Oh my! I was not expecting this to have held up as well as it has! Still dark and jammy with velvety smooth tannins. Australia hasn’t been my go to for about a decade. Very impressed with the quality. My first sip was within 5 minutes of opening. Tasting in a Riedel Ouverture Magnum glass.

It took about a hour to open up after double decanting for sediments. At first it was closed and sort of muted, but then it came back to life. Color was dark garnet with bricking. Typical Shiraz nose with blackberries and plums, and a hint of oak. Very nice acidity, lots of black fruits here, cocoa beans, plums, wet forest floor, licorice-like notes; grippy tannins, balanced vanilla ending. Leathery notes throughout. I know the description seems pretty textbook-like - because this is a textbook Aussie Shiraz. However, this was nuanced and complex, with tertiary notes coming out but with still a lot of vibrancy and freshness in it. I would say at peak, but could go on for a few years more. Truly enjoyable and another masterpiece from Elderton.

Short decant revealed a micely integrated wine. Leather woth hints of tobacco. Still on a fun drinking window, but that window is slowly closing.

Wasn't expecting this to be that intrigued. The caramel rush at first is quickly balanced by the tea palate.
Easily another 3-5 years ahead. Great value for money.
Bought to blind taste with friends against Grange of the same vintage. Watch this space!
