At pnp, heady flowery bouquet and surprisingly no reduction or funk I sometimes find in a warm vintage bottle of Mugnier's. Palate was closed. Left it open and standing at cellar temp for 3 hours and by the time it was consumed during dinner (~4hrs later) it was open and showing so beautifully. MUCH improved from 9/2020 when I consumed it with nicephora and others (granted, at that point, it was a pnp consumption.) Drank sidebyside a 2009 Bize SavignyLB 1er les Guettes, which was also slow aired and consumed 4hrs later. Mugnier was rocking w/ red fruit and silky ethereal palate that was fresh, juicy and long; Bize showed somw wholestem green, darker plummy fruit and overly tart, though it was open and showing, not closed like I feared. The 1er cru perhaps needs a few more years to tame the acid and the bitter green (I hope) but for now, this 2009 Mugnier village is rocking. 2010 is next up on the docket.

Decanted and repoured into the bottle. Tasted 4 hours later.
This is really showing the vintage. Rich red fruits, bordering on stewed, with some baking spice and savory notes. This is a tad dense and if blinded I would have presumed new world. Pleasant and rich but not nearly as enrapturing as the 2017 I opened in June. Saved 8oz in the fridge… hopefully a few more days helps it find the mugnier magic.

Started off lean and somewhat shut down, with air the vintage took hold, sweet lush and round red and dark red fruit in a floral wrapper appeared, all plush fruit I hope this finds some focus and definition as the alcohol was a bit disconcerting, it’s one dimensional traits today were hopefully a facade and the wine just needs much more time.

On its own, this was lovely. Ripe, and loaded with red berries and plum. Medium high tannins, with a touch of bitterness. I think this is just 2009 the vintage. Overall it would be lovely to drink this and have a mushroom pizza. This was overshadowed by the other wines on this night, but to judge it on its own merit, it was a solid bottle.

At Secchu Yokota. Courtesy of Jason. Mugnier is probably my favorite winemaker in Burgundy, so I was super excited to see this, but this is a touch ripe and inelegant for Chambolle. It's still quite good, but the tannin feels a bit blocky while the fruit feels more extracted than is typical from Mugnier - the vintage shows a bit here (as I think it does with Mugneret-Gibourg's 2009 villages too). I'd have guessed this to be the Clos de Marechale, except we had that recently and it's the more elegant wine. By Mugnier's somewhat ludicrously high standards, could be better.

J F Mugnier Chambolle Musigny wines are incredibly well crafted, I could drink this 2009 Chambolle Musigny any day! Tasted blind – Lifted nose of delicate sweet red berries and nuanced spices. Well-crafted with a gentle array of creamy red fruits and fragrant earthy perfume (that I always link with Chambolle Musigny). A graceful Burgundy from a very good winemaker. Red fruits, cherries & nice floral aromatics. Very well-judged acidity/freshness for this ripe vintage - comes across very elegantly. Alas, this straight village is getting expensive to the point where there are equally compelling, if not more, 1er Crus out there...

Really good right now. Nose is expressive with floral notes, partially developed fruits, mushrooms and forest floor. Very elegant. And the palate follows the nose with impressive intensity of cold, delightful fruit, concentration and floral elegance. This is almost exactly what I would hope for in a high class Chambolle village wine. Textbook terroir. Splendid and awesome.

Nice, really nice, nose of red fruits, hint of cherry in with the others. On tasting though, the palate didn't match the promise of the nose - not bad, just didn't have the delight that I got from the aromas. Length medium, about what you'd expect from a village wine - but it's a bit expensive for the level, I would say the name has been baked into the price.

Opened two nights ago. Extremely disappointing on night one and night two. Heavy, meaty aromas and little fruit. Finish was short and although acidic, lacked any sense of crunchy minerals.
I foolishly guessed that being from the 2009 vintage, this would be more approachable on opening. Now, on the third night, it's finally coming around.
Nose is more of roses and peach than meats, however the meaty aromas are still present in the background. Minerals attack almost immediately on the palate and are momentarily in balance with the tart black cherry fruit before eclipsing the fruit and dominating the finish. This minerality delivers a somewhat unique experience of fine grain sand rolling down the tongue.

Opened two bottles tonight with consistent notes. This has closed down considerably since the last time I had it. Still very ripe, dark cherry and berry fruit, but much more mineral driven on both the nose and palate. The palate was fairly wound up and while yes, still ripe, not as giving as a year ago. I'll probably let mine sit for another 5 years or so before digging in.

