Satiny, elegant, with concentrated fruit forward, black plum, black currant, black cherry, pepper, ample tannins, drinking very well, but fruit and structure suggest improvement to come for several years at least.

Tasting note from Day 2. Wow, this reminds one of the unique beauty of California field blends. Lush, opulent, but with a nervy backbone that easily supports the 14.8% abv. I am really digging this wine. The finish is long and complex with some light oak and marvellous sweet and tangy notes. This will improve over the next 3-5 years. I have a jero in my cellar. I will definitely look forward to pulling the cork on that bottle sometime in the early 2030’s.
Deep ruby colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with red plum, blackberry, blackcurrant, forest floor, mushrooms, leather, wet leaves. Medium (+) taste of tobacco, leather, mushroom, forest floor, blackcurrant, blackberry and black pepper. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Full body. A very good Californian Zinfandel that has got a beautiful balance between juicy fruit and mature notes. Drink now or over the next ten years. Goes well with beef, duck or pork.

Wanted to like this more but thought it was just ok. Cedar, spice and dark fruit on the nose. Was a bit lighter bodied at first but added some weight. Probably best on night 2 with good fruit flavor and smooth finish that reminded me of the ‘chalky tannins’ I often read about.

This is such an excellent wine. The only Zinfandel or Zinfandel blend I drink anymore, this producer redeems the varietal. It’s rich but balanced with good acidty, not so sweet as to be cloying.

Still a bit too young although decanted for 2 hours. Deep color, very spicy nose. On the palate medium body with silky texture, dried fruits, exotic spices, cinnamon, pimento, dark berries, complex. Medium finish. I suspect the peak to be in 1 or 2 years.

Nose of cedar and oregano. On the palate Santa Rosa plum, blackberry with red raspberry, and herbs. The American oak (14-months) can be a bit too woody at times, but at only 5 years old, I'm likely drinking this one too young. I'd recommend holding another couple of years. Overall, a solid Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel.

Great wine . I had 1/3 of the bottle and decanted over night for my steak dinner tomorrow night. delicious wine hitting all the right notes right now. Full bodied- ruby color delicious dark fruit with hints of tobacco, and sweet oak and vanilla. Wine is very dense, concentrated with some well integrated tannins in the finish. No holes in the front, mid and finish. In the finish, I am getting a very particular bitter chocolate hits with shades of eucalyptus. Finish is strong and lasting. Well done!

This has scaled back a little since I last tasted this, was opened shortly prior to tasting, very similar to previous tasting note just everything scaled back, oak is starting to integrate nicely, going through a slight closed phase right now with the dark fruit, liquorice taking a back seat, tasted nearly restrained. However with a little air it started to slowly open up, always a favourite Zin. Decant a few hours prior to tasting.

Pop and pour, then ran through a vinturi. I feel like the American oak here is causing the wine to need more time in bottle to integrate. There's attractive structured fruit beneath. Open 2nd of 3 bottles in 2025 or 2027?

PnP. Color is deep garnet and purple. On the nose: Kirsch, red and black berries, violets and vanilla. On the palate: Lucious Red and black berries, cranberries and vanilla. Flavors are deep, broad and long. Mouthfeel is silky and sensuous. This is a superb Zinfandel Blend to my palate. I have only 2 more bottles. A case would be a good investment.

drank out of a demi, which honestly I wish a small format came with every case you buy so you can taste it young if you are planning on aging. but thats for another day lol. blackberry, cranberry, cinnamon. Extremely well integrated alcohol even at 14.8%. some orange peel, black walnuts. very long and tasty finish. drinks well right on opening, but gets significantly better over the next hour or two. Small bottle, so it didn't make it much further.

Ripe cherries and blackberries, tart cranberries, followed by spices, oak and tannins that are on point with the mild acidity of this wine. I picked this for our (late) thanksgiving dinner and it’s a real treat.

PnP. Very aromatic with cherry, blackberry, anise, pepper, cranberry, forest floor. Similar flavors with the blackberry, cherry and raspberry leading. Spice and anise follow. Rustic tannins in the finish. Still very young and needs time to come together.

Fruit driven, with the Zinf dominating (as would be expected). Although at almost 15% alcohol, it does not throw off any heat to detracted from the fruit. Still though it comes of a bit thin. Dark cherries, ripe red peaches, quince paste, some back notes of citrus and spices. Quite nice, but I expected more.

