A small gathering at Bryan's (Bryan's place): Golden color, significantly darker than the 10 Blanchot. Medium expressive nose displaying very ripe sweet yellow fruit, peach, baked apple, caramel, a hint of mint, honey, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, packed very ripe yellow fruit, dense, rich and deeply toned, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium long very ripe yellow fruit driven finish with caramel and sweet spices at the end. I suspect this may be a bit further advanced than a properly cellared bottle. Very rich and a bit cloying and tired.

Our last bottle of this had been in 2016 and this bottle had been submerged in the notorious 2011 Flood leaving its traces in a blackened cork with mud caked under the capsule. Despite all of this the wine opened beautifully with a colour of crystalline straw and a nose of green apples, lemon, lime and pineapple. There are touches of hay, honey and boiled sweets. The palate was multi-dimensional and pure with clear acid cut and great mineral finish. There was plenty of depth and cut yet with the touches of honey and pine/lime splice there was a finesse and balance that was quite striking. A couple of summer days in the cool muddy waters of the Brisbane River has done no harm to this bottle !

At nearly 20 years old this is in a perfect spot, and one of the best Chablis I've ever drunk. Lemon and lime notes prevail with clean crisp flavours on the palate and finish, but with an incredible creaminess and butteriness giving a sumptuous decadence. Even at its present price I still found it great value for what it delivers. As per a fellow reviewer's advice I gave this 2 hours in the decanter and this seemed just right.

I have such a thing for Raveneau and frankly I might be a little stingy with a score of 97 on the 02 Valmur. This is so profoundly delicious. All the classic Rav stuff - lemon, brine, lime, cream, so intense but caressing. Ah. When you can't have summertime in New England, you can still have Rav.

None of the variability mentioned below thankfully. Light golden color just barely beginning to show darkening - at 16 years! Just gorgeous, clean and fresh yet stuffed with exotic elements of white truffle, vanilla frosting, coconut oil, hazelnut. Just ethereal, so light on its feet yet loaded. Yum.

Incredibly fresh and youthful. Great nose of iodine, citrus, toast, orange blossom and flint. It is super rich and detailed in the mouth. It is so direct with a strict line of minerality. There is a light drizzle of honey just starting to soften the sharp acid finish. Brilliant Chablis!

This is a gift of a well-kept barn, rock, lemon meringue pie, and coconut water. The sheer amount of rock in this glass is astounding without the least bit of austerity.
One of the most memorable sensory moments of my life.

Glorious wine of tremendous depth. Stayed with it for hours in the glass, and it was delightful from first to last. This wine is "open for business" so enjoy today, but is in no danger of slipping away if you're hanging on to some bottles. Highly recommended.

Pale yellow, lustrous. Lovely sweet lemon curd, cottage cheese and honeysuckle. Perfectly balanced, long refund palate with a crisp resonating finish. Honeysuckle and lemon curd, some real zinging mineral intensity. Fabulous. Would have lived another 10 but still happy I opened it.

Raveneau Dinner (Young and Mid-Aged Wines) (Les Nomades - Chicago IL): Tasted blind at Raveneau dinner, in what turned out to be a 2002 Grand Cru flight. While the Clos in the next glass was powerful but understated, this was overtly powerful, with intense concentration and minerality. I don't have the experience to differentiate Valmur from Blanchots (some day....) but this was clearly a blockbuster just hitting its stride.

7 Vintages of Raveneau Valmur 2000 to 2007 (ex 2003) (Vin, Vino, Wine): Beautiful blend of lemon, oyster shell, sea brine and honeyed chalkiness on the nose. This is a wow wine, really singing and just compelling to sit and savor. Deep, broad and powerful flavors balanced perfectly by some unreal acidity and cut, this has a ton of energy. The most acidic of the 7 vintages, but balanced by killer fruit. This finishes long and juicy, and was the favorite wine by a landslide (9 out of 10 first place votes).

Lanolin, oyster shell on the nose; texturally very rich for Chablis. Shows a bit more fruit than it did over the last two years, but still feels like it has a lot more to give in another 10 years down the road; incredible balance and very precise.

My 40th birthday (Blairgowrie): Gave nothing to indicate how mind blowing this wine was to be after the first taste. Very backward but with 5 or so minutes of air time.....bingo! This was I think the most complete Chablis I have ever tasted and at $100 the bargain of the century it is that good. Reticent at first, then it unwinds, is still tight as a drum but packed full of mineral peachy flavoring as long and as detailed as I've ever seen in a Chablis. Like skiing through waist deep powdered snow such is the gushing effect this has on the palate. I would say that it will keep for ages but is so good now why bother hanging onto it. If you love pure racy tight minerally Chablis it doesn't get any better than this. Suave and elegant with so much class this has got to be one of the all time great vintages for Chablis.

Beautiful nose of rich limestone, intense citrus and minerals. A simply gorgeous wine that's still way too young but shows incredible minerality. Full-bodied with intense limestone flavors and mouth-watering acidity that build to a concentrated spicy minerally finish. Really dense and sappy with a purity of texture and flavor. Should be out of this world in 5 years. 96+

Raveneau Tasting (Pike & Western, Seattle, WA): While the nose was fairly closed I was able to coax out some cinnamon. The palate was so thick it seemed a bit oily. I was stunned with the power and explosiveness of the midpalate and finish. It literally exploded in my mouth. The finish was the longest finish of any young, dry wine I have tasted before.
