  • Supper after tasting (Yang Ming Ubi): Impressions. Drinking beautifully now with mostly secondary notes yet with good acidity.

  • Ruby center with muddled red rim. Exaggerated char and then pine resin which smelled like something from La Rioja Alta's stable. The pine never completely faded, but after 2 hours, finally some spice and fruit. In the mouth, it was also dominated by astringent oak for a long time before blackberry, blueberry, and soil crept to the surface. Thankfully, not a particularly tannic 2005 right now. At its best for the last quarter of the bottle. It would have definitely benefited from more air, but I still don't think that the style and overall balance would be that much more appealing to me since the wood is so heavy handed.

  • Primary, deep ruby. Closed at first but then some wood, fruit, and even a bit of perfume. Medium weight, fairly dense, surprising complexity-smoke, clove, red and black fruit, and citric twist at the end. Excellent acidity carries the wine forward more than tannin. A lot of stuffing for a village wine. It opened up very nicely for having started so slowly, but it could definitely use another few years to evolve out of its mostly primary phase. I look forward to retasting the dregs tomorrow.

  • Casual Vosne night. The youngest of the evening and much as I couldn't really appreciate the modern style of this wine, I felt it was good in its own way. Bright and deep red, this was very "young Vosne" like in its expression. White pepper, spice, violets, wood, crushed berries, plums and touch of raisins with time. On the palate, again very rich and spicy, ginger, pomegranate, raspberries, wood and new leather. Drank well for a village, but still very primary.

  • Dark ruby color. Pleasant but restrained nose. Ripe dark fruits, not much minerality or acidity, and some bite on the finish. A solid village wine, but nothing memorable. There is some backbone remaining, so maybe there is room for a bit of improvement.
