Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. Cream and blackcurrant morph into crème du cassis, plums sweet spice, leather, touch of umami and more savoury notes with time. Nice nose. On the palate the fruit has a bit of a green quality to it' less generous but still presentable blackcurrant with mint. Tannins are drying, slightly chalky and slightly clumsy and foursquare. It's a touch out of whack today. Hmm.

Bottle directly from the cellar of Talbot. What a delicious and fully mature Talbot. Very open and perfumed nose of black fruit, cedar, and hints of earth. On the palate the wine had very dusty and integrated tannins and still with great acidity. Drink now and then next 5-8 years.

The nose is wonderful - fresh raspberry and roses. In the mouth there is an agreeable freshness too, with crisp blackcurrant and raspberry flavours, but it has a very short finish and it lacks persistence mid-palate. Not a bad wine by any means, but not one of the better 06s, nor a great example of Talbot. At the current auction prices, I'd avoid it.

Coravin fun - Burgundy selection, Talbot bracket and supper wine (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Like the 2000 this smells quite dense, baked black fruit, a little tomato leaf and mint, plums, cream, sweet spice, a little biscuit and liquorice. Medium plus intensity acidity, tight tannins are floury textured, dark fruits persist long beneath this. Slight alcohol warmth, cream, cassis on the finish. Rather nice but feels like it needs a few more years.
Deep dark almost brownish purple color. Fruit cake aromas, black berry, plum, blueberry, dark fruit. Medium body and gentle fruit and a good balance of acid and tannin and fruit at this time. Not particularly mind-blowing, but it is a very solid and drinkable wine at this time. Has every element you would look for in a good quality Bordeaux, and delivers in a polished and accessible fashion.

From Coravin. Meaty, savoury with blackcurrant, sweet spice and, with time, a little cream & plum. Medium plus acidity, blackcurrant, slightly less ripe in the mouth, tannins are chalky, still a little simple.

2 t i karaffel. Rubinrød farge. Tett kjerne. Virker ung utifra fargen. I nesen påfallende mye sedertre ved første skjenk, overdøver alt annet. Etterhvert kommer solbær og plomme. Noe urter og krydder. Ingen paprika. Rund og aromatisk i munnen, masse mørk frukt. Medium konsentrasjon. Sensuell og elegant for å være bdx, men mangler litt trøkk til maten som forøvrig var en sadel av sau med rotgrønnsaker og rødvinsaus laget på fårekraft. Greie tanniner og god lengde. Litt sedertre i finishen også. Prøv igjen i 2026.

Talbot is a stalwart, so the 2006, while a tiny bit green, shows classic form in this 375. Firm structure, that forestry, wet oak, moss, dark cherry/ plum, but not as good as the 05 or 01. Decant for an hour and drink as a back- up.

Wow So glad that patience does pay ! All those classic things of cassis, tobacco, pencil sharpening etc all there. Long in the finish and huge satisfaction. I served this with roast chicken with pork & parsley stuffing and roasted potatoes. Also a gravy made from chicken stock. Very old fashioned but how rewarding! Please, no queues here for dinner; clean plates all round!

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #037: Bordeaux 2003, 2004 and 2006 (By me): Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, licorice, cherries, earth and some pleasant rustic impressions. Brought my own bottle to dinner at Ratatouille, Harderwijk for the main course. Nice bouquet of dark berries, cedar and some earth. On the palate beautifully balanced, mature red fruits with some blackcurrant, sweet spices from smoothly integrated oak, uplifting acidity and very smooth tannins. A real charmer.
Great companion to a top sirloin steak. This was definitely in a very good spot now, but it seems to have enough stuffing and liveliness to last many years more and develop over time. 90-91pts.

55th TWIGS Tasting (Villa Chang): Cork. 13% alc. Indigo colour. Smells of cedar, menthol, mint, cassis and eucalyptus. Someone on the table thought it smelled like a Wendouree. The palate is fine, carries some spice notes and there's an elegance there. If anything, it slightly under-delivers after the anticipation of the nose. Tannins are fine and slightly puckering.

Writing this while enjoying the 06 Talbot. Love having this wine around Christmas. What a lovely, feminine semi-mature claret. Still lots of life left in this bottle, enjoy over at least the next 10 years. Merry Christmas!

