  • PoP. Opulent and masculine from the start. The first 30-45mins allowed the funk to dissapate. Next 3hours didnt change the wine much. Very masculine, dark and Intense. 93pts but potentially 94-95pts with 4-6hours of air.

  • Lovely but aging quickly in my view.

  • Decanted for 1 hour and then consumed over the next 2. Glorious high toned nose of sandalwood, clove, spice and mineral laden red fruits that explodes from the glass. The palate is still tight, rich and deep red cherry fruit, silky and luxurious but still clenched and drying on balance. Just a beautiful wine, with a lot of upside from here.

  • Beautiful clear ruby with a halo around it. Belies its age. Warm smells of the soils - you can almost smell the heat in the soil. Well evolved and beautifully resolved. Softness. Floral notes. Pencil. Graphite. Soft Unami. After opening up, dark cherries but almost stewed like a luxardo but not as sweet. Soft cedar notes. Bright acid but not overwhelming. Balanced tannins with a long road ahead.

  • Lafon Montrachet vertical with some great champagne and reds. (Four Seasons, Minneapolis, MN): Tasted alongside the '93 and '10. Dark color. Less structured than the '93. Asian spice, some tobacco, stems. Soft mouthfeel. Long pleasant finish. Is there enough structure for long term aging??

  • Million dollar nose right upon opening. Stemmy elements marry ripe red fruit, animalic and earthy elements. Dense and ripe palate but precise and fresh. Feels young still. 98-100

  • This has the nose, aromas and body to get us to 100 points once remaining tannins are resolved. Wonderful wine.

  • La Tâche 1985-2010 Vertical NYC (Le Pavillon NYC): Interesting when tasting this and 10 side by side. This is evidentaly riper notes of black fruit, much darker in color. Different than its sister which was instant on, it took about 30 mins to gain more weight and depth in the glass. Tea and leather notes started to show up over time.
As alleged it was fat, powerful and flamboyant for both the nose but more so on the palate.

This wine also lasted the entire 5-hr tasting event, an incredible wine!

  • La Tâche Vertical (Le Pavillon): Comparable to the ’10 alongside but perhaps a little less striking, but this is splitting hairs. Beautiful floral stems. Palate is vibrant and primary and again maybe slightly less powerful than the ’10. This too is surprisingly open and accessible right now and has great power with soft and easy edges. I think I may prefer this to the ’05 right now, only because this is more open for business at the moment. Each of the wines in this flight have terrific staying power and long flavourful finish.

  • Sweet aromatics, albeit slightly shut. Elegant filigree with meaningful ripeness on palate. (1193/21939)

  • Translucent dark ruby. Ripe, dark, concentrated, reticent, brooding. Black cherry, lots of stemmy character, a hint of violets, somewhat muted. Plenty of structure, depth, and length, but this is pretty monolithic at this stage. The only hint of the pedigree here is the power and polish. I presume this will be great one day, but I wouldn’t recommend it for current drinking.

  • We initially decanted this bottle for an hour and it still took another hour to unwind. It started out a bit disjointed - it almost tasted like a light bordeaux with heavier fruit, earth and ink. A burgundy comparison might be an aged La Tour Clos Vougeot - good but not La Tache good. Where was the mix of fruit, vegetable, leather, oak, spice and mineral that makes La Tache so complex and such a treat? After another hour of decanting, the vegetable notes really started to pick up with a surprise hint of mint. Then the spice kicked-in. By the end of the bottle, I felt like we were still an hour too early. I think the conclusion is that this wine is still too young - I would say 5-10 years too young. Can you drink it now? Yes, but do so at the risk of our experience: Good (great?) but not epic La Tache.

  • Wine Group Dinner #178, Harvey's Restaurant, Brisbane. La Tache Vertical 2001 - 2009. The 2009 is a fantastic wine with a dark deep colour and a quite tightly wound nose of redcurrants, dark raspberry, wild strawberries, violets and dark chocolate with touches of Asian spices. The palate is rich and layered with a touch of stems and a long gripping finish that remains light on the final touch. This is a baby that may come to surpass the great 2005 with years of slumber in a cool cellar but can we wait that long ?

  • Ohh.My.God

BRAVO !!!

  • La Paulee 2020 - Gala Dinner (Pier 60): After party night cap. Not open long enough, but the wine is super structured and with great things underneath. Very muscular and detailed. 96

  • Noe grønsaksaktig nese. Kål. Stum.
Fabelaktig frukt med deilig sursøt kjølig avslutning. Topp syrespill. Sitter lenge.
    Søt lakris i avslutning.

  • Opened up and decided to decant. A beast of wine that will last for a long time. As a friend said a classic LT- Lots of spice. Tannins are strong but come together quite well. I probably wouldn't decant if I opened another one soon. Just needs time. 96/97

  • I mixed things up and thought this was the ringer (Guessed Leroy VR 04). Soon corrected that it was fact the Tache. Distinct smell om natural wine making, not entirely clean, some VA, but also spice; In the mouth: high acid, dung, developed. Others liked it far better than me.

