  • Well done , nothing over the top , tannins were noticeable , fruit was just there , not an overbearing wine, with this quality happy to drink any day.

  • Opened and decanted:

Sweet phenolics and raspberry. Intensifying menthol Arresting suger cane. Saline scent of preserved olive liqour.

    Buttered menthol.

Dry leather and hessian on the top rear tounge. Hardware and army surplus shop. Chalk and oyster shell, rear under-tounge.

    Approachable and delightful.

Plus 45 minuites: Subdued nose; balanced menthol with lavender.

One hour: Savoury. Asparagus, bay leaf; sage; more and more herbaceous with time.

Hint of the scent from wild garlic.

Two hrs: Revealing, yielding a soft textual salve. Soft acididity, bramble bush berries on the pallete; poised with dry leather. Aromatic, herbaceous scent.

Would be fine with beef - but particularly venison, or delicate lamb. Even sardines.

Light touch of propolis on edge of glass at fade of bottle.

    A versatile and agreeable wine.

  • Bought at La Buvette in Omaha while eating lunch and never opened while there, 2 left in cellar there and one brought back and opened as part of the line up for Christmas Eve when we needed to take a step up without getting too fancy and didn't need a full bottle and most of my other 375ml bottles are too young. Was concerned about provenance as I found it standing up in the shop but it turned out to be in very good shape (I think La Buvette somehow got this in recently so I took a chance that it would not have been in any heat and I think it wasn't and it seemed to be a perfect bottle. Not a super complex wine but very tasty. I recall drinking this second wine from Rauzan-Segla back in the early 1990's and had not seen it in some time. Being a big fan of Rauzan-Segla and having tasted many vintages of that, I was curious. I think this bottle of the 2016 second wine bodes well for the magnum of the 2016 Grand Vin I have in my cellar.

  • 40th anniversary tasting (L'Esprit du Vin - Axelborg): My notes from this fantastic gigantic tasting are in general extremely short (because of the many wines) but with ratings. We spent a whole day tasting and tasting quality wines.

This wine: Clearly Green pepper from Cab. 2015 is a little better.

  • An exploration of Bordeaux - 2016 vintage (Le Pont, Milsons Point): Ripe plummy fruit, a little red berry fruit, cream, sweet spice, quite rich nose, polished oak. Juicy, fleshy, chalky tannins, fruit plays second fiddle to the tannins, a little red and plummy fruit. Meh for me.

  • During a merchant tasting, no detailed notes. A little closed at the moment like all 2016, good balance, aroma and freshness. Better after 2026.

  • By the glass. Earthy, blackberry with balsamic touches of mint and chocolate on the nose. Quite balanced in the mouth, already rounded, ready, abundant with a nice finish.

Por copas. Terroso, zarzamora negra con toques balsámicos de menta y chocolate en nariz. Bastante equilibrado en boca, ya redondeado, listo, abundante y de un rico final.

  • Floral scents with sweet, dark berries in a forward, open, medium-bodied style that is both easy to like and understand. Gentle elegance that will be ready to drink as soon at it hits the stores. Segla is not sold En Primeur but this is one of the top values from all of Margaux.
