Very expressive nose with plums, cured meat, dried flowers. Smoky palate, medium+ acidity, plums and black currants, black pepper, plush tannins still a bit chalky, and then a long, savory finish with notes of oak. Extremely well-balanced, and better than my last bottle a couple years ago - seems more developed now but still youngish and fresh. Excellent.

This well-cellared bottle was decanted off its sediment and then decanted a second time through a Vinturi aerator. A medium red/garnet blend of 55% Grenache, 35% Mourvèdre and 10% other permitted varietals, it was serially sampled over a three-hour period. Flaunting an attractive aromatic array of red plum fruit that is accented with notes of garrigue, tobacco, white pepper and mulling spices, it is a medium-bodied Châteauneuf with beautifully integrated tannins, wood and alcohol (14.3%). The flavors mirror the nose and are pervasive on the mid-palate and lengthy finish. This is ready for prime-time drinking and should reach its fifteenth birthday with grace. Give it an hour of more of air if possible. Drink now-2029.

Chateauneuf du pape tasting (at my home): Aroma: Fruit: The nose is initially dominated by aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as blackberry, raspberry, and cherry. Spice: As the wine opens up, notes of Provençal herbs, garrigue, and black pepper emerge, adding complexity and depth. Floral: Some reviewers also detect hints of violets and other floral notes. Palate: Full-bodied: The wine is medium to full-bodied with a rich and velvety texture. Balanced: Despite its richness, the wine is well-balanced with vibrant acidity that keeps it fresh and lively. Tannins: The tannins are present but ripe and well-integrated, providing structure and grip without being harsh. Flavor: On the palate, the fruit flavors from the nose come through again, along with additional notes of licorice, leather, and earth. Finish: Long and lingering: The finish is long and lingering, with the spice and fruit flavors echoing on the palate for a long time. Overall: The 2014 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a stunning wine that is both powerful and elegant. It is a perfect example of what this great appellation can produce. It is still young and will continue to evolve over the next few years, but it is already drinking beautifully.

Fresh, juicy, energetic fruit on an elegant and silky frame. Raspberry, kirsch, minerality, white pepper, sawdust, garrigue, orange peel, and gorgeous perfumed, floral aromatics. Drinking well with pnp, but still has a couple of years at its prime.

Brought this to a themed tasting at Tunglok Teahouse with my wine mates. Theme of the evening: Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines, 2014 or older. Wine was decanted for 1.5 hours before serving.
Purple in colour with notes of chewy candy, longyan, bubblegum, candy floss, with a touch of funk. Made in a elegant style.
Pronounced ripe red fruits in the glass. Shining and outstanding.
Opened 2hrs before drinking. Absolutely singing with roast lamb (but also before). So smooth, integrated, with an enveloping nose, backed by a palate of cherry, cedar, and just a hint of funk. Could drink this all day.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS: Clos des Papes (By AH): Creamy bouquet which is still a bit locked, but shows red berries, cherries and garrigue. On the palate very juicy cherries and red berries, good acidity and light weight tannin. Elegant Burgundy style wine.
Opened this bottle at my sister-in-law's place for a Christmas celebration with the family.
Brownish red in colour with notes of ash, berries, aged leather, dried herbs, aromatic wood, and aged spices.
Very elegant and balanced with some rustic notes. Though relatively young, this wine is in its drinking window and will not fail to impress. Will continue to drink well for the next 5 to 10 years.

Lovely CdP from a cooler vintage - which I probably tend to prefer in CdP. Elegant, balanced. Very good, but perhaps not nearly as good as when younger? Perhaps just a touch short of freshness and acidity? I will drink my last bottle sooner rather than later. Paired beautifully with a roasted leg of lamb with Provencal herbs.

Diminished nose and fruit since taste in 2017. Midweight, feminine and elegant. Red fruits, some tertiary notes. Balanced, leaning acidic. Medium length finish.

medium ruby colored with faint bricking. a hint of caramel plus cherry kirsch and raspberry fruits on the nose. hints of alcohol and herb are there. palate is medium plus bodied and smooth with integrated acidity and alcoholic het. savory raspberry fruit remains though somewhat muted and soured. plenty of tasty garrigue. some damp stony earth there. roasted red pepper smolders in the throat on the long finish. possibly past peak or maybe just awkward in between on the way to tertiary. either way still good but not quite as impressive as the last bottle.

