines. (@ RW): In the bouquet red berries and a bit rustic as well as herbs and spices. In the bouquet the same impressions with a firm amount of sweetness, pleasant acidity and mild tannin. 89 / 90

84-85 A very tasty wine, but at £35, even for CdP, I'm a little disappointed. The nose is enticing, but the palate is so hot and unbalanced it's unforgivable at the price point.
Nosel: Perfumed sweet baking spice crumble mix, sprinkled on mulled raspberry and forest berries. Some boozy young LBV notes creeping through.
Pal: Plush red and black fruit up front, oak tree, then a hit of heat. Spice, tannin and leather is carried with it like a whisky.
Fin: Mouthwash alcohol, very clean, wood and smashed raspberry.

This wine is very vintage-specific. In some years, it is below but not way below the better cuvees and in weak years it is not very good. This is a good year and it is a very well made, fruit forward wine that shows Cambie's style well. If you think Cambie is the spawn of the devil, stay away and that will mean more for me.

This is definitely a brave wine that clearly gives a better and more balanced impression than for 3 years ago.
The wine is a powerhouse: it is very full-bodied, very fruity and very strongly alcoholic (16%). The aroma and flavor palette is powerful as well, featuring menthol, eucalyptus, pine needles, tar, smoke, Mediterranean herbs and blackberry. The lively acidity is bringing some freshness, though. Moreover, compared to the condition for 3 years ago, the wine is now much more multidimensional and complex. It may indeed just be approaching its peak.

Slow ox'ed for 30 minutes. Medium garnet-ruby in appearance. The barnyard funk blew off after about half a minute and reveals a nose of sweet figs, ripe plums, with some spicy black cherries; hints of bacon fat are also noticed. There are black and red currants on the palate along with some black cherries and black licorice with a hint of kirsch on the palate. Medium bodied with a medium+ finish. Last tasted December 2015. This is coming right along.

From memory. Initial taste was reserved but you knew it would open up. And it did. Fairly quickly. Lot of fruit, cherries, red currants. Then the garrigue showed up which made it fantastic. Good acidity. Food friendly. Paired it with traditional Armenian food. Was a hit.

A simple note. Blend of 6 grapes, GSM plus Muscardin, Cinsault, Vaccareze. Medium bodied. Not fruity, oaky thick kind of wine at all, as with ordinary CDP reds. Clean, raspberries, strawberries, some spices. Recommend to bottle-breathe it for 10 min and enjoy next day.

Decant and pour immediately at dinner with client at Bobby Vann's. Started out spicy and herbal. As it took on air, the fruit emerged more and more over 60 minutes or so. Red raspberry, but not sweet and creamy raspberry. More a meaty dark and almost tart raspberry with some blackberry mixed in. This is a great base level CDP.

This is the entry level Clos St.Jean, with "The Big Man," Philippe Cambie, as the winemaker. I first had the 2005 vintage of this wine about 8 years ago in DC when I was there for a conference and my uncle was unable to meet me for dinner because he was going to a wine dinner. He arranged for me to attend, and it turned out to be Cambie and Vincent Maurel, the owner, pouring their entire lineup. I was not a fan of the 2005 vintage of this wine, especially compared to the La Combe des Fou and Deus ex Machina of the same vintage. The intervening seven years have been put to good use. The base cuvee is now quite excellent, and the higher level wines are probably even better.
Popped, decanted and poured - disappeared quickly among three of us, so not followed for more than perhaps 45 minutes. A very smooth and approachable mixture of herbal earthiness and a raspberry backbone. Very easy to drink. I think it will blossom with even more fruit, but it is quite good now. The modern techniques that Cambie uses make the wine approachable young while backing enough punch to last a long time.
When I first met Cambie, I commented to him after dinner that I had heard he was known as the Michel Rolland of Chateauneuf. He responded, in his thick French accent, "Non, non, Monsieur, Michel Rolland is the Philippe Cambie of Bordeaux."

Drank over two days, alongside two outstanding Saint-Damien Gigondas wines, for which this functioned as the pacesetter. Yes...for clarity...this fine Chateauneuf-du-Pape served as the opening act for Gigondas...and performed admirably! Recommend drinking from Burgundy or Pinot Noir stems, as Bordeaux stems funnel and propel 16 percent alcohol vapors straight through the nasal membrane, directly to the brain. From a Burgundy stem, the bouquet offers molasses, purple flowers, spice, pepper, coco powder, dried plums (prunes), dates, fig cake, fennel, and black rock minerals. Somehow, someway, it wears its alcohol well enough, showing ample richness and glycerin-like texture. It also pulls off an interesting type of balance, the saturated substance toning down the alcohol. Far from the last word in complexity, but there is a truckload of it, all quite appealing.
Nose - brambleberry, blueberry, dark cherry, fruit driven nose Mouth - melange of Red and dark fruits, dark fruit licorice, touch candied, ripe and lush fruit, a crowd pleaser for sure

Mainly made from Grenache, completed with a touch of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Vaccarèse and Muscardin. The Grenache was aged for 16 months in concrete tanks, the other varieties in oak barrels. Decanted: one hour in advance. High alcohol level (16 percent by volume), easy to drink and rather light-bodied. Medium-intense, quite translucent ruby-red color with a watery rim. Aromatic nose with notes of berry fruit, spices, licorice and a touch of leather. The palate reveals a very approachable wine, plenty of juicy berry and cherry fruit, with a good acid structure and sweet tannins, although a bit more weight and depth wouldn’t hurt. A reasonably extended finish. An enjoyable and harmonious wine, but in my opinion too expensive for what it is.

Label say 16% ABV ... WOW. This needs time because for me the best part is the nose which shows nice layers of pepper, licorice, blackberry, boysenberry. On the palate some blackberry, pepper and oak. Needs a couple of years or a long decant.

