Wow! Took fellow CT'ers advice and decanted for 3 hours before tasting. Incredibly dynamic, high-tone red berries, cranberry, italian garrigue (dust, field flowers, cedar and tobacco on the nose. Red fruits, cranberry and tobacco on the flavorful palate. One knock: Somewhat thin and metallic moving through the palate; expected fuller and richer. Still, flavorful (if somewhat one-dimensional) through to the finish. This had a lot of energy from start to finish. Delicious.
There is great energy here, with some red tones to the fruit, spice, floral and tobacco. This is flat out delicious. Both the 06 and the 10 were darker, richer and rounder, but boring. This was my last 07 unfortunately.

I have had the 2006 and the 2010 of this wine recently, and while I generally consider both of those vintage to be much better overall, this 2007 Uccelliera was much better in my opinion. There is great energy here, with some red tones to the fruit, spice, floral and tobacco. This is flat out delicious. Both the 06 and the 10 were darker, richer and rounder, but boring. Wow. Excellent at 15 years old. Decanted, but not for long and served it with cheeses and salumi. The first 2 bottles we had from this vintage we purchased from their winery in Tuscany during a fantastic tasting and tour. Then, 2 years later, I bought more at Benevenuto Brunello. Even in those 2 years the oak had softened considerably (aged in a combo of botti and tonneaux so there is some oak on this) and the wine was more harmonious. Each bottle was progressively better. And now we've had the last one - spicy, leather, forest floor, raspberry/cherry. The last bottle for me, but it's not fading so this will age well over a few more years. Then again, it's so delicious now!

Beautiful wine right now. Red cherry, strawberry, and red plum fruit. Nice core of spice, leather, black licorice, and mineral notes. Good acidity, smooth tannins, and long finish. Great drinking window now but no rush...this can sleep for many more years.

Good color. Bouquet of dusty berries and wood. The wine had good fruit and strong tannins. It took 30-40 minutes to open up and kept improving with time. Not as elegant as the ‘06 or ‘10 Uccel’s, a nice wine and plenty of fruit to last another 10-12 years.

Another 2007 Brunello drinking in the zone. Fantastic nose, typical Uccelliera richness and structure. Definitely more on the dark-fruited side of the Brunello spectrum. Love it. Drink over the next 3-4 years - no need to let it go downhill.

bricking and secondary flavors make this bottle seem to be more advanced than expected; classic rhubarb, earth, tart cherry; acidity more noticeable on day two; tannins seem integrated to me; decant for heavy sediment

Largely consistent with our previous tasting notes, and still showing a backbone of unresolved tannins - but some herbal and mineral complexity is now present, as is a lovely mid-palate sweetness before the tannins on the finish kick in. Is this going to be another one of those situations where I'm halfway through a case before I realize I shouldn't have even opened a single bottle yet? Maybe...

Classic Brunello that we paired with pasta bolagnese and spaghetti squash. Great nose of cranberries and black olives. Long clean finish from my favorite Brunello producer.

Once again, another Brunello that showed much better on its own without food. I get dark fruits, currants, lots of violet, root beer, ginger, wet stones, raspberry licorice, sandalwood, with spices, cedar, and faint smoky notes on the finish. Well balanced and showing well at 13 years in. Not bad, but not special. The 15% alcochol pushes it over the edge just a hair. Modern in style. Again, with Brunello, I often don’t find Tuscan Sangiovese in it. It had more life in it, but also seemed to be drinking well now.
Best in Riedel Chianti glass; good in Zalto All Purpose; ok in Riedel and Zalto Bordeaux glasses. Ok match with Marsala Chicken, but good match with Bracciole stuffed with raisins.
We drank this while playing Catan with this kids. Pretty good. Dark, black tar notes. Rich, but with decent acidity. Should drink well for a long time.

Boring and disappointing. Half the bottle went down the drain. Still a lot of backbone, but fruit was faded, dull and non descript. Secondary flavors? Not so much. Properly cellared since purchased on release. Not sure this tasted like Sangiovese. Will give next Bottles a bit more time. Maybe. Sorry for the segue, but not nearly as good as the 2001 Mondavi Reserve Cab we drank last weekend.

Caught this Brunello in a perfect spot for our palates. The tannins, fruit, and acidity were in terrific balance, and the overall package was deeply satisfying - both on it's own and paired with Chicken Parmigiana. Definitely a producer to keep on the radar.

