Drank over two days. Better on the second day. Very nice bottle. Attractive aromas. Pineapple and other fruits. Not much if any oxidation. Golden colour. Good waxy texture. I kept sniffing the glass after the wine was all drank. Perhaps not a good sign for me, but a good sign for the wine. 24 hour decant recommended. 90-91 points.

Another terrific bottle of this, still going strong. I am a sucker for white Bordeaux, I love the savory-saline-marine notes along with the fruit. This one was classic and highly aromatic with vanilla bean, caraway seed, candle wax, celery soda, and fresh tarragon. Well balanced between fruit and acid, there's good weight and a fully resolved structure I would drink now or soon, don't risk this fading or the pox.

A long-time favorite, still showing well with a waxy-lemon-vanilla profile that I find compelling. The palate is rich with some honeyed apples, but there's plenty of cut. That said, I think these should be enjoyed now, as the color is getting darker and some oxidative notes are there on the backend. 91-92 pts.

Friday night with broiled halibut, mushroom-tarragon risotto. Great match. Green/yellow-gold color. Aromas of fruit with a hint of oak. This wine is in peak form, but should last at least 5 more years. If stored well, you should pop one and enjoy.

Becoming gold in color. Rich, but losing precision on the palate. The different flavors of oaken vanilla, lemon, mineral and tropical fruits are losing their distinctiveness as they are overtaken with a bland caramel. Good to Very Good.

Carbonnieux 2003 Gold in color. Looks like a Sauternes. Gives an impression that a powerful wine is to come Honey lemon on the nose, Ginger And yeast. A bit of bitterness from oak, full bodied very round, lower acidity than expected flavors match the nose with honey and citrus dominating the mid palate leaving Ginger and some other spices linger on the back end. Very long. I am so glad i have more of those! ;-) Solid 92

My last. In the bottle one perceives acgreen tinge not evident in the glass. Nose is gentle but alluring with eastern spice aromatic ( coriander?) faint milkiness and minersliy. The palate matches well with a nice fruity acidity. I don't get tropical notes as on prior bottles. The finish is long and round. Easily a low 90s. Btw, I tend to drink whites at cellar temp not refrigerator cold
Addendum: I had about 2 glasses left, saved I presumed for cooking but tasted a week later. mmm, ver complex and minerally and round with the nuttyness of a jerez. wow! drinking it, not cooking!

My wife and I have enjoyed several vintages of this wine but somehow missed the 2003. We saw a bottle and decided to give it a try. Gold color that looks almost like apple cider. Noticeable Semillon in the nose. Tastes like liquid creme brule with a touch of tropical fruit. Very full. Acidity is too subdued. We found this bottle acceptable but all things considered prefer our current favorite, the 2005, for its better balance.

Beautiful golden yellow color. Much like others have noted, its clean crisp with a nice amount of zestiness. Slightly hollow when first popped but opened up very nicely after it warmed up and had some air. Peach apricot balanced with minerals and acidity. Elegant but not profound or very complex, but a lovely graves white. 90. Day 3 - Got even better as the midpalette felt plusher while retaining its balance.

A bit simple now but will resolve with age- good white bordeaux needs 7-10 years IMO. Good balance, well integrated oak, good core of tropical fruit. Also displays a streak of minerality.

This was very good but also a little bit too straightforward compared to my expectations. The finish is great though.
Golden color in the glass. On the nose, slight grassy scents with minerality and some white fruit. On the palate, the minerality is more pronounced, hints of apricot and peach, with a lush finish of apricot, peach and light vanilla. The finish lingers pleasantly. Vibrant acidity.

Deep yellow. Big tropical nose with great herbaceous elements. Peach, tangerine, lemon, melon. beeswax, and a creamy toasted oak bouquet. Nutty honey nuances. Big body with a good tang of acidity and beautifully balanced. Healthy finish that leaves all the flavors coating the entire mouth for a good minute. Oustanding experience with my first good Graves. Wow! Expecting some tiredness, I was blown away by the youth and vigor of this wine, a favorite white Bordeaux of mine for many years. This vintage is offering a depth of character one might expect of '03. Layers of citrus and melon. Peeling the layers back as it glides across the palate. Cool and crisp like a freshly harvested summer fruit. I am off to buy some more.