This is an excellent Zinfandel (well, 74% Zin, 15 Petit Sirah, 9% Carignane, 2% Mataro). Complex, layered and it will still improve with age. 14.8% abv. I have found this producer and wine to be consistently good across vintages, and 2017 is no exception.

From 0.375 bottle. Deep purple color. I always love the Lytton Springs, as it is showing beautifully ripe fruit, but also a certain austerity and structure, which makes it particularly appealing. Notes of plum, dark berries, black cherries, sweet spices like cinnamon and vanilla, also some tobacco leaf. Its full-bodied and pretty big, with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin that is very ripe and good quality. Long finish. Another excellent Lytton Springs, it might be a small step down in complexity compared to some of the best vintages, but I would drink this any day of the week.

Lovely nose. Lots of black cherry, plum, and assorted black berries. Sweet spices. A little hot (14.8% alcohol) but didn't find it too distracting. Rich, dark chocolate, and espresso flavors. Saturated with the dark fruits. Alcohol doesn't show at all on the palate. Dry-ish despite all the fruit action going on. A touch of acid at the end to keep it fresh. Rather soft and good to go, but has the stuffing to last. Delicious wine! 74% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, 9% Carignane, 2% Mataro.

Strawberry and camphor on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, blackberry, and currant, with notes of white pepper, Zinfandel bramble, and tobacco on the medium finish, with moderate tannins and good acidity, and slight jamminess. This was an average to good value at a little under $40.

Drinking nicely with raspberries and blackberries and a distinct finely grained spice note that I can’t quite place. The spice feels complex and not overly oak driven — this is starting to open up compared to the last time I had it. Really enjoyed this.

On the nose, I found dark red cherry fruit, licorice, lavender, fresh herbs and a hint of vanilla, with the aromatics showing a good level of freshness. On the palate, the wine showed good textural depth while maintaining freshness with a high acidity level. It entered with dark red fruit, lavender, and licorice tones as the nose displayed, turning a bit darker with espresso and a hint of vanilla towards the finish. The tannins remain forceful and a bit harsh towards the end, suggesting this is in need of time.

PnP, with initial aromas of candied red fruit on the nose. Blows off with air time to reveal notes of black raspberry, milk chocolate, bramble, and tar on the palate. Tight and somewhat tannic, this needs a few years to really hit its stride but is also enjoyable now.

Man this is great stuff. Medium ruby color. Raspberry and chocolate on the nose. Black cherry, raspberry, chocolate, cola, medium plus acidity, full bodied with firm tannins and a long finish. Killer pairing with burgers and a great Zinfandel blend. Drank a bit too early, would benefit from some more time in the cellar.

I know this wine has been out for a while, and I bought several bottles in 2019. I drank several bottles of the 2017 Geyserville but chose not to buy to store. The 2016 Gville was stellar in my view. I'm completely unimpressed with this wine. The balance is fine, the flavor palate completely uninteresting. Maybe it is going through an odd phase but I've never experience a zin go through a dumb phase. A dumb phase is completely normal for Bordeaux and Burgs. I've never had it happen with a CA PN either and for some wines drank a bottle per year over 10 years. Maybe I lack LS experience.
A dark, dense Lytton. Muscular and solid for this bottling, not as light and feminine as I'd expect. A bit angular. Good, but not the best Lytton. Perhaps a little more bottle age will tame it.

2017 Ridge East Bench Zinfandel (91 Points) Beautiful nose with cinnamon, strawberry, and sweet tobacco. Although its palate may not have the most astonishing sophistication, it is elegant, balanced, and most importantly, invitingly drinkable. At this point (surprisingly) my favourite of the three wines, maybe because the other wines are earlier in their development.
2017 Ridge Geyserville (90 Points) Tasted it just recently, and pretty much lived up to my expectations; a nose filled with perfumed fruit ( cherry), cinnamon, and tobacco. This wines is lovely already but needs a bit more time as the tannins are still quite present. Very good, but it will get better.
2017 Ridge Lytton Springs (89 Points) Very different from the two above on the nose; much sweeter with jammy blackcurrant dominating and the spicy character is taking a back seat compared to the other two. Overall, it feels like a wine that has seen much more sun, with more ripe fruit and more weight in the body. In stark contrast to the other two, it is more robust and powerful than it is elegant and balanced. Maybe this has the most significant ageing potential and will mellow and gain in complexity over time. I have never had old Lytton Springs and will lookout for it. However, for now, my least favourite of the three.

