Mainly Tempranillo with a small amount of Graciano and Mazuelo aged in American oak barrels, 14% vol.
PnP and consumed over 2 days at ~16°C. Showed a hint of VA at opening that disappeared with air. On the nose dark fruited, fresh moss and earthy notes, on the palate medium bodied and acidity, smooth tannin and long finish.
Classic Rioja Reserva without any uniqueness or elegance, does not have the stuffing to balance the high alcohol level, therefore better to drink it rather cool. Not at the level of the better vintages of this wine.

Seemed like it was past its prime and a bit oxidized. Gave it a little air and it softened-up a bit. Paired with a gyro and it went really well with the meal. Enjoyed an earlier vintage and still have another bottle in the cellar.

Like running into an old friend; we used to drink a lot of this, in our early wine-drinking days, and now that I've had it again, I can't quite explain why we haven't been drinking it more often. It's a classic, correct Rioja, not particularly bold or intense, but drinking nicely now, and offering a lot of character for less than $20.

Popped and poured. Wow! Intensely perfumed. Some primary cassis left but it’s mostly the tertiary aromas now. Very clean. Smooth but still with a fresh acidity. Just the way I want a Rioja at this age. Good to drink now but no problem to wait 5-10 years.

The last two bottles had really soft corks that broke apart when opening. This second bottle has a faint cork taint to it, but it is still drinkable. These imported bottles are still not as good as the domestic bottle I brought back from Spain.
At opening medium (-) body, a little neutral and oak. Will wait 2 hours to continue. Less colorful than Murrieta that we drank at the same time. Good Rioja.

Interesting...the last bottle in October wasn't as good as this, but maybe more breathing did the trick. I think so. Decade after decade, this is one of the best values in great red wine. Lots of cellar funk, berries, cigar box and everything you'd ever want in a Tempranillo Reserve for $20. Highly recommend, year after year after year. Best consumed after 6 years (i.e. count 6 years from September harvest).

My last tasting note for this wine was a while ago for 2005.
Ran out of wine at our snowy beach house at the German coast and had to steal a bottle of my fathers stash, this one seemed suitable for eggplant risotto. Hope he doesn't mind!
This is one of the most reliable supermarket red wines, I guess. Alright if it is on sale (~10-12€ every other month and my father stocks up each time) with a moderate palate of cherries, vanilla, tobacco, smooth tannins, light oak and a medium finish.

Not nearly as good as most vintages I have tasted. Overly modern and fully a vanilla/oak bomb. Bummer, as the '13s were really enjoyable. No sense of place.
Update (Day-3) - Adding three points to 87 from 84. The nose is still full of modern vanilla and generally simple. However, the palate has mellowed out significantly to show much more fruit. Stewed strawberries, black cherry, and some hints of leather. Maybe I should have saved a little for day-4, but this has definitely improved.

Spanish rioja with deep garnet hue and a robust nose of red cherries, pencil shavings and leather. Bright acidity and chewy tannins on the palate with notes of rich black fruit, pencil shavings and cracked pepper. One of the better riojas I’ve had lately.

Recently purchased. The cork CRUMBLED when I tried to open it. Disintegrated when I tried to extract it with a cork puller. Used a wine strainer to pour. This seems to be a characteristic of this wine. Prior vintages I’ve had did the same :( A lot more chore for this tasting than I was willing to do tonight. The wine tastes good otherwise. Aroma of a wet leafy floor. Tight at first taste but opened up over time to a smooth, woodsy, fruity and spicy tasting, with undertones of dark chocolate mocha. Can definitely last a few more years. In spite of the crumbling cork, I might get another couple bottles to taste over the next couple of years.

I have not looked at any opinions about this wine. But after drinking one of these on Sunday with lunch, I was compelled to write a note. I drank the wine over 2 days and day one was definitely the best.
It opened with mature red fruit, earthy old world charm, and a long sweet grip on exit that revealed the signature American Oak of Rioja expressed in woody vanilla.Very balanced and aged to perfection. This is not a holding wine but simply a wine to buy by the case and drink until you get bored with it. Im very impressed with the 2014 vintage. DRINK

Medium ruby in color. Plum, vanilla, tart cherry, smoke, oak, leather, baking spice, toast, licorice and strawberry candy on the nose. Tart cranberry, vanilla, cinnamon, and oak on the palate. Nice moderate acidity that balances nicely against structured tannins. Cola and coconut that fades to black pepper until settling into a coffee-like bitterness on the finish.

