From magnum. Bought this bottle when I was 20 years old and just started my life-long exploration of the wine world. Then I had a vision that I would keep this bottle until I turned 35 and would drink it with the friends I love. Now was the time for it.
Pnp. Notes of pomegranate, raisins, lavendel, bacon and stone dust on the mature, smooth nose.
Mature and lean on the palate. Despite the high alcohol it never felt heady. Long, elegant taste. Good level of fruit with lots of minerality. Suprisingly good drinking window and could be be kept for some more years.

Brownish red, edge pale/brown. Slightly odd bq w initially some cellar funk, sweet licorice, "dirty" sous-bois, spices, tree resin. Large body w plenty of almost oversweet red fruit, spices. Acidity there, as well as embedded tannins. Aftertaste nice w licorice, touch of alcohol. Not past it, but this bottle seems to have aged a bit awkward.

Absolutely stunning. Chocolate, raisin, plum, and cherry with a body to admire and legs to drool over. Right off the bat, it was phenomenal. As it opened up more, wow. This wine tells a story.

Decanted 1 hour. Lovely nose of stewed raspberries, cigar ash, and tree resin. Very condensed and concentrated in the mouth. Starts off in the blue fruit zone but never goes over the edge into sweetness. Then settles into warmed red plums, more sappy resin, and some forest floor. Still somewhat tannic on the back but more-or-less integrated. Drink now or hold 1-3 years. Very fine.

Starting to mature, but still has some really nice fruit and by now well integrated tannin. Lots of leather and dried red berries at first, good length. Perfect now and the next five years.

From Magnum, decanted 1 hour and returned to bottle. Nose muted but opened in the glass. Colour has softened to a deep red. Light rim. Nose has developed some secondary flavours though the fruit persists if gently. Very good but drink up now - 2020

Earth, balsamic note, purple cherries, blackberries, light tannic, dark chocolate, medium body, 14,5 % nicely integrated, elegant, for a C9dP it is on the light side, a finish that keeps on giving.

What a beautiful example of maturing CDP. Open for business immediately with a huge nose of black cherry, deep green rosemary and thyme, and some burnt cinnamon. The intensity continued in the mouth. Red cherry jam, wet cherry bark and smoke. Very long. Beautifully deep and layered with plenty of acid to stand-up to veal fricassee with rosemary and green olives. Superb!

Mine was one of several very good CDP opened. Oddly, for me, most of the wines tonight seemed like better than average examples of CDP but I found myself wondering if my love for CDP is starting to dim a bit. Maybe, just an off night but by the end of the night, I was starting to think I may stop buying more CDP and slowly drink down what I have. The higher ALC and grenache flavors weren't working for me tonight. We'll see what the future brings.

This is drinking wonderfully. There is plenty of acid and silky tannins to assure more development. Med-full bodied, long silky finsh with a touch of acid driven pepper. Probablly improves over 5 more years, and gies until 2025.

Second Sunday Group: 2005 CdP Traditional Cuvees vs. Tete de Cuvees (Neil's): Garnet color with notes of red fruit and earth, dirty- but in a good way. Cherry and spice qualities on the palate supported by medium tannins. Fairly lengthy finish, dominated by red fruit and spice. Develops a nice meaty note to go along with the red and black fruit. Tannins remain chewy, with dark fruit, tapenade, pepper and red berry tones carrying the long finish.

This is a big wine from beginning to end. Intense, full nose with cassis, plum, and that distinctive Chateauneuf terroir. But there's something unusual about the terroir notes--it's almost meaty, as though the vines were irrigated with bacon grease. In the mouth, zippy and unapologetically tannic, leading to a terrific finish where clove and fruity noted linger.
I had this bottle with some good moldy cheese to feel better after a bad day. It worked. The awesome finish really complemented the cheese well leading to some fun flavor synergies, and the wine evolved nicely over the evening.

Beautiful cherry liqueur note on the nose and palate with a bit of earthiness - not a bad thing. A real mouthful that goes down real easy. As close to essence of granache as you'll get in a Chateauneuf.

3rd bottle of the case I bought a couple years ago. Such a great example of CDP. I break it out for friends who know wine but may not be experienced with CDP. Nose of cherry, herbs. More cherry, truffle, licorice and nice balanced finish. Will be fun to see how it drinks over the next few years.

Birthday Dinner Chez Pelz: Another CdP. Although I recognized this as a CdP, it was in a different style from the Sabon. Much bigger and more fruit forward, and with a much darker fruit profile, this nevertheless had the elements that I associate with CdP...garrigue, olive tapenade, almost slightly oily texture, truffle/earth and black licorce. Finishes strong. Seems like it would have a fairly good size Mourvedre and Syrah component. This is a candidate for extended cellaring in my opinion, and a wine I am glad to own some of.

A little bit underwhelmed by this wine. PnP'ed which may have been a mistake. Nothing really on the nose - spent a few minutes swirling but nada.
The palate had a tar component which wasn't all that interesting. I've got 3/4 of the bottle left so will see how it changes on day 2.
