  • Popped and poured. Medium dark yellow. Apricot, white flower and apple bouquet. Palate is similar, with a kerosene note and minerality arriving in the mid-palate. Acidity becomes pronounced on the final.

For me this was more disjointed tonight than my previous bottles. Perhaps I should have finished this (this was my last bottle) a few years ago. Still - sad to have finished this wine as I have wonderful memories of previous bottles.

  • Bright golden yellow.

Delicate and ultra light, sweet floral aroma.

Off-dry, but with piercing acidity. Quite fresh and lively, but a bit thin. Not much complexity and seemingly almost no secondary development as of yet, except for a hint of honeyed fruit.

  • Time is gently transforming this wine.

The frangrance of flowers and fresh fruit are slowly dissipating.

On the plate this is rich and dense with hints of honey and toffee and petrol - held up by a quite austere acidity.

Good, not mind blowing - but enjoyable.

Very limited secondary development - You may easily keep this longer if stored correctly.

I will be waiting patiently to see where my remaining bottles go from here.

  • Popped and poured. Followed over 2 hours. Dark yellow. Sulfur tinged mineral bouquet with deep orchard fruit and white flower scents. Full bodied viscous entry quickly proceeding to an electric acidity tinged mid-palate showing white flower and orchard/tropical fruits. Acidity very prominent and draws the final out for close to a minute.

I think this has hit the apogee now and can still hold for a few more years but won't gain in complexity. Rich and rewarding - works well on its own en apperitif but could also pair well with Alsacian onion pie.

  • Deep golden colour. A complex nose of medium plus intensity with notes of ripe to dried apricots, fresh bread, honey and hazelnut and this note resembling pickles, that can be found in many Alsatian Rieslings. In the mouth this is full bodied, with ripe apricot and honey flavours that are at the same time wonderfully dry; the high acidity is perfectly balanced and the finish very long. In a word: brilliant.

  • Rich golden hue. Approaching full maturity on the nose with hints of "edelfirne". Candied lemon peels, nuts, almonds, dill, honey, coniferous forest, but not much in the way of petrol. Tastewise there's generous ripe candied citrus fruit in a mature state, nearly bone-dry with engaging acidity and understated mineral notes. Herrenweg is a sandy vineyard that does more for the fruit than for the minerality. Anyway - we got nice payback cellaring this relatively cheap Z-H riesling. Drink now.

  • Work Wine Tasting - Vintage Pairs (Home): Mid gold, quite a full, ripe and rounded nose. Very riesling but not in the kerosine phase. Quite easy drinking, good fruit and some nice minerality coming through on the decent length. This showed very well against the 04 Clos Hauserer at this stage. However, after 48 hours this seemed a bit simple whereas the Clos hauser and come on leaps and bounds and was a clear notch or two above this with extra complexity, intensity and persistance. ***1/2

  • Colour: dark yellow, almost a bright orange
Fragnace: intense lemon, a bit of basil, a hint of petrol, maybe some lemongrass
Taste: not bone-dry, rather sophistocated acid (probably due to the vintage), lemon, plenty of pleasing grapefruit, lemon sherbet, very nice ageing development.
All in all a very nice treat. I assume summer 2011 is an excellent time for consumption.

  • Mid-gold. Ripe on the nose, still some citrus and lanolin but joined by a good thwack of maturing riesling kerosine. Ripe and rounded on the palate, a positive attack following through to a reasonably concentrated and persistent mid-palate and then a dry reasonably long finish. An easy drinking style thatworks on its own or with food. Lovely tuff. ***1/2

  • Tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. The bottle was kindly provided by Dean Lycas. Medium gold robe with straw rim. Clean nose, showing very intense aromatics, with layers of lemon, pears, wet stones, petroleum and orange peel. Light-to-medium-bodied on the palate, with good acidity and light sweetness. The flavors offer up the same multitude of fruits and minerals as for the nose. The middle palate is full and the long finish is crisp. Absolutely beautiful, and undoubtedly age-worthy. Drink now-12/18.