Hmm...probably have a bottle in a different stage of development. This wine is somewhere between primary and secondary phase.Still Shut down after slow ox, after an hour decant. No a lot of change on day two. Day 3 some development. Not a bad wine. Juicy, some dark fruit and mocka, Finish is lacking imo. Not sure if this is gonna reveal much more of its self. I think the remaining wine will become a luxurious red wine sauce

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #117; Bordeaux St. Julien except Léoville wines.... (By VD and @ VD): Expressive and intense bouquet with dark berries, graphite, vanilla and some earthy impressions. On the palate ripe dark berries, oak, sweet spices, beautiful and juicy acidity and round, supple tannin. The wine has entered its maturity stage and is really beautiful now (and the next 3 - 5+ years).

Opened and let stand for about an hour. On first taste, was still closed but as time passed, this wine developed into a beautiful, semi-mature classic bordeaux. Very pleased indeed. Not sure if more progression will happen and firmly think this is in a prime drinking window at the moment. Enjoy!

2006 Left Bank Red Bordeaux, with Richard Brazier (Handford Wines, London): Definitely softer than the rest of the 2006s we had along with it. Rustic, old school, dark fruits, cedar, leather. Soft on the palate, good fruit, tannin is evident but on the round side. Young and just about in its drinking cycle and almost approachable. Needs decanting for sure. 90 and maybe will be a 91-92 with age

Expressive nose of earth, cedar, spice and black fruit, gravelly and a bit dusty, floral lift, good depth; the palate is supple, silky even, not particularly concentrated but charming and with a lovely balance, flavours of crushed red berries and a hint of new oak, velvety tannins providing gentle grip; good resonance and length. Nice wine, drinking well now - 2026. At restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL.

Six years since my last bottle and a marked improvement. Popped and poured and still good right from the git-go. Aromas of tobacco, cedar, tart berry; light to med. body with flavors of herb/dill, tobacco, tart berry, earth. Light and elegant.

I really enjoyed this wine, but for the price I had higher expectations. Very feminine and almost Burgundian in style. However, the sweet tobacco, cedar, and pencil shavings gave it away to its provenance. An elegant expression of Bordeaux that has fully resolved & sweet tannin, but not much stuffing, lacking fruit concentration to knock your socks off. Would go better with chicken than beef. Good, but not great.
Pleased as punch we listened to the people at the Chateau and bought more than a lot of this luvly. Yes, she is not the powerhouse vintage year of 2005, but she is sexy and seductive with scarlet red on the eye, sweet cherries and herbal spice on the nose and elegant, subtle tannins to match its upper middle-weight body. We can see sipping over the next 10+ years..happily!
Talbot is like an old friend who went a separate way but always returns to Provide good tidings and consistency. Never overly exciting but always steady. The 2005 offers more texture and fruit. The 2006, in 375, starts out a bit off balance, showing a tiny bit of green and a bit too much leathery tannin. But after an hour in the decanter, the wine warms up and mellows quite a bit, expressing classic St Julien tones albe they in unsubtle form unlike some of the more refined estates. The often rich Talbot flavors are not there, but some velvet, dark cherry, wet, moldy leaves and moist wood appear. Could use a year or two more before final judgement.

Decanted for 30 minutes and much like all classic made. Needs its time to breath. Not much in terms of sediment at this stage. The nose is classic Bordeaux, blackcurrants, light cedar, light peppery nose. The palate is soft and the tannins are mostly silky barring a few harsh edges here and there and a bit bitter on the finish. All in all felt like a much older wine and should be now well in to drinking window and probably best to be enjoyed sooner than later. Good wine but not great. 89-90

Predominance of cedar on the nose, with some licorice and dark fruit. Well-balanced and good with food. I don't think there is much point laying this one down any longer. Leather, grippy tannins on the finish.

Not as flashy or showy as some producers in st julienne have been recently, but it is elegant nose, of dark currants, pencil, hint of fresh herbs and earthy tones, elegant and smooth in the the mouth with a similar flavour as the nose with a nice mineral hit on the mid palate

