Found this bottle in cold storage among some spirits. It goes back to a Y2K Hotel Gala event left in my room and totally misplaced. - planned and opened this tonight not sure if it still had gusto. Delicious fruit , still having the sparkle and the traditional nutty and honey comfortable muskiness. A WOW! Dinner with Chilled Jumbo Shrimp , steamed lobster tail and baked fries.

Out of maybe 25-30 aged Champagnes I've tasted in the past 10 years - admittedly not so many, and many more pricey - this one was no question the best. I think this can be attributed to this wine being in the perfect place. It was fully developed, golden and tertiary and well-sherried, also showing ripe fruit, all kept in line by an austere mineral backbone. The pro reviews said this one might blossom and boy did it ever. YMMV - maybe my bottle just dodged all the hazards that can happen along the way. But it easily topped many Dom's and Krug's and others down the ladder from there. Complex in the way that makes you want to slow down over a glass and sniff for an hour, but also so swig-able the bottle dissappeared pretty quickly.

When I was doing an inventory, I found this bottle that I thought I had consumed it a while ago. Happy to have "another" bottle, I pooped this after a long week with my wife out of town. Like the others, it was fairly clear that this was on the downward slope. Incredibly austere with a bit of oxidation, this screams "old" but that is fine with me. I love old champagne and this is no different. But do not wait much longer. Very Good to Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

I had this in the fridge, ready to go on New Year’s Eve, but we never got to it. Probably a good thing as this was certainly barely hanging on. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but then I cherish champagnes that show their age. The sparkle was faint and the oxidation heavy, but I can’t get enough of that musty champagne flavor. thedrunkencyclist.com

Last week I was at a couple tastings with Régis Camus, the Chef de Caves who, when I told him I had a couple of bottles of this he replied "2000? Il faut les boire." So I did. A bit dark and weak on bubbles, but huge on flavor. A bit nutty and some oxidation but this is gangbusters. As in right down the middle of my strike zone. Rich, full, and thought provoking. Can't wait to visit Régis in Reims. Hope he remembers me. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Luminous, somewhat developed lemon yellow color. Upon opening th nose feels somewhat acrid and a bit stuffy - I'm not sure whether the wine is slightly reductive or if it has seen a slightly bigger dose of sulfites - but with some breathing this bottle stink blows off, revealing wonderfully developed tones of toasty autolysis, canned papaya, some honeyed richness, a little bit of waxy character, a hint of lemony curd and a touch of cooked cream. Lovely! The wine is full-bodied, rich and moderately full-bodied yet still lively and energetic on the palate with complex flavors of toasty autolysis, honeyed richness, some ripe golden apple tones, a little bit of developed nuttiness, a hint of steely minerality and a touch of caramel. The wine is high in acidity with very fine, smooth and creamy mousse. The finish is crisp, mineral and focused with lengthy, dry flavors of buttered toast, some chopped nuts, a little bit of exotic spices, light orange marmalade tones and a hint of juicy apple.
A beautifully complex, wonderfully developed and remarkably balanced vintage Champagne that is in a wonderful phase right now. The wine might continue to develop from here, so I am hesitant to say the wine is peaking right now, but it is definitely in a wonderfully mature phase right now and definitely at the heart of its drinking window. Drink or cellar over short-to-medium term. Delicious, highly recommended.

My final bottle. Rich and evolved fullish yellow colour but certainly correct for age, medium-fine bead; mature but not oxidative nose, rather faded aromas, good depth; rounded and mellow on the palate but well-balanced by adequate acidity, light structure as is to be expected from the 2000 vintage, bright citrus fruit and elegant nuttiness; good length. Fully mature and fading, but still retains its freshness for the time being. Looking back, this peaked around 2007/8. Drink up any remaining bottles.

Lovely green-golden colour. Pronounced biscuit on the nose. Apple-based fruit but with noticeably more acidity than the P-H 'Rare' 2002 tasted previously. Softened nicely in the glass, though and was a fine champagne. Would handle food well, I think.

A Champagne tasting (and a Sherry) (My Home): On opening, there was no pop. The bottom part of the cork was soaked but there was no expansion at all. No mousse on pouring although there were slight bubbles in the glass. The wine was oxidized. Shot. Was this a cork failure or a storage failure?

Lovely golden-yellow color. Great fine appearance to the bubbles. Intense and complex nose with toasted notes, yeast, lime; palate has lovely fine bubbles, early palate has mature yeast flavors, quickly transitions to clean minerals, lime, slate; finish is clean, lime, slightly short length. Overall this is refreshing, well made, balanced, light-medium styled, excellent in typicite but perhaps lacking uniqueness. Mature (early maturity?) but with a long life ahead. 91

Signature lemon flanked by granny smith apples, more depth than the NV. Not stellar, but fine. Very fine. It gets the job done, though the finish is not as exciting as the rest. I'm not rushing out to buy more, but I am not disappointed in the purchase. 87-88 pts

Not unlike like my note from October 2010, but much less enthusiastic; much lighter now, both in aroma and in flavour. There is also a hint of nuttiness and the wine comes across as slightly tired. Is it already in decline or is this a less than perfect bottle? The cork was perhaps not as elastic as it could have been. Try again. The next day clearly nutty, with lovely lemon, fully mature but very nice.