A very typical Rioja. The Reserva quality brought the tameness of age, but still ample fruit power. Balanced acidity with just a touch of tannin coming out on top. The palate was silky with jammy dark red fruits. Violets and oak climb out of the glass, reminding me of smelling my grandfather’s wine barrels as a kid. This could probably improve with some light aging, but is very enjoyable and drinkable now!

Strawberry, leather, fried thyme (I know, sorry...), crushed rock, vanilla, coconut, dill (despite it being one of the few flavors I loathe, it's delicious here), all classic Rioja flavors here at a bargain of a price. Not the most profound wine I've ever had, but its downright delicious. Very young still, will certainly shed some of its sweet aromas as it ages in exchange for savory maturity. I plan to pick up a few more bottles to hold onto to see what happens.

Six from Safeway (Private home in Arlington, Virginia): Of the six Safeway specials, I was expecting more from this bottle, as 2014 was a fine vintage for Rioja. But the wine came across as rather boring and lacking in expression. Some redcurrant, some ripe black fruit, as well, but as if they were in first gear and not even in third gear. I like subtle wines, but this was hiding somewhere in the backyard. It was furthermore a tad dilute on the palate, as if coming from excessively high yields. Not sure.
From 375mL with my lunch burger and sipping a bit after. Agree this is very approachable right now. Aromas of dark and dark red fruits, fennel, licorice, walnut, and graphite. Medium body, medium (+) acid and finish, with flavors of dark and dark red fruits, dark chocolate, and minerals. There's a light grip to it, but nothing in the way of enjoyment. The burger pairing was pretty good, and I'd say grilled meats in general would the play here. Agree with a previous comment in that this doesn't seem built for the long haul, but it could surprise with mid (+) term longevity. At any rate, no harm in popping these at any point now. Cheers.

A glass (Pnp) at an office gathering. This is very round and fairly rich so easy drinking but seemed to have little tannic structure for a barely 5 year old Reserva. So good for near to mid term drinking but not something to put aside for the long haul

The wine is dark red/crimson, almost black/red in the middle but with a pinky red rim. The nose offers bright, lifted red and black fruits, such as redcurrant, blackberry and plum. There is considerable tarry, smoky oak as well, and the oak at this stage it a bit too powerful for me. The palate shows some density of fruit, good acid balance, and a considerable tarry, oaky character which is a little too tannic and bitter for current consumption. If you drink it soon, decant and leave for a few hours to allow that dusty, tarry oak and firm tannins to settle down. A nice wine that needs hearty food (it went with Goulash well) though better to leave for few more years. I am a bit worried the oak may outlive the fruit.

Has fragrant and refined aromas of blueberries, vanilla, raspberries and spice. Its silky and elegant medium bodied blue fruits and vanilla palate has a plump and layered middle with refreshing acidity. Ends longish, zingy and flowing. 14%. I gave this three hours aeration. Drink now or lay down 5 years.

Full body, deep cherry color. Intense fresh fruits, vanilla, oak and tobacco aroma that complements with time by cinnamon and balsamic notes. Dominant black cherry palate with milk chocolate tints and long spicy finish. Rich and complex but easy drinking, silky and very fresh now , well balanced, live berries acidity and rounded tannins. Food friendly, best match is paella with stewed vegetables. Open about half hour ahead. Serve 17º - 20º. Drink now while young and next four/five years.

Not sure.

Easy to drink, light to med body, very little tannins. I prefer a more full body red, but this wasn’t bad.

Very balanced rioja, a very classic rioja but there are other riojas with the same quality but lower priced.

So good for near to mid term drinking but not something to put aside for the long haul

un peu trop moderne, je n'ai pas aimé.

Clear purple, red. Not too dark.Tight nose, Earthy red cherry and black currant fruit, hints of smoky oak and caramel. Very dry tannic smoky oak flavours and a very tannic dry finish.
Will improve.

I like this, it has a lot going on, but simply too young to my tastes. I feel I will like this better in 4-5 years when it has integrated better and shows more nuances.