Consistent with last note. Sure no blockbuster or hammer. But in times when too many wines are produced very broad and alcoholic, it is a real pleasure to drink a fine, lean and neat claret like this one.
One of the best '06s I've had. Smoky, cassis fruit laced with gunpowder, lean, balanced, fine. Doesn't seem to suffer the lack of stuffing that others do. Long, harmonious. A great drink. Will keep
Overperforming compared to expectations. Salt licorice in the nose, but developing complexity during the evening. The lean style is very appealing, this was our first (but not last) Talbot.
En Primeur Bdx. 2014 tasting event, reference wine from producer from older vintage, tasting pour, short note. Among the finer 06’s I have had lately. Had to get a refill, and enjoyed this. Nose has some fine oak and smoke, cedar and tobacco notes, fine red berries, black berries, cassis, and a touch of Medoc soil. Palate is very pleasant, balanced, medium in both size and weight, but lovely and classic. Shows some early maturity with drying fruit, leather, soil and fine acidity. Far from peak yet, but has started to really enter a nice phase. I believe this will continue to develop in a very good way for another 5 years before entering peak. Classic and fine stuff, indeed, the way a proper Bdx. should taste and behave. (89 – 91)
Appearance: Clear wine with a medium garnet colour.
Nose: Clean nose with a medium+ intensity. This wine is clearly developing and has some way to go yet.
Black cherries and strawberries on the nose, sweet biscuits, vanilla and nutmeg spice. Some chalky minerality but as an undertone.
Palate: Alcoholic: Medium Tannins: Medium + Acidity: Medium+ Body: Medium Intensity: Medium+ Finish: Medium+
The palate is more savoury than the nose, starting to move into dried fruit, leather and tobacco. Oak is not as pronounced and creates a pleasant harmony in the wine.
Good Quality Bordeaux, premium priced. Can drink now but developing and should drink well for many more years. A little underwhelming considering the price but I would be interested to come back to this in a few years.
Drank at Punch bowl Inn, Lake District. Not much time to decant but did open after an hour. Nose of dark fruits, hints of coffee and cedar. Full bodied, still some tannins. Enjoyable but perhaps because of lack of decanting not exceptional.
Very gamey nose with toast, nutmeg and blackberries. It has med+ acidity, with high but gentle tannin and a medium body. Some sour cherry on the palate that leads into a long finish.
Dark ruby with garnet hues. Attractive nose with dark fruit like dark cherry and plum, earth, smoke and some light cedar notes. Medium body with less flavor than you would expect. Fine mouthfeel, a bit on the light side body, plummy with medium finish and soft to medium tannins. 89-90

Buying Talbot is like driving a roller coaster. Therefore I stopped it with this vintage some years ago. But at least it's a happy ending as this is far better than expected. Already reached it's full ripeness. Cacao, tobacco, leather. Very silky tannins. In the finish perhaps a little diluted.

Tasted alongside the 1998 and 2011. This was quite similar to the 1998, but seemed weaker and less complex. It had a nice mouthfeel, some complexity (mostly secondary notes, the fruit was somewhat weaker than expected) and a pretty nose, but I don't think it will reach the same level as the 1998 did. 4 bottles of each were opened and tasted at the tasting, with similar results. I don't see this improving much, it already seemed older than it was.

Bordeaux 2006 from Magnum (Tanglin Club wine circle, Singapore): Medium garnet. This had the most classic Medoc nose of the night. Well rounded aromas of cassis, cedar wood, slightly prominent on the oak though. While not very strong on the mid palate it was very balanced and pleasant to drink. The tannins were soft as well. I drank this wine a few weeks later from bottle. While the aromas were consistent there was much less fruit and a bit drying tannins in this bottle. 88-91

Blackcurrant nose with red apple brightness, salt liquorice, leather, beans, coffee and dusty wood. Quite full bodied and concentrated palate with velvety tannins. Meaty texture with adequate acidity carrying the fruit. Prominent but still somewhat elegant oaking for the style and size. Sulfur bite in the aftertaste. Ripe and extracted style. Not that elegant. Still a solid Medoc just not very nice interpretation of St.Julien. Hold.

Two bottles consumed with roast lamb over Easter Sunday lunch; things could not have been set up better for the enjoyment of this claret. I was therefore colossally disappointed when the wine fell a substantial distance short of spectacular. A rather muted nose was followed by a relatively smooth mid-palate that promised much more than the finish delivered. The tannins were very dry and bitter and any fruits were almost impossible to discern. Not what I was looking for in a St Julien, where some degree of easy-drinking charm should be guaranteed, and especially not a Talbot, which should a crowd-pleaser even if it's rarely an award-winner. Maybe it will improve with time. I hope so, but won't be wasting any more money to find out.

Chateau Talbot Masterclass with Jean-Pierre Marty (Caveau Wine & Bar, Shaw): Alcohol :: 13% Pretty tight on the nose, blackberry, graphite and pencil shaving. Medium bodied, not bad from the start to the mid palate, quite delicate and rounded with good richness and done complexity. However, the later end there is this alcohol heat and drier tannin kick in that took away some purity and balance which leads to the slightly bitter, dry medium length finish.

Previous notes apply. Another outstanding bottle. Deep rich dark color with great aromas reflecting terroir of St. Julien. Consistent with their style of dark chocolate, mocha, etc. Consistency is the key here. This bottle, however, did not seem to be shutting down as one previous bottle hinted.

