First experience with Mousse and this is the L’or d’Eugene perpetuelle blanc de noir. Disgorged 4/2022. 2.5g/l RS and same on the dosage. 2003-2020 reserve years. 80% meunier and 20% Pinot noir.
The wine is golden, with a tinge of rose, let’s call it rose gold. It has wonderful full aromas of pastry, but not the overly sweet varieties. There’s a nice mix of red and yellow apples here too with some nuts and honey along for the ride. On the palette, the aromatics show up in full force, with some additions of red raspberry and strawberry that come in toward the finish. Acidity is medium plus here, and well balanced. Personally, I’d like a touch more to hit that extra high note, but it’s by no means lacking.
Really impressive entry level wine at a solid price. I’m a fan and will seek out more from Mousse.
Update: 2 hours in with air, this wine transformed into something even better. More terroir now, with a rocky, chalky thing that just smells like a wonderful place to relax and forget about it all. I LOVE the nose on this wine. Taking my score up two points for this unique terroir element that’s drawn me in big time.

Absolutely love this stuff. In the glass, this Champagne has a golden hue. The nose is a captivating journey of aromas, from confit lemons and honeycomb to tart red fruits, all underpinned by subtle notes of white peach and a chalky minerality. On the palate, the nuances continue to unfold. The distinct taste of honeycomb, devoid of its typical sweetness, stands out, harmoniously blending with flavors of white peach. There's a delightful interplay of red fruits and minerals, and the ripe, almost astringent lemon note adds an intriguing twist. The wine's complexity is evident with each sip, revealing layer after layer of flavors, making it a truly immersive experience. Its body leans towards medium-plus, perhaps even full, with a fine mousse. The finish is remarkably long, testament to the wine's depth and character. Accompanied by a medium-plus acidity, this Champagne is not only deeply flavorful but also superbly balanced. It stands as an exceptional value, offering an experience that lingers both on the palate and in memory.

From a magnum. Very easy drinking bubbles. A bit tough since it was in a line-up with a lot of truly amazing wines and this feels more like the wine that you have in a glass on a warm summer day when you are not planning to contemplate the wine. Easy and a great QPR.

92+ all day long for me. This was served as my starter for my annual WWC hosting. Typical format of sparkler, three whites, four reds, one dessert, all served blind.
A true favorite at the price point. 80/20 meunièr/Pinot noir. 2003-2019 perpetual reserve, disgorged early 2021. 3g/l dosage. I find meunièr is expressed best when the fruit is ripe and/or when used in a perpetual or solera method. The fruit forward nature of meunièr can handle the rich/advanced profile when paired with low dosage. Spiced apple, cider, red berry fruit. Great mousse. Chalky and classical but not sharp or abrasive.
These can hold post disgorgement a good while, but personally, I think meunièr is accessible early.

Disgorged 21/12/2017, 7g/L dosage, Perpetuelle 2003-2015. Light golden; medium intensity aromatics with some lemon, slight brioche; palate is medium-bodied, nice balanced and integrated mousse, balanced dosage, showing a bit of richness and roundness of age but with plenty of youthful vibrance and citrus; medium length finish. A very respectable perpetuelle-style Champagne. 90

From the wine list at Brest Oyster & Champagne Bar, Verona. Perpetuelle 2003/19, Bottled 2020, Disgorged 2021. Paired with raw bar - oysters, scallops, shrimp and langoustine. Golden colour with a red taint. Nice perlage. A rich nose with red fruits. On the palate at first savoury, quite complex, needs a lot of time to open up, spices come through as does creme brulée aromas, also a beautifully articulated pear drop flavour that lingers. The pinot noir adds a really nice acidic twist. A really satisifying champagne.

This is beautiful. I really like Pinot Meunier which lends the orchard fruit spectrum to Champagne. White peaches, bread, kiwi, walnuts, but with great minerality and lift.

Intense fruity aroma with notes of ripe red apple, vanilla, flowers and brioche. Very fruity flavor with copious amounts of ripe apple, pear, candied meyer lemon and brioche. A slightly salty vanilla and mineral finish. Good acidity cuts the sweet ripe fruit — it’s hard to believe that the dosage is so low. Delicious and goes down easy. If you like sweet ripe fruit then you’ll love this! Drink now.

Once you're able to claw your way past the aggressive effervescence, there is ripe and round fruit lurking underneath. I'd actually recommend decanting this for a short period of time just to let it chill out a bit before making the attempt to fully enjoy this Champagne. Otherwise, it's quite the effort to dodge the barrage of bubbles spitting at you for the first half-hour or so. In the end, this was fine and all, but not especially memorable. I liked it ok but was a far cry from loving it.
The Mousse L'Extra Or Degorgement Tardif BdN and Terre d'Illite Extra Brut BdN are much more complex and compelling. Drink this l'Or d'Eugene now and over the next handful of years.

