Pale tawny color. Pronounced aromas of raisin, fig, caramel, white chocolate, roasted hazelnut, almond, walnut, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla. High alcohol, sweet, med(+) acidity, full body, low, soft tannins, long finish. Complex, nutty and tasty. Better served a little chilled.

Clear shimmering golden brown which hues the visions on the other side of the glass. Nose is shy, cookie batter with alcohol. The taste, dryish, more old old Madeira than Port, a wisp of brown toffee sugar remaining to entice the sweet tooth. Too, too subtle for the young Tawny Port inexperienced tasters; better left to those seeking a refined Tawny Port in the storm of life or death.

Another bottle 12 months later. Possibly or probably a different bottling and blend. I may have been a little exuberant scoring the last bottle. Very pale. Glazed and spice. Loads of rancio flavors. Palate is rich and fresh. I love the balance of acidity & sweetness. Tertiary and rancio flavors. Elegant.

Rarely do I drink Fortified wines. This year the goal is one a month to ensure I enjoy one a rare pleasure. Pale tawny salmon. Moderate lift. Wonderful high tone brandy spirit along with a mix of raisin and rancio. The palate is sweet, warming and full of rancio flavors. Corn chips and stewed dried cranberries and cherries. Only medium bodied.

Sammamish Port Club - August 2019 (Sammamish, Washington): Bottled in 2016. Clear, amber-orange in color. Slightly subdued nose. Some rose petal notes. Apricot, orange peel. Unctuous, bright acidity. Long finish with good acidity and sweetness.

Tasting of Sandeman Ports at Quinta do Seixo (Quinta do Seixo, Douro Valley, Portugal): A quite drinkable tawny. Decent rather than great though. I must say it smelt really good, with fresh scents of red fruit and raisins and flowers laced with more woody tawny port accents. A really nice, fresh bouquet. It was a clear step up from the rather forgettable Sandeman 10-year old on the palate too. Richer and slightly more complex, it showed notes of maraschino cherry liqueur, bruised figs and walnuts, running into rather chalky finish, where a touch of tannins asserted themselves. A tad short, and a tad simple, but otherwise pleasant enough.

I found the nose a bit soft, offering raisin, caramel and nutty aromas, but the sweet and very smooth medium-bodied palate is vibrant and full of life with lovely oak spices, caramel, brown sugar and hazelnut flavours lifted by bright acids on the mid-palate. Light orange in color, this fortified wine revealed smoke, dried cherry, orange rind and creme brulee on the nose. The mouth feel brought raisins, caramel, dried figs and vanilla to the sweet, juicy tannins. The finish was medium-long in length with added notes of orange zest, keeping the heat in check. 20% abv. Bottled in 2015.
Purchased for $38US, this is a thoroughly enjoyable 20 year tawny that held up well for the five days it was open and tasted daily.

Surprisingly light. Very mild heat. Crisp apricot, mellow caramel, orange blossom, toasted marshmallow. Allspice. Nose of pumpkin pie spice. Interesting for a 20. I'd almost call it a "mulled Sauternes."

“Port”, Flight 2, Wine 2: The wine was light to medium Tawny in colour and had good intensity on the nose, with dried apricot, toffee, hazelnut, spices, vanilla and chanterelle. On the palate the wine showed dried apricot, toffee, nuts, spices and vanilla. It was sweet, with medium-level acidity, moderate heat from the alcohol and good to very good length. The medium-bodied, delicate wine was reasonably balanced. I liked it; my favourite Tawny of the tasting.

less fruit on the nose than the 10, some tobac plus xmas pudding really quite sweet but with a good orangey tang, fresh fruit notes of walnuts very very long and complex Superb mixture of old and new here. Lots of fruit but also huge complexity. Excellent, great value too whisper of young wines here - romantic

Predominantly fig, but golden raisin, orange, and a little sherry like oxidation also dominate the palate. Secondary characteristics of cherry, tea, honey, and burnt caramel. After about 5 days in, I get a really nice chocolate texture and flavor, bitter almond, and fresh peach. This seemed a bit disjointed, but it grew on me over time.
Great match with roasted apples, dried bananas, dried apricots, and fruitcake, but also good on its own.

A fresh style of tawny Port, the Sandeman 20 Year shows more fruit than other 20 year townies I am familiar with (Graham's, Taylor, Fonseca) and only develops the nuttiness with extended airing. I like the overall style, it's just a bit shocking based on what I have tried in the past.

The bottle was opened on Thanksgiving Day and I had a small pour each day until I finished it. 20% abv. Somewhat darker amber in color. Prune, dried apricot and nuts on the nose. Dried fruits, caramel and toffee on the palate (nuts not obvious on the taste buds.) This Port is not overly sweet but more in the style of a dryer Tawny such as the Cockburn that I like. I enjoyed sipping it with a couple Werther's Chewy Caramels or on its own after dinner. Very enjoyable.