Took a chance on this as I knew 2014 is an early-drinking vintage; boy did that turn out to be correct, as this bottle was completely ready (didn't really needs its brief decant), and in fact didn't quite have the stuffing to deal with our lamb pie with Middle Eastern spicing. Silky and elegant, red-fruited and beautifully floral... sounds great, but it didn't have enough about it to grab the drinker's attention. Perhaps it would have been better to drink younger, with more grip, or older, with more tertiary development?
Fruit comes first, maybe cherries, and then garrigue, very herbal. Agree with those who compare it to a Burgundy, the vegetal finish and the light touch with the tannins. Drunk with pork belly roast and all the better for it. Slow-oxed in bottle, best after 3-4 hours.

What a wine from a less than ideal vintage! Fresh nose of cherries and blackberries with hints of aromatic wood. Great balance, fresh acidity, blackberries, plums, dark cherries, espresso, tobacco… then integrated tannins and salndalwood. Young and fresh but extremely elegant. Such a great wine already - will age for a few more years but already in a great spot.
i hr decant. Seems to be reaching peak. Complex bouquet of herbs, flowers, fruit. Ample red fruit on the palate, soft tannins, complex herbal notes. Well structured and well balanced. Classic and drinking extremely well.

Decanted and enjoyed 30 minutes later. Purple/red color. On nose, baking spice, red raspberry, tart cherry, saline and cola. On palate, medium body, medium acidity/tannins and very long finish - layered palate feel with flavor profile consistent with nose ex. cola & and saline. 92-93 range.

I wish more CdP were like this! Quite elegant! Not overdone, not jammy, not oaky, not a bruiser. White pepper, red fruits, orange zest, spices, leather. Fine tannins, good acidity. Vibrant and refreshing. Paired incredibly well with lamb shanks. I assume this was a somewhat cooler vintage? Very sucessful wine. I think I’ll revisit in 3 yrs or so.
Lighter color cloudy maroon; nose shows a more challenging year but Clos des Papes comes through with a glorious example, white pepper galore, blueberries that are so sweet and memorable, meaty, leather, fig, loads of spice, many commented on its reminding them of Syrah (especially a dark and brooding Chave) even though there is little in the blend, fresh complex and so accessible, this should not be a really long lived vintage but what a joy to drink now, need to get some of this.

Deep garnet in color and a little brown at the edges.Red fruits, cherries and strawberries on the nose. Very smooth mouthfeel with light tannins. Still very good but this bottle was starting to show its age. My score 90.

This is an example of how a CdP can be medium-light weight, elegant and still earthy. Red cherry fruit, not jammy, with earth and spice. I've always liked this producer, and 2014 does not disappoint. Good now but still on the upswing.

The most elegant and classy of several CdPs. The whole package, with an underlying femininity. Red and purple berries on the bouquet and palate, along with dark cacao, light roast coffee beans, and jerky. Valour-like texture, savory, and earthy. Expansive and gritty, with powdery tannin showing at the back. Evocative finish of exceptional length. 95-96.

Red-brown color. After 1 hr earthy nose with bright fruit aromas. Soft and delicate on the palate, bright red fruits with lavender and other herbal notes, plus a touch of cocoa. Perfect acid, well balanced. Very quaffable right now. Should hold, but may not improve much.

I probably didnt decant this as long as it deserved to be. It seemed to be comign into itself more after an hour, but probably recommend giving it two hours without the cork just to let it really grow. Pretty good value for money though!

Wow, what a great bottle of wine! 90 minute decant. Cherries, with pepper and vanilla undertones. Red berries and lavender. Well balanced with a smooth, velvety finish. In a great drinking window right now but this wine will go the distance and should easily have another five to ten years to go.

Sour black cherry fruit notes with hints of raspberry on the finish. Secondary flavors of kirsch, lavender and white pepper. Even after a two hour decant, not the most expressive Clos des Pape I ever tasted but still very good.

Nose: The nose is deep, balanced, and savory with black cherries, black raspberries, licorice, violets, garrigue, lavender, tobacco, leather, plum sauce, and black pepper.
Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with well integrated, medium acidity and youthful, medium+ tannins. The structure is certainly youthful, but it isn’t overpowering while it is backed up by black cherries, black raspberries, licorice, violets, lavender, leather, plum sauce, and black pepper.
Overall: This is a wonderful, young Clos des Papes. There is so much to like about it already as there is a great amount of depth and savoriness that is extremely enticing. It is still on the youthful side, but everything is well in balance at this time and it feels like it may well be an earlier drinking Clos des Papes.