Disgorged 5/22/2019. Big, toasty, fruit-filled nose. There are copious amounts of lemon-scented pear preserves as well as quince. Full-bodied and quite rich, this is all about sweet, ripe fruit. Only 4 grams of dosage, but the fruit is SO ripe, you'll never miss it! Wow, red apple skin and precision acidity make for a complete package. For all the richness and red fruits, there's still a saline minerality to the finish. I'd love to taste a 10 year old bottle of this. 93+

The nose reveals; bruised red, golden & hints green apple, pear, dried pineapple, coconut shavings, cream, pie crust, vanillin, touch yeastiness, sea spray, fine chalkiness, limestone, volcanics, soft white spice, camomile, spring flowers & jasmine.
Mousse is in the name for a reason. The mouthfeel is the first thing that grabs you. Cotton mousse presence. The body is full. Bruised red, golden & hints green apple, pear. dried pineapple, coconut shaving, cream, pie crust, graham crackers, vanillin, touch yeastiness, sea spray, fine chalkiness, limestone, volcanics, strong sense of heat & bite on the white spice, camomile, spring flowers & jasmine. The acidity is round, crisp & lively. The finish is smartly polished;rich, lush, nicely knitted & balanced and long sets in endless grippy minerality & spice.
This will benefit from another 2-5 years in bottle.

I had this several weeks back and didnt keep any notes. But this was memorable. Juicy, vinous, with vibrant acidity, and a mineral spine. Somewhat different from the norms, and not particularly fizzy as it warmed up to room temperature in the glass.

Lovely ripe nose of red-skin apple, white pepper, various floral influences, in particular, violet and rose that lean the fruit towards a dark bitter cherry. This also shows a more copper tinge to the color. Big shouldered, with ample volume on the palate. Long, rope finish. 90-91.

Rich blanc de noirs with complexity from the reserve perpetuelle, i.e. Solera. This was 2003-2017 disgorged on July 31, 2019. So very fresh at the same time. Perfect level of dosage for the wine in my opinion, 4 g/l. Reminds me of Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve in style but probably wouldn’t as much if I had them side by side.

Terry Thiese Champagne Portfolio Tasting (Pops for Champagne, Chicago IL): The nose is lovely and balanced with pears, peaches, red apples, warm dough, biscuits, quince, strawberries, honeydew, nectarines, baking spices, and toasty notes. There is good complexity, but this lacks some depth as the tones are more sitting on the surface. The Medium bodied feel carries through the balance of the nose while possessing tart, high acidity. The structure is well integrated and balanced, but the lack of depth on the nose is also here as well. This is a very good champagne, but lacks some of the imagination that I normally get from Mousse.

Really expressive nose full of red fruits and spice. Rich and full-bodied with moderate acidity and a touch of oyster shell. This is excellent and should go well at the table. nice touch of pit fruits, this tastes sweeter than the 4 g/L of dosage would suggest. Excellent!

Light golden color; high intensity aromatics with quince (prominent), slight lemon; palate is medium bodied, medium-intensity mousse (not the most plush mouthfeel, but not bad either), quince, apple, a slight feeling of maturity/slight oxidation without much brioche or yeastiness, dosage is present but moderate; finish is medium-length. Overall this is a lovely entry level champagne showing a nice blend of freshness with a bit of complexity from the solera style, lacking only a bit of length to take it further. 90

Disgorged 03/2017, 8% PM and 20% PN. 7 g/l dosage. The d'Eugene is a solera, this one starting with the dominant base of 2015, and going back as far as 2003. Floral, lime and honeyed. I find this cuvee and dosage to be outside of what I enjoy. I would rather drink the d'Eugene Extra Brut, and most certainly the disgorgement tardiff of the EB cuvee. However, for the entry bottle of the range for Mousse, they settle on this level of dosage so that they can have the wine be approachable for all palate preferences. They may lower it with time, as tastes may change and I gave them my feedback to help!

A private lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL): Réserve perpétuelle since 2003, 95% Pinot Meunier and 5% Pinot Noir, disgorged 14 January 2020. Rich and rounded, delicately fluffy but elegant, juicy and supple but minerally and direct, smooth and flowing. A lovely aperitif.

Pretty light yellow, generous bubbles, disgorged 1/13/18. Dosage 7g/l. This was a terrific accompaniment to chicken Tikka masala. The amount of dosage worked great with the spiciness of the dish, refreshing acidity and nice complexity. Great paring IMHO. Very nice by itself afterwards.

A dinner for two (Frenchie, Covent Garden, London): £14/glass. Rich BdN and biscuity, very interesting to read about the solera. Perhaps lacking a touch of crispness, possibly because served by the glass. Enjoyed.

This really underwhelmed me. Nice mousse but lacking in almost all flavors and aromas. Off bottle?