On New Year's Eve I opened a Sandeman 20-Year Tawny Port bottled in 2010. 20% abv. Leggy. Dark amber color with transparency. Caramel, nuts and faint wood such as shake shingles on nose. Caramel and orange peel on the palate. Some prune notes present but not as dominant as in some Tawny Ports. I love that this is laid back and mellow and smooth--not feeling hot from the alcohol content.

Not much experience with port, but always enjoyed, this 20 year old tawny knocked my socks off and makes me thirsty for more. The deep dark fruit with acidity balanced with sweetness was most appreciated. In fact, I served this up to a good friend (who has launched the occasional harsh regarding my "bourgeois" avocation) and he has since learned to temper his approach when th drinking is good.
If this port is not so great per many of my CT compadres, please share your recommendations for port in the same price range!

Amber color. Bouquet of figs, candied oranges, baking spices, wood putty, toasted almonds, smoke, and a whiff of nail polish remover. The aromas carry over to the palate with additional flavors of toffee, orange rind, caramel, stonefruit, walnuts, and a layered, mineral-inflected finish. Great length without an abundance of heat. Excellent.

Tasted over six days. The first third of this bottle was shared with friends paired with Rogue River Bleu Cheese. That pairing was simply magical. These two items seemed to be created for each other. One person in the group was firmly anti-bleu, and after tasting with this, he found some ground that he could enjoy the cheese.
The wine over the first couple of days showed a bit of fumes on the nose along with almonds and some orange. By itself especially on the first two days it showed so much complexity that it would stop you in your tracks. Layers of sweet, nutty components which dazzle the palate. Amazing length.
The second half of this journey showed the caramel and nuts coming to the forefront. This has displayed tremendous acidity throughout and a sneaky lemon/orange note will peek in at you periodically. Good tannins throughout, but noticeably integrated on the last few days. The final night brings a honeyed creme brûlée flavor which is just a delight.
Very pale amber in colour (guess it has been a while since I have had a 20yr old!). The first few sips taste like drinking liquid caramel. Very sweet, almost too much. But after a while, other flavours emerge - dried fruit, nuts, brown sugar. But the sweetness is really almost overdone. Very good, but only to be taken in small quanitities. Bottled in 2008.

- Lighter color then one might expect and because of which I might have been biased into thinking it felt a bit lighter in the mouth then others. - sweet nutty nose with fig - flavors of dried fruit with honey and candied pecans - appreciable acidity - overall a straightforward, unassuming 20yr

I was a little concerned about the "keepability" of this wine, but not to worry. We finished almost the whole bottle on the first night, paired with a pear ginger crumble after a dinner of cioppino and a fabulous cheese plate. Lovely.

The high-toned heat I found on the 10 year has dissipated in this 20 year, and it picks up the beginnings of smoked honey and oaky kitchen spice that become even more obvious and intricate in the 30 and 40 year versions. This is way too easy to drink, with a smooth and elegant finish, and would be my go-to of all of the Sandeman tawnies, given the QPR.

Bottled in 2007. We spent about 3 weeks on this bottle from start to finish. One of the things I like about these Tawny Port wines is that you can pop the stopper and then drink it over a fairly long period of time without much noticeable change in the wine itself. I've had several different 20 year Tawny's over the past 6 months or so and as I work my way through the different houses, there are some I certainly prefer over others. While on the slightly lighter side in terms of color, texture and overall impact on the palate, the Sandeman still delivers all the goods you would expect from a 20 but just falls short in delivering the wow element. It's good, and certainly better then several other 20s I have had, but my preference goes to the Taylor 20 over this one.

A good port just a little on the light side. Nice light amber in color, nose of toasted almonds, fig and dark cherry. I was ready for a wonderful experience based on the recommendations I have received from friends but ended up disappointed. Don't take me wrong this is a fine 20yr, it's just that it is just that, OK. I keep wanting the bottle to grow over the week (as it aired out) but it just continued to mellow. Lacked the fullness to be mentioned with the best 20yrs.

Imported by Pernod Ricard USA, Purchase, NY.

On current form this is benchmark 20 year old. Nice bright colour--ruby to orange. Orange, hazelnut and prune on the nose. The palate shows concentration and fresh acidity. Only medium sweet. This has a presence; almost an assertive confidence.

less fruit on the nose than the 10, some tobac plus xmas pudding
really quite sweet but with a good orangey tang, fresh fruit
notes of walnuts very very long and complex
Superb mixture of old and new here. Lots of fruit but also huge complexity.
Excellent, great value too
whisper of young wines here - romantic

Wow- what a wine.
