Triple crown blackberry, beef blood, dark chocolate macaroons, charcoal, espresso, violet, and some toasty barrel notes. Light-medium bodied, with a ripe entry, medium-plus acidity, and slightly bitter tannins on the finish that do manage to recede on the second day. The wine has some pinot-like elegance, somewhat masked presently as a result of its elevage. Like other 2004 wines in this line, I do advise prepping the bottle beforehand to eliminate as much bitter sediment as possible. Solid wine with some upside. May be better in 1-2 years, but able to drink now-2022+.

The second bottle had a healthier, moderate ruby color. Good but relatively simple black fruit. What began as an uplifting high tone in the aroma would up as volatile acidity that disrupted the harmony of the finish. The only good thing was that this stopped short of being the vinegar bomb that the first bottle was. Grossly disappointing wine without any of the charm or finesse of true Cote Rotie. Avoid.

Excellent vin. Elevage très maîtrisé, joli fruit.
A maturité, à boire sans se presser.

Rubber nose; young and light; some cherry and cedar; tannins too young and green.

First of 2 bottles. Clearly a shade lighter than the subsequent bottle. All VA.
