This is smack-dab in the zone right now. Dark fruits but very balanced and fully integrated with the oak - noticeably so even from a couple years ago. This should hold for a long time but it's drinking incredibly well right now. 2012 continues to be one of my favorite Bedrock vintages.

I have been holding this for 10 years and just opened my first bottle. I was worried by some of the reviews but this was fantastic. This is in a great drinking window right now and will keep for another 5+ ahead. I don’t see a reason to wait longer though. The tannins are still there, but very fine and light now. The flavors are dark berry and earth, maybe some light leathery notes. Great acidity here and it works well with hamburgers and would be good with a bolognese ragu. This is a field blend, and the grape varieties I see for Pagani Ranch on the internet are not consistent. Everyone says Zinfandel is predominant, with some Carignan, Alicante Bouschet and lots of others. If you had asked me to guess, I would have picked out the Carignan first followed by Zinfandel, Grenache and Alicante, but what do I know? Apparently no Grenache here but it fooled me. Whatever it is, it is elegant, medium bodied and acidic, and good with rich meats.
P.S. reading a wine magazine the following day, I discover that Alicante Bouschet is a cross with Grenache and Petit Bouschet, so maybe my guess on Grenache wasn’t so bad. Lots of that Grenache red fruit there.

This is the first bottle of our 3 bottle allocation and I’m glad we gave it a decade to sort it’s self out. Drank 2 small glasses through Coravin last night and it was still flabby and heavy, tonight we opened the bottle and gave it 2 hours to air out, tonight the fruit is bouncing out of the glass and drinking beautifully. 93

NYE Dinner with a roasted leg of lamb. This was a bit past prime I felt. Starting to get a touch pruney. My fault for letting it sit this long. Will get to my final bottle soon. Rich purple coloring, deep/dark profile. Pagani is always a bit gnarly and I like that.

This bottle was the first of four purchased from Bedrock in one of my first initial purchases joining the allocation list. Glad I got the chance to have this. Still a lot of fruit on this with some wonderful dark black and blue fruit notes. I got some blueberry, blackberry, licorice notes on the palate. Not a huge licorice fan so maybe my score is a point or two low but overall you could tell this is a well made high quality wine. I will likely revisit another soon to see what emerges.

Meant to open a 13 to check in but grabbed a 12 on accident. No harm no foul - Dark and brooding still but delicious after an hour of air. No rush but the 12's continue to be fire!

A serious zin. I find that Bedrock’s zins seem to shed weight and gain nuance and elegance as they mature. It’s full of blue and black fruits and complemented by a touch of cedar. Long long finish. Just great right now.

Yeah, baby!!! This is a HUGE wine jam packed with hefty black and blue fruit, juicy pomegranate, and ripe black plum that reminds me of a Napa Cab, as one of the other tasters recently noted. Perhaps it's the powerful Petite at Pagani that pushes this prodigious juice into the realm of the "Big Wine" category of opulence and structure, or maybe it's just the excellent fruit and deft winemaking at Bedrock. Great on pop and pour, yet with just an hour the complexity emerged, with secondary notes of minerals and hints of zest on the finish. Reminds me of a wonderful jam-packed Ridge Pagani from the early 90's that I drank around ten years out, so you know this is a special wine.

PnP. Deep ruby with no notable aging. Red and black fruit nose with a hint of menthol and graphite. Rich, round mouthfeel with silky tannins and notes of black plum, dark fruits and cedar. We’ll integrated and showing nicely now. Likely to last another 5 years minimum.

Lightly chilled then decanted. Luscious nose of ink, playdough, almonds and purple flowers. Really smooth on the palate with raspberries, a little leather and a salty wet rock mixing together. Really good, very dense but bursting through with life. Drinking nicely now but will go on for many decades.

Mother's Day wine with family. Really dark. Tasty. Some tannins suggest this wine still has 2 - 5 (?) years to go. No other notes, but this was delicious.