Deep, dark garnet in color with ever so slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, dried herbal notes of anise & mint, spices, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, dried herbs, mushrooms & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks well at present with decanting & extended airing but even at 13 years of age, it should continue to develop & benefit from additional aging if stored properly.

This wine is aging beautifully. A subtle nuttiness is present throughout while floral notes accompany cherry, licorice and spices. Still plenty of acidity. Tannins are mellowing, though very prominent on the finish. Excellent

Needed 2hr decant to air out stuffy, barnyard-like funk. Stewed fruit, hot alcoholic finish, touch raisiny. Better overall balance on the second day, but lacks tension and minerality. Drink/hold.

Strong nose of roasted tomato and herbs that followed through on the palette. More herbal than fruity although there are some red fruit characteristics along with a hint of anise.

Very similar notes to last time. Even though its 2 years since the last bottle, I'm not sure this wine has aged much. It certainly feels like it has moved past its youthful phase, but I could write exactly the same note as last time.

This wine always seems to get rave reviews, but I am underwhelmed every time I bring it out. For the price and the hype this wine just doesn't stack up. There is a very good fruit core, but the finish is kind of off and a bit harsh.

Really liked this. No overt ripeness that I was worried about, plenty of sour cherry and plum fruit, tar, some incense, at times delicate and floral despite 15% ABV. Good acidity and ample tannin yet, plenty of charred terra cotta earth type scents. Pretty classy and a nice surprise.

Medium+ body, baked plums, scorched earth, dusty, pie crust, savory dark berries, with avg(-) acidity. Missing the energy and personality I want in BdM and my wine in general. I like it for what it is, but it's not something I'd seek out. Aerated 2 hours in decanter, served non-blind. I have no idea where this is going, but I can't imagine it's going to get better. Drink now (with air) or in the mid-term. Maybe it was at its best on release?
Opened a second bottle after a fairly disappointing experience 6 months ago (Dec 2016). Unfortunately consistent notes. Hence had a look at the map: Uccelliera is located at rather low altitude on the South facing slope near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, and 2007 was a hot vintage in Tuscany. This clearly shows in the wine upon opening with dark, burned fruit and tar notes. Medium drying tannins. Interestingly just like the first bottle, the dark notes start fading after about an hour of air and you are left with a more pleasant Brunello however of moderate depth. Hence would suggest to decant for an hour but am not very optimistic for the long term development of this vintage of Ucceliera. Need to check in on Ciacci's 2007 next, and see if they did any better since the location is in the same are and also lower altitude

Largely consistent with previous tasting note - the tannins remain granular, which is really the only point of contention. Aromatics and palate continue to impress. I think this is just a matter of time.

I didn't find that funky earthy note I mentioned a few years ago. This is fairly rich and fruity, but there is a lot of acidity to offset it. Still primary and a bit simple compared to the older Baroli. Ann liked it but I think it needs more time.

Seeing a large bottle variation in '07s. Had a few bottles that came off as 'cooked' -- oxidized, unpleasantly advanced baked fruit, a tinge of rust in the aroma.
A well aged bottle showed a long vein of juicy dark cherry infused with a touch of wood in the finish. Showing a hint of oak and some residual tannins still. Long, liquor like wine, evolving in the glass, mineral and earthy. A well made, complex southern Brunello. Wait. Did not hold up overnight, showed oxidation.

Have barely touched my 2007 Brunellos since I have been putting aside whatever decent I could find from 2007 over the years (i.e. Tuscany, Piemont, California Cabs, Rhone, white Burgundy, German and Austrian Riesling), as it is the birth year of one of our boys. Now that I have more 2007 than could possibly make sense, I think it is about time to check in on some of the wines with the intention of drinking what does not look like a keeper for another 10+ years.
Coravin'ed glass and will drink the rest of the bottle with a proper decant in a couple days. Drank glass over about 90 min, and am surprised by the majority of high ratings both here and from the main critics upon the wine's release in 2012. The outlier is perhaps the comprehensive Decanter 07 Brunello tasting, where Uccelliera ended close to the end of the large field with an average of only 16/20. So I have still hopes for my other 07 Brunellos that showed better in this tasting...
This is still a dark garnet in the glass with just a slight touch of browning towards the translucent rim. For a good 60 min upon opening the wine is dominated by the marks of a very hot vintage just like 2003 in Brunello (or Bordeaux). Dark, burned fruit with notes of tar giving the wine some bitterness, medium tannins, fairly short length. The dark fruit recedes with more air around the 90 min with herbs and some more red fruit appearing, which transforms the wine to a more elegant style of Brunello. At the same time a slight hole opens up in the mid palate showing a surprising lack of substance. Not sure whether this is what Galloni saw when he observed there was a "lack of structure" (to still rate the wine at 94 points?). Anyway, in my eyes this is not a really convincing Brunello today, and I have doubts about its potential to improve significantly from here. Just my 2c of course. 89-90 for the time being.

