The Columbia Group - Two and a Half Years Later (Our Place): A blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Gris. It's been six years since I lasted tasted this wine. Another blind tasting in which I didn't spot it. Yellow colour with pungent piss on a nettle and blackcurrant leaf aromas with lime cordial, apricot, mango and papiya. Lots of intensity, a wine that demands good food, hard work on its on.
Decanted for 30 mins to start. Drank over the next two hours. Fresh pasta golden in the decanter, and the same tone, but paler and more limpid in the glass. Creamy, lanolin nose, layered with meyer lemon, fresh mushroom, egg shell and fresh cut grass carried on a light breeze. Full bodied, huge fleshy yellow fruit extract, tingly acidity and high phenolics. Rich, fleshy yellow plum flavours, preserved lemon, egg cream, oyster shell and a touch of fresh herbs on the palate. Very round and mouth filling, with a long, lingering finish that is wonderfully fruity and decidedly crisp. Wow! This is really, really good wine!

Popped and poured. This is a lighter yellow wine. On the nose, I get papaya, spring flowers, and lanolin. In the mouth, this is tangy and mid-weight, with some citrus notes. The finish continues the theme with some lime aspects lingering for 20-25 seconds. Overall, this is a distinctive wine that reflects its region. At the same time, I wasn’t overwhelmed with this wine today. I hope my remaining bottles show better later. 91 points.

Predominantly Sauvignon blanc with 5% each of Sauvignon gris and Sémillon. Nose of peach, grapefruit, lemon, grass open up into some tertiary aromas of vanilla, cream, and a hint of smoke. The palate shows tremendous acidity and some white flower notes on the finish. What an elegant, well-balanced wine. I only wish I had more.

Light silvery yellow with greenish glints. Fairly grassy on the nose. Seems like a higher proportion of Sauvignon Blanc in this vintage. Grapefruit zest, limestone and slight lemon oil on the nose as well. Initial taste is crisp and squeaky clean. Yellow plum, yellow citrus, light fresh cut grass, and then it fills out and finishes on a creamier, riper yellow plum, fleshy note with a hint of lanolin. Builds from light, bright and fresh at the front to fuller, rounder and creamier at the back and then finally ends with tingly citric acidity on the finish. Quite a long finish actually. This is clearly high quality and quite complex as demonstrated by its stunning metamorphosis in your mouth. Very interesting and excellent wine!

Enjoyed with escargot and macadamia nut encrusted black grouper....large grapefruit front end from the Sauvignon Gris, overpowers the Semillon. But the creamy mouthfeel component from the Semillon feels awesome on the back end. A very well made, quality wine from the Cathiards.

Lovely straw colour. i found the oak slightly dominated the nose. The palate had less oak influence, with melon, pineapple and green apple. Very luscious and appealing, but I think at this price point it is a bit too soft. The 2015 version is significantly better in my view

As soon as I poured the wine into the glass the smell of freshly cut grass and green tea invaded my nose. I say good at least the nose is there and it does not disappoint!
The color of the wine is very particular with a yellow color with silver rim. It is not crystalline because there is a small white hue very intriguing.
The nose after 20min shows smells of cut grass, green tea, lychee ginger and gooseberries.
On the palate the wine has a nice acidity with a lemony attack but that quickly turns into a taste of peaches, fennel, ginger, green tea and radish!
It's full and slightly viscous in the mouth and the finish is very long with a salty butter taste.
What a beautiful example of what Bordeaux can produce in a year that in principle was not good for the reds but this white has really benefited from this cold vintage. Based on 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Semillion and 5% Sauvignon Gris it is not surprising that this wine received 96pt from WS and ranked number 9 in 2016. I do not often dwell on ratings but in this case I think they were spot on.
This wine still has a lot of acidity and easily can last several years but it drinks wonderfully right now.
PS: I have a cold and it may be that I did not give this wine the max of what it can offer
Pale citrine yellow with platinum highlights. Fresh light ginger, green tea, fresh cut grass, goose berries and oyster shells on the nose. Medium weight in the mouth. Brisk, grapefruit zest acidity. Quite long slightly oily finish. Quite brisk and juicy, lots of herbal yellow fruit flavour. Mouth watering and tingly on the tongue. Gets a bit creamier and more of a lanolin note comes out with time as it warms up in the glass.