Decanted for four hours. Perfumed bramble berries, acacia flower, rock and dark spice. Long and flowing, with a full body and a deep core. So much elegance and persona, this has all the bones to age very well. Polished. Drink 2022 - 2037.

Deep dark garnet in color, bordering on opaque. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with briary, earthy & spicy overtones, herbs, some dark cocoa, a hint of pepper, minerals & a slight hint of vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plummy/jammy, ripe dark fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & blueberries with spices, herbs, minerals, some cocoa & a hint of vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but has the fruit and structure to continue development with additional more years of aging if cellared properly. A blend of 74% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, 9% Carignane & 2% Mataro (Mourvdre) from Dry Creek Valley.

Been looking forward to trying this Zin from Ridge. Ruby in color. Nose of plums. Palat has a nice jamminess to it with raspberry and blackberry. There’s a good amount of heat and acidity to it and a good tannic structure there. Pretty well balanced and has the makings of an age worthy Zin.

Remembering we are tasting the 2017 vintage this is a fantastic showing with blackberry jam, red currents, bramble jelly, the palate is going at 100 mph, showcasing the wonderful purity of the fruit with focused tannins and a clean finish. I would hold off as the wood is still integrating at this stage yet this is better than I expected.

74/15/9/2 Zinfandel/Petite Sirah/Carignan/Mataro. 14 months 10% new American oak. Medium plus nose, darker color & style vs their Geyserville, black pepper, black cherry, more serious feel, medium plus tannins, should do well with age.

Pronounced notes of dark fruit, but with hints of dried red fruit as well. Medium+ acid and medium tannins. There's loads more dark fruit on the palate, with a finish that gives way to hints of spice.
I've heard the Lytton wines age well, so I look forward to coming back to it.
Consumed over 4 nights. Fruit forward for a Ridge. Lots of dark fruit, gently American oak with a little pepper. Tannins showed more each evening. Drinking well now. PNP or decant for hours. Good either way.

9% Carignane and 2% Mataro. Ripe nose of brambly black fruits, spiced plums and loamy earth. Full bodied with medium acidity. Elegant, Claret style Zinfandel. Black cherry, blackberry, iron and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. The consensus is that Lytton Springs needs time in the cellar but I think this will show best over the next 3-5 years.

oscuro to rim, large legs, long finish. Low acid/low tannin. Less structure than previous lyttons that i've aged for up to a decade.

PnP, with initial aromas of candied red fruit on the nose. Blows off with air time to reveal notes of black raspberry, milk chocolate, bramble, and tar on the palate. Tight and somewhat tannic, this needs a few years to really hit its stride but is also enjoyable now.

Part of PM67 tasting with Eric Baugher.
So young but so rich, deep cherry, black fruits. EB gave speech about aged Zin so want to try this in 10/15 years!

67 Pall Mall Virtual Tasting: Ridge Wineries
3 Zinfandel based wines:
2017 Ridge East Bench Zinfandel (91 Points)
Beautiful nose with cinnamon, strawberry, and sweet tobacco. Although its palate may not have the most astonishing sophistication, it is elegant, balanced, and most importantly, invitingly drinkable. At this point (surprisingly) my favourite of the three wines, maybe because the other wines are earlier in their development.
2017 Ridge Geyserville (90 Points)
Tasted it just recently, and pretty much lived up to my expectations; a nose filled with perfumed fruit ( cherry), cinnamon, and tobacco. This wines is lovely already but needs a bit more time as the tannins are still quite present. Very good, but it will get better.
2017 Ridge Lytton Springs (89 Points)
Very different from the two above on the nose; much sweeter with jammy blackcurrant dominating and the spicy character is taking a back seat compared to the other two.

Very good, balanced and forthcoming, with significant acidity. But also a complex nose, cherry and viola pastille. A good year. Hamburger friendly!

Tasting at winery. Light and thin. Not enough body for me. Also tasted the 2013. Same. Not my think maybe. Others by them are great. But if handed to me to drink I would be happy.

Less tannic than the Geyserville, but also not quite as aromatic. Ready for drinking now. Cassis, dark fruit, some jam, vanilla. 14.8% ABV.

En litt tynnere årgang ifølge produsenten. Mangler konsentrasjon og frukt. Mye kaffe, lav frukt. Faller litt igjennom 87