Decanted over 2+ hours. Medium diffused ruby-garnet in colour. Nose of sweet raspberry jam with kirsch and a touch of cedar. On the palate, there are notes of black cherries and cherry pits along with dark olives and fresh chewing tobacco with some dark minerals. Medium-full bodied with a medium+ finish. Great stuffing in this for the medium haul.

Bottle ?, CT tasting note 4 of the covid19 pandemic. This 2014 Clos des Papes drank more like a true CdP than our first bottle 2 years ago. There was a tartness at first that gave way after 1 hr in the decanter, was traditional CdP raspberry and nuanced spice thereafter. Pretty good for the vintage, squarely in its drinking window now.

The character of this wine is very refined and Burgundian. If you were not aware of this, it might be even a surprise to hear that this wine is from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The mouthfeel of this wine is relatively silky and soft, but the acidity gives liveliness and structure. The wine offers beautiful aromas and flavors of red berries and flowers. In my opinion this wine is ready to drink now, but it will naturally evolve in the coming years.
The wine was drank during a long meal with 2 other powerful CdP:s of the vintage 2014. In this context, this wine was maybe not able to shine in the best possible way.
Decanted for almost 2 hours. Aromas of lavender, roasted herbs, cherry, raspberry and hint of blueberry. Flavors of cherry tart, raspberry, herb, blueberry and touch of mocha. Ends with a cherry infused finish of 30+ seconds. Not a top vintage but this is drinking pretty well.

Solid right away upon pop and pour. After about 30 minute decant, one of the best wines I've ever had. Perfumed nose. Complexity, balance, elegant. If this is not one of the strongest vintages, I can't imagine how good the best vintages are.

This bottle was most likely spoiled. Murky when poured. Very sharp nose (!?) of vinegar, mostly. This was unlike other bottles I've had of wine from Domaine Clos des Papes (although this was the first time I've tasted this vinatage). Did not improve over 3 hours in glass, somewhat regularly checked.
Animiert durch eine tasting note haben wir heute einen Clos de Papes geöffnet. Die erste Flasche einer 6er Kiste. Wunderbar in der Nase. Holz und ein Hauch Vanille. Viel Frucht, etwas Stachelbeeren. Im Gaumen vollmundig und grosse Länge. Pflaume, Brombeeren. Wunderbare Säure, samtige Tannine. Trotz geringem Alter trinkreif.
Dazu ein gegrilltes Tomahawk und Rosmarinkartoffeln. :) Traumhaft!
Vinosphere (Town Hall, Sydney): Slight cork taint, cream, wood glue, biscuit, ripe red fruit, a little oxidised with that same cork taint on the palate. FLAW

Clos des Papes Vertical: A few conclusions: 1) The wines showed consistently on a good to very good level. 2) The wines have great ageing potential - the 1975 was still singing. 3) If you like almost port wine like ripeness (and high alcohol) you find great wines in the 2000s, for my palate this is just too much (the 2007 vintage with 100 points from the Parker team got a pretty low score from me). 4) More recent vintages show less ripeness, more balance and elegance (although less so in really hot years like in 2015). 5) The 2016 is exceptionally good. Definitely a must buy. Probably the most promising CDP I've had so far. 6) Clos des Papes offers good value for money.
TN: From a vintage with much less pedigree and that shows in terms of depth and precision. Nevertheless, for me this was on par with the much better 2015 vintage as it had no heat and no problem with too much ripeness. Minerality, smoke, rather dark fruit profile, floral aromas on the nose and palate. A very dark wine with smooth tannins and a fresh frame which drinks very well today. For sure one to order from restaurant wine lists every day (no decant necessary).

Coravined. Drank 1/2 bottle..... Still a baby, but for a 2014, this is a super wine. Very Burgundian in that it is not heavy on the palate. Fruity nose with good acidity. Medium tannins. Notes of red currant, light stone fruit. Some nice leather too.

Tasted blind. No decant but 3h slow-ox. Aromatics quickly led me to CDP which was spot on, although the 2014 vintage showed less body and concentration than the hotter, riper years that followed. Menthol sprang to mind first, followed by some gamey flavours, broad range of berries, herbal notes and mint. Good level intenstiy overall with fresh red fruit, grape juice and herbal tea aromatics on the palate. Nice complexity and good balance with a round and decent length finish form this into a really good Clos des Papes that is already perfectly ready to drink - and for some maybe even preferrable at this stage to the stellar but much more concentrated 2007.