Classic Sauvignon blanc notes: grass, underipe white pear, gooseberry, green apple all almost perfectly balanced with a laser like acidity. Delicious. Textbook contrast to New Zealand Sauv blanc almost completely lacking any tropical notes. Maybe a bit overpriced, but really nice. Super long finish.
What a pleasing luscious white.....loads of grapefruit on the nose with green apple but not so much that it deflects the taste profile. It is subtle with a clean palate. The Semillon rules here! High price point but for a special treat, quite nice!
Addendum: left out how nice the mouthfeel/creaminess was on this wine. Very, very good!

It let the guava and sharp sauvingon blanc tones to come forward. No hint of oak and then the laser like palate but the length was freaking amazing...after one big slug it went on and on and at least a minute later my salivary glands were still in over drive
Oak still noticable but still nicely moderated and not overwhelming. Good acidity and nice citrus notes. Lean, crisp, but nicely complex. Crisp finish with nice length. Would buy again.

Deeper yellow, more canary. Still bright and crystal clear. Riper, richer nose, slightly creamy, more lanolin, less herbaceousness. Full entry, more lanolin, more grapefruit acidity, slightly more oak but well integrated. Slightly grassy note high up at the back of your mouth. Very rich, very long crisp lingering finish. Was an excellent wine to pair with poached halibut!

What a tight, wound white! Intense white grapefruit, green apple and sour lemon. This is a clean, bright multi-dimensional white bordeaux. But it needs more time to calm down and smooth itself out around the edges. I'd hold this for 3-5 years before opening my next one.

2017 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/16/2017-10/25/2017 (New York City, NY): Light yellow in color but not light with respect to intensity, this blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Gris offers a bouquet of white flowers, Meyer lemon, coconut, stone fruits and vanilla. Medium-bodied, vibrantly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic and with flavors mirroring the nose, it delivers richness but does not relinquish its excellent tension. Aging in 50% new oak gives the wine dimension but does not overpower the fruit or floral elements. Beautifully dense on the mid-palate, it goes on to finish with impressive length. This has the fruit and structure to show well for at least another decade. Drink now-2027.

Popped and poured. This is a medium-yellow wine. On the nose, I get gooseberry, some intense talc, citrus tree, stonefruit, and straw. In the mouth, this is fresh and zippy, with lime and some modest oak-based vanilla notes. The finish is fresh and draws a crisp line around the entire enterprise. Overall, this is refreshing and poised. It is slightly expensive for what's in the bottle, but the quality and effort is apparent. Glad to have more bottles. 93 points.

Crystal sparkly clear canary yellow. Lemon oil, lanolin and hint of butterscotch and fresh mown grass on the nose. Quite full and round in the mouth. Beautifully smooth and rich with a crisp finish. Same flavours throughout as on the nose only more intense and added cumquat. A powerful and assertive white, by no means shy or insipid. Excellent!

An energetic Sauvignon Blanc that provides some complexity and class - but not quite as much as I would expect at this price point. Silver in color, medium in body, nose of wet grass, lime, and flint. Tastes of grapefruit, lemon, gooseberry, and almond, with a zippy and acidic finish. 13% alcohol. I like a bit more roundedness in a White Bordeaux - and maybe this will calm down in a year or two - but it is a tart bundle of nervous energy right now. I'm going to hold my other bottle for a few more years.

Could EASILY be a cheap sauv blanc from CA. Quite disappointing for the price tag. The fruit is clean and pure but I'm just keeping it real folks. Be honest with yourselves.
This was tasted at a wine retailer tasting walk-in event. A wine nerd next to me was saying 'Oh wow! Citrus... lemon zest.... just fabulous.' Yea... $12 Kendall Jackson fabulous that is. Please believe me when I say this tastes none different than a $10-20 sauv blanc.

