Lunch at La Trompette (Medlar, London): Firstadte of this, and whilst fully mature, it’s lovely. Mid gold. Rich, gingery nose. Fizz just about evident, and holding on by its fingertips. Surprisingly vital on the palate. Gentle ginger. Mid length. Lovely, but drink up. ****

First bottle of a newly delivered 6 pack was corked. Gutted!! 2nd bottle drunk over 2 nights. Golden color with a lovely mousse, on the nose lemon, brioche, some apple but no oxidation. Nice length on the palate and in the zone so enjoy them if you have any.

From Magnum. Tasted alongside the 08 Coeur de Cuvee. Shockingly, this tasted like the younger wine and was still one of the highlights of the night. Full of verve and energy, sweet apple, soft honey, but loads of ripe lemon also. Fantastic balance on the palate, lovely mousse and fantastic density.

Picked at a perfect time - this is into its fully mature drinking window and drinking very nicely. Has a dark golden color, a beautiful vanilla nose and is honeyed and very smooth. In my opinion only minus is that it comes of as a little sweet, maybe a touch high in dosage.

Just a great bottle of vintage champagne. Great balance, wonderful bead, fresh and yet now oxidized to perfection. I was just blown away at how good this wine was and it wasn't even my last bottle. Time to rummage through your cellars, wine stores and auction sites to find, buy and drink. If you don't I will.

Not sure where I got this... Dug out of the cellar but no purchase data... First Champagne with Christina Gold in colour with pinpoint bubbles. Nose of straw, honey, citrus, bread. Lush and broad on the palate with bright acidity to balance the honey, bready and citrus flavours. Long finish of toast with just a hint of sweetness and citrus. Gorgeous!!

Light gold, very fine mousse. On the nose, quince paste, notes of amontillado (but no nutty notes, that indicate oxidation or wine fault), brioche, butterscotch. I wouldn't have guessed it was fermented and aged in oak as it's so well integrated. Medium plus to high acidity and very long finish with notes of mineral. The cork is still sound, but I wouldn't age it much longer.

I had high expectations in the wine, last time I had it was at my wedding so I had kept it for a special occasion. I was a bit worried about the wine as I had moved it around a few times when moving apartments so tonight I decided it was time to have it as my brother in law was in town to have dinner with me and my wife.
The Review: On the nose this wine shows alot of mineral, chalk, fudge and bisquits, not as much nose as I had expected but its always hard when you got expectiations. Its hard to live up to. On the palete the wine really delivers, its new grinded coffee beans, chocolate, sweet Bloodorange, mineral and roasted oak. The wine still has a massive acid so I think it could live for many years. The wine is a bit thin on the finish but lovely.

Heady and mature nose of apple cider, brioche, lemon and yeast. Fine bubbles, but very little beading. Tangy, full and rich, with a tangerine, medium length finish. Tasted beside the 01, this was fuller and more mature, with less energy and acidity. (The nose's were very similar)

A lovely champagne! Interesting bouquet that reminded me a bit of a mature white burgundy but also with some forest-like aromas and a slight touch of yeast. My last bottle of the this amazing Champagne. Brought to Bouquet for our 32nd anniversary and paid corkage to drink it with dinner. No formal notes. From memory: Gold with yellowish tint. Rich yeasty nose with tropical fruit, pear, and a subtle note of milk chocolate. Fine effervescence. Delicious, creamy palate of apple, pear, pineapple, honey, and very subtle oak. Superb length. Mouthwatering acidity. It doesn't get much better than this. Wonder where I can find more bottles?

Best Champagne in quite a while for me and one that was really unique (in my limited experience). This had the most wonderful combination of creamy texture and zippy acidity that made it satisfying, refreshing an exciting. Rich and light at the same time. I did not have time to note all the aromas and flavors as I was focused on kitchen tasks, but the sensations were attention-grabbing and well remembered.

Vintage Champagnes - DP, VC, Henriot, Vilmart (Legends Cellars): I've had better experiences with this wine. I wonder if it was a bottle to drink closer to release. Rich and ripe, almost tannic. Vintage Champagne (Legend Cellars - Irvine, CA): The last time I tasted this wine was a year and a half ago. Back then I gave it a 93 and declared it my WOTD. Today it was one of my least favorites of the tasting. Go figure. Crushed granite and peroxide on the nose followed by creamy Asian pear, green and yellow apples, and kiwi fruit. Nice weight on the palate with a mineral- and chalk-laden finish. A very fine wine by many accounts but just not as impressive as the previous bottle.

This is a rock star champagne in the Vilmart style--big, in your face, and intense. But it's also well balanced, minerally, and quite seductive. This needed to warm up and breathe to show its true colors, but when it did it was an onslaught of yellow and red fruits, and mid-palate cream. Sweet oak adds rather than detracts this acidic, refreshing, and still-young bubbly. Only a bit more complexity could propel this to greater heights. Drink or hold.

Fantastisk. Deilig champagne med lukt av nøtter og litt toast. Smaken var balansert ja nesten litt smøraktig med smak av søte epler (røde). Grower Champagnes at Todd's (Chateauneuf de Todd): Bit funky initially on the nose and palate. Rich styled with plenty of citrus and red berries of Pinot showing. Judging from my last go around with this one I probably needed to set it aside and let it air out longer. Lot's going on.

Champagne brunch (My place): Fine yellow color. Holding back a little on the nose at first but quickly opens up to extremely intense notes of yellow plums, butter, popcorn and flowers. On the palate equally powerful and intense with burned sugar, fat yellow plum, freshly baked French loaf and yellow flowers. Very juicy and smooth, opulent and wild, yet refined and tasty. Long taste and lively acidity, this is huge.

This has a much more oxidative nose that the 1999 and is really very dumb. There was debate about whether it was slightly corked or affected by brett. Initially, I thought slightly corked, but returning to the glass an hour or so later, there was no development of anything particularly identifiable as TCA on the nose. Something very wrong with it though.

August 2009 - Holiday Wines (The Charente): Quite brash, seductive sweet oak, if the 97 was showbiz this is an exotic cabaret. Well balanced sweet fruit and framed acidity. Something just a little harsh in the mouth though.

Grower Champagnes (Chateau Todd - Dana Point, CA): An outstanding Champagne! Impressively regal notes of Fuji apples, Asian pears, kiwis, and ocean spray. Rich, precise, tangy, and mouthfilling. My WOTN. 93-94 points.

Uncorked.dk does 1998 Chateauneuf-du-Pape (and a few other gems) (Restaurant Premisse, Copenhagen): Light yellow. Nice persistent mousse. Delicious nose with roasted wheat, yellow apples, yellow cherry plums. Very fresh and elegant mouth feel with more yellow as well as white fruit and flowers. Very intense and with a long aftertaste.

Vintage Champagne at Jay Selman's Office (The Board Room): Spicey complex expressive nose that was a bit of a wow. Pretty sweet and spice palate giving good complexity and a very fresh character. Drinking very very well now. Close running for WOTD.

Very pale, lemon, rose and honeysuckle, some freshshiney woodshavings on attack. Very tight concentrated with medium acidity, calmed in the glass to a beautiful polished champagne.
