  • Fantastico! Could easily got more years.

  • This has moved on quite a bit over last couple of years in a positive way. The character is very similar with strong earthy tones on the nose with balsamic & dark cherry but has put in some weight and added some balance. Bags of character on the palate with ripe, dusty tannin, high acid all in good balance. While you could hold onto this for many more years, personally I think another couple of years swill see this enter prime drinking window.

  • During a GE/AUT blind tasting, pirate wine. Expressive nose of torrefaction, clay, rich but not oxidative. Strong tannins still but of good quality.

  • - Blind, as a pirate at a GE/AUT tasting
    - Very red fruity, light roasted flavours, roses, clear but too much tannins on the palate. The potential for a wine with great complexity/deepness and not too much wood is absolutely there.

  • Tremendous depth of fruit. Savory notes with a deep palate of dark fruits and some leather, Very young, but enjoyable both with food and without. Score is for potential after a more years, probably needs 4 plus.

  • Yet too young. Great potential. Strong and long taste with a lot of spicy flavours. Presumably best to start drinking in 2027

  • Drank from a magnum over the course of two days. Flat at first but comes to life after a few hours. Cherry, plum, rose, and mineral. Softer than a Barolo but still loads of stuffing for the long haul. Conterno is a master.

  • seemed more flat in flavor profile than 2 years ago.
    Less body.

  • Nervi tasting by Tenuta P90: Quite reserved on the first pour but became more expressive after half an hour in the glass. Similar to the 2018 basic Gattinara but with purer red fruit, silkier tannins and thankfully more structure that brought me back to Nebbiolo rather than new-school Grenache. Most classic expression of Piedmont out of the three wines, and just showing only a glimpse of its potential now.

  • With homemade pizza. Decanted for 1 hour. Singing so balanced and amazing pure fruit and structure that is so harmonious.

  • Well balance wine with a dusty dry tannins. Slightly muted on the nose with hint of red fruits and mineral backbone. Palate is well balanced. Definitely would have benefit from a long decant. Revisit at least 5 years later.

  • Medium ruby to medium garnet–almost "old" in appearance, cherry, earth, iron, and hints of bubble gum on the nose, round (surprisingly) on the attack but fills in at the mid-palate with spiced red fruit, earth, medium plus acidity and relatively mild tannins, finishes with more red fruit, salami, dusty tannins, leather, spice, floral notes and lingering dried "pasty" fruit flavors

Note: it's a solid wine but was maybe expecting a little more, particularity of this vintage and at this price point

  • Saturday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Pop and pour (the only correct treatment for young nebbiolo). Bright red cherry fruit on the nose, with a lovely herbal perfume as well. The palate is light and youthful, and very juicy as well. Good density -- served blind, this would readily pass for a proper Barolo. Youthful and very enjoyable now, but this will definitely be able to go the distance.

  • On the nose -Iron, earth, beef jerky, forest floor, crushed flowers, red currant, tar, bright balsamic vinegar. Concentrated and tight on the palate but the overall package is more reminiscent of a well-structured Pinot. Really dirty (in a good way!), earthy and characterful - like the regular bottling but with everything dialed up a little. Juicy, acidic fruit on the finish. I think another 4-5 years will see this develop fantastically but part of me doubts how well this will age beyond that. Feels like there is a slight hole in the mid-palate but that will be an issue in the long-run but am uncertain at this point. Fascinating wine regardless.

  • The second vintage of Roberto making both Crus (after 2014) with the temporary label and the prominent 'Nervi' name on the bottle. From 2018 on the label is different, it's the very first vintage where Roberto stands 100% behind all the wines, with all details controlled, according to his way of crafting, from the vineyard to the bottling.
The 2016 'Molsino' is all florals and minerals, in a coolish, stirring and elegant way. The nose is loaded with a bright berry blast, ferrous notes, potting soil, chalk as well as distinct red and also pale florals. On the palate a tightly woven, high structure clearly shows the essence of this finessed, bright, vivid Nebbiolo. The tannins are velvet and nearly buried in the aggregate of all details. Brambly red flowers & berries, candied cherry, white pepper, wet asphalt, ashen stone, undergrowth & twigs and again a deep minerality provide an intense, clean, cool and almost burgundian experience on the palate. Only topped by the 2016 'Valferana' and both 2018 Crus, so far, IMO.

