Barolo Master Class (Johns Creek, GA): Tasted during a "Barolo Master class" at The Wine Store in John's Creek, GA. Bottle opened for 3 hours prior to tasting and tasted with cheese, bread and charcuterie. WOTN for me. Color is dark brownish red with orangish rim. Outstanding nose, barely any tannin. Mouthfilling fruit with a woodsy note. This is from a vineyard with limestone soil and a cooler climate. Brad - heavypourwine.com

2012 Barolo / Barbaresco (Terra Rossa N1): On the nose ripe plum, spices, light tar and dried cherry. Still quite fresh and lifted. On the palate this isn’t quite ready to go - there are depths there but swamped by tannins very quickly.

2012 Barolo/Barbaresco (Terra Rossa): Much leaner and brighter than the Vajra, and perhaps more typical of Ravera in that respect. High-toned nose with blackcurrant, which isn't a scent I associate with Barolo. Very juicy tart red fruit on the palate, slightly stern and austere, with somewhat drying tannins. I upscored this towards the end of the glass, and think it needs time.
Wonderful spicy nose: quite complex. Ditto palate, with depth. Perhaps not a great wine (there is a certain lacking of complexity) but lovely balance in the mouth.

Classic Barolo notes abound, with fragrant roses and tar on the nose and an equal amount in the palate, with very well integrated tannins that are best described as fined grained. This has aged well and can continue to do so.

Opened for grilled porterhouse with the wife. Fruit is diminishing but acid is well in place. Tannin present but not overwhelming. I’m not one to wait till barolo is dead of fruit to appreciate. I think it’s drinking well but will not improve much more with age just depends how much acid you want. Drink now till 2024.

Weekly tasting group RWP; Piedmont (@ BP): Bouquet with friendly red berries like raspberries and cherries. On the palate cherries and strawberries, some leather and oak, good acidity and tannin with a lovely bite. Beautiful wine.

Brutal, brutal, brutal upon opening. Salty. Acid so pronounced it was barely bareable. Tannin ripped my jaw off. Calmed down after 2 hrs of air. And then it was just lovely. I think this is not, really, in the window - for me a hold. Next bottle earliest 2024.
(later added: serious wine, serious concentration. Will be great.)

Barolo & Barbaresco $50 Double Blind (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): Pretty see through pure crimson, pale rim; lovely rose, not as intense, mint, dark cherry liqueur, very fresh, almost watermelon, warm strawberry showing a hint of jam; soft elegant palate, savory, meaty, youthful, no oak influence noted; tasty with very good potential.

First wine at the Italian Wines table for Oakton Wine Shops Third Annual Bucket List Tasting. Mix of medium garnet and brick red. Dried cherries on the nose with rose petals, peppers and dried dark herbs. Medium bodied and very dry on the palate with medium tannins (6.5/10). Lots of dark minerality on the palate. Long finish. Drink till 2024.

During a walkabout tasting, so only brief impressions. Ouch, easily the most painful wine to taste on this event. Brutal, dry tannins - you have to renovate your entire mouth after only one sip. Aromas are oxidative, with nutty, tar notes. No way.

The 2012 Barolo Ravera hails from 70 year old vines in Ravera – the most prestigious cru of Novello renowned for its altitude and limestone soil. The nose is enchantingly aromatic, and seduces the senses with traces of ripe red cherry, violet, mint, spice, tar and tobacco. The palate dazzles as well, offering up rich red fruit, impressive balance, and an elongated finish. Hold.

A bit baked when it opens up; certainly the vintage. Mild tannins. Overall enjoyable, but not the mind blowing experience one had come to expect from Cogno or Ravera.

Tar, strawberry, roses, chocolate and nail polish. Mature with slightly noticable alcohol, but still fresh with high acidity. Fine grained tannins. Long finish. Very good wine, just not as good as I had expected.

Italian Wine Scholar Class at the Texas Wine School. This is a delicious but very youthful Barolo from an MGA vineyard near Novello. The color is medium (+) ruby/garnet with orange hues. The nose is clean, complex, with black cherry, ripe plum, tar, rose, coffee, licorice, truffle, leather. The palate is dry, with medium acidity, medium (+) tannins and high alcohol (14.5%). The palate is rich, consistent with the nose, with a long and youthful finish. Overall, this is a very well made wine which needs quite a bit more aging to reach its optimal drinking window.

Gambero Rosso Singapore 2017. Sniff, sip, spit. Only impressions. Slight floral nose. Good concentration and depth of dark red fruit. Prominent high tannins. Good stuffing. Should be approachable in just a few years when the tannins soften up. Will be good. Lampia and Michet clones of Nebbiolo.

Beautiful forward floral nose of rose, cranberry, strawberry and a faint hint of wood. Lithe on the palate with sweet fruit and very good balance. The tannins are still prominent, but ripe, not harsh or overwhelming. Mid-weight. Needs 6-8 years but won't be a really long lived wine. Possibly closer to 93 pts
Much, much better than his Barbaresco.

Tasted after Cascina Nuova. More depth and complexity on the nose, slightly floral, lifted, more earthy. On the palate riper and more generous with great grip and power. Slightly drying towards the finish. Long. 92-93+

The nose was remarkably pretty with dried florals up front, followed by crushed cherry and stunning minerality. On the palate, I found lifted, feminine textures, with pretty red fruits and dried inner floral tones. It finished long on tart red berries and a coating of mineral-laced tannin. This may not have the stuffing of the best vintage, but the 2012 is fine example of Ravera.

Piedmont Trip, Day 3- Elvio Cogno+Massolino (Barolo, Piemont, Italy): Nose: The nose is layered and deep with violets, red cherries, licorice, raspberries, spice tones, wild flowers, incense, and some truffles. The depth really draws you in with beguiling bewilderment and the nose is loaded with perfumes that are just barely showing what they can do.
Taste: Medium bodied with high acidity and high tannins. While the structure is quite youthful, it isn't too overpowering with the tannins having a fine-grained quality to them. There is refinement and elegance to the feel as well with red cherries, licorice, raspberries, wild flowers, leather, and spice notes.
Overall: This is a drop dead gorgeous wine. It is extremely aromatic right now with loads of depth and elegance and a whole lot to like. It certainly needs age, but the overall materials are there for this to be something stunning in time.
