Friday Double Blind Tasting $60+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Opaque core with dull violet rim; kalamata olives leap from the glass, green peppercorns, mushroom, smoky granite, wilted violets, powerful and extracted, whole cluster, a little mousey and biological on the finish which reminds of either Clape or Maxime Graillot; called 2012 Graillot Guiraude- yes!

The deep ruby red almost purple does not suggest ten years in the bottle. Dark red and blue fruit with peppery and bacon notes on the nose. Fruit notes, acidity and tannins keep the palate alive. Very enjoyable now but has many years left.

Alas, this was my only bottle. A lovely and thoughtful wine that appealed to the taste buds and to the grey matters.
Ruby red, the nose is a heady mix of white pepper, red fruits, wet earth and herbs. Body followed the same flavour profile with herbal notes and dark fruits. Fresh acidity keeps things fresh and long finish with a hint of green leaf at the very end.
An elegant and suave wine. Drink now to 2029+

Nose of fresh red fruits on a background of blueberries. Eucalyptus, lavender, rosemary, moist earth, smoked (bacon?). Mineral. Super fresh mouthfeel, cranberry, red flowers, orange peel. White pepper. Medium and velvety tannins. Medium, well-integrated alcohol, medium-high acidity, medium-long to long finish. Elegant. Still 5 or 10 years to its peak.

Hostesaft, blåbær og jordbær, samt et lite snev av skogbunn på duft. Men ikke veldig utviklet. Deilig frisk i anslaget, og med fin fruktfylde også. Umami i munnfølelsen. Flott tanninstruktur. Snerper ennå litt i ettersmaken. Herlig vin!

A tad bit hairy initially, and then slowly softening to dark fruit, very earthy, strong finish, mushroom and order floor notes. Fantastic w truffle cheese. This could sleep a bit longer but it’s our last bottle!

The structure is softening, but this has not developed secondary complexities and comes across as basic and unevolved. Hopefully a few more years of cellaring will improve this wine.

Decanted around 6:15 pm and enjoyed a few hours later at Zest Szechuan on West 39th. Initially, some red fruits on the palate that turn to dark fruits, a bit tarter than expected, with some bright, lick-smacking acidity. With air, this was all dark Syrah blue/black plummy-berry fruit, a very smooth palate and really pleasing texture. Paired well with roast duck, of course. Very satisfying wine tonight. Drinking very well with a good decant, but also seems to have the acidity to go long in the cellar.

C'est bon mais est-ce meilleur que son Croze régulier? Une syrah typique du rhône. Corps assez léger, très équilibré, acidité franche. Deux jours après l'ouverture le vin avait un peu perdu de son attrait. Un millésime difficile?

Bought at Flatiron Wines in SF. Drank at Kin Khao in SF. Nothing remarkable except that this has a body and structure to it. Not sure if it was the cluster but definitely a syrah style that needs more study.

Pretty tight for the first couple of hours, dark and deep but not very expressive. Then softens and unravels at two hours, black fruit, not much blue, so lovely and round and balanced with a cashmere-like texture. Notes of pepper and sweet blue fruits on the finish. Not much fat at all, really primary but so caressingly smooth in the mouth. Further unwinds overnight, the tannins are more apparent but grainy, seemingly breaking down already. Bottle 1 of 12.

Bretty nose. Better palate, with blue and red fruits and some floral notes, violets. Nice fine texture, not as tannic as expected and also lacking the savory notes I typically find in Graillot. Probably will show these in time.

The densest, darkest looking of the 3 French Syrahs tonight. Black olive aromatics. Medium to fuller bodied. Pretty young and tannic with predominant olive/herb flavors and rough finish. Much better than the regular cuvee but this needs at least a few years to become more civilized. More in the mold of Cornas than either of the St. Josephs are.

Difficult vintage. Very pretty dark ruby. Somewhat medicinal nose with muddled cherry, iodine, and peat moss. Not much happening mid palate albeit nicely weighted. Short, somewhat tart, finish.

Pink edge. Very dark and complex color. Leather, dust and liquorice on the nose. Classic and very nice balanced nose. Palate is an explosion of taste. Wonderful, fruity and spicy. Jumps around in your mouth. Must have more bottles to follow this wine over the next 5-10 years.

Open, powerful and packed with animal notes, blood and black fruit. Great acidity and balance. 5 more years in cellar, no problem.
