Pleasant to drink and holding strong after 10 yrs. Doesnt have quite the pop and elegance it had in its youth or other vintages. A solid carlisle monte rosso.

i drank this bottling back to back with a 2013 Monte Rosso. The 2013 was the clear winner. The 2014 was lifted and floral but ultimately too tart and frenetic against the 2013 full-bodied, fruit-forward, and smooth personality. As with all things wine - it comes down to preference. The 2014 is a good choice if you like floral/lifted Zinfandel but the Thanksgiving crowd wanted something settled and unabashedly big and bold with no harsh edges.

Excellent wine, dark and full bodied and lightly peppery, rich ripe black fruit, blueberry, lilac, structured and balanced and ready to drink but still able to roll several years further and develop.

Intense mature dark plummy fruit notes, yet not particularly sweet. Fruit is in balance with acid and softened, fine tannins. Goes well even with foods you might have thought to be too light for it.

My second bottle of this wine and, honestly, it’s disappointing given the winemaker and vineyard. I have enjoyed other bottles of 2014 Carlisles Zinfandel more than the Monte Rosso.

Crimson in color. 15.1% ABV. 91% Zinfandel and 9% Grand Noir. Heady nose of red fruits, licorice and pepper. Medium body with mouthwatering acidity. Rich, concentrated and packed with bright, juicy fruits. Cherry, raspberry liqueur, pomegranate and pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Monte Rosso has always been a Zinfandel that ages well and that certainly plays out here. Best over the next 2-4 years.

Solid for sure, but just didn’t seem to impress the way I had hoped. Seemed a bit sleepy, without much acidic lift and fairly light on the aromatics. There’s plenty of depth of fruit, but it’s just not showing much more tonight. Have one more bottle and will try again in six months or so.

I drank this wine over the course of about 1.5 hours and it hit its stride at about 45 minutes of air time. I have had the benefit of drinking a fair amount of Carlisle Monte Rosso (mostly 2009, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 15) and this wine was by far and away the most floral and lifted of bottlings. I have become accustomed to thinking of Carlisle Monte Rosso as big fruit (mostly berries) and big alcohol - all in hedonistic balance but still a big wine. This wine was just as enjoyable but lighter (medium body) and gentler - both in terms of flavor profile and mouth feel. Super fun to drink. I would guess there is at least another 3-5 years of prime drinking remaining and I would recommend a 60-minute decant if you open anytime in the next year.

Drank over 2 nights; corked and refrigerated at 38F between. Upon opening, it was more like a young pinot than a zin, with thin, tart red fruit. Not the immediate big rush of zin goodness you get from a young Carlisle zin. But patience is rewarded. Everything zin is there -- big body, spiciness and fruit, but sharp edges have been removed, everything is mellower and more integrated. This is probably the most elegant zin I've ever had.
Profile on day 2 pretty much the same as day 1, with shorter time scale.
Paired nicely with spaghetti alla puttanesca.

Slightly more impressive than a bottle 3 or 4 months ago. For whatever reason, this one struck me as richer. Nice balance right now and a nice finish. Nevertheless, it doesn't compare to Carlisle's zins from Carlisle Vineyard, Papera, and Pagani. I still don't see what all the fuss was about.

Very deep garnet in color with red and black fruit on nose. Seemed unbalanced at first drink but really needed time in glass to open and reveal red and purple fruit with earthiness. Very good acidity and I felt the wine was better second day than first. Big complex wine that I suspect has many more years to go before maturing.

Socks still on. Nothing wrong with this, but... Pleasant nose. Mostly red fruits on the palate. Medium body, and not all that rich. Decent finish. Maybe the victim of unrealistically high expectations, but ...Meh.

Lovely plum color in the glass. Nuanced berry nose. On the tip of the tongue, I get some blackberry but, also, some savoriness. Interestingly, as the wine passes back I get more fruit that seems to also have more sweetness and more tartness. Some minerality. Tannin is quite sedate. A nice mouth-filling wine.

Decanted for about 45 minutes before we drank - probably could / should have waited another hour. The first sips were acidic and fruity (not in a good way) - after time passed, rich black cherry, coffee, chocolate, and licorice emerged with great depth of flavors. A little Carlisle spice to end the experience. This baby is a special wine for sure, just be patient with her!

Still black ruby. Aromas of blackberry, plum and boysenberry with some background spices. Fruit takes the lead on the intense palate, leaning toward the darker side of zinfandel, with excellent balance for a fairly large-scaled wine. Finish is moderate, but this is evolving very slowly - I'd expect this to show well and with increasing interest over the next decade.

Quick decant. Aromas of boysenberry, blueberry, wild cherry, blueberry and currant. Nose has a lot going on. Flavors of wild cherry, boysenberry, raspberry, rhubarb and a touch of currant. Ends with a raspberry and boysenberry finish of 30 seconds. Took a bit for this to come around but revealed a big wine once open.

This was wine of the night on Christmas Eve. We also opened a 97 point Napa Cabernet paired with prime rib and everyone preferred this to the big cabernet. Medium ruby color. Carlisle 2014s from the barrel - Something to be excited about (Russian River Valley): Of all the 2014s, the most primary, un-evolved. One senses mineral and power, in this almost wholly Zinfandel wine. Instead of the suave, dark savory fruit of RRV, this is muscular, even beefy, with "rare steak" overtones and blood orange. This Zin is the least like the others in this tasting, and the earthiest. The tannins need time. 90-93
