Why 62 is less than 61 (Wine Watch, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida): Ex Mähler-Besse 2009. I just don’t see how this was almost voted first by the group. While it seemed a bit better than the ‘61 I tasted recently, if the property had been well managed in this era, I think they could have done much better. The well saturated color is the best part and suggested it was a pristine bottle. Not much aroma. On the palate it’s decent but lacks fruit and sucrosity and finishes short.

Best Bottle Red in Lucerne without a theme (Hopfenkranz in Lucerne): First impression was BX, for me over his peak, drinkable but missing a "fruity" middle palate, good acidtity giving the wine his backbone, some lovage, middle finish, this bottle comes from a perfect case but anyway it was over his best life

This is a beautiful, mature Margaux that is all about faded black fruits, charcoal and tobacco. Soft and silky with all the tannins long gone, it remains complex and delicious.

Mature with good breadth, but somewhat lacking in depth at this point in its life. Metallic and light blood nose with iron, red fruit, light spice, and bell and white pepper with air time. Somewhat thin palate with the peppers coming out on the backpalate. Overpowered by a venison dish, so chose to consume largely on its own.

This bottle had a bad fill, and was opened more for the novelty than any expectation of being great. Double decanting may have been the biggest flaw as the nost on opening was bright and interesting, but by the time it was drank maybe an hour later it was declining and fast.

Murky, and long paste it's prime. This may not have been a representative/ well stored bottle, but visibility of what it may have been was too low here. Luckily, a '79 opened afterward sung brilliantly.

7 decades of Bordeaux - Blind tasting (Martin's House): Out of Magnum. Plums, spicy home made ketchup, lots of tomato concentrate, very lactic, some honey with an intense acidity, quite pleasant considering the challenge that Margaux was having at the time

TNs: 1953, 1960, 1962 and 1986 Château Margaux, 1953 and 1955 Rioja etc: Tasted blind in an older Bordeaux line up. Light red in colour, with some brown tinges. Corked. If you dug below the cork taint, you could find aromas of cassis, raspberry and black cherry. Badly corked on palate, but seemingly some good fruit underneath. Good texture and fruit weight. Seemed a bit short and lean but impossible to judge. On the reveal, a wave of disappointment in the room that this was the faulty wine. NR.

In great condition for a 50-year wine. Amber color, slight bricking. Medium-light weight. Appealing nose - berry, earth, floral. Classic Margaux balance and softness. More fruit than I was expecting for a mature wine of this age. Really nice. This bottle was a gift from some good friends for my 50th. Enjoyed with family at Mama Gina's in Palm Desert.

1962 Chateau Margaux was not the star of the show. It was of a fading star. Its fruit was fading along with its charm. Earthy, smoky, tobacco and cranberry were most of what remained.

Pulled this one out of dads collection. Very brown in colour. Musty nose. Not obvious fruit on nose. Perhaps stewed fruits. Smoothe. Well past it's best, but drunk in memory. Miss you dad.

Cork rather soaked. Ruby color. Some funk on nose, with some red berries. Weak palate of cherries, a little coco powder, caramel and smokey rum. Some territory/tertiary elements and exotic spices. Sour, short finish. Somewhat maderized. A really difficult wine to drink: not entirely unpleasant, but the bottle just had a large question mark hanging over it the whole time. Like: how many decades ago was this drinking well? The remains left in the bottle overnight achieved a little more clarity and focus the next day. This tasting note is from a few months memory.

Classic feminine Margaux, nearly as good as the 1961. Still a nice garnet color. Soap, coffee and tar. Evolved for a couple of hours without any sign of fading.

Brown at the rim - red at the core. Superb aromas of roasted coffee coupled with a saddle leather note. Medium bodied with a wonderful sweet fruit, chocolate, coffee, spice rack, spectrum of flavours. I am a sucker for wines like this, and I found it to be harmonious, balanced and with plenty of finesse. Great long aftertaste. Marvellous.

Old leather and fading, but lovely bouquet and persistent on the palate.

Corky, Minty, feminine, this bottle had a low fill, perhaps the result of the bad cork.