Toast, honey, blanched almonds, citrus and carmeled apple. The golden and light amber colour is evoking and warm with some precision is what this structured palate indicates. Full, round, and long. Lovely crispness and she can lay down for quite dome time. Drink now - 2020.

Nice golden color, but not too bubbly. Nice nose of yeast, buttered toast. Palate has powerful full flavors, big yeast at first, some caramel, midpalate has an acidic tart kick, balanced mouthwatering finish which is a bit short. Fully mature. 89-90

Tasting Menu at Meritage (Meritage, St. Paul): Light gold color. Nice nose of minerals, apple, pear, yeast. palate shows crisp acidity, apple, pear, hint of citrus, slightly toasty, yeast. Clean with a long finish. This was a remarkably better bottle than the one we had at a tasting just 3 weeks ago. Both the nose and palate were vibrant and the finish was excellent this go round. It also paired nicely with the oysters. 92+pts.

Tastings at Red Rock: Piper-Heidsieck Champagne (Swampscott, MA): This vintage wine spent 3 years on the lees. This was still an infant and was showing nowhere near it's potential. The nose showed with an intense bread/autolytic/yeast component, followed by lemon curd, apricot, mushroom, and pear. The palate was granny smith apple, underripe plum, toasted rye bread. This was intense, almost fighting with itself. No need to open this now.

Light to medium golden color, with a small bead. Consistent notes of leesy citrus and melon fruits, buttered toast, and mixed nuts. Creamy texture, zippy fruit, and a medium-long finish. Well done. And, I saw this in the duty-free shop at Heathrow for £24 last month.

Brought this to Nanban-Kan to enjoy with dinner. Yeasty, toasty, dry, green apple, round, short finish, medium acidity. We ran into some friends who offered us a glass of their 1997 Salon, and so we drank this side by side. Needless to say, this champagne came up a little short in all of the attributes that make the Salon so delicious. At the end of the day, even though this is not a complex champagne, it is quite decent for the price point.

Third Thursday Champagne Night (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR): The nose is wonderful here, showing wheat bread crusts wrapped around sparkling apples topped with a drizzle of butterscotch. The wheat bread crust hits the palate along with sharp bubbles right out of the gate. As the bubbles settle down, lovely apple flavors come in and become more full as they evolve. Great acid settles in on the sides of the palate as the apples become more rich and some light caramel flavors play from the mid palate onward. The flavors are rich, but the bigger bubbles and the acid dry things out and make the mouth water as the fruit and caramel gently linger for a good amount of time. 93+

Sweet yeasty nose again here, some lemons, buttered toast. Smells quite nice. The mid-palate length here is pretty short but the finish on this wine was long. I liked the way this wine reacted in the mouth. The bubbles are very gentle yet the flavor lingers nicely on the finish for a good length. Solid stuff, my note was kind of short on this one but I really did like this wine a lot.

Vintage Champagne Third Thursday Group (Willamette Wine Storage): About here is where I stopped paying detailed attention to the notes as conversation ensued. Still payed close enough attention to find a quantitative level of enjoyment, but not much else. This I found to have "interesting" aromas, but that's about all. The palate was fantastic though, as it entered quite seductively, though was at the same time was huge, rich, and pleasingly soft. My 2nd place wine of the night, as well as the group's.

NC Cindy tasting. Fairly light color, but good, small effervescence. The nose was overwhelmingly yeasty, like bisquits and bread. There were also some apples and a bit of lemon, with a touch of skunkiness, but they were just touches under the doughiness. On the palate this was highly metallic, like kiwi, but without the lightness. There were significant flavors of lemon zest, as well, with also some egg flavors. Sulphur seemed to be on both the nose and palate. The wine was nevertheless very acidic, and had a long finish. Even so, this seemed to be past its prime. Current retail has this anywhere from $50-$100, and it is nowhere near that good in my view.
Not 100% sure if we had this wine, the Millésimé, or the Blanc des Millénaires. I'm afraid I did not check the bottle carefully before I left the event.

Popped and poured, similar to previous notes, this is a very tasty Champagne that showcases a riper style of crisp stone fruits with biscuit and a touch of oak. However, this showed a touch flabby and appears to have lost a bit of the freshness that initially made it more appealing. Still, tasty stuff and perfect for drinking in the immediate.

Beautiful. Not complicated or flashy, just a prototypical Champagne. More Joe Mauer than Manny Ramirez. Upon popping, we were met with a fresh nose of asian pears and melting butter. Straw notes came out after an hour or so. Vigorous effervescence. Yeasty but rounded, it tasted of equal parts crisp green apple and Eggo waffles. An efficient, workman-like effort, if not a masterpiece.

Thanksgiving 2008 and celebrating my 30th birthday (Mom & Dad's house): Similar notes to last bottle on 11/07/08. This is just excellent Champagne and a relative QPR selection. Have to quickly reiterate how ripe and fresh the fruit flavors are, they really do "pop" on the palate.

Popped and poured. Medium-gold hue. Yeasty, leesy aromas give way to ripe stone fruits, touch of grapefruit zest and pie crust. Medium-plus body, this is lush in mouth with nice concentration. Flavors of ripened fruit, apple dumpling, candied ginger and spice are delicious........the fruit literally pops on the palate. The integration of fruit & acidity is amazingly refined, truly sophisticated. For all the ripe fruit there is never a substantial impression of residual sweetness. An amazing bargain in the world of vintage Champagne and is drinking perfectly right now.