The 2012 Pagani from Bedrock continues to impress. Seems like it has barely aged in 4 years since the last bottle. Very complex with dark red fruit and juicy acidity. There is only a hint of secondary characteristics showing at almost 10 years of age. It is likely time to drink up.

Like this a good deal than the 2012 Bedrock Heritage we had recently. This was big but had some balance to it and wasn't overbearing. Great dark fruits.

Timely to see 2 very recent posts. Many similar observations. Sediment, but, nowhere near the muddy 2010. To me it’s missing the usual Pagani descriptors. Alicante seems more present. Plenty of dark fruit aspects for sure, & could go longer, but would not expect improvement. Intensity without the usual inherent notes. Plenty flavorful going down.

2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Pagani Ranch Bottle Comparisons; 4/29/2019-6/19/2020 (Seattle, Washington): Medium ruby – blackberry, plum, black raspberry, dark cherry, black olive, spice, earth; day 2: cola. Medium acid, medium tannins, 14.6% ABV, medium body, medium finish. Upon first drinking, the fruit on the palate was not as strong as the nose would suggest but strengthened a bit on day 2. Has the structure to age, although I like where it is right now.
The darkest and most backwards of the 2012 Heritage offerings. Vines planted in the 1880s. Vinified with native yeasts. 100% French oak barrels, of which 30% were new.

Dark pomegranate red, perfumed Damascus Rose, saturated with extract like a hefty Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Excellent condition. Palate of bing cherries, clove, black cardamom, and cedar in the mouth. Long, sumptuous tannins. Zinfandel, Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, etc. Few other Zinfandel blends have the long hang time (usually harvested early October vs early September) or age so well. Best served at 60-64 F.

Inky black. Dark brooding plum, and currant fruit. Generous acidity with some fine tannins on the finish. Definitely a wine to drink with food- this is no easy sipping cocktail wine.

Last second replacement for another bottle that was corked, so it only got 15 or 20 minutes of air before we started drinking it. Didn't really open up and become more integrated until 30 to 40 minutes later. Unlike a bottle only three months ago, this had a somewhat disappointing lack of dark fruit - it was all strawberries and red raspberries, with touches of cedar and spices. Fairly lean and tannic, but with a good finish. Also, unlike my last bottle, the acidity was off the charts. In a blind tasting, I would guess Chianti. Because of the acidity and firm tannins, this will probably improve with time and should be good for another four or five years.

Extremely dark purple (must have more than a few drops of Alicante). Huge dark fruits on the nose. Blackberry and black raspberry on the palate, along with hints of cedar and various spices. Quite rich, with a solid finish. While not too tannic, it's somewhat of a monster, with plenty of acidity (probably more than a few drops of Petit Sirah, as well). Probably at or near its peak, and it should continue to shine for two or three more years.

Wonderful dark fruit, Mediterranean spice and the rustic characteristics that always seems to appear in Morgan’s Heritage wines. Good texture and depth. While this wine is in a perfect drinking spot, I believe it still has room to evolve. Good juice!

Night 1 via CV (to be updated): I let this sit for an hour before drinking and it needed two. The last sip was a different wine than the first - it needs to unwind, and it’s worth it. Dark fruits but the acidity along with a (small) touch of maturity has meant that this is settling into a more moderate place (still big, but not NFL big). Not a PNP-style zin.
Night 2+ / after lots of air: this has kept its shape well, and the fruit has broadened out - plums and blackberry, with a touch of currant and black pepper. Big, dark and wonderful.

Deep fruit and spice on the nose. Dark tart fruit, berries, vanilla, loads of oak character on the palate. Silky mouthfeel. Plentiful, firm tannin, but quite approachable now, though will likely soften with a few more years. Great acidity.

After about an hour or so of air, this was interesting, but nothing to write home about. It was surprisingly light, with minimal tannins. After another hour or so, it became more complex and (a new one on me) became much more tannic. All kinds of red, black, and blue fruits, along with a weird, almost citrus-like component (pomegranate?). Medium body, with a seriously good finish. I suspect that it needs until 2020 to really show its stuff.