Mostly agree with CT here. Very Burgundian like. Maybe this is what Grenache is like in a lighter more elegant style? Well it does not matter I guess its just so enjoyable.
I simply love this expression of Clos des Papes. It’s so fresh and pure with abundant red fruit and a healthy hillside of garrigue. So much tension. Just lovely. I find myself contemplating why I should hold my remaining bottle when these are drinking so beautifully right now.

Slow oxed for two hours before serving. Nose had perfume, violets, black pepper, lychee wood, herbs and spices which reminded me of a Rayas. Palate was Burgundian with sweet purple fruit and pepper while the tiny bit of heat in the finish gave hint to its cdp terroir. Light, silky and elegant for cdp but it suited my Burgundian palate very much. Surprisingly accessible but certainly age-worthy too. Great qpr. 92-93

This is my kind of CDP, wonderful mix of dark red fruits, spice, herbs, earthiness and florals, juicy deliciousness to the dark red fruit on the palate, slight gaminess note adds complexity with elegant tannins that are well integrated and surprisingly high acidity and a wonderful long finish... sadly this was my only bottle fwiw I just looked up where to buy more and placed an order!

This wine was quite a surprise for Clos des Papes CdP: something like a pinot noir and light (as others have noted here). There was red fruit and some earthiness on the palate, but overall soft and restrained. We probably could have given it more air and time than the 90 min decant. Again, the wine seemed unusual for the producer, but it was enjoyable with food and OK value for the price. It will be interesting to see the longevity of wines from this vintage.

Definitely lighter Style. Cola and raspberry and red cherry. Hint of blackberry. Some herbal and mint on the Finish. It ain't blind, this one guy that guesses that were mostly Pinot Noir, some Grenache but mostly Pinot. Definitely has some growing up to do, and holding potential is significant.

Not sure of a 93.3 performance from my end, but at least 91. This wine has the potential to be 94 or 95. But just way too young. Lots of young bing cherry, earth, spice, peppery finish. Just pours and drinks so well, yet way, way way too young. I am anticipating the 15's soon, and the 14 is just killing it right now.

Blend of Grenache 55%, Mourvedre 35%, Counnoise and Vaccarese 10%. Very light transparent ruby color. Barely medium bodied. Nose of strawberry, raspberry, some cherry, table olives, a little balsamic vinegar (not its acidity), floral herbs and very light wood of some kind. Fragrant, clean, not tannic at all. On day 3 it's well integrated, sweet, delicious. Could go well with light meat, fish or tomato sauce pasta. QPR is not very good, though.

Consistant with my previous tasting note to seeming. However, I admit that I underrated this wine fairly. Not that riper and sweeter than I remember. Still the wine has fine structure, acceptable acidity and fresh red fruits core. Moreover, it is getting complexity as days go by. Although it is not equal to great vintages like the 2010 or 2015, I think it is good enough. 93-94 pts.
Fantastic nose of red berries, raspberry and strawberry mix, black olive and licorice. Elegant, lean, fresh, spicy, thyme, cloves with a very energizing acidity and lovely fruit. Guess this is what would be labelled vibrant. Long lingering finish. If tasted blind I would have taken this for a Burgundy, far from sweet full bodied southern Rhone, more like northern. No sign of closing down, just delicious. 95-96p
Red fruits pepper and spice, lots going on in this wine at such a young age. Great balancing acidity and good grip, nice finish! Still young and lots of upside. Delicious!

Popped and poured. Quite bright in the glass...more ruby than garnet. Awesome aromas of red fruit, spice and garrigue. On the palate, bright red fruits that comes across so fresh and delightful but there's a great deal of nuanced complexity to it with spices, minerals and sous bois. This is arguably the most Burgundian CNdP that I've ever had and I love it! Not terribly tannic; easy to enjoy now. Acid is balanced and perfect for a meal. What a treat! With a little evolution, this could be even better. Drink now or hold.