Popped and poured last night. This wine needs aeration an hour or two as still very primary. It is tanic and inky to my taste buds when drunk straight from bottle at cellar temp. After an hour or two, a different wine with less tannins and more dark fruit and bacon fat. My guess is this wine is a bit young and will easily age another 5 -10 years. Will leave alone my other bottles for 5 years

A bit more expressive and balanced than previous bottles. Smoke, cured meat, spices and lots of ripe cherry fruit. The alcohol is showing a little towards the finish. Should improve, but already quite delicious - especially with food. 91-92+

I really like 2012 CdPs and think many are really under-rated (much like 2009s). Here the Mourvedre isn't quite ready and needs a couple of years in bottle. However, the great Grenache and Cinsault are already showing - gorgeous mouthfeel. Wood tannins a bit pronounced at the moment, I would wait until 2020 to allow the wood and Mourvedre to integrate. This will age well and is the best vintage since 2010. 16% alcohol.

Decanted for 30 minutes, pored through Venturi in a large burgundy glass. Full bodied leather nose still marked by alcohol. Rich, textured mouth, raspberry notes. Will develop nicely over a few years. Leave to decant longer as the wine evolved beautifully in the glass for 15 minutes. Have rest of bottle in the evening

90 min decant and poured through a vinturri. Medium-dark ruby in colour; has a nose of herby black cherries, meat, and touches of kirsch. Plums and black cherries dominate the palate along with some licorice and dark green herbs lingering along; bitter dark chocolate in the end; good tannins and acidity provide a nice backbone.

Very dark in colour, purple around the rim. Expressive on the nose - spices, quite sweet notes of cherry liqueur, wood smoke, cured meat. This has settled down from the en primeur tasting. Well balanced with good acidity, grippy tannins, ripe fruit. A touch heavy with some heat coming through towards the finish. Decent length. Drinking well, but a big wine. 90-92

I drank this during a meal from two different glasses: first from a red Bordeaux glass and then from a red Burgundy glass. These experiences were remarkably different, and the latter glass was unquestionably better.
The wine is ready to drink even at this age. It is full-bodied, quite soft, very fruity and very alcoholic (16 %). The lively acidity brings some freshness, but the overall impression is big, heavy and strong. There are some nice flavors of pine needles, ripe red berries, plum and tar. However, alcohol dominates too much, and one-dimensionality is a problem. The taste gives you immediately what it has to offer, there are neither any mysteries nor different phases of taste on the palate.
I still have another bottle, but I am not sure, if I would like to buy this more for storing. Let's see how the other bottle evolves, but I am not confident.

Great nose dominated by raspberry. Full body and powerfull palate with discreet and round tannins and a ton of red fruits. Way more open than first bottle drunk six months ago. Really good QPR. AS good as 2009 and 2010 and at under 30 what a deal.

Sweetness and vigor here, it holds its sexy sixteen percent (!), but Cambie is better than most (if any) to handle the challenge, and the wine seems never brash, nor pruney, just rich, generous (some would say vampy, I do not agree), here is also a base of acidity and freshness, the wine is not cooked, all though you finde a glooming aftertaste. The wine can easily be enjoyed young, due to the vintage and the modern style. In my opinion the best vintage (in modern times ) of this wine.

I am utterly unimpressed with this wine and doesn't motivate me to try its big brother at $100+. Very muted fruit with awkward tannins. Finishes hot. I have .5 glass on pop-n-pout, let the bottle sit overnight and had 1 more glass. The rest went down the drain.
I picked up 6 at $20 each and feel like I paid too much. Will let the other 5 sit for 3-4 year and see how they turn out.
Dark red; young red fruit - lots of it; very powerful and heavy, almost brutal, lots of power, tannins, bit of licorice; well tasting and nice but without finesse

Popped and poured. The nose was slightly roasted, but not pruney, some sandlewood, raspberry...and alcohol. The palate was medium bodied, red fruits, some minerals, fairly firm finish with dusty tannins, a hint of pepperiness and bitterness...and alcohol warmth. A decent wine but it clocks in at 16% and shows it. The alcohol was a bit too dominant and tended to overshadow or at least compete with the positive attributes of the wine. Would not buy any more.

From a good vintage with a long picking season known for its acid and elegance. Clear, medium+ ruby.
Nose is powerful and upfront. Typical CdP notes of leather, mint, blueberry and blackberry compote with a floral elegance.
Palate is full, ripe and spicy. Chalky tannins. Hot and drinks very young.
Flavours are lean and disappointing, lacking fruit density.
Too young. Give it another decade.

Mouth - melange of Red and dark fruits, dark fruit licorice, touch candied, ripe and lush fruit, a crowd pleaser for sure

Served by the glass, Caveau in Singapore. Sweeter than I expected - not really my preferred style in CDP

No formal notes - over dinner. Again rather massive and a little alcoholic. Good acidity, soft tannins. 89-91

Label say 16% ABV ... WOW. This needs time because for me the best part is the nose which shows nice layers of pepper, licorice, blackberry, boysenberry. On the palate some blackberry, pepper and oak. Needs a couple of years or a long decant.

PnP. An Old World palate and finish that is complex and accentuates black pepper. Well balanced and complex enough to appreciate without food. Low tanins and moderate acidity.

Pure and light bodied, mostly "high notes" from the Grenache. I expect this to put on a bit more weight with time, but this is excellent now and definitely ready.

Tasted during a Clos Saint Jean wine dinner with Domaine owner Vincent Maurel. Nose of red fruit, kirsch, bonbon, spices. Pleasant palate, still 16% alcohol, soft structure. A nice everyday CdP.