The dark core of this wine is well-balanced against the pomegranate juice-like acids that spring up at the beginning of the taste and also at the end to, along with a bit of tannin, wrap things up. It's not as mercurial as the it was a few years ago, but as it warms, it definitely does change, and the fruit character changes in particular. The wine you start drinking is not the same is the wine you finish with -- but they are both delicious.

Dark crimson in color. 14.6% ABV. Spellbinding nose of red and black fruits, cloves and fresh flowers. Medium to full bodied with juicy acidity. Black cherry, blackberry, raspberry and cocoa on the palate. The finish is long and spicy. Blockbuster Zinfandel from one of the top vineyards in Sonoma. Nicely done. Drink over the next 5-7 years.

Decanted for an hour and drank with a ny strip. First it was juicy and primary but with more air it shows an intense mineral streak that matches it unabashedly purple fruit profile. Taker mulberry, plums and blackberry, make them peferctly ripe, but give them a mouth watering acidity and you have this wine. I like this steak a lot.

Masculine yet full of grace. This field blend Zinfandel based wine is full of excitement. Red and blue fruit mingle with a Mediterranean spice and a surprising touch of peet moss. Still an infant. This wine warrants another two to three years of bottle aging to start hitting full stride.

Big bold black fruit profile dominates, but if you look behind, there are layers of sweet spice, floral, and chocolate. The fruit here is big, but the acid keeps it fresh after an initial wallop on the attack. Med(+) finish leaves nice floral and sour black fruit behind.

Consumed over 2 days, note from day 2. Nose: Highly expressive, dark fruit - black berry and cassis, lavender, sweet tobacco, saddle leather, and dark earth - exceptional complexity and volume. Palate: Full bodied, black fruit and tobacco dominate the front end, an acidic kick joins the up-front fruit through the mid-palate where it's joined by Asian spice and persists through the back-end. Finish: Lengthy sense of ripe dark fruit, spice and earth. This is big and balanced, not showing the harsh edges of the previous tasting.

With 30 minutes in the glass or poured through the Vinturi, this starts with an attack of intense red fruit and juicy acidity. There is black fruit there hiding like a 7th grade boy at a middle school dance. On night two, this was much better with layers of black and red fruit, the intensity and acidity more on the back end prior to a lengthy finish. I think I would decant two hours if I drank soon but I will probably wait two years for my next one.

Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, dark chocolate, mocha, coffee, with gamey undertones and hints of dark fruit - cassis and black berry. Palate: Full bodied, good balance, dark fruit attack with a spice driven mid-palate lift, licorice, tobacco, and a mineral driven rusty component dominate the back-end and linger through a lengthy 30+ second finish. There's a lot of good things going on here but the edges are just a bit rough at the moment - lots of potential here.

Starts flat, but acids build with air time. Lush, complex and rich. Delivers exactly what you want in a Zin in a nearly perfect package. Drink now if you like an energetic and fruit forward wine. Popped and poured. Opens in about 30 minutes and grows from there. Prime time is about 90 minutes in.

Dark red plum color. Fruity acerbic nose with a suggestion of herbs—rosemary. Tart plum on initial entry, then blackberry. Some earthiness farther back under the palate. Tannins are fairly stiff with supporting acid. This suggests to me that additional sideways resting might be beneficial.

Coming along nicely. Aromatics are very intriguing. Very complex with dark red fruit and juicy acidity. None of the varietals stand out and blend to make a great old vine wine. Definitely age worthy. I would place this in the top echelon of the Bedrock old vine Heritage wines.

Here's my problem. While I think this will be quite a bit better in 2-3 years, it's tough to leave alone right now. Cherries, cranberry, citrus, pepper, and tart juicy acidity. Needs 2 plus hours of air.

I agree with earlier notes -- this is a great wine, but still could use 3-5 years. I decanted for 4 hours and it still was opening up throughout the evening. I think the score will creep higher over the next few years; glad I have two more bottles.

