Very much like my first bottle. This is the 2nd and last of my stash. It's resolved and better after 2 hours of air than at the pnp. Problem is......it's more cab like than zin, at this point, as there is only a faint zin spice component present at this time. Nice but probably 1-2 years, too old, for those who really buy this zin for what it is.......

The oldest of these zins I've encountered. Picked up at auction a few months ago and pnp'd to go along with this evening's pizza. The initial 15 minutes this gives no hint of its age. It's still overtly big and juicy and ripe.....but this quickly changes to a more settled in version of its zin self. The fruit is still spicy and dark and primarily black and the acidic backbone is still strong so this has quite a while to go yet. Maybe a tad flat or one dimensional with its fruit on its integrated mouthwatering ending, but still pretty good and at my cost of $47/bottle, quite fair.

Consumed over two days. This wine should be decanted first as it responds well to air. The nose consisted of brambly red fruits, cedar and baking spices. Alcohol is high at 15.8%, however this medium body Zin masks it pretty well. It's a well made wine with a good backbone of fresh acidity and well balanced tannins. On the palate I picked up cherries, raspberries, cigar box and signature HM pepper. Very nice length on the smooth finish.
This is approachable now, but give it a couple more years and it will sing.

Crimson in color. 15.8% ABV. Gorgeous nose of brambly red fruits, baking spices and pepper. Medium body with exquisite acidity and exceptional balance. Elegant and surprisingly restrained. Cherries, raspberry liqueur, blood orange and Howell Mountain pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Delicious Zinfandel but lacking the vibrancy and jammy fruit I often find in this wine. Best over the next 1-2 years.

Rather harsh and hot with alot of VA on opening with not much fruit showing. Once it had some air and opened up, the deep flavors, and unified smooth body came through.

Perhaps the best zin I've had - or at least in recent memory. Loads of wild berry fruit without a hint of jammy-ness. Bramble and pepper on the palate, and a good tannic backbone. Plenty more years left.

Zin that doesn’t quite get to the zenith, but has depth and great mouth feel. Not a bad Thanksgiving day quaff to battle the variety of flavors vying at the same time. Dark fruits and flint on the nose. Initial cherry yields to plums and finally leather grit.

We both found this totally read to drink. It was, quite surprisingly, ready to go on pop and pour. Developed beautifully through the first night and was even better the second.
There is big black and blue fruit here. On the nose there is pepper and berries. On the palate the wine is big and rich and deep and layered. It's compelling and the finish lasts for 45 seconds. Really rocking now, and there more than enough structure here for this wine to drink well for five years or more. Likely double that.

Peppery nose. Tight at the first taste, definitely young and a bit jammy. Don't pick up a lot of tannin - just closed. An hour of air time helped, but not a lot. This is the second bottle of this wine I've had. I opened the first shortly after I received it when first released and was more impressed with its personality then. My guess, and hope, is that this zin will be better in a couple years with some additional cellar time.

Outpost Wines (Angwin/Napa): Tasted at Outpost alongside the 2014 Zinfandel, 2014 Howell Cabernet, and 2014 True Cabernet.
This 2013 Zinfandel was more improved since I last had it nearly a year ago. This had been double decanted three hours before consumption. The nose exhibited powerful black berry and raspberry aromas (much more aromatic than the 2014), but on the palate were still some heavier tannins to deal with before accessing some of the red and black raspberry flavors on the palate. Still a bit acidic and alcoholic, this begs for even more time in the cellar in my opinion.
Not undrinkable by any means, but for those sitting on a stash, I would actually suggest sitting another year at least. Like some Turley Zins, this little powerhouse may take a few solid years to really settle down. Hopefully the fruit will be able to hold up. Wait until after 2018.
The 2014 Zinfandel was much more accessible than the 2013. The 2013 was clearly more powerful and intense. Came off as two different wines and were interesting expressions of their respective vintages.
90-91? points for now.

Blackfruit, pepper, underbrush and oak on the nose. Full bodied wine but not overdone at all (like when you get prunes or raisins on some zins, which i personally HATE.) med+ finish with a spicy kick to it. While not a long term ager, this will probably hit it's stride in about 5 years or so. Fun, tasty wine.

Tasted at Outpost alongside the 2013 Howell Mountain Cabernet and Immigrant, which both blew this Zinfandel out of the water.
The Zinfandel was extremely tight, tannic (not sharp tannins, but more in the form of a wafting alcohol toward the back of the mouth), and not showing any core fruit at the moment. Not an unpleasant drink by any means, but fairly muted and flat, especially from what one might expect from a Zinfandel.
I see this going one of two ways in 3-5 years: Either blossoming out of its tight shell and exposing its hidden fruit, or veering straight into the realm of grain alcohol and flat fruit. Really hard to say for me, but I don't expect the former to occur to its full fruition, even with time. This reminded me of some of those young Turley Zinfandels that are almost undrinkable in their youth; so you cellar them for 5 years and either are pleasantly surprised, or left with an astringent and somewhat flavorless disappointment. It seems like the Outpost Zinfandel will fall someplace in-between the "Eh, not bad after all" and "Ugh, I was afraid that would happen" arenas. Unfortunately, not something I will likely revisit. 88-90?

Megamoon Part I: Napa; 10/13/2015-10/16/2015 (Napa Valley California): So coming off a tasting at Dunn this was a very different wine. Seems like something that's meant to be drunk young (almost now), very fruit forward. A bit of pepper towards the mid-back palette which balances it out. And nice structure from the tannins which were fairly mild.