  • Under the disgracefully inconsistent cork, note made over 2 days, wine not decanted (why am I so slack?), tasted using a Riedel Bordeaux shape (because after much experimentation I have come to agree with those who say it is the shape that works best). Please, please do not use an ISO or Burgundy shape. Each distorts Nebbiolo. Yes, the Burg glass brings up aromatics and yes, Barolo makers see their wines in Burg terms, but the shape also diffuses the fruit in the mouth and brings to the fore (and they don't need to be helped) the bracing tannins of the Neb grape. The ISO shape (also the similar Riedel Shiraz) is simply horrendous. It compacts the aromatics to create an impression of a chunky and closed wine and then it also delivers a panzerkiel of tannin to the palate. So, if you are thinking of using these shapes, or someone offers these shapes to you, just don't do it! Don't be that person. Stand up for all that is right and good and just and Neb and carpe shapem. Use extreme degrees of physical violence if necessary. Think in Nietzschian terms. The superman accepts not the wrong shape glass. God (all shapes for neb that are not Bordeaux) is dead. Thus spake Nebothustra.

Right, that out of the way, onto the wine. Let's start by saying this is from a splendid vintage and it is also proof that very fine Neb can be made outside of Barolo. In this case, like Langhe, it isn't that far outside.

The colour is quite deep and with good concentration to the rim as you tilt the glass. it has that usual Neb hint of brick at the edge. It means nothing compared to what it would mean in most other grapes.

Nose is potent, heady and gives a rush. I understand why one reviewer on this site gave the wine 100, but much as I love this wine and I like the review, this is not a 100 point wine. However, it is damned sexy and may loose the dance of 1000 stiffies, leading to a certain amount of blood loss to the brain. On joy (not a Nietzschian term) I could score this at damned close to 100, but I am for misery first and foremost and so, damp squib like, I insist on reining in the score.

The palate delivers concentrated flavours of great length, as per the nose; I get strawberry, definite tar and smoke and rose like perfume. Might some find the strawberry a bit too prominent? I am good with it and the wine has tremendous balance for a young Neb, courtesy of the gorgeously ripe tannins that characterise this year. Will 2019 be similar?

I may well have been a bit mean on my scoring, but I do rate this wine as 'Outstanding' on the CT scale. It will cellar superbly for many years but decanted, or opened two days, it will deliver pleasure; jowl stroking, purring and shapely come hither type handling pleasure. My thanks to the previous two reviewers who have both done a fine job of reviewing this wine.

  • Pure Spirits 1st grand tasting (George Lycabetus Hotel): Fresh, fruity, cherry, currant, red fruit, floral notes, smooth in its core, welcoming
Palate is tight but smooth but for a high end Nebbiolo, medium acidity, fresh red fruit, cherries, medium body and finish

  • Needs a few hours and food to show well. This is way too young, but it has impeccable balance and can be broached if you want to see what it's all about.

Aromas of cherry preserves, prunes, tobacco, licorice, vanilla, sweet roses, rust, alpine breeze, diverse spices, a little pepper and roasted meat. Imposing on the palate, with layers of grippy tannins, though the acidity is relatively easy-going for Gattinara, and there's sweet succulent fruitiness through the finish. Extraordinary length and intensity, but I'm going call it broody and tough. This will take many years to mellow. Should be brilliant at age 20.

  • Excellent wine!
Oh, man, I can’t believe it is this great!
Insanely good producer makes exceptional wine!

Nose: Oaky, red berries, smoky, minerality, rose petal, and spice.

Palate: The wine is a real masterpiece. We are talking about perfection here. Lighter body than Barolos with super smooth tannin. The aroma is so so beautiful. And then, it ends with beautiful salty minerality.
    Perfect!
I want 6 bottles more of this!
