Prior bottle was 8 months ago and this particular bottle was only a small step down from my prior one. Floral, black cherry and forest floor notes on a nose that wasn't quite as aromatic as my prior bottle. Between medium and full bodied with the same fruit combination of black cherry and blackberry initially, plum and darker cherry through the middle and integrated tannins, light spices, minerals and earth on the finish. This bottle felt fully integrated and very balanced and harmonious. The fruit was rounded and expressive, with just enough structure for balance. As compared to my prior bottle, it was a small step down in terms of density and overall complexity. While rounder and more open, it had lost a little in terms of definition. At just over 20 years of age, this has the fruit to continue to show well for several more years, but given how integrated it is, this is peak. I'd consider buying more if the opportunity arose, but it's probably best enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.

Took about 90 minutes to open up and continued to improve over three hours. Very floral nose, along with black cherry, tar and some light forest floor notes. Between medium and full bodied (14% ABV) with beautifully balanced black cherry and blackberry upfront, deepening to dark black cherry and plum through the middle. Tart blackfruit notes, fine grained tannins and acidity on the backside provide structure and contrast. Finishes with earth, minerals and leather notes. The mid-body was silky and elegant, showing an impressive balance between fruit expressiveness and the balancing structure qualities. The wine drank extremely well and is at peak, but should be able to hold this level for several more years. If I see anymore, I will certainly be a buyer!

Opened 3 hours prior to dinner and decanted 30 minutes later when I realized this wasn't going to supple out anytime soon even at age 18+. This likely needs more like 5 hours plus in the decanter. Its a big brooding Barolo with structure in need of further time. Drank surprisingly young from a structural standpoint. Semi opaque cloudy ruby color. I had stood the btl up but some of the sediment must still have gotten in suspension. There was later some clumpy sediment. Cork in great shape. Restrained aromatics. Dark fruited, tar, balsamic and mineral. Oak mostly integrated. A little heavy and finesse deprived, for my liking. I don't know, never fell in love with this and expected more from a 18yr old btl from a semi modern producer. 90/91 Sourced last year.

This is a fantastic wine. Double decanted 30 minutes prior to tasting. Fully mature. Brownish garnet as is common with aged Barolo. Acids and tannins are balanced. Showing some tertiary notes of forest floor and umami. Tart cherry, resiny and balsamic notes. Long finish. Really drinking well!

Deep purple color. Very tannic and acid on first opening, but after some airing, the wine became beautifully balanced, but with only vague hints of black fruit, and maybe the slightest hint of tar. There were no rose petals to be found. Barolo is another wine that I have found over hyped and disappointing, despite mighty efforts. This was the best Barolo that I have had, but that isn't saying much. I ask myself whether I have lost my taste and smell, but I don't think that I have. I have friends that also have a hard time getting much out of these wines. Unfortunately, there aren't any new world examples that might teach us something, as the California Pinot Noirs have taught us about the inadequacies of red Burgundy. I will stick with the Sangiovese wines, both pure and blended, and very good without some great mental effort.
In a terrific place now. Light and vibrant with lavender and eucalyptus hints on the nose. Minimal but effective tannins propel red fruit and cherry wood palate into a 30 second finish. Has life left but why wait.

Double decanted before consuming over a 4 hour period. Still primary with a beautifully ripe red, and dark red fruit profile. Ample acidity and integrated moderate oak. Lingering medium-long finish. At the cusp of developing some secondary complexities. This should almost certainly improve in 3-5 years. 91+

Monthly Tasting Group: Barolo & Barbaresco (Cafe Lurcat, Mpls, MN): Very dark red color. PNP, Drank 1 glass over 2 hours. Absolutely beautiful and ready for business. Big nose, deep earthy, mushroom, black cherry, raspberry, licorice. The palate is earthy, red and dark red berry fruits, fine grain tannins, perfectly balanced and ready to go. This has got some legs for the road, but you can get into it nicely now.

Enjoyed this -- it had all the right treble and mid range notes, but I felt it lacked a little of the bass. Tannic finish suggested that it may just need more time. This was rather elegant and feminine for a barolo. Perhaps as a result it paired nicely with a range of dishes from salmon to bison to charcuterie.

Bought on release. A really sniffer. Damp earth, fresh mushrooms , dried roses, backdrops of red fruits. Balanced acidity. spinning mouth with a melange of terroir driven flavors matching the nose. Finish is long and evocative of walks through the woods on a warm autumn day after leaf fall. This is really lovely.

Tasted blind. My deduction was 2000 (possibly 2001) Piedmont Nebbiolo (with a nod to Barolo) from a modern style producer. Have to get close every once in awhile!
This was delicious. A full and vibrant nose of dark fruits, a slight hint of rose petal and some tar and mushroom underlying. Very nebbiolo with fantastic complexity, but obviously very young for the potential of the wine. The nose was very fruit heavy, but with the secondary notes starting to creep in my guess went to a warmer more modern style of vintage with a touch of age. The palate confirmed the dark berry fruits with nice earth notes underlying again. A healthy dose of tannin yet to be resolved confirmed the age range I had guessed from the nose. Complex finish that just added to the depth of the wine. This bottling is a real treat now and IMO will get even better with another 10 years. The prominence of fruit led me to a more modern producer, but I obviously didn't weigh the character of the vintage enough. Regardless, a delicious bottle of wine that was a real treat and a big thanks to our host who shared it!

Ruby core with wide brickish-orange rim and a slight haze. Intense nose of leather, tar, black licorice, and dried cherry. The palate is more gentle with sour cherry, blackberry, french vanilla, and thyme with a rich texture and soft wood and grape tannins to back it up.
The softness can be considered attractive or detrimental. I see it as a beautifully textured Barolo, but lacking in concentration that would lead me to believe that it has much more to unfurl over the next few years. Maybe that speaks to my more modern palate, but that does not take away from my enjoyment of this delicious wine that is at a great place right now.