Decanted 90 minutes, consumed over next 60. Shows the lush fruit of the warm '07 vintage, but remains nicely balanced, the bit of oak apparent on release has completely integrated resulting in a well crafted, beautifully complex Brunello with a lengthy expanding finish.

I had the 1st bottle of this a year or so back. I was less than impressed at that time, as I felt the wine was good, but boring. It didn't turn any corners or offer any surprise or interest from bouquet to palate; tame and sedentary. This bottle was much more lively; calling for attention and offering flavor and nuance that intrigued. Much more enjoyable. I think the age is better, now, and has more growth in completing the integration that the fruit has the power to carry.

Red cherries, hints of chocolate and tobacco on the palate. Medium bodied with medium length. Grippy tannins lead to a slightly bitter finish. Still youthful with at least a decade in front of it. Layers of complexity and structure make this a really wonderful wine. It took at least 2 hours to really open up. Highly recommended.

Decanted 30 minutes before service. In the glass, dark red with a faint shade of orange at the rim. On the nose, citrus fruit and stone fruit, with a background note of oak. On the palate, orange peels, plums, currants, and a secondary note of tobacco, with a long, tannic finish. The wine is approachable now, but I think it has many years of evolution ahead. Great food wine.

Drank over 5 hours. Scents of sweet tobacco. Chocolate nibs, earth, bark, underbrush, with a mineral finish. Dark fruit is rather reticent. Tannins have folded in, and are a touch drying, but make no mistake that this is a muscular wine. Moderate finish with just a hint of warmth at the end. Full bodied. Overall, it's got some nice notes, but can't fully pull together. Not totally my cup of tea. A little too extracted, dark, and a bit rusticness holding it back. Though this is probably close to it's peak now as it's softened but still with plenty of visceralness that is the attraction here. Drink over the next 5 yr.

Decanted 2 hours prior to dinner. Dark garnet colour. Cedar, dark cherry nose. Tight and focussed on the palate. Dark cherry fruit, marked acidity - still young. Opened up a bit later in the evening and fruit became more pronounced, fine acidity and grainy tannins. Fruit flowing through to a long finish. Very good.

As much as I really adore the 2004 - this is a bit of a let down. Green, high acid and not full in harmony. Usually I prefer 2007 to 2006 in Tuscany in general, but here it seems to be the other way around.
Was better on day 2.

Osteria I Nonni Fall Italian Tasting 2013 (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Tasted twice. The nose offers a great perfume of sandalwood, leather, florals, raspberry, smoke, spice. The palate while young is now drinking considerably better than just a year ago. Nice depth and complexity, raspberry, cherry, layered fruit, leather, spices, long finish. Tannins are round, firmish but not aggressive. I like where this is going. 93+pts.

Red in color. Raspberry, violet and smoke on the nose. Tasted after a 2010 Rosso di Montalcino, the bouquet was identical. Flavors of red berry, smoke and spice. Much fuller bodied than the Rosso. Nice, but not a great value.

Nose was subdued. Hard to get much from it. Pour glass and let it sit for about 30 minutes; still no discernible fruit on the nose. Earth, some wet stone, little bacon grease reminiscent of a Bordeaux on the nose. Palate shows a little fruit, still tannic, probably needs lot more time in the bottle. After about 90 minutes, with dinner, palate developed more. Still subdued, but very ripe dark fruit, hint of creme brulee, even some tobacco. I expect that I will score this higher in a few years.

With the 08's coming out, I thought I would check in on these to see if I should order more 07's with the 08. Popped, poured into a decanter and then poured my wife and I a glass to go with spaghetti with meatballs and Italian sausage. Tight initially, with lush red fruits. From the nose I wouldn't guess this to be brunello or even Italian as it suggests mostly sweet red fruit but that changed quite a bit over the next couple hours. From the previous notes I was expecting this to be built like a brick wall but I found the tannins to be fine, well integrated and not overwhelming or out of balance. As the wine opens they begin to show more but they don't bother me at all. I think the wine is very accessible now. After about an hour the wine really starts to show better with some spice, red and black fruits, faint licorice, and mineral. It also starts to show a lot of earthy notes that are almost a little funky and too much for my taste. Well built and overall a nice wine that could age well or be drunk now. I am not sure how these will fit my tastes down the road though due to that funky earthy note. Will that become more prominent or meld in? I have 5 more and I'm not inclined to add any.