  • The great outing (Aalborg, Denmark): Much too young, but what a wine this will be; 2009 spealks here, certainly, the richesse is wonderful, but there is no heat, just m,ature, sweet fruit in abundance, yet kept together. Some tannins here, but the main impression remains gentle and rich. 97+

  • Prep for The Tenth Edition of the Villa d'Este Wine Symposium (Bistro Bis - Washington D.C.): Incredible finesse and complexity for such a young wine. Youthful yet complex nose displaying purest black fruit, sap, perfume, lavender, tea, Vosne spice, a hint of stem and crushed rocks. Perfectly balanced sensual palate, layers upon layers of decadent yet pure black fruit, airy and weightless, perfect amount of acidity, incredible amount of mineral, very fine tannins and the never ending finish. The 09 RSV shows incredibly well yet this is even more detailed, pure and precise. Although it already provides incredible drinking pleasure, the 09 will become one of the greatest La Taches in another twenty years equaling the 90 and 99.

  • Second La Tache of the night. First we had the very different 2008.
This is spicy, creamy and delicious.
    Hard to beat.

  • Restaurant Fitzgerald (Rotterdam , NL): Lifted aromas of black fruit, sweet spice and hints of forest floor. The texture is refined with great finesse, pure silk and deliciously savoury on the finish. A fabulous wine of charme and elegance.

  • Leiden visits Fitzgerald Restaurant in Rotterdam for 50 year Anniversary: My first La Tache. Great perfumed nose, dark cherry, violets, some coffee, spice, together with some greenness. Elegant taste, very concentrated, dark fruit, velvety, round tannins, balanced acidity. Gets better with every sip. The wine is brought out even more together with the food, showing complex changes in the acidity and fruit tones. There is so much happening that cannot be fetched in words. A remarkable experience.

  • Greatest red Burgundy - Wine tasting dinner (Rest FB (kg arr.)): 4 flights tasted:
    1. Chambolle Musigny: Denis Mortet 1. cru Aux Beaux Bruns '10 (classical Chambolle, light, elegant, perfect aromas and balance 93-94/100) against Vogué Le Musigny vielles vignes '06 (much more intensity, liquorice and too many tannins - in other words much too young, 91/100)
    2. Gevrey-Chambertin: Philippe Pacalet Ruchotte-Chambertin '11 (close to natural wine, a lot of fruit, liquorice, definitely not a typical Bourgogne, 93/100) against Armand Rousseau Le Chambertin '11 (develops positively in the glass, high acidity, fantastic flavours, still very young, never the less I rated i 95/100 based on performance right now, which means it is the winner of this tasting)
    3. Vosne Romanee: DRC Richebourg '09 (way too young, very closed and too many tannins, however still a good glass of wine 93/100) against DRC La Täche '09 (deeper colour, even mores closed, more tannin and higher intensity both on the nose and palate - should have waited another 10 years or more, 93/100)
    4. Sauternes: Yquem '01 (unbelievable good wine on the nose and palate, extremely good balance - so far the best Sauternes I have ever tasted, It It is not getting better than it is now, just changing towards too many tertiary notes like the 1990. I certainly disagree with Wine Advocate which states drinking window to begin 2030, 98-99/100) against Yquem '90 (Rated 99 by RP - because of the age it is much too oxidative for me (sherry like), almost amber colour, the '01 is so much better 88/100)

  • My second La Tache and I must say I preferred the 2006. Soft, quite lusch, pure and light, everything in harmony and balance , but the 2006 was more mature and showed more depth and spice. Some licorice after 2-3 hours. Decanted, which went well.

  • Stunning nose of pure harmony - wow. This shows power and grace, seamless - and confident in its brilliance. Primary still, it starts to shut down as it sits in the glass, but gracefully. The green notes begin to come forward, but they are such a lovely contrast to the lush fruit. Power and unctuous.

  • Aired 4,5 hours in decanter. Completely muted nose when poured in the glass. Ten minutes of swirling and sniffing does nothing. Palate is also a bit closed initially. It has immense and seamless power, but not a lot of details or complexity. Nothing else to do than put the glass away for a while. And sure enough. After almost an hour in the glass, hints of coffee and cocoa emerges on the nose. It turns into icecoffee. Suddenly I'm sitting here sniffing on a cup of delightful, creamy icecoffee with lots of sweet milk. This is the malolactic component of the wine coming through. Really enjoyable! In the mix there is also some leather and cream. A very gentle and playful nose. Extremely elegant and pure in itself, but the nose never shows anything more than this tonight. A lesson in subtleness and purity. I could happily sit and sniff this glass all night, even if it does not have the same goosebump-factor the Romanee St Vivant had. It's delightful in its own way. The palate wakes up during the evening. It shows more and more for every sip. This is really weightless elegance paired with seamless power and concentration. Minerality and velvet flowing over my tongue. There is something surreal about this glass, and the experience of sitting here, knowing what you are drinking. The other wines are slowly getting tired and worn out in their respective glasses as the evening passes, but the La Tache stays perfectly still. It's in its own separate bubble of time, not moving an inch, as rigid as a bauta. The exact same icecoffee nose and the same powerful, intense velvet taste stays through 4 hours in the glass as a beacon of delight, filling me with an ethereal feeling of joy and completeness that will last me for days to come, perhaps weeks. I hold the La Tache as high as the Romanee St Vivant tonight, even though it did not give as much of itself. This is a small hint of what's to come, 20 years down the line for those few souls lucky enough to open one of these in its prime. This will be pure magic, given enough time.