Transparent garnet color. Kirsch, blackberry, dry flower, black pepper, Earl Grey black tea, dye, sandalwood and musk. Breathe 2-3 hours. Riper, sweeter and structurized than the 2013 vintage which I still like for its delicacy and vivid acidity. The wine has soft texture, sweet tannin and rich palate. It is accessible already but needs a few years to get complexity. Alc. 14.0%

Winebar [6 Reds] from 2/24/17 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): A 100% destemmed composition of 45-65% Grenache, 20-40% Mourvèdre, 10-15% Syrah, & 5% Counoise/Muscardin/Vaccarese vinified in temp controlled, s/s tanks, & typically aged in old foudres 12-15 mos before being bottled unfiltered.
N: Closed; Notes of jam & garigue as it opens? Intensity lurking?
P: MF body; Rndish entry with almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which finally mitigates by the LONG, slightly tangy, almost swtish finish. Just a quick look at a tasting, tasted vis a vis the 2013; this speaks of the vintage, light and elegant, Burgundian. Grenache at it's best, very easy and pleasant to drink with red fruit galore, some garrigue and a long finish. While suited for early drinking,m this will still keep and improve, I think. 94+ point. #Haveselskabet

[Tasted at Mövenpick] My star of the evening, and I am lucky again to concur with the 94 of Jeff Leve below (MC2 Wines jumped in later with the note between us, predating it, as you can see on the like list). This certainly has a lot of potential to go even higher but is already enjoyable now. Some very interesting nutty/almond note in there, really complex.

Chateauneuf du pape tasting (at my home): Aroma:
Fruit: The nose is initially dominated by aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as blackberry, raspberry, and cherry.
Spice: As the wine opens up, notes of Provençal herbs, garrigue, and black pepper emerge, adding complexity and depth.
Floral: Some reviewers also detect hints of violets and other floral notes.
Palate:
Full-bodied: The wine is medium to full-bodied with a rich and velvety texture.
Finish:
Long and lingering: The finish is long and lingering, with the spice and fruit flavors echoing on the palate for a long time.
Overall:
The 2014 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a stunning wine that is both powerful and elegant. It is a perfect example of what this great appellation can produce. It is still young and will continue to evolve over the next few years, but it is already drinking beautifully.

Ripe Grenache flavored raspberry fruit. Very approachable and easy right now.

Red fruits pepper and spice, lots going on in this wine at such a young age. Great balancing acidity and good grip, nice finish! Still young and lots of upside. Delicious!

Clos des Papes tasting in CPH with Avril (BarVin Copenhagen): The vintage speaks loudly and charming here; such great fruit, Grenache galore, sweet, refreshing - le temps des cerises - goes on and on. Will keep and gain complexity, but very approachable. 93+

Good but a bit more herbal flavors than I prefer. I think it will be better in a year.

Vinosphere (Town Hall, Sydney): Perfumed red berry fruit , cherry, slight stalkiness, slight black pepper. Juicy, rich, dense, broad big bodied. Needs time but despite the weight this has balance and elegance.

Alc. 14.0%

Complex and expressive. Deep fruits and earthy aromas on the nose. Full but elegant in the palate. Nice acidity. Very enjoyable now.

Dark purple. Nose is smoky with surmature framboise, fennel, dark chocolate, grarrigue. The wine is ripe but has firm tannins and real structure, a wine for lamb brochettes or ratatouille. Long finish.

A *very* nicely BALANCED style that, deserving of 12, poss 18, mos of cellaring, doesn't strike this neophyte as LIKELY making "old bones". I.e., unlike MOST here (including the "pros"), I'd probably look to consume this by '22. 95 pts Decanter, 17.5 (3x) & 18/20 Jancis Robinson, 4*(*)/5 drinkrhone.com, + other scores on wine-searcher's Tasting Notes pg.

My star of the evening, and I am lucky again to concur with the 94 of Jeff Leve below (MC2 Wines jumped in later with the note between us, predating it, as you can see on the like list).
This certainly has a lot of potential to go even higher but is already enjoyable now. Some very interesting nutty/almond note in there, really complex.
One of the few occasions on which I wish I was rich.

Rule the Rhone; 10/27/2016-11/3/2016 (Northern & Southern Rhone): Cassis and raspberries and bits of pepper. It's fresh, easy to drink. Herbal characteristics. This seems to have the stuffing of a wine that would age well, but it was also just enjoyable now.

Elegance, purity of fruit, freshness and energy are at a very level for this semi difficult vintage. The wine serves up ripe, sweet, pure red fruits and spicy berries in suave, polished, sexy finish.