Ruby in color. Still a very young wine. Dense sheet tannins that coat the palate. Very tense and strong up front. Expressing dried fruit. Almost an earthy dusty characteristic to it. The finish was a bit hot & did not last long enough. Definitely a mouthful & expressive but too tart and over the top for my taste.

Decanted and poured, this wine required about an hour to show its best. Initially the wine begins reserved with uneven aromatics. Time in the decanter harmonizes the bouquet and brings length and balance to the palate. Based on this showing the wine will benefit from a longer decant time or a couple of years of additional bottle age.

Some Marc de Grazia Barolos and Brunellos: Nose: Very lovely, savory, and deep nose filled with youthful tones of red fruits, red cherries, berries, spice tones, violets, and roasted herbs. There is a gorgeous seamless quality to this on the nose as well.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity with chewy tannins. Well balanced with very good depth and a real youthful verve to the savory tones of violets, red cherries, berries, roasted herbs and some red florals as well.
Overall: This has the ability to be a real stunner. The balance is right there with some extra fruit that shows off the vintage. There is a lot of class and poise to the wine and it has the stuffing to last a long time.

Popped and poured. Reticent at first with fine toned wood and earth fragrances and a hint of richness at the core. The fruit on the nose is dried red cherry, blended with some incense. The palate has a bit darker character, with dense black cherry, some anise and dried herbs, with fine tannins and mild acidity. Solid palate, with a blanket of finesse on top. The acid seems a bit low, but otherwise there are well balanced components here that should blend beautifully in time. This opened nicely with time in the glass.

Decanted and poured, this wine gave an outstanding showing. The wine benefited from airing and kept improving over the course of its consumption. This bottle seemed more complete and nuanced than a previously tasted bottle. This will benefit from additional bottle age and gives the impression that its peak will not be reached until around 2017.

Decanted and poured, this wine gave an outstanding showing and appears to be a worthy follow up to remarkable 2004 and 2006. At this stage, the shows youthful accessibility with an expressive bouquet of red fruits, anise, herbs and tar. The medium to almost full bodied palate shows detail and balance. The Italian Wine Masters (Metropolitan Pavilion): The nose was classic and earthy with ripe red berries, soil and minerals. On the palate, it was lean yet focused with strawberry and cedar box. It appeared smaller in scale than most of the ‘07s I’d tasted yet finessed, pure and likely able to mature into something beautiful. The finish was long, showing massive structure.

Not as elegant as the ‘06 or ‘10 Uccel’s, a nice wine and plenty of fruit to last another 10-12 years.

bricking and secondary flavors make this bottle seem to be more advanced than expected; classic rhubarb, earth, tart cherry; acidity more noticeable on day two; tannins seem integrated to me; decant for heavy sediment

Maybe...

Osteria I Nonni Fall Italian Tasting (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): This was pretty aggressive on the palate right now, tannins that will leave a mark, but the evidence for the future is there. There is a nice sandalwood note along with leather, quite earthy, spice, and red fruits. this will require some significant cellar time to mellow though. 92(+)pts.

I Nonni Fall Tasting: Rose petals, leather and earth. Young and tannic. Needs time to develop so we will see what happens. 88+ After seeing other notes and the fact this was not decanted and prepared properly I would have to not rate the wine at this time. It is amazing that those in the trade do not spend time preparing wines to show their best.

Aromas of mushroom tart and grilled steak with just a hint of cherries. Beautifully structured and integrated on the palate with meaty and restrained cherry flavors. Moderate acidity and good length.

Splash decanted one hour, consumed over 45 minutes. Showing well already with layers of red and dark fruit, forest floor, cedar, touch of leather and some deftly woven French Oak.

Dark ruby color. Full aromas of dark cherry, strawberry and some dried herbs and candy sticks with hints of red licorice. Slightly jammy, medium-full bodied with smooth tannins, ripe fruit and balanced acidity. A medium long finish.

Strong nose of dark fruit; quite rich. Not overpowered with wood but with nice jammy dark fruit. Some spice as well on the nose - a lot there. Mouth is very full flavoured, darkens over time to a sappy, full terrific spicy ending. Tannins are ever present but fine. This is rich full with a great deal of complexity. Super balance.

The wine finishes with medium length where moderate tannins and acidity make an appearance.