  • During a tasting lunch. Medium-light ruby. The first smell in the glass made clear that something special was coming. Signature DRC nose of barnyard, red fruit, spices, forest mushrooms, leather, cranberries. Soft and ripe on the palate with sublime elegance but nicely buffering dry extract. Fantastic how these silky tannins together with the acidity buffer the fruit and make you want to take another sip. Too bad that the billion Asians have started to like and search this wine as well and put it to the current price point. Great to have shared this bottle in a restaurant with a few oenophile friends.

  • Clean. Clear. Very, very, very intense. Lots of concentration, heavy with superb elegance, ripe almost sweet fruits, some oak. Seamless on the palate, extremely well balanced, . No point in a longer note. Very, very long finish.

    A superb wine!

  • A memorable dinner wtih Barolis and Burgundy (Fleet Street Kitchen - Baltimore, MD): Only four month ago this was perfectly expressive from the get go but not so this time. Initially reticent nose, a hint of green, smoke, crushed blackberries, sesame, lavender and earth. Intense sweet palate, beautifully integrated tannins and acidity. With air, the nose becomes a bit more expressive, Vosne spice, blackberry essence, coffee, sesame, sap, tea and earth. Excellent concentration and balance. I was expecting the perfect wine but not so and I preferred the perfectly matured 96 and that’s how it goes sometimes. Impressive but not a perfect showing.

  • The youngest wine in this lineup.

Dark/purple color, running through the rim; exhibited a whiff of light violet in the aromas, together with the spice laden dark cherry fruit – some definite new oak in the back; big and powerful; vigorous entry; firm structure; rich and full, with huge concentration; mouth coating fruit – dark berries, but sufficient to hold above the tannins – nice clean acidity – quite fresh actually; shoots back on the palate and extends out to a very long finish, with waves of fruit. A massive wine at this juncture, but another 12 years should harness this wine sufficiently for drinking – believe Allen Meadows’ assessment of holding until 2034 is excessive……but he has drunk a lot more La Tache than I have.

  • Top 09 and 10 red Burgundy tasting (Capital Grill at Tysons corner, VA): From the get go, it is incredibly sexy and delicious, black fruits, a hint of tea, sap, delicate white pepper and earth. The palate is incredibl. Intense dark sweet fruits, airy silky palate, perfectly integrated acidity and tannins. It is drinking so beautifully at the moment that even without considering the potential, the wine flirts with perfection.

  • It built in the glass and showed aromas and flavours of Hoisin, cherry skins, blood plum, aniseed and earth. In the mouth it was rich and velvety and the finish was very long. It is a good La Tache but perhaps not up there with the very best.

Black currant, toasted, forest fruits and slightly ethereal, coffee. His spiciness contains pepper.
He does have a fresh acidity but is masculine still. Slightly earthy. He is in self-contained, balanced.
    Full-body, complex. Extreme long aftertaste.

Frisk syre. Sukkersøt avslutning som sitter uendeligt lenge i.

  • There is a hint of greeness on the nose but the perfume is stunning. It is layers of minerals and fruit on the nose. Almost breathtaking. Extremely clean and magical. Perfect structure and a massive length. This is very close to a perfect wine.

  • DRC 2009 tasting (Operakällaren, Stockholm): Medium red colour. Intense nose, initially with some very traditional Burgundy notes of dung heap and animal notes, mineral, ripe dark berries, flowery and perfumed notes, noticeable spice and finely integrated toasted oak barrel notes with coffee and chocolate. Very elegant nose. On the palate dark berries, very mineral, noticeable spice, very finely polished tannin that are very well integrated into the fruit. Very elegant and very young, great potential. 96+

  • Here we go again...
Another 99 points, second time in less than a week.
I believe I might be on a strike right now?
Tasted at the DRC tasting against the rest of the 2009 line up.
(Except for the Romanée Conti and the Montrachet who was not included in the tasting)
    This wine was just stunning!
Such a complexity, yet very forward and lovely.
On the nose there was the smoke again, combined with the green stalks, but also outstanding Vosne spices, minerals, stones and perfume.
On the palate it comes in deep, long swirling and lingering deep and magical layers.
The clean and ripe, perfect fruit, with the softest, yet present tannins, in a perfect blend, with complex minerals.
There is a touch of the green stalks present (as in the DRC Richebourg, and some other 09 vintages Burgundy wines I have tasted, such as Musigny etc.), but they just add an extra dimension to the complexity and fullness of this magical wine.
The taste stayed in the mouth for more than 1,5 minutes, and it’s just one of those rare moments when the expressions “fulfillment” and “perfection” should be used.
    Unbelievable!
