From magnum, with the score based on its taste today despite its immense potential. This was a monster of a wine today, still nowhere close to shedding its tannins. Strong acidity alongside bold intense red fruit and also carrying the signature tar and roses. Probably took a hit being served alongside '09 red burgundy as that only accentuated the harsh structure which simply needs time to resolve. I don't see this wine being ready for at least another 5+ years, but when it does this will be a complete beauty as everything is there. 94-96 potential.

A bit closed, but still very enjoyable. Nice tannins, tertiary aromas of leather, and some red fruits. Medium acidity and very well balanced. Med finish.

Spectacular nose of sweet tobacco, sage, rosemary, sweet meats, red cherry. With air, a little mint comes through and a touch of licorice & tar but still wrapped in red cherry. If you've never smelled a San Guiseppe, you really need to - it's unique and wonderful. Refined on the palate with a delicate, soft mouthfeel. Well balanced with perhaps just a slight hole in the mid-palate, then high acid takes over into a long finish with herbaceous flavours and a tinge of orange. Personally, I think you can drink this now but If I had only one bottle, I would certainly wait at least another 5 years. Drank over a long lunch while in the Langhe and after having visited the winery that morning (where I had the 2017). I think a fascinating aspect of this wine is how it follows the lineage from their excellent Langhe Nebbiolo to the Bricco Boschis to this. This retains the all the character of the Bricco Boschis, which of course it should, but everything is just purer and more refined. Superb.

Clear, deep garnet. Prominent and complex aromas of red cherries, red/black plums, candied cherries, balsamic, tar, truffles, cedar. Tannins are high but rounded and enveloping on the palate, but balanced by robust acidity and a long drying finish. Still powerful and many years from its prime. Looking forward to drinking this in 10-20 years time.