Quite oaky at first (not in a vanilla milkshake kind of way, just too woody), powerful and seemed concentrated. I was not a big fan so I decided to leave the bottle open for a few days and see what would happen. On day 5, this was much more Chambollesque, oak took a back seat and became integrated. Nice floral notes and ripe red fruits. Still, the palate is mono-dimensional and dare I say boring with a strange diluted finish after a core of ripe fruit, expresso (yes I realise this is young but the raw material does not interest me here). So while this is certainly not a bad wine, not sure I took great pleasure in drinking this Chambolle. I guess 2009 is not for me.

Tasted over 4h. A lot darker in the glass than I expected given my large sample size of chambolle (1 bottle). Some initial earthy notes that blew off after a while. The wine put on weight after some air and became surprisingly big. Still silky and mostly balanced. A little heat poking out. The nose was a gorgeous thing of fruit and flowers. Good enough that I would consider buying another and actually letting it rest a reasonable amount of time.

This is my first ever Mugnier, and it's really something! Dark, hypnotizing color. The nose is hiding in a dry, dusty corner under a rock covered with moss in the forest. And it reeks of a dark, evil concoction brewed by some medieval witch. It has leather, cocoa, and dusty ripe fruit. It's a mesmerizing odor, and I can't stop sniffing. Can't really say I love the nose, but it has me intrigued!
The first small sip gives me a hint of a remarkably balanced piece of artwork. But there is no gentle and light village Chambolle fruit here. This is heavy, concentrated and dark stuff! A bit of fruit on the tip of the tongue at first. Loads of unsweetened cocoa and coffee on the mid-palate, almost feels like I'm having an espresso! The end is good and shows great length. Plenty of life for cellaring! This is seriously good stuff, and very different from your run-of-the-mill burgundy wine... Very, very different!!

Deep garnet colour, black fruited, dark florals, powerful, lots of fruit, some spice and quite robustly structured. Perhaps a bit too ripe with a touch of young wine confection but with time I expect this may well be a positive.

I love this producer. His wines are so transparent and elegant normally but not in this vintage. If this is what this vintage is about it will not be one of my faves. I would not have picked this as a Mugnier wine if I had it blind. Too jammy and "heavy" for my taste.

Ung , lite bråkig bourgogne med väldigt trevlig direkt doft. Skön direkt attack med syra och bra frukt, fin mellansegment och för åldern ändå bra balans. Tycker det här dricker så bra nu att jag vet inte om man behöver vänta.

Fine Vines - New Burgundy Releases (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Wine tasting. Great red fruit on nose and palate. Incredibly elegant and silky smooth for a Villages level wine (ok, it's really half 1er and half Villages). Slightly rich and candied fruit seem to come through only on finish. I quite liked it. Deep dark color. Red and dark fruits. Some floral, perhaps herbal notes intermingled with the fruit. A nose i really like. Certainly not over ripe. Great balance. Soft tannins. Lovely!

Far too young (obviously) but this was showing quite well, fine and long on the palate although there is a little heat on the finish. Needs another 2/3 years to come together btu shoulld be a nice chambolle with time.

De Chambolle à Morey - Grands Jours de Bourgogne (Gilly-les-Citeaux): Tasting. Great red fruit to start with sweet spice aromas. Sweet red cherry and strawberry on palate, but also lacy and well textured, power starts to emerge on end.

I love this producer. His wines are so transparent and elegant normally but not in this vintage. If this is what this vintage is about it will not be one of my faves. I would not have picked this as a Mugnier wine if I had it blind. Too jammy and "heavy" for my taste.

Great breed and depth of fruit on the nose. The palate has a tiny bit of dilution but also beautiful ripe fruit but mixed in is a bit of green, maybe citrus.

Ung , lite bråkig bourgogne med väldigt trevlig direkt doft. Skön direkt attack med syra och bra frukt, fin mellansegment och för åldern ändå bra balans. Tycker det här dricker så bra nu att jag vet inte om man behöver vänta.

Fine Vines - New Burgundy Releases (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Wine tasting. Great red fruit on nose and palate. Incredibly elegant and silky smooth for a Villages level wine (ok, it's really half 1er and half Villages). Slightly rich and candied fruit seem to come through only on finish. Amazingly balanced and charming for its level.

Domaine Tasting at J.F. Mugnier (Burgundy, France): Was just transferred to stainless steel tank for bottling. Dark red berries with pretty violet notes. Mineral backbone and finish. Bright fruits with more power than usual. Very nice.

J-F Mugnier Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chambolle-Musigny): Tasting at Domaine. Representative of final assemblage. Showed a bit CO2 at first. Then very bright fruit, lots of spice. Very clean and elegantly styled wine. Should show very nicely young but has the bones for cellaring as well
