Served blind. Called for Poyeux late 90s / early 00s. Not far off. The fact that I went for Poyeux shows that this wine delivered maybe more on the velvet finesse side rather than the punchy side. Its totally ready to drink now, it continuously evolves in glass and in bottle, a great wine.

Date night @ Park90: This went through a 4 hour decant and I had the privilege to taste a bit of this. Red fruits, sour cherries, bell pepper, spices, smoked olives, dried forest, earthy. Nice long warm bell pepper finish. Balanced, gentle, in fact, rather Burgundian. Savoury and complex. Very lively. Great stuff.

eminently drinkable, with an extremely long and pleasant after-taste which seems to gain miraculously in dark-fruit flavor. there's a hint of oak but it's been integrated well. not the most powerful and not even all that complex but the transparency of the fruit and the pleasure of the after-taste make it a truly great wine.

Loire Tasting and Dinner (Traci's pad, Rockridge): Big nose with green olives, black fruits, and some funky, meaty aromas jumping out of the glass. Thick chewy palate replete with black fruits, more olive, roasted meat, tobacco, dried herbs. Fine acidity. The green olive flavors are kind of overwhelming, and overall this is a little greener & less richly complex than the 2001, but i wouldn't kick it out of bed either.

Lightweight for Le Bourg, but quite graceful with its silken texture. Somewhat reminiscent of a Vega Sicilia Valbuena with its aromatic punch of smoked meat and briar, followed by a relatively tender and pliant mouthfeel. There is a slight underripeness to it that manifests itself in a little bit of green, but it feels more like green tobacco that anything vegetal. Finishes with a wisp of smoke and ash.

What a great wine! Was the favorite of our Cab Franc tasting (which also included blends). And this is even from a so-so year. Highly complex, aromatic and light on its feet, but nevertheless with real length and grace. Like a ballerina, really. The 100% new wood is well-hidden, which indicates that this wine is a model of subtle power. And I think this will age extremely well. Unfortunately almost impossible to find.

Clos Rougeard Breze and Le Bourg and some friends (905 Fahrenheit aka 485° Düsseldorf): Both from colour and nose the most developed wine of the day. Reached his top maybe declining. Maybe bottle problem. Still a phantastic wine. 92-93

More aromatic lift. Relatively feminine and light, but also bright. Simply lovely.

Drank at a Rougeard tasting (06, 04, 03, 01 Clos, 04, 03, 01 Poyeux, 00 Bourg).
Black fruits, roasted meats, green olives, green tobacco, the WOTN for me.

lots of dill oak showing up in this bottle that never really went away. underneath, delicious layers of fruit, but overpowered by the wood.