Terroir on the initial nose with herbaciousness, mocah dust, tobacco, some oak, some chalky tannins, minerality. Agree somewhat rustic but not like many St. Julien's. Garnet to a translucent wide rim. Bold legs and body on the glass and medium body on the palate. Palate of dark fruit and chocolate, mild acidity and integrated tannins. Nice mouth feel good texture. While young it is going to not have an extended life. 5-7 years at best. Approachable but seems like it is trying close down.

Definitely a bit early opening but quite good none-the-less. There is no mistaking this for some Napa grape juice. Previous reviews have described this is "rustic". I guess I can see that as there is substantial earthy aromas and tannins to greet you. But a kiss of red fruits keep this balanced. I'm certain a few years will equal a few more points.

Opened and alllowed to breath in the cellar for over 2 hours. A dark ruby in the glass, with impressive legs and a nose of cassis, licorice, and blackberry. The nose was almost camphoraceous. The palate was dominated by cedar, which I somewhat like, the fruit struggling to peek through; also a touch of green and excellent acidity. Negligible tannins while consuming with a steak, but slightly drying tannins when finished on its own. Quite 'sleek' on the palate, not rough or open-knitted at all. Medium-bodied with average intensity, this may improve with more time.

Firm with dense fruit and fine, chewey, iron tannins. Blood, berry, and some chocolate/coffee notes. Long mineral finish and a bit of acid. This should mature well with enough fruit to make it enjoyable but not as big as some other recent vintages. That said, it's a bit monolithic. B-

Noe urter og krydder. Ingen paprika. Rund og aromatisk i munnen, masse mørk frukt. Medium konsentrasjon. Sensuell og elegant for å være bdx, men mangler litt trøkk til maten som forøvrig var en sadel av sau med rotgrønnsaker og rødvinsaus laget på fårekraft. Greie tanniner og god lengde. Litt sedertre i finishen også. Prøv igjen i 2026.

90-91pts.

Nose: Clean nose with a medium+ intensity. This wine is clearly developing and has some way to go yet.
Black cherries and strawberries on the nose, sweet biscuits, vanilla and nutmeg spice. Some chalky minerality but as an undertone.
Palate:
Alcoholic: Medium
Tannins: Medium +
Acidity: Medium+
Body: Medium
Intensity: Medium+
Finish: Medium+
The palate is more savoury than the nose, starting to move into dried fruit, leather and tobacco. Oak is not as pronounced and creates a pleasant harmony in the wine.
Good Quality Bordeaux, premium priced. Can drink now but developing and should drink well for many more years. A little underwhelming considering the price but I would be interested to come back to this in a few years.

Pretty tight on the nose, blackberry, graphite and pencil shaving. Medium bodied, not bad from the start to the mid palate, quite delicate and rounded with good richness and done complexity. However, the later end there is this alcohol heat and drier tannin kick in that took away some purity and balance which leads to the slightly bitter, dry medium length finish.

BR 2009 Bordeaux En Primeur Tasting (London): Earthy, mulchy nose. Leafy blackcurrant and good freshness but maybe a bit rustic for a classed growth?

The color was deep red. The bouquet was mild but present. This was a nicely balance, very drinkable wine. It had a lovely balance between fruit and astringency that I like so much in this level of Left Bank Bordeaux. It was a good value.

Sherry-Lehmann Advanced Wine Class (Bordeaux) (Sherry-Lehmann Gallery): Dark, ruby red color. Spicy dark fruits and oak on the nose. This is much more accessible than some of the other '06's tasted, with spice, black currant, plums, and oak. Very good acidity, tannins not overwhelming.

Firm and rustic wine. This is Talbot as I know it; not too elegant but offering real bite and, when given enough time, enough complexity. Good juice, tannin, oak and acidity. Drink from 2015 onwards. 88+

Evenly dark. Round nose with crushed dark berries, toast, caramel, cherry jam. Med.+ body, ripe, oak-dominated, but rather fruity and with adequate acidity. Black berries, some minerality. Prunes in the finish. Ripe fruity aftertaste, slightly spicy. Not bad at all, if you like the style, but lacks character, methinks.

Union des Grand Cru Tasting (Lighthouse (Pier 61, Chelsea Piers)): At UGC Grand Tasting in New York. Met expectations. The 06 of this wine may turn out to be a nice value. The price will need to come down a little bit. Some good complexity, but nothing too special. A fine effort, but the 05 left me a bit disappointed.