Not really much going in this for me right now. Good table wine, would be nice with a piece of fish. Surprisingly tannic. Might get better with age, but there is not much fruit there. A nice balanced white with not much depth.

Despite Parker's warning about the white Bdx of 2003 not being long-lived, this wine definitely needs a few more years in the bottle. Right now, it is too sharp and acidic without the roundness that can come with time. It may be the case that this is not a 30 year wine, but at least for me, I am waiting a few years before trying my other bottles. In this sense, I am reminded of an '01 I had (Cuvee Caroline) which was not very satisfying in 2005 but was wonderful in 2008. No rating.
Much improved on Day 3 (corked the bottle after 1 glass and left it in the fridge) -- no sample on Day 2. Opened up in the glass as it warmed up a bit. Nevertheless, I am holding the others for at least 2 years -- probably 3. I suspect this could be very fine by then.

Clear pale straw in the glass, with just a tinge of green. Very intense nose of honey and apricot. On the palate lots of chalky mineral flavors, more honey and apricot, and a little bit of citrus. Vibrant acidity with a longish finish dominated by the chalkiness. Very nice and seems to be gaining complexity with time in bottle.

A goo sauvignon blanc, but the semillon was missing, as was the case with the last several bottles of this (and the '05) that I've had. Disappointing, given the stupendous flavors of the first bottle of this I had.

Score is going down, for me at least. Not sure if I served this too cold, it is going dormant, or is just running out of steam. It seems the buttery, mushroomy richness that I liked so much the first time has vanished, replaced by all Sauvignon Blanc, which makes the wine seem thin. What is there is good, just not as much good as it was.

After an initially unattractive oaky nose subsided, this wine began to open up with aromas of lemon, lime, grass, and wax. Very different from the '02 version I recently had. This is less aromatic, and acidic, but fatter and more voluptuous. Very fresh flavors of lemon, lime, and a buttery finish with a subtle note of mint? emerging after an hour or so. An overall strange wine...definitely characteristic of the vintage, and will most likely not age well. Drink it sooner than later!

What a superb wine! Served at 60 degrees on this quite warm last day of a wine-filled April, it smelled of butterscotch, grapefruit, and mushrooms. It's pale yellow-green color was appetizing from the clear glass bottle. With gentle acid, and a nice finish, this wine is rich, luxurious, and very satisfying, right down to the last delicious mouthful. It went very perfectly with our dinner of simple roast chicken, but I imagine this might go well with seafood.
This is quite simply a great wine.

Australia v. France (Tokyo American Club): Slightly deeper in color, but similar to previous. Much more restrained on nose (no greenberry/cat pee), but with a little smokiness. Rounder in mouth with relatively short finish. Flavor impact mostly in front of mouth and waxy. Oak is slightly intrusive, covering any fruit on nose.

Fantastic white bdx, given its price point. Well-rounded, refreshing, maturing well, with a beautiful 30-second finish.

Far better than expected. Great class, refinement, especially for a 2003! Good minerality, nice semillon-smell. Very good. Needs air.

Wow, this is in a much better place than when drunk young as the oak has integrated and no longer overbears. Really nice combination of rich fruit and structure and I could drink a ton of this.

Greenish gold coloring. The bouquet is very faint but pleasing, citric scents. A light to medium bodied wine with subtlety harmony. Little of the Semillion here and the Sauvignon Blanc is delicate and refined.

Better this time: floral notes, a bit of buttery semillon flavor, but the sauvignon seemed to dominate.

2003 Bordeaux Tasting (Binny's, Schaumburg): A blend of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc. Pale golden color with light spice and lemongrass notes. The lemongrass follows through on the palate, along with other citrus flavors. Decent finish.