Still seems a bit young. There seems to be a lot of potential for this to become a very special wine. Even so, we enjoyed it a lot. Nice red fruit nose, a pleasant fruity nose, and absolutely no defects. Let's give this one another year or two before trying it again.

Really great, though I'd wait 5 more years, if you can't, give it a 3-8 hour decant. Amazing nose which took at least 5 hours to really open up- sweet cherry, violets, perfume. Very dark in glass. Starts with velvety rich Zinfandel berry fruit, then you get a big burst of acid and tannin in a finish then persists for a long time w dark berry and chocolate flavors and a little bit of mint. Awesome, well worth $45, and only going to get better.

Popped and poured, youthful purple/ruby, dark. Forward potpourri of ripe bramble fruits, black cherry, incense, graham cracker, spice and clay. Medium-plus body, excellent concentration. Tart cherry fruits on the palate along with notes of cedar and the herbaceous. The tannins are chewy and somewhat astringent on the lingering close. Could probably use another 3-5+ years but regardless, this is just a delicious wine, sumptuous even.
No formal notes; was the final wine of the evening and didn't get a fair and proper tasting. Four wine drinkers agreed it was very good. Did note that it's a big fruit bomb; very dark color; and a bit tannic still indicating a need for lots more cellar time. Consensus of the group was this needs about 2 more years. *Follow-up note: tasted the 2012 Carlisle Pagani Ranch Zin two days later and the wines are very similar; really shows how the vineyard matters.

From one of the Sonoma Valley's oldest, most distinguished and coolest vineyards. Morgan describes this wine as the most "backward" of his Heritage offerings, but I found this open and outstanding.
Dark ruby red. Fairly expressive red fruit and spice aromas. On the palate, raspberry, a little blueberry, bramble and spice box. Good acidic backbone, great mouthfeel, rich and deep. This baby is going to be something to behold in 6-8 years. Exceptional.

Bedrock weekend with a little Jaco Pastorius travel down memory lane. What a combo. Pagani, Lorenzo and Jaco. These heritage wines are so, so great. Tasty and structured from nose to front palate, mid palate and fantastic finish. Can't go wrong here. Pagani was tasted over three days. All three were fantastic. Last day was like a 97. Lorenzo started out strong with a "I'm not second fiddle here" showing. Good stuff all the way around. If you like a fretless bass, then check out Jaco!

These Bedrock Heritage wines are such beautiful conundrums. Right now, this one is just sheets of fruit, each layer different than the last. It's 5 different Zinfandels in one. I cant imagine what it will be like as it ages, but it's quite fascinating now.
Dark purple. Lighter nose than the Lorenzo's Heritage, with hints of tobacco and barnyard. Nice clear juice on the palate, penetrating with a good acid frame, long finish with tannins showing nicely. Zinfandel dressed as Burgundy ... very nice. 55+11+16+8.

What an absolute beast of a wine. After an hour in the decanter it still wouldn't give up a hint of it's character and was a totally non-descript wine that really could have been anything. After 4 hours it began to unwind a little bit and timidly released a bouquet with some blackberry and menthol notes. In the mouth this is viscous with a tannic grip that hardly lets the fruit peek out at all. From the clues that the wine will give you at this point you can tell this is absolutely loaded with lush dark fruits, but at this point they are all crammed into a package so tight that only bottle age will be able to unwrap it.

Tight, concentrated, and polished. A field blend with complexity, dark fruit and dark chocolate. There is a Rutherford Bench sheen of eucalyptus and tannin that I do not associate with a Zinfandel based blend. I've been drinking a lot of Rhones lately and maybe that's why I taste some Mourvedre meatiness as well. Long finish. Best 2015 forward to ?.