Dinner with Friends (Home of the Slywka's): Lovely nose of apricot, pineapple, cut grass, lime and mineral. Wine is really unique with a lot going on. Flavors of mineral, guava, blood orange and like this sour patch kid thing going on. Sounds kind of weird but it had this crazy sour but sweet thing happening. Ended with a 30-35 second finish. Been a while since I've had the regular bottling since I've been drinking the second label. Not as good as the great 2005 but this is a killer bottle.

Fine White Wine Tasting (Oinoscent): The nose is shows a bit of flint, lemon, lime zest, some stone fruit notes. Very impressive in the palate, extrovert, nice acidity, med to high intensity, lime, lemon, tropical fruit, pineapple, lemon leaves, very long finish elegantly framed by beautiful oak. Outstanding quality, great to drink now
Oily and perfumed nose, with guavas, grapefruits, pineapples, and precious wood; lots of citrus and tropical fruits on the palate, grapefruits, guavas, pineapples, and minerals; very complex and long finish; 93-94 points at this stage.
Tasted blind. Pale straw with expressive aromoas of blackcurrant leaf and some smokiness. The flavours on entry coat your mouth with pineapple fruit but then the zesty flavours kick in with grapefruit and lime on a very long finish. This is class and stood head and shoulders above the Bordeaux whites tasted alongside it.

FANTASTIC. I thought to myself, oh great, we're at a Bordeaux tasting event, I guess I better at least make a token show of trying a white. This one blew my socks off. Peach! Peach and peach! The nose has some Sauv Blanc characteristic grapefruit and cat pee notes, but the stone fruit pushes through the din....and then bursts through on the palate. Amazing stuff. Can't remember the last time I was so excited about a white wine.

UGC 2016 (Chicago, IL): Again this is one of those estates which could easily rise above the boringness of the 2013 Bordeaux blancs, decides to, but then drags everything back down to and below that base level by adding way too much oak. I'm betting that the second wine (which was not poured) is much, much better.

2013 Premier. More than Bdx (Vila Viniteca - Madrid): A serious effort for a 2013 Blanc sample. Aromas of meringue come alone after leaving the wine to catch some precious temperature. How can it be served so iced? On the palate the performance is acid but at the soft side. Liked.
Me gustó.

Deliciously well-balanced, good acidity with floral notes and a hint of cedar in a lovely velvet texture. Not stereotypically Sauvignon-Blanc grassy in the least. Paired well with sushi.

Has a light citrus element, with a touch of oak, minerals, and hint of smoke, all nicely balanced. A terrific wine for the money.

Bordeaux UGC 2013 (Singapore): Just like the Pape CLement seems also a bit closed, good complexity and balance but does not have the length of the Pape Clement in this vintage. 91-92

Tasting Bordeaux 13-12-11-10 in Hong Kong (Visiting Vinexpo 2016, I finally tasted Bordeaux 2013s from bottle, plus earlier vintages): Very pleasing white peach flavors and aromatics, a touch of white pepper, smooth and full bodied on the palate, which is juicy. Not as statuesque as Domaine de Chevalier, but a darn good white!

One of the richer textured white Bordeaux wines of the vintage, the flamboyant, vanilla, spice, pineapple, white peach, meyer lemon and grapefruit aromatic display is completed with the display of luscious, white fruits and slightly honeyed, citrus in the finish

25 years of the Cathiards at Smith Haut Lafitte: all magnum verticals (Château Smith Haut Lafitte): This is brisk and savory with a lively palate. Full bodied yet vivacious. High flavor intensity. Long finish. Is it a bit New World like? Perhaps. But it has flamboyance and I can drink this with oysters. Lacks the full body of, say, 2011, but darn delicious. No denying that.

Liked.
Me gustó.