  • Alsace wine fair (Raffles Hotel): Alcohol : 13%
WOW! This has developed into 2ndary aromas of which showing smoky, kerosene, spicy and chalky mineral note that is quite lifted. The intensity and concentration here is powerful but remain light on the palate with its juicy ripe acidity along with long fresh acidic finish with good depth, a touch of heat at the very end. Very good. Buy - No.

  • More pronounced botrytis now than in a younger stage. Honey, marzipan, candied apricot, lemon zest and minerals on the nose. Dry, fullbodied, mineral taste, with a biodynamic feel to it. Drinking beautifully at the moment, and still on it's way up. Almost 92. Lovely stuff.

  • Riesling Tasting (Schloss Roberts): beautiful gold color on this wine. petrol, raw honeycomb, and tea leaves. medium finish made me smile -- a thought provoking wine as you sort through the various layers. leaves behind a nice nasal honeycomb sense.

  • Riesling - First The Rest (of the World), Then The Best (Germany) (Our House (2033 Brandywine St.): Nice powerful wine here. Terrific acidity blends with pear, lemon and honey. Fuller bodied with nice complexity and mid-palate development. Everything has that zing of acidity.

  • Great acidity - lots of zing to go with the lemon/saline/minerality. Well structured and exceptionally well made.

  • Popped and poured at 9C. Drank over 2 days and gave just as much on day 2. One of Z-H's lower end bottlings but this still gave alot of pleasure. Medium dark yellow. Complex nose, with orchard fruits predominating coupled with faint notes of petrol and gunpowder. On the palate this has a round and viscous attack that gives way to a steady development of creme brulée, lemon and sundried apricots with a saline, mineral backbone and refreshing acidity holding it all together. There is some sweetness here, but it comes across as a toasted sweetness, adding a welcome note of complexity without becoming intrusive, and as you are appreciating there's sweetness to the palate you are simultaneously experiencing a surge of acidity. All in all, the package makes for a complex, intense, and enjoyable experience. This is not a linear or particularly focused riesling. The acidity seems a bit disjointed tonight and this is all the same ever so slightly astringent on the final. Finishes long with a reverberating echo of lemons squeezed over crushed slate on a hot summer day. This wine shows better as it warms - I'd serve it at cellar temperature next time without fear of it becoming flabby.

  • Popped and poured at 9C. Medium yellow. Flint, oak, and floral notes on the strong bouquet. Brisk attack with good acidity and minerality supporting a pleasant and complex amalgam of white flowers, ginger and honey. Decent length and very refreshing. An honest, good quality riesling full of fruit.

  • Popped and poured at 6C. Medium dark yellow. Initially tight but bouquet developed nicely as it warmed with floral and citrus notes and whiffs of flintstone. Brisk attack and complex, if somewhat muddled midpalate with orange rind, lemon, apples and floral notes coupled with a strong minerality and acidity. This wine finishes long and is very satisfying.

  • Mid-gold. Ripe, expressive nose of citrus, mineral and lanolin. Surprisingly fat, rich feel to the entry, fleshy and rounded, minerally mid-palate and then a glorious thwack of acidity towards the end and through the long finish. I can see this being almost too much for some people but personally, I think it nicely balanced. A lovely combination of ripeness at the front and freshness on the finish. A good food wine and all to easy to quaff. Ripeness up-front, but just about Indice 1 at 9g/l RS. Lovely. Bare ****.

  • Mead like in color and palate. Full yellow color with peach/apricot nose. Sweetness and acidity balance nicely.

  • Beautiful yellow colour. Great nose with lots of lemon zest. Opens up with air towards peach and apricot. Perfect full citrus fruit and a somewhat tough acidity. Very tempting now, but will improve and reward medium term cellaring. Lock up your bottles. For now, be sure to decant an hour in advance.

  • A day at Zind Humbrecht (Turckheim, Alsace, France): Light to medium yellow in the glass with a Herrenweg-typical open nose. Medium bodied and clearly from ripe grapes, this was an unctuous wine with a very nice edge of acidity that kept things fresh. Long and spicy on the finish. This and the Gueberschwihr bottling give me the best indication of the success Olivier had with Riesling in 2004 as both bottlings exceeded expectations. 50+13+12+8+8 = 91