Aromas are explosive upon opening, but I will reserve analysis until after an hour of air time in the decanter. Deep and inky red with purple hues. moderate+ viscosity and showing high concentration. Aromas of high intensity are bold and rich, with jammy blackberry, black plum skin, boysenberry, cherry, black licorice, french oak, black pepper, herbs, vanilla, and violets The palate is rich, bold and exuberant with moderate plus acidity, moderate- tannins and moderate+ mid palate density. Serious weight, with jammy flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, huckleberry chocolates, plum, black licorice, vanilla, pepper and a toasted oak frame. The finish is moderate+ in length and intensity. Drinking exceptionally well but should fully reach another level by 2017. Overall Structured, complex and should definitely improve with time. Big with enough acidity to give it lift on the finish.... Delicious

Tasted at the winter pickup party. This wine is pretty unbelieveable. Top bedrock and overall zin blend tasted for 2013. Right now it just has so many compelling elements. Beautiful nose, fruit profile, complex notes, and total structure. Its hard to describe the fruit density. Its not bordering anywhere near being ripe or too ripe, yet it provides so much depth.

The 2012 Pagani from Bedrock continues to impress. Seems like it has barely aged in 4 years since the last bottle. Very complex with dark red fruit and juicy acidity. There is only a hint of secondary characteristics showing at almost 10 years of age. It is likely time to drink up.

Palate: Full bodied, good balance, dark fruit attack with a spice driven mid-palate lift, licorice, tobacco, and a mineral driven rusty component dominate the back-end and linger through a lengthy 30+ second finish. Starts with velvety rich Zinfandel berry fruit, then you get a big burst of acid and tannin in a finish then persists for a long time w dark berry and chocolate flavors and a little bit of mint. Awesome, well worth $45, and only going to get better.

This wine is a blend of many varietal. Soft, delicious dark red fruit with violet and strawberry flavors, excellent structure, long finish, when I first tasted this wine I was expecting something much different, more deep, dark, earthy, thus the lower score

Good nose of dark fruits, spice, earth and oak. Good mouthfeel with a long finish. I think this will only get better with a few more years.

impatience won out.. had to give it a try, delicious bottle but at this point very young and primary.. needs a good deal of time to move beyond pacifier stage..
(drank over 2 days... fair amount of air time)

Very dark purple-red color. Oak and red fruit aromas. Nice acidity and balanced structure with a core of raspberry-dark cherry fruit. Still youthful and somewhat primary but it tastes great at this stage. Seems slightly outside the spectrum of other recent Bedrock old vine releases.

A complete wine, very expressive and well balanced. An exceptional expression of Pagani Ranch.

Dark aromas of blackberry, black cherry, pepper, spice, black currant, earth and tar. The flavors match; deep and complex. Medium acidity, medium+ tannins, medium finish. Drinkable now especially with a day of air but I look forward to seeing how this drinks with a few more years of age.

Nose dominated by clove, black fruit, and some ridiculous floral notes. Palate is rich but with balanced acid. Black pepper, Black fruit, and other sweet spice. Creamy mouthfeel despite the acidity. Long pleasant finish. Really nice.

2nd bottle. What a difference a short rest makes! This is starting to settle down nicely. Lush dark fruit and a pop of acidity, tannins are firmly in place but at this point that contributes to the whole package. Can't wait to see where this goes in a few years...if I can keep my hands off.

Popped and poured, initially a little tight although not overly big, good balance, noticeable oak and medium red fruit. After some time in glass the fruit really started coming through, some pepper, black cherry, and ripe strawberry with rhubarb. Clean fruit, very good.

Young, but had to give it a go. Bright fruits. Red berry and bramble fruit. Nice spiciness & a hint of leather. Should be interesting to revisit over the next few years. Now I'm wishing I'd had it with a backyard burger.

Aromas of high intensity are bold and rich, with jammy blackberry, black plum skin, boysenberry, cherry, black licorice, french oak, black pepper, herbs, vanilla, and violets
The palate is rich, bold and exuberant with moderate plus acidity, moderate- tannins and moderate+ mid palate density.
Delicious

Bedrock Pickup Tasting (Sonoma): Wow! This is already a beautiful wine. Probably the best young Pagani I have ever had. Lovely aromas and flavors of deep dark fruits that are so well balanced against the acid, oak, and tannic structure. Silky smooth texture and a long finish.
