No seepage but the cork was very squishy. Decanted and tasted over 2 h. Nose of smoke and eventually strawberry. The palate is balanced and very refreshing. Orange peel and some savoury component. Can’t say I’ve come across such a crisp and burg-like finish. Lots of salivating.
Seems like it’s in a great spot right now. I would recommend drinking this now until 2020. Excellent mature flavours. Drink up 14.5% abv

A glass from Coravin at Blue Hill Stone Barns. Really a great aged CDP with wonderful notes of garrigue and sweet earth and delicious dark cherry fruit. The finish is marvelous with a beautifully complex mineral crunch. Classic, traditionally-styled CDP that has aged really well.

Beautiful dark ruby color. The nose was nice, with floral and earthy overtones. Velvety on the palate with some complexity and some remaining structure. An excellent CNP and a relatively good value. It is showing very well now and should be able to stay in the peak zone for a while longer.

Nose of leather and spice, and perhaps some dark fruits in there. The wine was light to medium bodied a fairly pale red color and showing some slight bricking at the edges. Had this with our turkey for Thanksgiving thinking it would be big, bold and fruity enough to hold its own. Turned out to be not such a great choice solely in the context of this particular meal as the wine was far more reserved and elegant than expected, especially coming from what was reputed to be a very ripe vintage, and was a bit overshadowed by the bird and all the heavy side dishes. That said, the wine is a very well made, finely structured CdP with nice dark fruit, mixed with good acidity, and lots of black pepper on the medium to long finish. This a wine to have with a piece of salmon or meat that's not too heavy on the spicy sauces, etc. I do believe this wine is at its peak and don't see much future beyond the next 3-4 years, if that. I'd drink this wine sooner rather than later.

Slight signs of seepage, small amount of liquid under the capsule. Despite limited ullage of under 2 cm, this still showed signs of being overly mature, stewy aromas and flavors and oxidation.

Much less bretty than the last blle from the same lot. That said there was brett. Horsey brett that blew off in a half hour leaving a beautiful traditional CdP. Leather, rare meat, lavender, kirsch, and some green herbs. Rich and supple, round and fleshy with plenty of meaty-savory-feral stuff all rolled into one. An interesting wine that for me is at peak and terribly enjoyable. Well done. 90 pts

2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Tasting Dinner (6 wines) (South Haven, Michigan): Otis brought this wine to our 2000 CdP dinner. This finished 5th among the 5 wines for me but was still very nice. Not decanted but opened to breath 2 hours before dinner. This was another wine which could have used some decanting and was more approachable as the night went on. Solid red purple color. The most acidic of the 5 wines. Notes of tar and elderberry. Medium body with moderate tannins. 87 points.

Mold on top of the cork was not a good sign, and the cork was wet all around and all the way up...bought this bottle from Sabon and maybe it didn't survive our trip around Provence too well. Nevertheless, the wine was drinkable, medium bodied, and not bad, but a bit harsh and generally don't think it was quite right.

The last bottle, this showed well, with fragrant, airy Grenache aromas interwoven with spicy garrigue on the nose. In the mouth this is medium weight, with a healthy acidity and delineation that intensifies the red berry and licorice flavors of the Grenache. At peak now, or perhaps a year or two past, this wine came into its own in the last five years.

A fine jeweled ruby in color with the entire barn thrown in your face. An old horse wearing skin tight aged leather chaps just stepped into a huge cow pattie. Behind the wall of brett...Kirsch and meat/ bloody notes, soem garrigue and berry fruits that were quite nice. The leather and the rest of the barn left over around a half hour, leaving behind a very well made traditional CdP with good midpalate texture and richness. Very good stuff. 89pts

Decanted for an hour. Aromatically this was my wine of the year so far. Strong perfume of leather, dirt, red fruits and chocolate... On the palate a tad disappointing given the aromatics, but still very good. Lots of liquorice, spice with muted blackberries in the background. A bit hollow in the middle - feel a tad watery. Finish is medium, tannins are very soft. Better after 2 hours. Solid for the price.
Price paid: $35 Would I buy again? Probably.

Decanted and filtered leaving a light dusting of sediment in the filter. This wine had a gorgeous flowery nose and considerable forward fruit; but, it took a very long time to open up. After about 3 hours it was drinking wonderfully with a huge complex fruitiness and a very long finish. I plan to wait a couple of years before opening another.

Dark red color with a lightly brown hue. A bit of farm funk on the nose together with shoe polish, tobaco, leather and some red berries. Good intensity over the palate. Raspberry first, more complex notes on the midpalate, particularly pepper and tobaco. At this point a bit unclear in the fruit, but otherwise a nicely balanced wine with fine length. Just showing first signs of maturity, but I don't think it has peaked yet.

This bottle had a low fill and probably experienced some leakage. The nose was dominated by the barnyard, but with some coaxing revealed cherries, anise, and even some melon. The wine has a light, remarkable entry, but the rest of the mouthfeel does not live up. Once in the mouth it is oddly sweet on the palate with an astringent finish. Tasted blind. This wine was red-garnet in color, clear with medium color intensity. The nose was very strong on this wine, with lots of floral and fruit notes or violets, strawberry and cherry, followed by licorice and smoke. Medium to high acidity, smooth tanning and medium to light in body. The flavor intensity was high with notes of anise, cherry and smoked meats. Short to moderate finish
