From a magnum opened 4 hours in advance of our Father's Day dinner at the club. Fruit on the nose. the palate was blackberry, dark cherry, a touch of chocolate and some dried herbs leading to a moderately long finish. Drank alongside a magnum of the 2010 Caymus and this was my preferred wine by far.

PNP. Decanted off moderate sediment. Black cherry, blueberry. Chocolate, some leather. Decent structure and acidity. A bit alcoholic, though very tasty. I think best with food.

Wine Tasting Group - Cabernet Sauvignon & its Parents (Classic Wine Storage, Dallas, TX): Bright, ripe blackberry aromas with hints of herbs. Ripe blackberries on the palate with mild herbs and just a hint green peppers. Moderately prominent tannins and well appointed moderate oak on the finish. While well made and tasty, the wine did not speak of cabernet franc to me but rather closer to CA cabernet sauvignon. Missing were the nice vegetal and herbal flavors and aromas that I associate with cab franc.

Bursting nose of eucalyptus, crushed violets and blueberries with subtle hints of barnyard. The bouquet is slightly overpowered by the heat of the alcohol, although not so much as to mask lovely hints of lead pencil shavings to round out the pleasant medicinal properties. Silky tannins on the palate, (albeit with prominent alcohol) refreshing acidity and a solid spine of dark fruits round out this wine that ends with a 30 second finish. Drink up over the next couple years.

Nice dark color. Nose of dark berries. Serious hit of blackberry (perhaps, overripe) on the tip of the tongue. Interestingly, this fruitiness diminishes, substantially, with subsequent sips, Completely resolved tannins. Still nice acid, though. Some slate or other minerality under the rear palate. Very enjoyable.

Slo oxed for 3 hours then served with braised beef short rib gravy.
Floral nose and medium body with bell pepper, plum and crushed gravel.
Nice balance and resolved tannin, abbreviated finish.
More green bell pepper after time in the glass.
Enjoyable wine (and a good pairing). A bit simple and it did break down over the course of dinner. No great rush but I wouldn’t keep much longer (1-2 years), and no long decant needed (though moderate sediment so decanting benefit).

Pretty ruby red. Almost equal blend of red and black fruit, strong alcohol, and something that reminds me of a diluted oregano essential oil. Raspberries on the front palate, brief strawberries at the mid palate, and almost artificial vanilla and red fruit notes into the finish with a dusting of potpourri. Very nice expression of the varietal.

While I would never guess this was 100% Cab Franc in a blind tasting, I thought this wine was delicious. Paired with grilled NY Strips. Lost notes but should have bought more of this. 93-94.

Much improved the second day open from a relatively lean start. Opaque with an inch pour with purple bubbles on the surface. A rich nose with black plum, blackberry, violets, and forest floor. The sip begins moderately soft and swirling the wine in the mouth brings out a delicious juicy black cherry as well as an undertow of firm and dry tannin. The swallow is more leather textured with a light green pepper, and firmly astringent tannin. Overall, a very promising wine from high altitude mountain vineyards to hold longer in hope that the tannin will soften, integrate, and release its grip on the fruit.

WnTed cheese after dinner and all we had was a Stilton style blue which I thought would be an awkward pair but did the win ever pop! Purple and opaque. Very dense nose and less floral than I'd expect from a cab franc. Nose of cherries, raspberries, chocolate, vanilla and a hint of sage. The mouth feel is enveloping with soft tannins, balanced acidity, full mouthfeel and and rolling sour cherry finish. I would have guessed a blend or can save rather than a 15.6% cab franc. 5+12+17+8=92

Not sure what happened since I last tasted this but the flavor profile of this was not at all enjoyable to me. It developed a spearmint / minty middle that created a bit of burning sensation for me which I really didn't like. Others didn't find this as noticeable but to me this is all I could focus on. Just noticed another note with a eucalyptus descriptor and this is accurate since it sort of had the feel of a hall's cough drop.

Very solid effort still drinking on the lower upside of peak. Dark Garnett. Nose brings sweet cherry menthol, wild herbs, leather, olives, and strong eucalyptus and red floral notes. The palate is medium, rich, square, and loaded with dark fruit, cherry cobbler, savory soy sauce, and plenty of wild herbs and strawberry baking spices into the finish, which is still dusty. I would drink this before 2020 as it still needs a few years to mature yet. Not as nice as the 2005, but could get there...

Just entering its drinking window. Starting to show more CF typicity with aromas of sour cherry, menthol, currants, and hints of tobacco. On the palate, medium bodied but still very rich with red currants, cherries, hints of tobacco and bell pepper. Long finish with nice grip. Should drink well for the next five years. Wish I had bought a lot more of this.

I thought I had my last bottle of this 1 year ago but it was actually 4-2011. Previous note: Menthol / cassis / black licorice / floral / plum on nose & palate. Full bodied yet silky on the palate.
Decanted for 30 minutes and served with grilled chicken. Black licorice, menthol, blackberry on nose with similar palate profile. Medium+ body, nice acidity & long finish. Excellent with grilled chicken. Preferred this to several 94+ rated Syrahs (2010 Shafer Relentless, 2009 Donelan Obsidian, 2005 Clarendon Piggot Range Syrah) had the night before. 93+

Decanted for three hours. Full aromatic nose but surprised by the mid-weight mouth feel since I expected a full bodied experience. Typical of cab franc, this wine expressed dark fruit on the palate but was highlighted with sweet cherries and dusty tannins on the finish. My impression is that it felt “watered down”. Somewhat disappointed since I'm a huge fan of Michael Keenan and most of his efforts.

Popped and poured, notes from one hour open as it took about an hour to fully open. Classic Cab Franc nose of sour cherry, bell pepper, tobacco, and hints of bing cherry. On the palate nice sweet/tart balance with bright cherry, bell pepper, tobacco, mint, and hints of cedar. Long finish with nice grip. Drink with a short decant or continue to hold.

Awesome. Really dark. Full, complex nose, with tons to take in: brambled berries, menthol, leather, tobacco, rich vanilla and dark chocolate. On the palate, terrific soft but lingering tannins on the mid- through the end of the palate. Dust on the long finish. Beautiful dark and tart berries, with some dark chocolate, savory, herbal characteristics as well. Just a beautiful expression of Cabernet Franc.

Typical Franc nose of fruit and herb with a touch of brown sugar and leather. Nice palate of red fruit and "green" flavors including herbs. Tannins are still there but are calm and provide a nice structure from beginning throughout the finish. Nice Napa Cab Franc… I wish I had more of them.

Let it breath in the bottle for two and a half hours. Opaque purple color. Nose is sour cherries, prune and spice. I could taste the heat but the 15.6% alcohol printed on the bottle was much stronger than I expected. Medium mouth feel with very balanced acidity and a meandering sour cherry finish. Very nice. 5+12+16+8=91

Killer wine - 93++. Menthol / cassis / black licorice / floral / plum on nose & palate. Full bodied yet silky on the palate. Firm, but sweet tannins noticeable on the long finish. Great fruit / acid balance - the fruit is bright but the acidity & tannins are up to the tastk. Did not taste like Cab Franc until it had a fair amount of air time & some green pepper was noticeable on the palate. Had with a grilled skirt steak and it worked great. Probably under rating at 93. Excellent wine. One of the better wines that I have had in 2011 to date.
